" I expect him to make sure I'm little -- on -- though Larry Johnson and so. -- well co hosting today it's it's extremely. Bottles of champagne writing here for today's program we figured we sit up here and party was match it was going to be great. Instead now what we're doing his were christening pitcher with a champagne bottles that your wife militia to look at that that was the reason why the late because I think commute the -- I -- Facts -- well it's okay you jump because ready logistic more airtime as loggers Danny conduct rivers down the -- joining us right now on the phone line is the change. Mr. -- yesterday I was the day after."

" That's been top."

" Thank you for being honest the pleasure of being honest -- with last night and now there's there's no question something was who was lost here by everybody and I'm glad you guys are being. Honest about the only good thing that you're studying almost all the players who have been told those couple weeks William paid attention wanting to lead or even doing is working. -- those -- the guys at least all that work laws."

" Yeah up elected to -- wanted to during the course the year -- they'll -- than -- the other -- I faced a time I would hope but I can go play golf fanatics might -- work."

" I was gonna say that golf and is not going to I'm not going to work for you what had happened last night did you. When the the Milwaukee picked came when it would Milwaukee went up to that's when. I've you know lost the group of breasts -- too good when Milwaukee dropped from three to six I said -- all that's more than one team taking a tumble here."

" Yeah I have to go fast I'd we said that we had oh it is that we retarded think that through it was yeah oh that we are but -- It was painful."

" I was this is max's I was actually in a bar in Charlotte. It collectively you know we were all -- all -- it to Boston on this flight. And it was a collective groan from Wilson's so that they and to me what do you say -- is it to Celtic fans out there about what happened -- or is street think that they at all."

" I don't I don't know what there's -- illnesses I know how painful it it must deal but it for the Celtics and you know and you can. The you know wonder how I feel this people live in every -- of our life in in and the coach. As well in this in ownership of what we do best so it's at the same time you know it's kind of like a feeling that I had last day to day. I'm not really over yet it's it's kind of like Kia. You know he'd just lost 87 -- and -- in movies and it it to the next round in them. You know but you know that it it she just he got to move on and we will win. And you know not that that's different about our team it's just we have good pick well Latin nice player it's just not what it could have been."

" Yeah Danny and I remember being down their Amanda. And you and I you'd -- you you took me into the office like a teacher would normally take the student in and you were explaining to me. About the percentages and how things were you know were sentenced -- you -- we're talking about that and -- say that the same time but you had to be lucky. Luck in it and and and your percentages in the way that they -- set up I think that was the most devastate thing I think they would bid for you weigh the value was really evolved because it's. You've looked at it the way the percentages were you know 30% chance that you -- you want it to him all the sudden the ball to five."

" Right well you know the city is where it it 12 hour or three but you know you you'll note that there's a chance that as -- That is is apt though it still think it -- of the position to have an Indian. Especially with these two special as an every year you have a beat two number one. In the trap like he had this year and that would be different if they came along maybe year but they just they'll. Hand but have at that you know I think that there are there really are -- that not China's and it it. There are franchised players sitting up there right now are very good players and the --"

" What iliescu this -- on this yesterday and then they talked a little bit about it last night on the early telecast. And that was that they felt there were few teams out there that if they get the number one spot would've taken Kevin Durant. Would you have taken Oden were to rent if you -- that important."

" You know what I honestly don't know I haven't been enough times that he that whole thing I a lot of people think it's clear cut. Who it would take based on what guys are during the course of the college season I do not think it's clear cut I think it's very good debate and down. So I think that he one of them are actually worth you in the one but I would guess that the majority of people would be a year ago."

" But dandy but this team what for -- basketball club to me it would be clear cut because it was about that it. And I was that you gotta score that he's you know and I know the team scored enough points almost every game to win it. But did not have been well enough really to stop people in critical stretches to win this year basketball is that I I would. In just how could you say not taken. Oh this a defensive stopper wouldn't change a club more."

" Well not I'm not and that it would change or club or back to saint you know I had made that decision yet you know about Andy you know ride in the bobbled the lead that's the direction everybody is -- understand that we had that -- But they get you which is --"

" What thing I did notice last night when you're wrong with the with fox and talking to them is that you were very quick to jump on the possibility of making a tree here. How much value do you think that number five it chasm when you talk about a trade you talking about getting a veteran getting a significant veteran or you're talking about possibly moving down and maybe adding a veteran as part of a package deal."

" Well in the the first thing that there's a lot of discussions right now it would not talk about other players that other teams players he is no imperial guard. And -- will make a run it that's of the guys I think number five does have a lot of I think that there's -- quality player but there's lot of people don't optics in this draft. There's teams looking to change its base in the financial element of basketball now is so much different in but he basketball team than it's ever been -- any sport in. And so there's a lot of guys that are that kind of want to start over with younger players that dictator but of course with that the teams they have they're a peace -- in use for. Here for the top top guys in the -- Trip or the top. A top tier players so will be making a run at -- that the players first or post before we do."

" Can you is that can you read a young player another young player onto this thing."

" I think that it's not our attention but again you know it. It's just not that simple you can't just say can't you of course we can't we helped you with that's the best alternative. If the best alternative that is pressed to draft the player five because we -- yet or we Walt yet what were looking for value beat. We -- some of the top names that are out of the trade trade market okay we are going to make an offer. But we -- not consult rich guys to get up and beat the purpose of trying to win if not we will be more patient -- if -- continue in the development process."

" Which early indication continue getting significant veteran player with the package including that five -- So the and he said last night obviously that was in the first two -- two point question my question a -- a changeup philosophy intensify you know trying to build this team in the is there any player on this team was untouchable"

" chirping -- change a lot of course changes dramatically beat what which would have been able to do but. As artists you that you can't help doubles like except in there's there's odds against you get that that went to about what -- arsenal. You can't ever sit around it and land on you hope that those things happen. Aesthetically to go to the want to pick we are -- off today. And that probably would be a lot of work between now with the draft so you don't have a player -- you don't get that we've -- that we have a lot of work to do. Though backed the -- back you know at work we have but nothing has changed but how were trying to build the team. And you know we have to go we acted. Dispute the best you know when -- he'll -- to draft the players you want you to draft the players that are best of what -- wear your draft position you know to who signed any free -- you want. Competing in 30 -- you have certain budgetary restraints. You -- to trade the players or or players that you want you have to find another team that's will be if you -- you want. And so we will continue through the draft through free agency interest rates to try to build Turkey is there any player that's untouchable. Right now. I would say that Jefferson pierce -- untouchable."

" If you is anybody heard from."

" That's but I well I mean at the same time. You know that that's just where my mindset is right now because that's where we're that's that's kind of -- at the same time he called us --"

" It is anybody heard from yesterday. Are you concerned about that in that that interview he did which document all the while that he talked about. In -- want to wait around we're dealing with a lot of young kids he really wanted to get. Some veterans in here are you concerned at all that you you might breathe some quotes from Paul Pierce in the next few days saying something along those lines again"

" at all the here all last week and we talked. And appalled that you were Connecticut's huge goals this year Paul wants to okay have been there's no question about that all of those he needs help doc wants to win I want to win but what we -- a you know and one everybody wants to. And so you know I don't think the policy different -- Nepal's 30 years old. And but the bottom line is that. You know we have to do what's best for the off optics. I can't sit at worried it -- worried about what's happening to pop in his career if Paul takes care of the question Paul played 678 years. In this week we see it all the we've got to produce Reggie Miller because in the playoffs two years ago 838 years old."

" Sammy is no question what's your question whether you war or worker doctor anybody wants to win it's clear cut that that's where your arm your judges to -- win games but based on how the league works. And we start striking example of that last night. You gotta have a lot of luck sometimes to be able to be put into a position -- you can't win games and if you're a situation where it does take. You know 345 years who knows to be able to get to that point are you worried about a player -- past that 30 year -- that's it you're going. I don't want to championship."

" Well sure -- every player wants to win the championship. And you know it's not my job to do with as a player it's my job to do what's best for the Boston Celtics in for the instability of the future so. You know I can't we will listen to any sort of conversation that we hapless becomes Asian we we have -- conversations about all of the past we think that's what's best for the Boston Celtics have. Have to be that. That's not our mind that right now we're trying to get all the chance to win in Austin. At their first objective right."

" We've done what those two guys being in untouchables how much overhauled to you have to do. In this roster based on what happened last much overall do you have to do to get yourself in the position where you can get. To the point where you winning pretty quickly."

" I'm British which means how much overhauled do you have to do was at one deal the have to do more than one deal. It where it."

" Nobody it depends -- what the -- at eight. With that there's a lot of there's a lot of deals sometimes there's that there's deals that lead other deals on the road. And so but right now I don't know that the question the answer to that is it depends on what deal were trying to do deals right now. That would -- contenders. In the -- cup so that's what we're trying to do right now."

" Then you say is seen as the me that that the bulls important word. But this organization right now and for the fans to cycle the last couple years has to be patients. Because if you not patient. You -- make deals because they Houston a Paul Pierce might want to go some place else if you are basing everything on where this team -- it with the patience as -- do you have the development of al chips that you have A rod go together you get to draft picks to me it is very much like looking at that Chicago Bulls team. Here's a team it was down south that long -- was not in. And as got back in favor because they were patient -- meet me straight political right had tons of high draft well I mean but you can -- guys haven't had the -- of about top seven well you gonna start after you give -- your -- the pitcher access was that. When you talk about making -- sometimes jet to make trades to make trades to open up things would you maybe get picks because. This is I think the best scenario I see this team it is BM a team like Chicago. Giving those young players developing those young players and now -- the to really make it a different year by year not -- you're not going to do what in what you with this basketball club. It's going to be done year by year and let you get that special player in the draft and you did not get that does that does that award should be used right now and as well."

" It is is that because when he went back to say it is true a beat when you start feeling pressure. And he start he -- things that are in your own best interest you know lot of mistakes and may as we've known in this franchise. In the past and you and you know we we had discussions last year to be honest bowed out Jefferson were worked real beat it do what you those deals last year. Thrilled that they did happen. And so. You know I think I think patience is crucial but it -- trying to we understand where Paul Pierce as his career we understand exactly where Paul -- mindset is. We understand where -- and so are we understand that Doc Rivers has two years on the contract and I certainly understand what you know dating -- situation isn't what people want to see results and how long have been here at -- things that'll sure you'd bet. Never can I let any of those selfish endeavors or what dot may have because of his coaching contract. Ever stepped in to the way of what we do as rich as -- what's best interest and thank goodness we have smart owners. That won't let all won't allow that happened either we we are taking a big picture if we can do things to make it -- what we have a chance to win. Not a chance to just make it to the playoffs with a that you having given up when he when you'll kid but a chance to be consistent winner. -- you know a few 456 more years with the trade of a veteran. In the prime of this -- real we will certainly look to do that."

" Well -- thing is is that I think. Right now today I think patience is going to be a real tough sell just tussle with the fans I really I really believe that. And that's why did you want -- going to be under a tremendous amount of pressure to win. Probably went early last in the schedule your farewell schedule earlier didn't pan out that great and this year I just -- don't get off to a you know pretty decent start that. Yeah ideological the building and --"

" This -- that says it's just so silly I mean we well we we hope to come out of walked in October. Out with a with a great start but everybody that we did have a favorable schedule like -- Al Jefferson missed training camp with an appendectomy coming up but surgery. Tony Allen hadn't played basketball in his knee surgery in Delonte West it up one day of training camp. I mean we started out five and 13 Sebastien was our starting point guard didn't play well all the didn't come out of the -- played very well either I mean it's not to hold cheap. It's not the coaches it's not a coach is under the gun we need better players we need guys to get healthy there's a lot of things go on. I'll just -- he right now you know Doc Rivers has not come back to Boston because he needs the money. Or job security and I didn't come to do this job because I need the money or any job security. I'm just saying we understand the -- okay we understand with the sports world is all about. And it's not about the Celtics are way too big to be carried about any danger Doc Rivers are owners are very bright people. In -- know what goes on to make every decision they know what goes on behind closed doors they know what decisions are are. You know things that go on in the public are in the private. Meetings and how decisions are made what decisions we make did not do deals what decisions we do to make deals there's medical decisions there's financial decisions. There's player evaluations in all the mistakes we've made it no. The good things that have happened in the organization and they're smart bright people and so you've got to make sure. They use all the problem not just -- revolving door. Shuffling coaches -- in management."

" I'm not a little -- and I understand all the I don't hear you but that's not -- the book so the pressure or I mean again. We understand all of that but which is suggesting is that. -- there's week that is the patience is going to be really hard so I understand that. We understand patience -- the heart so he'll pick patients as -- for Doc Rivers. It'll pick apart for any danger which prospector Paul Pierce -- we understand that we feel that more than that in the stands he'll. But we can't make stupid decisions based on -- we can't let the pressure get to. You guys can talk about it all you want as you do the job of."

" What I like yesterday that it just as if this -- Talked about better players. And -- that we all agree you need better players but you're also dealing with a system that sometimes is a little unfair as an Apple last tournaments on the senior day in and judge the system. But we've seen this in the past if you get those players that people consider for at a giants."

" Think by the way that's -- O'Clock -- but -- we day today it's not. Next year it might benefit you lecturing you might look at it differently if you -- the UN base right UB. Hey -- at -- yet but looking."

" The system and the fact that. If you get one of those players and history tells us get what people consider leading up to the draft is one of those franchise players. Usually it ends up you've got yourself a franchise player for the next decade and you've got double damn good basketball team. When you -- you need better players without benefiting from that system and you failed to do that again. You know by the luck of the ball how you picked the play you have right now and get better pitchers."

" What he does that apply to let you know what. It's hard and I understand that it -- there's competition out there there's 30 teams try to do the same thing in the is a lot of luck in all there's no question about that. You know. Had there been patients. At people that the Celtics have drafted. They have been lucky they did get lucky lucky in the draft at at times we got lucky when we drafted out chips -- 15. Okay there were other guys that we wanted to draft we got jumped up to the 15 we'd love him but yet there were the guys we wanted to draft out Jefferson turned out to be better. That's the blocked. Delonte West at 24 at somewhat you know being able to acquire Rajon Rondo with this year is 24 pick in the draft I would. Rajon Rondo is better than any point guard in this draft. And that's where we will be looking at point guard in this year's draft. But you know both both things there's good there's benefits and there's you know that there is some block. We're Chicago you know like you said -- and match in those guys had like seven picks inside the top step. Over the last five years and that's whether -- building it a little bit faster. Although it's taken some time but we have been lucky and we we can still continue to get lucky we can do some things with some good artwork in them. And you know make good decisions in the draft."

" I hit it dead now look at another thing which cut that you tell my patience in and Pete talked about it maybe not have the patience but I think the fans have been patient that they they will be patient and and I compare that really. A look at just the number of people came to the game because. If 14 to lose 18 games in the row in may and -- come out and support your basketball club to me that would that was surprising in on top of that. If I compare one to the other. I look at the franchise's you Boston I say okay what happened this weather over there with the Bruins who were losing and what have with the -- you have a lot of people come to the south that gave."

" And again the difference because I think that the -- we're looking at it saying. We've got some young pieces here players that a pretty entertaining but it's okay if we lose because -- surprise down the road. Dating to the prize last night thank you thank you -- appreciate --"

" Outside but I disagree with the enemy to keep you beatings are up by do you believe people like watch what they're seeing and no they want to win and they know that becomes a time when. You know that this isn't -- apply. We all understand that at the same time it is difficult to be patient but and do like in in. Austin is the best work in the country come on meet our answer. Who would it ever envisioned -- and I don't think they came to watch us lose that they became the watch has played I think a lot of people stayed home. Open the Celtics would lose or the but the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow but I don't think people went to the games to one."

" No I don't I don't think they did it in is that they were watching the pieces. Figuring at the end of the year we're gonna get this prized player and you -- the wrong dose in the Jefferson all the pieces with that the gather. And now we're gonna have we're going to be relevant again we're going to be or relevant NBA franchise but it just and they brought that up last night. On the telecast before the question was thrown around to the panel on ESP yen. Who's got the most to gain or lose tonight. And the answer was the Boston Celtics and I couldn't agree more that and they basically just talked about the relevance of the franchise his market. A historical storied franchise. That has not really been relevant you guys aren't spending a lot of time on national television you probably won't again. In the you know this next year. Yet that you've been lucky last night you would've spent time. On national television for two reasons one because you found yourself what what people think is a franchise player. And tell because the Boston it's as the Boston Celtics it is a story."

" What that what wasn't that an amazing feat last I mean in all of the national TE programs. Although we're talking about with the -- so does the -- nobody mentioned Memphis or Milwaukee or Atlanta nobody cared about -- everybody cared about off."

" Because it's spring in his regular bring in the franchise back -- of."

" I understand that's you know that's that's why we're that's why we're a very very specialist doesn't of those banners up in the -- will understand -- it made -- not it's not relevant to them I mean they're not relevant to India 5000 season ticket holders. You tell me that that would have been a major major boost in Milwaukee Atlanta are meant --"

" Like here not like here now I just based on all the things you just said about it was a terrible sports that's a great sports them went off. You know that's that's the difference. And I think it would have been much easier for -- from a market standpoint. If you -- if you locked out last night from marketing standpoint. Without them playing a game you got everybody jump on the bandwagon everybody wants to be with a winner that's why it is you're right this makes it. Not only more difficult. And going to destroy your golf game I'm you're gonna have to you know figure out ways and you don't have a lot of avenues -- ways to make it work. But the way you would have that everybody on the bandwagon now it's just market staple it to. All exactly it's so much -- get it it. It's not great it's reality it's perception and perception sometimes is more important in reality."

" And I I -- agree more I mean I understand it's it's really really easy you don't even have to sell anything you'll have to say anything you don't have to show it meet people were going to be that you get the number one. It's automatic -- and and that's what we have our work it out."

" But that's the question I have though in that knowing all those things in and we all agree that that's that that's the environment you're dealing with -- how do you maintain patience now -- in the the to get a public interested in that product and I know they were there this past year. But to get an interest -- that product we want to have to win more games this year you're probably going to have to be a playoff team this year."

" Oh absolutely that's that's our attention and -- we feel like we can't. That's that's going to do that's what we have a work it out."

" They did you when you assess this present. Celtics team what's the biggest need. -- guy I know that happening in other we didn't I I you look at -- bang -- you looked -- for a matter they're kind of socialist."

" There's different ways to win it and and liked axis enemy you know we'd have been able that shot blocking rebounding interior off the president. -- been good to cover a lot of category but -- as a team we immediately you know there's there's we need to be better defensively. We need to get a team the it at team identity of the people on the we had great stretches last year and out. Not all about injuries and everything else become mean is better I think experience is a big factor for us it's certainly not. In and maybe maybe the only responsibility -- put on the coaches is that is a priority not anything to do their schemes and things like that it worked on it practice but maybe he would make more focused but. Predicting we need the players to really commit appointment and we need those kind of players need to draft and players."

" I see that he ever went back to college is there anybody else that you foresee might do that I know. Jeff Green at Georgetown does not have an agent right knows that anybody else you foresee. Jumping back into school -- out of out of the drab greens committee agreed at a news conference today would never greens coming out and not he has steadily he's coming out diverts us thing."

" No not not that's going to impact us in the top I think that it would just mean. Keep just take a look at the or Florida -- meeting at three and in and or or stayed in the two -- Jeff reed -- there's probably beat players you know draft."

" Let's get back to work. All right we will talk down the road in again it was -- roughly a lot of people now it's. It in the -- NC we come up with him and talked it we close that into the draft -- thank you. -- the -- the big guys please give -- patients and one half of that last thing I I don't I -- I agree with I agree with that this was from the headlines. They have like three as an entity is grimy rivers grimy and rivers that's the -- today talking about the Celtics thing. I don't I don't that's I think I think that the the word is the optimal word is patient. They have been."

" He drives that it doesn't I'll tell -- right now honestly I don't. It's it's the hardest thing is actually -- here it's not apply if that's simple but beat you here blame them they aren't. I don't I don't look like lastly if you try to sell patience this year Dario and he'll hit a -- fly only NL they argue well unfair that sac fly all the."

" They accused with his best but the is that going to get -- with a bus as of late -- and if you say that. Their fans aren't stupid they know day hey we have a lot of work to do. And habits all of that people look at and that's at this about this team in the four if you get to a point we're used to but they'll people will be there would do this that we got that's got ahead you don't have that Cutler -- just Q did you make the right yeah -- to be well they'll say that. Civil to -- about -- both meet if you put that on the slogan."

" Don't let your -- pass with and they had. Above respect that put it on the rear -- Now I'm all over at the moment some people are glad that -- out. Maybe you can pick those double Iowa and it's been an awful I I I I think that ticket Q from your own quick respect from last night -- the true details don't choose to I don't think college English and whatever it. But -- but the but the but the problem male is the Indians right they need better players"
