" I wasn't sure who Tito is yellow that and I -- us and us. We sort their so we didn't necessarily yelled out although what happens from time to time. I I I guess Jerry doesn't like my take on this but you're regular you're sitting across from me so I'll say it again. From start to finish the overall caliber of play in the Olympics Olympic hockey. Was the best I've ever seen the highest level I've ever seen the game played out over an extended period. If the US had won in overtime may be I would have supplanted 99 US against the Soviets will -- yeah it was Soviet -- but. To -- that's still the defining sports moment of my life this is a real close second. And this the caliber of play was better in this game I mean at the skill level was just off the charts but nineteen eighties to looked up."
" My line -- like your take on tape delay again disappointed his point is if you knew the results. Of the 99 Winter Olympics matchup between. The United States in the USSR. Then how could you -- be excited you know he he was. It's he's seemingly fixated on the tape delay aspect of things. Now I don't think there'll ever be another 9999. Is is is a secure number one there is no vacancy for that top spot they're at temperature for the top spot just because. How professionals. On the US side to have professionals and in the Olympics any time you've got guys who. Who have games. A right after the Olympics you know a couple days after the Olympics they're playing in the National Hockey League at the highest level. And a few days earlier they were playing on the Olympic team right that you really can't say. They're underdogs you really can't say they're just a bunch of scrappy kids who went out there and no one believed in them actually a lot of teams believe and -- And they pay them very well yeah well it's underdeveloped there's no competition for our for 99 -- that said."
" It was a great hockey game I think it surprise you because -- said. Canada I was gonna win by four. Goals. And you said the United States was gonna win by four. That's the United States is gonna win. Intimated he lets say by Ford and I miss -- and get this it was a it was a take on what you're gonna see I'll whip up yet. There's -- Can't think of gold medal game that's why I was just so outraged by the comic. -- don't remember that to you can't go onto a gold medal game. Taking anybody's gonna win by four goals I know you're excited about Canada's performance but. And it they're not Beckett. They're very good. But they're not four goals better than United States I thought it was a great game yes I thought candidate wouldn't would win Maurice you blow to okay. Would we want to say I'm a mom wondering where you -- we can move on to a better I somehow don't think we well but that's our number one mobile we will."
" Okay I'm over."
" Idea I am fairly certain not -- you know what will leave it alone here. Your right eye your right it was dead wrong on -- fairly certain -- up and I you're right I was dead wrong and not don't know you're right I was dead wrong. People on here has beaten and -- and it -- handle why not see an absolutely sure but we when we have a great hockey game decides they do. Why don't conflict is great rating -- I agree. Sometimes sometimes conflict. That we should avoid conflict if he gets up and say it's got four hours to get paid the same thing need to say and say your opinion now we're good. That's what that's what the bosses were good I was dead wrong. Couldn't have been more wrong. I mean what an idiot I am not there was an apologist it outages are agent piling onto it as we go on products I don't or hours -- an agent of flog yourself. I just I told you on Friday it to be sensitive about it I -- not at all I told you on Thursday or Friday that one of the reasons. I was looking forward to the game is like -- come here on Monday and tell you were wrong so you should've should've expected that -- apartment say that yeah. You're right Michael I was wrong."
" And you don't get set times."
" Oh there was a tremendous game and I think I think the US not the US beat the National Hockey League. Should keep this thing going. Because you watch that game yesterday. And you look at Ryan Miller. And the reason you would get a lot of players and of course don't expect the same thing. On Tuesday night in the whole home regular season hockey game but now you've got guys in my opinion guys you can follow. Certain players -- want to follow now after watch in the Olympics. I think a lot of casual fans are listening."
" I I I think that they will they they might tune in. I'm not sure they'll hang I think that that there were a lot of people watching yesterday can't wait to see the the the ratings whenever they come out I mean we -- candidate will be the most watched television show in the history of the medium by -- ten probably. In the US it'll be huge number that's not Super Bowl number won't be anything like that it'll be a gigantic number. Which means a lot of people were watching who probably wouldn't normally watch hockey. And the quality of play the excitement the drama detention. Because Jerry -- and they didn't know what the result was 'cause it wasn't on tape delay. We'll bring some people perhaps to the -- and telecast tomorrow night or are out of buffalo Bob sabres telecast on any -- when they play next. But I'm not sure they'll hang -- I hope they do. That -- it it will look like two separate sports to. Those people who who their first experience with hockey is what they saw on this tournament they're gonna turn to the NHL and what."
" Hello -- out as watchers there's what they're in the NASCAR audiences taught us and that is that. The a lot of fans don't have a problem following a guy."
" And in NASCAR they ticket to a very high level. You know you -- driver. You'll follow that driver. If if he finished his first to be finished his spirit that he finishes twentieth. It doesn't matter you've got a guy you'll follow people like personalities they like somebody they feel connected to. So. It's not out of the realm of possibility that somebody. Is gonna follow a guy may be that guy is Ryan Miller. "
" Have you don't I am not necessarily love the sport."
" I haven't looked at the schedule but according to a text there. More animated Sidney Crosby against Ryan Miller. Rated B a certain irony in that that their first game back after. The Olympic break would be the Pittsburgh Penguins against the Buffalo Sabres. Ryan Miller was her role in this term. It it you could make an argument he gave up one bad goal in the entire garment one goal but I know he'd like to have back. Not because it was the deciding goal just because anytime goaltender gives up a five hole -- they say that they've screwed it up right. That's the one goal in the entire tournament I bet he'd say I should have that one. I forget what it's a percentage was like and the -- 138 saves -- on nine goals -- some silly number."
" And I think and that situation he he might say I screwed that went up -- have that backed by the time you're in a foreign force situation and you're not the better team. I think you're at a disadvantage of academy added step further. Yeah uniform for situation you're not the better team and the other team has the best player in the world. I don't like is it too -- unlike your chances because. If you can kind of muddy up the field a little bit if you don't have the don't have the best guy you got what more guy who could just get in the way. Ask your -- but you open up the ice in the other guys. Have the best player in the world like their chances so I want to form for I just felt like. Our mandate they need. They need it yet. They need something they need a -- goal because of this -- yeah you hoped some weird then together over the United States because you don't like about a four on four situation I certainly didn't like a minute shootout."
" I I I do have to say this site. I thought this going into the overtime I just hope that it wasn't a fluke that one you know some weird hop off up off an official skater. You know. Some defenseman falls down at the Blue Line I hope that it was a good goal and it was a very good goal won the whole thing. Com. I I thought it was great. And and in that regard at least it was a good clean positive play. If if you wanna go to the whole notion of of script writers and and how they would perceive this whole thing. You couldn't end the Olympics in a better way. The final event the final medal event in the Olympics. Candidate wins the gold medal on their home soil against the team that had beaten in the week before and Sidney Crosby gets the game winner in overtime it's like Hollywood would write it this way. The best known hockey player in Canada. You know the if the river is going to be an error tip to wing Gretzky this guy will be yet amateur deliberately Wayne Gretzky -- just saying he's the next. Highest level right. And for him to get the game winner after. Really three sub par performances. He had played three complete games including yesterday without a point. He got the biggest point of the Olympics in the overtime but he didn't have a point and in regulation didn't have a point neither of the two previous games. But with the game on the line. You could hear on the telecast if you're watching and everybody wants you could hear him scream as again we'll have the puck in the corner and got hit by Rafalski. And as as he came off the boards you can actually hear him scream because he knew we had a step he knew that he was in the open and again limit per."
" The past yeah I think. It was just it was a great. Of the great tournament it was a great game a really really -- at the US to win I was very disappointed that. They wound up but the silver medal. But there there's a lot of that there are a lot of positive things that take from this one I think the US did a good job of putting together a team."
" Brian Burke was out he got lot of heat he passed over some pretty big names and former olympians. And there were folks out there sand they look at the -- Billy Guerin played in Pittsburgh he's been on the Olympic team you got Mike Modano you get Keith could chuck. He said no we're going young were going potential we're -- guys with upside is supposed to guys who have been there. And it caught a lot of grief and if you're not -- up. Ardent NHL fan my guess is guys like David backus and Dustin Brown and and you know names like that don't jump off though they disagree action --"
" Good job the very good job putting that team together speaking to get jobs another thing. We talked about this a little earlier this morning. Doctor America somethin' special he's the best state I -- even by by planets are the MS why won't say ever embodies the best there is now it is clear. That he really does his homework not only does he know the game goes home more this is stuff that he's able to just drop casually during -- telecast. Let you know that this is the guy who's spending hours and hours. Preparing for a game or or hours and hours not just for a game but hours and hours -- of people around hockey. To pick up but another piece of information -- I just can't imagine. -- I love my boy from Mike -- from from the penguins but I can't imagine anybody is up playing at a higher level in this guy's."
" I I I have the the distinct pleasure and honor of of working with in my first year out of college my job was to learn Mike Emmerich -- And and talked about a need to learn from I would watch with this guy would do we have -- briefcase great big you know like at. Like here you're taken the sales catalogs out on the road type of briefcase and this was pre computers and nobody had laptops or anything like that. And he would by hand every single day and I would watch him do he had chart after chart after chart. This is the American Hockey League -- he would chart every goal that was scored. Last night he'd get all the the maggots in the game reports and he would by hand by is is little hand in different colors and he would chart every goal every goaltender. He -- every single play that was made in the American Hockey League on a day to day basis. I know what he does in the NHL. Were asking me the other day when -- to show up at the rank and I'd say I'd be their format for four and a half hours before faceoff. Knocks their five and a half six hours before face off. -- He is a walking talking encyclopedia of hockey knowledge."
" And I came across it came across to the people who follow them for a long time you know hardcore hockey people as some of the people who were new watching. You know watching some these players for the first time I'm sure they enjoyed. What he had to say during the telecast to these great."
" He's the best I thought it from start to finish I love the fact that apparently DirecTV. Had the arrangement -- BC to not do commercial breaks during the the periods. So it meant that you know win -- can't Canadian TV was a way to break. They would stay there and it gave it gave any old chicken opportunity to chime in and -- real good about letting the collar guys have something to say or Pierre McGuire. It it it allowed them to you know expound on things that normally you he can't do because you're away at commercial. And then you get into some of the historical stuff that doc has at his fingertips -- off the top of his head that's what's even scarier. All lets us office -- officer rank right exactly I mean if we had notes due to be one thing. He knows all that stuff just knows it comes out naturally. It it is that it is the start to finish the best hockey I have ever seen play. I mean just yesterday's game -- 67 minutes. Of the fastest hockey you've ever seen the Christmas passing the most fallacious body checks you can't play the game and a higher level -- what you saw yes."
" Right -- you you talk about. You know last year the Bruins when they couldn't when when these when they got shut down by by Carolina surprisingly they losing game seven. And after that series is over you talk about what this would of the Bruins need the music and integrate they had no defenseman who can handle the puck. That issue yesterday at all from either side no it -- sick at all yet that's the defenseman. Everybody can handle the puck enough sticks dependent on -- everybody knew how to pass. Everybody knew where to be you could see a lot of mistakes and and of course when one team made a mistake. The other team was get an up to it to recognize it and pounce on."
" And you had a goaltender generally speaking who could help negate the mistake you might have made. Ironically and you you brought this point up last week -- around on the money Mike Babcock put his neck on the line. And he won he won with -- is with his chance that he talked. But that was probably the weakest game I've seen Longo place since he took over for Brodeur and the closer he was fight in the pocket all day long and Eddie -- kept pointing this out. I mean simple little glove saves that he couldn't hold onto. Even the game tying goal. He probably should have should have not given up the rebound but he gave up I'm -- from parise it was great goal. It was probably broad. One -- weakest effort but it was still good enough to win a gold medal that's how good ones. And Ryan Miller was great from start to finish he's that he if if you made a star out of these Olympics. He's the guy they're a couple of guys up teen USA why didn't know enough about and I didn't appreciate as much as I should of before this tournament one as Ryan Kessler. I mean I he plays in Vancouver how often do you see the Canucks play. I had no idea he was as good as he has another one is -- from Chicago right anything McCain and tase and some pretty good young players that black talked team. But McCain and and Kessler were probably the two guys who just opened my eyes during this term along with. It was pretty quiet again. Candidate Joe. Joe Joe the court yesterday he asked. Really not not bring in much the table for the USA PJK didn't do much. I kept looking for him to make a play I just I'm not sure that and NI PJK is a wonderfully talented player. I'm not sure when the game is as intense physically is this is -- around that's his place is an ulcer like yesterday yeah that's. It doesn't fit into his skill set. I mean he can skate like the wind he's got great shot off boat off the wing. But if if things get a little rough and tumble I'm not -- that plays into his strengths and and I think probably Ron Wilson was correct in not thrown him out there more than he did it. Bergeron didn't play as -- hear much from him either I mean did play yesterday you know he. They loved him on defensive zone faceoff in the circle to the right of the goaltender. Because he would take that draw on the back into the corner and he was great data the entire Olympics he was doing it again yesterday. But he was the classic fourth line guy who just didn't get a whole lot of time out there. I was so happy on. Friday. That Ron Wilson let Tim Thomas going to finish up the game. Do MI you know what they're up sixth not tonight I didn't really care I just happy to -- got an opportunity to Albany municipal. Paula wasn't thomas' ball ball deflected off the defender. I was just happy they -- six nothing and I promise you Ryan Miller didn't have a a -- problem -- that. Add an effect they probably had even discussed that between periods. And he's given the chance to play some and you know the way Miller played you would -- blamed any any coach who said you played every minute of every game which are up six nothing. Tim you're gonna get your Olympic experience I was happy got -- was great for him. -- on with a -- does the locker room with Patrice Bergeron -- got a hold. And unfortunately. Zdeno -- can't complete the grouping with his bronze speakers. I lost in the bronze medal game it was an interesting point made after the game think about this you win a goal. You -- a bronze. If the win the game to win the bronze medal you lose the silver. You win the game to win the gold medal you win the game to win the bronze medal you lose the game to get a silver. There is no way to feel good about the silver medal because you always walked off the ice and off the ice with -- head down saying we lost the -- It's a weird dynamic the other thing I found -- usual and I guess this is up a bomb they throw to the NHL. Most valuable player and I eight agree wholeheartedly if you're gonna name somebody Ryan -- it ended there what there was no second choice in my mind. What you don't have was the most valuable ski year in all of the of the skiing competition who's the most valuable. Luge -- who's the most valuable curly you don't have that the other sports the to have most valuable player of the --"
" them most outstanding performer of the entire Olympics and that's use the it got its unofficial which is -- the the guy or the other woman who has the most medals. Yeah I'm sure sure in the and in 55 Jesse Owens was the most valuable."
" Hope at some let me ask about it in any way at the Olympics. We will talk to Kevin DuPont he is. Like everybody else on the planet trying to get out of Vancouver today will give -- he's gonna join us from the airport in Vancouver which is probably like an armed camp today. Try to get out of there Kevin Youkilis will join us later on the program live from Fort Myers will get an opportunity to talk with him. How we'll get right to the calls that you guys in just compliment it's ninety seconds from now we'll set the rest of the scene and yes. Sorry Boston Celtics. We did remember what happened Saturday afternoon talk about that next Sports Radio WEEI."
