" Welcomed at Fenway Park and welcome to the Herb Chambers many pregame show my name is John rash. The Red Sox were blanked by the -- six nothing on Monday Boston is now one and three on this ten game homestand and the they and the ball to Josh Beckett tonight. Lefthander in Evelyn goes for Oakland. Now let's get the latest from the manager Terry Francona has brought -- by -- OT Terry Francona has currency of choice. Here's Dave O'Brien."

" Okay John thank you very much -- first off let's look to play weather man because you do this so well you've never missed a forecast what's the forecast for tonight. Right now I was told it's either going to rain or not how's that this New England stuff I don't know how to deal with -- because it's in it's about who knows. On to what they are are gradually communicate well those ads go off the ball it will allows mess with him but. They do a good job and they know that we don't want to start -- game and and have Beckett threw two innings and you know. So would do the best we can't it's not easy because the weather changes around here is to all know. Well one thing that doesn't change of course is the performance of your second base and Dustin Pedroia but. He was not in the lineup yesterday was a way to be. With his wife can you update us on that win -- playing point and yeah it would be a real life -- on the way and and I'd say about not you know. -- They're expecting their first child about seven weeks there were some things -- came up yesterday that Kelly need to go over them to a hospital and and peace as as everybody that kind of knows Jim knows how bad he wants to play as the day progressed I think we were all get them comfortable with the fact that he was here. And and I'm not saying out like you know he's he's a greatest. -- husband on every -- he's he's -- an oral. But he -- need to beard this game last night and the and the more he could see him fight it it -- here and we're going to gamely -- responsible everybody. And we. Kind of got him in that direction because he need to be or not she's still in the hospital I think she's doing better. She had she was able to get her mom and Pete he's mom again in the council that are over there with -- today and we all feel a little bit better about him being here. And so his obvious whose mind is always on baseball but this is just one of those situations where. He's about to become a father is it imminent is it's something that that we can within the next 48 -- again that's you know idols will be you know I think. Yeah I think he's flown to become a father local pretty anticipated. I think. What it when those things happen we we the as -- know so little but we rely on some really good people that she's in great hands. And and or Spears last -- were awesome. And she's going to get the best care in the world. While the Red Sox last night certainly saw one of the best pitching performances against them. They you've seen all season long would you rank that number one Brad Anderson's last night he was just outstanding if terrorism I I don't want to see the next -- he carved -- up. -- his velocity with movement slider. And again and I guess the question a lot Hokies it seems like young pitchers have had success. I don't know why agree with that completely there has been some young pitchers that have -- have gone a while ago -- Just like other teams with young pitching you -- a lot of inconsistencies. When young pitchers -- good stuff command and put together for game you saw what happened last night now that doesn't mean they can do it over and over and over again. But and -- happened we've seen young pitchers come through that haven't commanded and we've got them out of the game early but that's just the way it happened with young pitching. -- gentleman who's about twice his age John Smoltz went through five innings for realized I gave up by ten hits in five runs what did you think of smoltz his third start -- better than his line. I thought his secondary stuff is split. Wasn't as crisp or have the depth that he showed the last nine Baltimore. He he showed some good sliders he didn't always repeat those. But his split didn't have a ton of depth to it. Again he's working through and he stated those first 45 starts to he can kind of get his fielding ground and know what he has -- we can go to. -- can rely on. Again saying that. We have that one inning where he left a split Ellsbury went down and gotten and and it it was 32 out runs or it's a heck of a lot better -- Jason Bay made a play left -- against the wall. Did he make that catch but the replay it was really tough almost looked like he did make it another replay that look like -- awful deal I heard the goalies. I'm thinking -- the wall. Bay came in the city made the play he's probably only one that truly knows and he said he made the polite. But his glove was turned sideways. And it was a different angle for sure. I looked at it several times it's it's hard to say conclusively but he -- because. Those of it and make it he sold it really well and he did and it again he said he constantly by didn't have to sell out. But it's tough because I don't watch republic to a Fargo. Now finally Daisuke Matsuzaka down in Fort Myers can you give us an update on Daisuke in his progress prices had two really good things he was in nerves warnings of authority. He ran the mile and a half that our guys did early on this spring when he would go on the testing party did the shuttle yesterday. He's had two really good as a probable. At 7:30 in the morning in Fort Myers in July. That's not a vacation and he's done he's out of two good two days -- thanks good luck tonight okay thanks Terry Francona must awesome back to John rash."
