[10:02] ..." Help us watch this game -- on Sunday Jimmy when you watch. Matt Cassel perform in the first tap into the third quarter the fourth quarter what things would you be looking forward analyzed you know"...
[0:01]" Welcome back Dennis and Callahan. Joins on the ball like the analyst with fox NFL Sunday Jimmie Johnson Jimmy Johnson good morning how Loria. Are. I asked Pete Carroll this question earlier in the week Jimmy and and what does -- say in the coach's handbook under the topic. What to tell your team when the star quarterback goes down for the season."
[0:24]" Well then that's just part of football. Players to injury obviously you would. Won't lose. Valuable players -- Tom Brady. It's detained sport and that's what that while other -- sport not just one. And even though Tom Brady was a big part of the system the Patriots in the past. I think though -- it's overlooked is its success that these. Outstanding receivers. The coach it's it's more than just one person thanks so that the people -- and and the -- will be successful."
[1:03]" What happens to the playbook in the play calling on Sunday win now Matt Cassel goes in for Tom Brady."
[1:09]" Well you'll what you do with any player. Especially at quarterback you look at his strengths and weaknesses in. And you played it strikes you do what he does best. And eliminate what -- worse though. To make sure that you. Take advantage. Mystery that he has as a corner I can and how he fits with the supporting cast that. You know that's the key. Success of any quarterback he's got to have supported. Troy Aikman his rookie year wasn't very good didn't want to gain some but it -- improved his supporting cast he got better and better in the became open court."
[1:50]" I was thought that there. And Jimmy were you surprised they didn't bring another guy -- we we've been. Wondering who the Patriots would sign with the trial. Chris Simms came in for a brief visit to Daunte Culpepper is out they used to play you Randy Moss. And get the goal with Matt Cassel and they brought back Gutierrez to put him on the practice squad did you think you'd be someone else in here this week."
[2:16]" And not really you know 41. Quarterbacks that are available obviously have some flaw. And and so. I think what's more important to the Patriots right now with the system. And the players that they have Bordick can't. It's more important than a player. Understand the Patriots the way to go about things and also. He understands their system and so. Has this been in the off season at this -- This summer. When you've got into our training camp airports cities in and it might have been a different story but at this stage especially with the Patriots. It's so important that they get the right players that -- within their system. And they have both players own board."
[3:05]" What if they throw the court in this Sunday of the for the question to you like who would you like in this division do you still I assume you like the Patriots go on in the season. How do you like the chances now."
[3:16]" BI and I think that the entire division gotten better. -- think. The Jets have improved. Altman has improved in I think Buffalo probably has improved. But -- Patriots still the class of the division. Because again. The Patriots have the best he. You know I don't know what we got the best quarterback in the league or in the division right now but we'll find out. But I think they have the best team in the."
[3:46]" A Jimmie just said it's important to have a quarterback who knows your system especially with the Patriots what did you mean by that because their system is so complex."
[3:54]" Now I ethnic as much as anything else. You know certain players. Have tremendous ability. But it if they don't you know fit into this system. Very. Not only precise. Very disciplined. Typo -- in the -- And I don't think that the coaching staff is on do. Be very lenient -- with that particular player. It's very important that they win as a team that that the bank could they stress more than anything else. And I think some outstanding players. Around the league that one week they play. Great in the next week and make a bunch of mistakes. But even though there are very talented individual. The team win and lose the -- game well that type players like it and make it system. It's not who makes the most greatly. It's who makes the fewest bad. And that's what they're --"
[4:57]" We're talking Jimmie Johnson analyst for fox NFL Sunday and and -- generally speaking not specifically the Patriots would generally speaking. If you want to bring a quarterback from outside your system into your system. What would be the timetable the number of days weeks games months whatever until this guy was. Fluent enough to use of weird -- with this offense to Walter and lead your team competitively on Sunday what's politics."
[5:25]" every individual cases different. -- With the Cowboys in. Or they injured abroad in burning codes are. Who has a better quarterback period note quarterback -- open it raise please. Read. Yeah well he wasn't ready to play. But the next week he was written play in fact made a couple of key play to beat San Francisco. And that take its own 22. It just. You know it just depends on the individual I think. Much experience the on the experience he has in your system how intelligent the so it just depends on the individual if -- taken we two weeks or if he's ever written some -- You might break and and you might thank you get -- ready in couple weeks but. Because it's not a good fit interpreted it."
[6:21]" It -- I raise an eyebrow when I hear players and in this particular instance Patriot players say what we all have to do more now we have -- jobs we have to do more now that -- in for Tom. But doesn't that make it sound like they weren't doing all they could win problems there."
[6:37]" Well I think it's just the mentality I don't think reality. What they do mean this day is we need to continue to get better. We need to continue to improve. So where we've been doing as well as we can do but we know that we can get better and if we continue to get better. And that will all that the law of an outstanding quarterback."
[7:02]" can you be a great coach great football coach without a any good quarterback."
[7:09]" I think is the keyword good. I think he can be a great coach thank you can be. Great football team. With a good quarterback. That doesn't beach. I don't think if you can. And anything. If you have a backcourt. -- now now if you happen to have a great quarterback. In that particular over the where you had tremendous success. Yeah a year and figure out ethnic a great quarterback taken a bad team and make some pretty good."
[7:44]" What does that mean that you anticipate. But I think if you can have great success with good quarterback yeah. What what obviously you don't want Matt Cassel to do too much whatever that means this week. Won't the Jets just load up all they stop the run do everything -- can stop the run and and try to make Cassel beat them and and what does that mean to it to you as a coach."
[8:07]" All Friday I think the media. Yeah and play -- is that more than reality of it OK we've -- young quarterback in there were going to throw the kitchen sink at. Obviously they want to put more pressure on and they want to. They want to take the game oh oh away from the key players out that the quarterback can make the quarterback make the decisions. That are they're going to find out whether -- he can make right decisions. And so you know I'm sure they'll testing with completed their private short coverages that he maybe hasn't seen. But but again it depends. On what their -- in the quarterback to do if it's. I mean -- like that's been in the system for a cup you're so he knows the system obviously go to player or else it would be easier. They don't have them players and pick. And so. I'm sure that he would be able to handle whatever they --"
[9:05]" And -- you're Eric Mangini this week in getting prepared for -- on the Patriots are you even a little bit concerned about a reverse psychological effect where your team looks at the fact that the MVP from last year's football season is out. A kid he's never started since high school game is in this is going to be easier than we would have been with Brady in there."
[9:24]" I was Eric Mangini wouldn't be so concerned with -- Patriots. I would be looking at. Didn't -- and last year and got in the quarter back. News. And with pro and interceptions so. I was very Mangini would be concentrating. On football. And make pictures of my football team better and and not. He's so focused on the opposing quarterback forget about coaching my own thing."
[9:55]" There're there're so many intricacies of nuances in the game that obviously people of your -- understand that we don't. Help us watch this game -- on Sunday Jimmy when you watch. Matt Cassel perform in the first tap into the third quarter the fourth quarter what things would you be looking forward analyzed you know whether this guy's going to be effective going -- over and above the obvious of you know. Touchdowns versus interceptions completions almost -- what do you watch it."
[10:22]" I think the number one thing is. Would be focused been careful not get frustrated and not. Going down hill when he has some adverse situations because he's going to have some problem every quarterback problems but. That they outstanding quarterback. Once they throw the interception or once they make the mistake. They put it behind them they go out there and execute the -- But a young quarterback horrid east at least -- fact that. Has not had the experience of being under fire. Could throw an interception note that get frustrated and start pressing. And then start making more mistakes. And so I think the number one thing for canceling meant what I would be watching. Is -- because Havilland adverse situations he got to be able bounce back to respond and execute the topic and not get frustrated. If Pete can do that then and I'll be very comfortable with in executing opted to run the football. But I just or. What -- street doesn't get frustrated where. Oh let me start pressing and he makes mistakes."
[11:32]" Who benefits the most from Tom Brady injury. The Jets the Colts of the charges."
[11:40]" I AFC. Coming -- you get MVP of the league. And and so all of a sudden I think it. It gives. Every contender. Hope that they can. You know they in the AFC and though. Whether or not they Tanner and what you will be. That that. I think he gives all the contenders if if nothing else. It's narrow the gap but also would get those teams competent. Going against the Patriots in going against. Their own division -- they note that they have a chance to be successful so. You know of the -- competent and narrowing the gap the example is."
[12:26]" Jimmie Johnson era coaching record certainly speaks for itself but 89 and 682 Super Bowl titles and NCAA championship but I think almost as impressive as what to do from a coaching standpoint where the jobs that you were willing to accept and and does this qualify as -- this. You took over in Dallas for Tom Landry successfully and you took over. In Miami for Don Shula successfully that there's a certain degree of fearlessness there isn't their Jimmy."
[12:52]" Well they opportunity was there and on top of that that that took over for now in order -- iron right exactly a month before the season started in and one national championships there so. It is it really just was circumstance more than anything else. I want the other quality plate as an opportunity to win a championship in. And so that's wild. Universe your mind that. You know out Cowboys when I went there were the worst in the league. And -- tradition. And news they actually we did the right thing that we would have opportunities which -- And it with the Dolphins we went there and we were Wales. Three straight years though. I was so fortunate to be great organization."
[13:35]" So when when Belichick's steps that can put to the top of the list."
[13:38]" That's a that's a they don't like being on the boat being on the water cube it's the piccolo pupils like Earl."
[13:45]" Do you think you know Belichick the Yankees invigorated. I'm not saying he's not always motivated and inspired going into -- season but is he reinvigorated. Trying to figure this thing out without Tom Brady."
[13:57]" Well they you know. Billick you know he's someone that wants to solve the problems you'll work this solutions. Continually do is. With. He won't do -- topic that football team -- be successful every single week whatever the problem. The work through it. And watering needs to be done to keep that team ready to play that what he's going to do and so. It's just another challenge but there's talent everything they've if you go to work and so he's addressing --"
[14:33]" Jimmie Johnson from Boston have also -- thanks for the time pleasure talking football with you'll see -- And Gehrig Jimmie Johnson with Dennis and Callahan."

that's almost ten years ago yeah. At this point in his career Matt Cassel is just as good if not better than Chris -- Chris Simms is not the same guy and everybody knows it. Consider this the Tampa bay a NC double -- the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Have four quarterbacks on their roster which is a lot. Most teams don't gold ninety and Chris Simms is not one of those four quarterbacks what do those quarterbacks is a guy you've never heard of named Josh Johnson. The other quarterbacks you've heard of obviously Jeff Garcia and Luke McCown Brian Brian greasy but Josh Johnson haven't heard up Chris Simms could not make. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
