[0:03]" Welcome back fourth and final hour Dennis and Callahan joining us now on the AT&T hotline is Jerry Remy jurors also brought you by. I make insurance Lexus of Watertown and Mohegan Sun. A world of play good morning Jerry -- how our unit Rem dog. And I don't I'm dog -- me now that you have Fenway park's seating for money in your den. And Jerry and I get invited just one of those dozens of dinner party you have the -- mansion. After. -- it's the I don't think I've got to get in my out of forty years but that. Those at the age I hadn't -- about my -- Again it's slow I guess it does pay I don't say all day today it's difficult to call. A loss to wait team in the ninth inning to -- trying to catch for the division lead a good lots. But as losses go and based on Beckham's performance and ramping up toward October that was a pretty good last night."
[0:54]" Yeah it was good you know I had made that wasn't breaking ball to pay in Europe and paid as one of the like guys -- the Bobby hit that pitch out of the ballpark. But other that he was outstanding guy is velocity still as a little bit down. Prepared to what it was. But his curve ball has really been good in in in every -- he's been instituted the back. His changeup has been good -- little bit soft and has been in the past. And you know he's got to cut that's also like -- yeah he he was very great good last night. And that that's a great time you know receipt for the reds suck to have him back. And you know you put him -- back to back right now and that left right combinations -- without so it was a couple of those is no question about that but the fact is you noticed the impression well he did. Had to make a lot of people feel good."
[1:39]" If there were any questions and I'm not sure there was we now know who's going to be the number one starter the Red Sox in the playoffs do we not."
[1:46]" God -- well also have that it might depend on the match up you know they're playing and in what -- a lot of looks like. If you played without -- B you know look at -- you might seem like that but. You know I I think. I am quite confident that with his post season record in the -- pitching right now bodies healthy. That regardless of who they play you know I'm sure he'd get but not so. It's going to be interesting here over the next you know week and a -- that -- is see how they play this because. You know first place I think is important I I I I really don't think -- one affiliate -- the first round I'd I'd rather you have played series. And let their pitching did that build back up a little bit obese -- get the rotation out of whack. You know event that it that it shot from the secretary to get this self. It's you know the going to have been able this next week could have we don't first place while cut all the stuff. And get their pitching lined up which they will. You know so that they haven't been exactly they won at least not posting it."
[2:44]" Tell us you're around the -- in the club -- in the manager's office how important do you think first place is to them and and why is it important. Is it the is at the home field is the matchup with the Angels White Sox or is it just a matter of at the pride you have for for finishing first and not not settling for the wild card."
[3:03]" I think terrible but all those things you know in the you play opposite -- the -- that's most important thing the play in October. And and they going to be there and so have the bag. But I there are advantages obviously the finish it first you know -- and it's it's avoiding BA I think in round one. You know although the Angels have been a problem -- the read back the last couple years they have been this season there about a game. And they've they've got a present major problem for everybody that they placed so. You know I I I think it's really an advantage you want to be -- that would probably play you know much better baseball that'd go on the road. And so it's it opened it and there is -- back it's who you know is is the greatest stories Tampa bay is. You don't want be beat by that they've first place in the division you know just -- the team. Well the Yankees that was also witnessed division -- Yankees are out of it go -- that you want to be the team to win it not -- at the base so. You know there is supplied that too but -- that all gets thrown out the window once you know obviously they start. The second round of the season which is the playoffs and -- from they have but they got about being active -- the next week in Africa outlook right they always have. And they'll get their pitching lined up the truth you know that the correct weight who have but the opening series."
[4:16]" All of that -- been my question Jerry in in -- mind as best you can tell is the advantage of winning the division important enough to pitch Beckett and Lester and Papelbon. In the last two games of the regular season."
[4:29]" No no I don't think so I think what you what you read -- you know. That they'll they'll make that adjustment than not they would never did out of joy that you know you're back at that the first series off. You know with idiot the -- guys that are going to do that so they will you know make that adjustment as the next week goes on but it also close Simeon. You know it would it would have been nice to win last I'd get a game lead you know then Wakefield always opt out here. But. You know it's it's part of predicted and I know they're thinking about it. You know what they they won't talk about a very much because I don't really think they know right now but what but I don't know -- they will get it right you know they will. Make sure that back in the last you know a benefit of Britain gave."
[5:10]" There was this slightly manufactured conversation on talk radio and the newspapers about you know whether Beckham would be your first starter and then beyond Jon Lester second -- the case may be it seems to me Tito's bigger choice Jerry as the playoffs approach. Would be Byrd or Wakefield as his fourth starter is -- the tougher decision."
[5:28]" Probably so I would beside me you know the -- I guess Matsuzaka you know -- the other. And that he got Britain Wakefield and and in you know in the past Italy it was through last year he's he's he's all right this year. And -- again you know I I. My gut tells me that guy is going to be Wakefield. But you know I don't know that -- back. And it the other thing is who is idiot who they're playing. You know that may make it different still side -- based so the end and even gotten to that in the end but they won't get to that part of it. An affiliate the next week but you know whatever -- whatever it is. It gives the ball that a little bit of that too because one of those guys -- have without them."
[6:11]" When does J. D. Drew have to move sit or get off the pot here -- what does he have to. When do they have to make a decision when he's going to be they can whether they can rely on him in October or not."
[6:24]" Guys -- getting to a point now I mean hasn't played so long that in. You know he's got to get some game in and it doesn't seem to me like that neither I mean we keep very very thick batting practice because find it doesn't. He stepped up in you know so you know I would I mean from. You know thinking back and as being -- I would loved to have four of five games of my belt. You know with that bat you know report -- today before -- headed -- the playoffs. So that would which is somewhere in the middle of next week. You know what that final homestand of the season. So yeah if he can do that and and be healthy didn't pay -- didn't you know that'd be okay B five. He's not pushing -- fact that you -- you -- get a real assist you gotta make you know whether he's even going to be on the roster. So you know I'd say you know I think that he needs. We've all five games public board games. In -- good or -- the game and and you know he'll -- gonna play out but. You know we don't know how how healthy is going to be I mean that this is the step forward two steps back. And you know you've got to throttle this week then. It's hard to Europe. -- that's so effective he's able place so it's pretty much up in the air and hope that this is they've really don't know what you know what to expect the government now."
[7:39]" Do you think we watched last night Michael. Playing an obvious pain and -- that's not going away any time soon you assume you know Youkilis and Pedroia and -- tech and Ortiz are all playing in there and at some level of pain. Are they rolling their eyes to teammates rolling their eyes I don't get it."
[7:58]" I've really don't think so -- you know I mean. Everybody's different and injuries and different and there is some big play weapons that you can't play what they can't on the right now. That might poll. You know along that line up that mean this guy can have a walk. And it was you know life I have that concern me very much because this is not going to get better it may get better temporarily but it's going to crop up again and what you want to last night. That is batted like saying you know from him he could even be at the got -- because basically they cut back but he could probably get the first base."
[8:29]" a single in the -- for pinch runner which is what -- going to have to do every time he he reached first."
[8:35]" But I mean I'll walk in the mean even taken a ground ball was able forms so. I mean this is going to be a legitimate concerns and and you know as they've also if not got to get better result. You know I'm a little bit concerned about that good in -- going to -- you -- after the back at third base if you person might think Lowery didn't. You may even see Lugo as time goes not that he's improving so you know it's it's it's it's not a good the good thing but getting back to Pedro. And you know you. There're there are certain injuries you can't play what -- And and you gotta think the guy -- word I mean I'm not going to sit here and say well he should be -- got about like everybody else because I've been in that situation. And there is something he just can't play with."
[9:15]" Red dog watching him last night Mike Lowell and knowing what JD Drew it is now rendered by the way the second month -- not been available. You couldn't think -- two guys more opposite fair or not it when it comes to -- you know playing with -- injury however what they do have in common would you agree is that both men have to be considered by Tito the coaching staff the training staff the medical staff in and the front office as to whether they can be counted upon. In October I mean don't they have to sit down decide whether they shut might doubt Mike down now and hopefully he can be back for the playoffs and and whether J. D. Drew gets the 45 games or not. Don't have to look at how available will these guys beat. With these individual injuries once October rolls around."
[9:55]" Slowly absolutely kitten you know we invade Iraq that. Parents -- beat these round of the playoffs you know you'd you can change adapt so you know run around but and what you can with the point thought it would you know two guys that can't play. So you know it may be beneficial for lol that the take you know some time off. Maybe four of five days Bob and getting him the number of -- if he's improved. You know like we're talking about the earlier. With J. D. Drew. You know get them you know regains in this league ready for the playoffs seven I don't know how to they'll play this I really built. It'd -- kind of -- that in Mike and you know I feel okay you know that he actually does -- start the game. And all the sudden something happens and we'll be right back but -- wouldn't have let -- as bad as I've seen them. And you know that that maybe the way they've always maybe you know rest them before five days if it is any improvement at all. Get them back into the air and it and it it's still bottom you know they may have to leave him off the roster which is the same situation would know admitted he kicked it back in the lineup by mid week. You know what what did you -- what good does -- have a month went by may have -- spoke. Political play up -- doesn't help at all."
[11:00]" Ager give any theories on the following two spots why -- teams struggle to score a run or two after scoring thirteen the night before with six home runs we see -- all the time. And the second part of that question is why is easy to win two games in a role if your Major League Baseball team just not on the same day when it's a doubleheader."
[11:19]" You know and it's it's amazing you know -- people keep -- momentum and it was pointed out here you know the night before because. All of his sent a message you know that the the -- but it messes they'd they'd be that a lot of in the first game. It doesn't matter did so matters is that the next game. -- thought assigned to me last night you know -- me Kazmir looks he would. In game one. I mean it it looked like he was not ready to meet the challenge because last night went out there and he looked focused he looked like you know these guys those ME. And -- what impressed me last night because you know put that it was a huge huge game. And and he's -- young guy in the one concern I -- about this team was that would be his young pitcher is that they have all very good. But would they at the end of the year run out of gas and would they be intimidated by this and that's why he -- left side because he was not. So you know there's no rival reasons you know what makes the team -- you know. If you ordered the 56 bad pitches -- a row you know you -- light up you know if it is -- the -- well if -- could they could feel like he did last night. You know you gotta get shut out of that simple baseball always been myself. We'll the second one."
[12:28]" I think he's going to win two games in a row just not the same day and it seems to me this is counter intuitive if you win the first game. They got the second game loose and easy with nothing to lose as opposed depressing because you have to win it to gain the split but it does seem to work that way."
[12:42]" Doesn't you know and it kind of -- and I double and respected and in what happens is you know a lot of times you you would in a different lineups so they're both games ago. You know what you don't want guys playing -- ball then put double -- dated back -- that they had if that is depleted the that they it's laid out. So you'll see a lot of double lineup sometime in the bullpen it worn out. -- you -- that they have they'll go to those double had a situation with caution you know because it's not bad day it's it's like -- studio you know within days later. So that's that's why I think those of -- it's terrible I mean fellas are awfully always have been. And you know it's nobody -- the plan which you have to I mean it'll be going to -- we gave up but there's there's just that they're not going to be part of."
[13:25]" Speaking about no rhyme or reason. Tim Wakefield tonight do you get the sense that he's pitching for his post season life god knows he's it's an important game it's that. Chance to get back in the first place tie. But. -- he he almost don't know what to expect from Wakefield which makes it hard to count on him in the playoffs."
[13:45]" Well I don't think he's pressing for a post season life. You know I think he's got a spoke question going to be on the roster. He stays healthy and which has you know which is to this point. But if you're right you know I mean you don't know from game -- game I mean. They had the game -- he he couldn't control of late was -- all over the place he could back it's a great game at Fenway. Generally pitches good and -- always had good success out here itself but if you know it's. He's part of it felt like a conventional pitcher you don't know. From beyond awful if that's the that's quite as -- I've always said you know bad it is. It's up the Madison knuckleball pitcher because you could be all along and all of a sudden within four pitches. The game getting out of hand. On the other hand you get upset in the first finished seventh out of restful way adult you know they're tough they're tough to manage because what have always has been I -- how -- should -- vertical at all. And so it's you know he's out until it going to be part of a rod."
[14:43]" Why why I say that don't know -- what do you say that if he's not the fourth starter do you think they'll put him in the bullpen. I don't."
[14:50]" I think I epic battle to -- could possibly keep off you know at least laid off last year at the end because of the injury. He didn't feel like he could put it could pitch -- contribute. If he's healthy I I can't imagine them leaving him off the roster are really there."
[15:03]" But if he's the four starter bird will be off the roster -- Byrd won't come out of the and willing."
[15:07]" I. Probably not spoke to that point probably not you know because. You know it's not a bullpen guy obviously is like colon -- back. So. Somebody's going to be left off you know and play like this that -- make adjustments in rounds you know and maybe it'd look good you know what at Wakefield that against this team what does -- better against this team if I had I fight I'd have to say right now they had a decision between regular -- my gut tells me they would go Wakefield. That's just you know despite feeling in there's -- science behind that I just think they would do that."
[15:42]" A jury this following question qualifies under the heading of getting ahead of ourselves here. Would you prefer or not prefer to see many in the Dodgers in the World Series."
[15:52]" I love to sit a bad publicity that they'll be great. You know that he's playing unbelievable baseball out there which I think everybody anticipated he would -- The dodges all of a sudden you know running away with that division. You know how far they I mean I'm not really familiar with with their club that we saw in spring training in but -- I don't follow closely everyday. I just check out where they are that is going to check out -- And I I think could be great you know it is great starters in the -- are invited the World Series that they could be terrific."
[16:26]" And speaking of spring training do you own a Condo in Fort Myers yeah I read you rent I -- good so so it doesn't matter to you with spring training in Fort Myers and Sarasota."
[16:37]" that what they really development I -- you know the area that we're at right now but of course the business and I don't know I don't know what they've you know closest -- Sarasota I have no idea with that we've become so comfortable -- right you know it's a great spot. There's a lot of open land down between Fort Myers and Naples that they could put a beautiful complex yet but what."
[16:58]" Including like Rem dog cafe -- dogs ribs or something yeah."
[17:03]" Really cut my commute down by about what even those. You know I don't know I've been held up that part of -- they're really do that I I I just wish that that would work out -- but you know they'd have spent some Mike itself. Jeff -- Sarasota --"
