[0:08]" This is Celtics we wind up on Sports Radio -- fifty WEEI. -- don't get back and offensive rebounds ran out of pitcher point four. Made it about what it would go beyond that I have to. I am home but -- that's why Kobe Bryant and the Lakers regained its uniqueness to talk about the Boston Celtics -- John like forty goal. -- the Lakers. Here's his -- what do you. Celtics we weren't so driving both left me no good without them Francona. Ford Toronto Cleveland Toronto put down but here's -- got another one. -- Sports Radio weeks fifteen W yeah."
[0:59]" A lot of firsts in this game one of the NBA finals Celtics back for the first time -- 21 years and they don't disappoint. In 9888 win over the Lakers in game one of the NBA finals at the guard. I'm John -- this is Celtics relied a -- take your calls until 2 AM it. 61777 died steroid 5238885 supervisory fifty. Verizon cellphone users punch up pound WBI that will be a free golf first time in."
[1:28]" Ten seasons Paul Pierce's ever played an NBA final first time for Kevin Garnett in his thirteenth season. The first for Ray Allen in his twelfth season and they all played very well. As those three combined for 65 points in 25 rebounds in. If you call the Lakers a Big Three of the Kobe Bryant August saw Lamar Odom they scored 53 points and grabbed seventeen rebounds. Paul Pierce what do heroic effort in this one. After leaving in the third quarter -- and injured knee misses about. Two minutes it didn't look good that's for sure after each separate dead left knee injury and look hobbled had to be taken at a wheelchair to locker and comes back just a couple minutes later. Imports and eleven points after that injury appears with eighteen points in the second half 22 overall as he had some. Those huge clutch back to back threes late in the third quarter after I thought the Lakers dictated the tempo early on in. As they were both these teams trying to relief. Get a feel for each other I think early on but the Lakers -- with a solid second quarter they outscored the Celtics thirty to 23 in the second quarter debris got. Halftime lead of 5146 into their locker room the Celtics really exploded in the third quarter and the Celtics play the type of basketball they like to play in. Basically -- deepens controlling things leading -- and says the Celtics like they have throughout much of the season in the third quarter great third quarter. As the outs -- LA 31 to 22 in the third quarter and the Celtics outscored the Lakers 5237 in the second half. For this in 98 to 88 win Kevin Garnett was huge yet went cold for a little while. In the fourth quarter and parts of the third where he missed eight straight shots at one point in the fourth quarter regard at. They helped them in the first half and he finished overall with 24 points and thirteen rebounds including four offensive rebounds and a great game from Ray Allen. -- his nineteen points eight rebounds and five assists and Kobe Bryant in I had some spectacular plays and that Alley oop dunk in. You know did what he usually does is -- some some nice highlight plays but really not a good game for Kobe Bryant nine of 26 shooting. In his 42 minutes of playing time 24 points only got to the free throw line six times knocked down all six of them six assists and three rebounds. And the Lakers sort of went away with a when -- that was working out well for them whenever the Celtics swarmed around Kobe and doubled up -- was get the ball inside of August all the way to big for stat but. After Gasol scores twelve in the for staff the only -- three more the rest of the way to finish with fifteen -- Derek Fisher the same story he was hot the first half. He only finished with fifteen points look like he was going to go for more than twenty he scored thirteen of those fifteen in the first half the Celtics limit the Lakers to 42% shooting. Also -- about this is this kind of ironic Celtics. We all know about your deep -- best defensive team in the NBA the entire season also best. Defensive team in the NBA playoffs so for the post season giving up an average of 87 point three points per game for the way the best in the playoffs so far. Ironically enough the Lakers score 88 and that's eighteen points below their scoring average Lakers so far in this post season. Far away the best conference averaging 106 points 88 in game one let's get to the post and first up is -- in it switched it --"
[4:48]" I don't tonight John. I just can't predict -- lucked out here are pretty -- our results after that. And -- being lights are strongly this Salt -- great guitarist and I. And I looked -- it back allergic to update you."
[5:03]" I thought it was terrific especially in the second half there really clamped down in the third quarter. And also in the fourth quarter of the job they did on Kobe Bryant was terrific. Ray Allen was on him at times Paul peers certainly helping out and James Posey -- PJ brown was terrific filling in for Kendrick Perkins when he got Eric. To a great job on Gasol Posey was. Was it was a great defensively Leon Hall helped that I thought ever in chipped in of course you know KG as usual bring in the --"
[5:31]" you it's huge -- come up big in his first game I mean he just bachelor and heatley -- you know. And I made that Lakers don't seem to be at the plate -- back -- but it."
[5:44]" Well that gets a defensive liabilities without doubt and the Celtics really can exploit I think that yours Radmanovic matchup now I know -- switches -- here and there but when that happens that gives you the option of Ray Allen who -- tonight with his nineteen points eight rebounds and five assists. So I think there's a match of -- and exploitive Radmanovic gets had a foul trouble. And they have to bring Vujacic off the bench the Lakers do who who they didn't play well on offense and his great three point shooter but. Is you know nothing on deepens in any time he's matched up with a Ray Allen or or Paul Pierce and you know Kobe is gonna be -- one of those two guys but -- out -- they can exploit that."
[6:25]" Yeah I agree I mean and it. Wait no actually -- each potential aren't they like you were saying this that the greatest game yet and he -- points."
[6:34]" Wait 24 which is below his average so far in the post season. Far and away the best average in 32 points a game."
[6:41]" I mean that we can stay on and then keep -- Where -- out of -- it is a great shot to eat damned and -- get injured artist Jack you know let alone."
[6:51]" Vegas -- ever -- And I don't know yet that called first happened it was just when he was getting hot. I mean he he scored those eight straight points right out of the gate in the third quarter. Open the Celtics on a ten to run to start things in the third quarter just when he was getting hot. -- you know he had a poor first half -- overall pierce did yours in the first averages for points -- scored eighteen of them in the second half and he was just get hot they are. And you know help on the Celtics raced -- to that lead. With -- big shots early on of the third quarter so that was the time you don't want to lose -- lost him for two minutes which you've got to give credit all ears playing without injury liked and scored eleven the rest of the way."
[7:29]" I don't easier out the -- that I mean that three pointers back to back. Riled everybody up the numbers you went out practical level went on sale by Ricky can backing everybody on the street got great golf."
[7:41]" And when he came back his way it goes back to back threes late in the third quarter after being in their for for a few minutes."
[7:47]" I mean and salt pork on a -- make sure it was all right just try to stretcher and out. Hopefully he'll be at the -- away."
[7:56]" Now hopefully I could find well I think we'll know more about I mean the knee injury tomorrow because usually. As far as these injuries go and hopefully Pierce's nine and seemed fine especially the way play in the fourth court these injuries. You know the next day you know a little bit more about how that pain is in the knee also Kendrick Perkins left with a sprained ankle as well in the third quarter but the play by PJ brown Leon -- James Posey collectively helping out the year here's Stephen in Newton I Stephen."
[8:24]" Oh my god I don't know my heart tickled is John."
[8:27]" I hear what a dramatic game -- a great game. 98 to 88 the."
[8:32]" And lose who went and I'm out there right that's sure I think it's not that. I thought they went and picked them up and put him in a wheelchair I saw. We -- threat but they let people the game on before that and I thought like all novices the bad omen."
[8:47]" Right I think it I'm like -- When he left like. If this is up this series certainly doesn't look good for the Celtics the way that Paul Pierce has played in pressure situations so far in the playoffs we can look at game six in the fourth quarter -- and certainly. Game seven against Cleveland when he came back. That rousing ovation and Kevin Garnett would --"
[9:08]" I have to clears him with a wheelchair comment but when he came back the tunnel. Not to bring up the ass too much but yeah are coming up back against India that meant at --"
[9:19]" Right well I mean you can add this to the the you know the lore of the Celtics in the Lakers at this one of the annals."
[9:26]" But but Garnett while with the not to keep those awesome dunk that. I want to earn academic -- exclamation point is that they're like worth five point in some ways."
[9:37]" Well it's it gets the team fired up go after staying after the peiris you know injury the Celtics outscored the Lakers are believed 28 to sixteen. And at one point in the -- and Garnett had missed eight straight shot right before that slam which. Got the Celtics in the crowd and I think him personally going you don't need much to get Kevin."
[9:58]" fired up parent it is shut that they. The twenty twos so now I am and good twice four point -- you like you said he missed eight straight shot like now. And -- hit some big shots in the first happened and I was wondering why use an error at second half the other -- bonehead plays there."
[10:15]" Yeah they had to get around a bag -- to control that offense I thought at that point I did like what I saw from him to sell in the first half. Second half a little bit sour but -- still gave the -- get Rondo back in their."
[10:28]" point not like."
[10:29]" The -- can sell eight points on four of nine shooting with the assist to steal no turnovers which is key in this third minute."
[10:35]" And Kobe. Valiant fight -- place but it but -- developed."
[10:38]" Quiet quiet 24 and you know what. -- a lot of those a lot of those were difficult shots in the Celtics did exactly what they do in the regular season I know we stressed that the the playoffs different certainly the NBA finals is the ultimate but. The thing was is that you didn't see him driving they were closing off the lanes to Colby a lot I mean they are letting him get to the basket with ease he was habit of force up a lot of jump shots. And and the difference was at the Spurs did the same thing to them they weren't allowing him to get inside and they were forcing him to hit jump shots the problem was. For them that he was hit all the job Shiites in the -- today."
[11:13]" He looked like Clinton or they called it -- The best player on the planet in this game later games at all winter it's early and I'm very happy to get one under our belt in. Now just like the Detroit series where the whole game in and that surprised me you know."
[11:31]" I -- Steve in this right 9888 the Celtics over the Lakers here John -- Celtics relied 617779850 toll free 888. 525850 pound WE I've -- called PM Verizon cellphone as we go over. Game one of the NBA finals the way it is so we could finally tiger about it actual game and it was. One heck of a game lot of drama involved. And the Celtics after trailing at to have come back in the third quarter and also a solid fourth quarter especially defensively limiting the Lakers to fifteen points in the fourth quarter. Here's Paul in Little Rock, Arkansas they call."
[12:09]" Very good idea I just wanted to say that my -- and I listening to Houston's sepia. Second half and we are absolutely. About the Boston Celtics."
[12:21]" Hockey not he had originally -- that you might be a Derek Fisher and you know I say no I'm not here. Yeah went to Arkansas Little Rock the --"
[12:32]" Right right yes we -- the Arkansas razorbacks in. Stuff like yeah orally this is a very big hot state as far as sports is concerned I can't."
[12:43]" So it's so is this -- in Massachusetts."
[12:46]" Yeah yeah there's nothing like the Celtics -- idea. It's it's really heartwarming we can get somebody. Right to let us listen to the Celtics. On the radio it's we were trying if you were trying to watch on TV we couldn't get the kind. Description about the game."
[13:08]" twice so you got a question about the game Paul."
[13:10]" Well yeah. I just want to comment. It was a very awesome game from all sides and I'm glad that Paul Pierce was able to recover we were. In time to help the Celtics to win this his first game. And we shall be listing on Sunday night or at the second game by telephone."
[13:32]" Hi well thanks up all appreciate listen WEEI down their Little Rock, Arkansas here's nick at Natick hey nick."
[13:38]" I don't look at -- or you. I had dual threat that's a game that was a phenomenal game blog army roster appears. It was a minute ago when he just states to the ground and everyone took it deep -- but any game that constitute psychologists. -- up five under the cloud."
[13:57]" I don't want no matter what happens the rest of the series the rest of the way it's going to be one of those moments that remembered in Celtics history and certainly in the and the story rivalry between these two teams."
[14:06]" Are absolutely at. And I at all I mean what they've got really aggravated got a pulse and blood brother Bosworth topics become underdog in this series Camille look at like all the ESPN and our assistant. Everybody else I mean he like 80% of the people are picking -- LA Lakers to win that's."
[14:23]" So Vegas they are the yeah underdog as far as the series before this series tipped off the reason being nick. Here's here's what it is it's Kobe Bryant who's the best player in the NBA in the MVP. They also feel that the set the Lakers have the better coach and certainly the more experienced coach with -- nine titles. And -- jacks it. And also the way the Lakers basically steamrolled through the playoffs in the Celtics had a tough time I think they look more to that. You know having to go seven games with -- Atlanta's seven with Cleveland in the hard -- Detroit series but. You know if you if you look at most sports what wins championships defense twinge championships so it's all about you know the Celtics. With the best defense in the Lakers for away with a bad stoppage but I think the reason why the Lakers -- the favorites is they had an easier road. You know getting to the finals or you know this is their sixtieth game -- 21 for the Celtics. And also the coaching matchup in the fact that Kobe Bryant's chapter for the Lakers that's that's the only reason."
[15:20]" Being overtaken in the sweet as a Laker they have a great team and obviously -- great -- but is important people usually say that. It really doesn't win and not plastic chip up to the players and not."
[15:32]" I -- DNA is is certainly more of a player's league and a coaches league but at the same time when it gets down to crunch time in the NBA finals. I think you you know and in tight -- games coaching can certainly. Be a difference maker but tonight I thought that Phil Jackson. Really was absent minded or I don't know what he was thinking a guy with his post season pedigree. Late in the game with fifty seconds to go the Lakers down eight and they didn't -- for about twenty fours they gave up 24 seconds without -- which was. Very strange and bizarre when they were still somewhat in the game and they waited that long to pop out."
[16:08]" It straight straight waving the White flag. The everybody if you break it apart I don't Colby Bryant China meaning if you break -- opponent that came out matched. I mean come -- guys like you ought to wade dominated the first four and look at what happened out. Gigi it's going to use it looked at -- Atlantic -- that is -- yeah at sixteen foot jumper which huge issue tremendously and -- We're used to LeBron James in the print them at -- and took."
[16:44]" That's the that's the problem with the Lakers I mean they're -- guard situation great defenders. Derek fishers are very underrated defender in a terrific defender overs you know his long career. Kobe Bryant is improved his defense is one of the better defender and game but the problem is down low in the post. I mean yeah it would -- guys like Radmanovic you know he caddies floats around the perimeter morbid Gasol isn't physical at all -- of the best player and Odom. Comes to play at times and other and other games doesn't come at all in they'd been down on Odom in Los Angeles disperse the way played that Spurs series -- and have a good series at all. And it and it seems to you know it's so far -- very earlier in the game one notably an -- game."
[17:25]" They'll get a decent job and I don't think nobody knew Tony Parker what is going to San Antonio's start on the NBA championship but they -- after that I think people are going to start to know Rajon Rondo it's. After the topics state championships. I mean he's just I really think he's going to are confused expression but the speed immediately agent doesn't let it."
[17:46]" As much quicker than Fisher and in the eighties yet I think overall you still have to give Fisher the edge the fact that he's been -- before won titles and has been -- solid point guard. Playing like -- Kobe Bryant but. Rondo had a great game and ironically enough Rondo would -- same you know the same exact points fifteen. And Rondo with seven assists compared to -- six Rondell also would just the to turn overs and he had a couple of jump shots early on which is nice. Isaac on the depreciated here's Jake in a car I Jake."
[18:16]" got annoyed at stake in the call. He's sort of touched on it with Phil Jackson I was at game so. In my memory could be a little bit foggy but I I would doubt -- with six minutes left or so and Kobe Bryant would sit on the bench I couldn't believe that the Lakers would have called me on the bench."
[18:31]" I -- that was the other point I wanted to bring up was the fact that he was out of the game for effort such a long time they -- a big time stretch in the second half when they needed him and in the second unit was deep decent for. For the Lakers for for a little bit the stretch there in the third quarter but I thought he he had him out. To --"
[18:50]" Yet this as the final I mean they've had a lot of time off since their last series I can't see any reason the Kobe should be off."
[18:56]" It when he is out of there when he is out there it makes things much easier obviously -- this is the understatement of the century when he's out there easier for the Celtics deep reds but. You know. Good saw Brian it is so important apart Gasol and his scoring I mean when when Kobe's out there. They almost you know it almost turns into a nod nod to this point but almost like back to Memphis where Gasol as is the main guys get better supporters there with a Odom and Derek Fisher but at the same time. Kobe is so important now he did play 42 minutes and only missed the six but those six were crucial that's what the Celtics really took over."
[19:30]" Yet they at Church just taking the important shot down shot and those possessions I just couldn't believe it. One thing and and not to be not to be negative about the Celtics -- to think it just drives me bananas about -- a couple of -- either that I just. I think in general through the entire playoffs he has very good shot clock awareness. Feel like when the shock box -- and he passes up just too many shots that you know may not be good shots with you know eight seconds on the shot clock but you know I just wish Kevin would -- have a little. Look more awareness their shot clock. And out went under and you know that pass in the Rondo or are on the ball there a couple of possessions there retro like. Especially on 242 when he kicked out at Celtic Celtic that I think Toronto. Or whoever but the shot clock -- expired adjuster I think bananas and Alicia. You know wishing the --"
[20:19]" There is ironic on that one possession I don't have too many problems and KG in the -- like I know there's one game in Detroit on the road. -- kept deferring but it seemed like the whole team deferred. But you know as forest that one instant which I'm -- they'd -- did the shot clock violation what was ironic that that was stamped itself was never seem to shoddy doesn't like -- posted take the shot at that time and many in the past and up."
[20:43]" Yeah the -- I cannot be selfish percent but are now I think good night Sam opened privately and bring Eddie House and I. Yeah I thought that because each charge in the LA doesn't seem to have. On the ball defender like he tried -- thought we might feel a bit more bad the end."
[20:58]" I could twice show more of that -- selloff most astute to run the point affected you know the Lakers don't have up Lindsey Hunter where's that you know the using -- or. You know farm are like that that put it a little more in the second half they just used for seven minutes that was most of the first half but. Fisher can press and in the you know it Spurs and he has taken the ball up Fisher would be all over him and attack his -- that a good job breaking the pressure when he was. In there I mean I think you'll see Eddie House for stretches here and there at certain points the mix it up depending on the match --"
[21:28]" I think all elegant nice and the Celtics semi a couple of turnovers here there and I and they -- ran away with this game a little bit earlier -- think a little bit you know very popular."
[21:37]" I thought it was just you know there was some jitters early on which is understandable these guys being their for the first time and I think both these teams feeling each other out in the first quarter and the Lakers. It looked like they're going to take over was there or play in the -- stylists start to look like it was going to be real high scoring game there in the second quarter and the Celtics settled things down in the second half and played -- the deep Bentsen. The type of style they've played all season."
[21:58]" You know track is probably a disadvantage for the home team the first game the finals at least for the first quarter or so because it is so jacked up than. Everything is so you know fire as far as introductions and all the stuff going on though -- the ultimate battle even in the first quarter that there wouldn't --"
[22:15]" Jake appreciate collier's Larry in a car I Larry."
[22:19]" I you don't let you. Our great great great. And it -- at night but I I think that we aren't they become down. The first game the final is the feeling out process. -- 232 format. Is very important in so I don't think the Lakers word being out meat beat Pete cared about."
[22:44]" Well they're going to care about game two there's no it ain't gonna hit they don't want to go back -- want to go back to LA and it's you'll. -- only have to win about three you know they'll be. The only have to win at least two out of three there rivalry."
