Ralph Bates is certainly one of a kind! He contacted Dana-Farber after the Radio-Telethon in 2006 and after visiting the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute he pledged $1 million to DFCI. He got the money by mortgaging various properties that he owned. Ralph is also joined by Mike Andrews who says this was an incredible gesture by Ralph.

He was able to persuade you listen in detail. Talk about his Jimmy Fund experience and how how meaningful it is to him and that inspired -- actually didn't. That's what happened what two and a half years ago kind of was the best thing ever did."

" I do we talk all the time about you know for some folks given twenty dollars is a big deal and believe me we bless them for doing it. You went above and beyond what most anybody can do win and would try to do and I'm not sure that you've got quite the credit you deserve for it because unfortunately you -- let's say much about it."

" Well. I am thrilled every month when I eats. Pay -- my year mortgages that I put on my property to come up with that. But million dollars and I even enjoy your writing that check -- the months to pay off my mortgage. He mortgaged properties to get the money. To make the donation that email."

" You I have to tell you Michael it it was. Probably in my thirty years here the most compelling. Active generosity. And that I think you know it anything near that level. That I have ever seen and and is still was just saying I mean. Here's here's a man who was listening to our. Stories the end said the here I am I mean I'm getting up there in years of five mayor -- and said. I can I can really make an impact if any one out. And mortgaged to of these properties. For half a million dollars each. And want CNN and with you guys on the year after the radio -- of 2006. And had to check in his hand for a million dollars and said. Here I you the issue is this the best way you can't it's all yours and walked out and you don't see interpret often and and you know if we can just. Encourage somebody out there who may not be able to give at that level my gosh that would be him a miracle itself but. The -- many ways you can give and here's a man who figured out a way to do it now. He's going to heaven that's one. Even what all the things."

" How did you decide to how did you both decide to use the one million dollars."

You don't regulator TI know. Okay well that you we decided to use part of it went right to research and this is the beauty. This radio telethon in general because all this money comes and unrestricted. So we can really go back to. Doctor Benson and -- and say. Here's here's your five million dollars this year and he uses the best way you think you can and so part of winter research. Part of it went to patient care. And and as a matter of fact we're proud to say in the new yucky cancer centers center for for patient care. -- gonna have his name -- and -- and he did that reluctantly but we got that we he's gonna be named on that lobby floor. Congratulations Ralph. Regular regular Ralph it's great to visit -- like I said when the mics on on the talks a lot has felt when the mics are on not so much -- a talker. And you're there and you really give -- all along."

Right to see you -- and I'll be listening on the radio all right -- out -- you the next eyebrow and they."

" So from Manchester Massachusetts who just. Blew me away a couple of years ago when he visited with us and I remember when Mike brought him in Michael and -- right now -- just."

" I was dumb found out I was shocked I'm still shocked by the me think about the story he mortgaged his property so we can come up with a million dollars. -- is Dana -- for you for your brain use whatever whatever you wanna do you go ahead and do it and they decided that.
