She was the primary hitting coach for him (and the Barbe High School baseball team), and did as much to help mold the offensive approach of one of the top hitting prospects in the Sox system as anyone. Merloni interviews former teammate Danny Putnam about his deer antler product and learns about how it helps athletes. Putnam says current professional athletes are taking the product and that there are many people around professional sports that want to see his product made legal.

A pair of teammates in High-A Salem, Sean Coyle and Mike McCarthy, have done eye-opening things for different reasons this year. Coyle has done some remarkable things on the field, hitting nine homers in his first 17 games of the year. McCarthy has done some remarkable things off of it, taking part in grassroots efforts among Sox prospects to make a positive community impact in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings.

One of the most intriguing developments in the Red Sox system in the first month of 2013 has been the emergence of Michael Almanzar -- dismissed long ago by most of the industry as a non-prospect -- as an impact player, in his seventh professional season. But at 22, he's young enough to claim legitimate prospect status, even if it's arriving after most assumed that his window had closed. Kevin Boles, who managed Almanzar in 2008 and 2009 in Single-A Greenville and is now reunited with him in Double-A Portland, discusses Almanzar's development and why he's a candidate to be a quote-unquote "late-blooming" prospect. Boles also discusses other interesting prospect performances in the early stages of Portland's season.
