" We're going to -- new technology here. I mean the man the Boston and sound like in the next room joining us is. Peter King from Sports Illustrated SI dot all of Peter your -- you're not supposed to say that dale I am in the annex I for a -- image is reality -- is moved to Boston and go through Kansas City for experts say. I just have to ask this one question how long has it been since you've seen it straight steal home. Billy -- fifteen years ago -- now here's an even better one for you Peter and him and Dave Campbell mentioned this on on radio last night and one of the guys on -- that -- one looked about. The Minnesota Twins did it twice in one inning. Caesar told bar and rock roof bolt stole home in a single. That's way to -- that's amazing that is just amazing. But you know what's funny last night. Did it look like. That he BC by ten miles. Any stumble a little bit at the end I mean I thought he was you I thought he was going to be seat almost without a play. But that was that was such a -- I hate to disagree with Joe Morgan who is in the baseball -- a lot more baseball -- But he's dead wrong on this one you don't works with a left handed hitter the -- it's not it's not partner. Because a right handed hitter because Ellsbury is going on -- on the right handed hitter in the weeks coming could take Jacoby head off. Not all wouldn't signaled that that's not the issue is his point was not only -- the lefthander. He said it takes longer for -- that -- that was the drug -- the protocol the play what I was ridiculous point but he appointment because there was collect it like in this case eighty though. That it masonic conceit Ellsbury coming. And could step out which but it -- a right handed hitter he could kill Ellsbury. Well right you know but. You know you're probably right but. Here's a question. Hot do you know. An and that I am I mean does it does the better. The better has no IDs -- right Georgia. It -- up in the book for every game -- probably. Is there some signals that somebody tartan I doubt it. I think it was important that you did a left handed hitter a right handed hitter -- the wooden always coming wouldn't see him and cap."

" Well he's halfway down the line anyway -- this it just so happened. I don't think there's a signal for because the signal for a you have to know all these things are going to happen you have to know that Andy -- is not paying attention you have to know. That. Posada is not in a great position he wouldn't be and he's not a great defensive catcher anyway. -- a great position to do it I mean so many things have to go right for that to happen -- you can just call --"

" And but but I'll tell -- the one thing I really thought. Watch and that I relief that is going to be safe by a -- it was -- it was probably closer than it should have been about the hadn't stumbled probably wouldn't stand by a mile. Let's talk about the -- that fell on the week and you -- Kansas City. When you went out there what was your thought process on what the story line was -- well -- what happened is. I went to Saint Louis Wednesday and Thursday and went to Kansas in the late in the day Thursday."

" And I just figured here today where they were sitting -- who in theory. There was a lot of possibilities. Maybe that they would move around or is that. You know I thought that Scott pioli having ban in new England and how much they love to make trades. I mean no teams in this decade has made more draft day trades it moves in the England patriots. And I just thought that there was a good chance eatery to. Or three. That something good that's interesting was going to happen. And unfortunately for me I was wrong. But it was interesting being there insurgency in. You know Scott pioli Todd Haley is you know in new regime there is interesting scene. You know massachusetts' -- Steve stake -- You know and now Billy if any that GM later target about all the times he ran Boston he's a big marathon guy. Now there's always some -- that's. There's always some sort of Boston -- no matter where you go bullet at the end of the day I think the stories around the league that you probably couldn't predict. When I made my plans were significantly better than the stories in those two cities. Peter why they picked Tyson Jackson we were all convinced that Aaron curry was going to be again. Well I wasn't but. The I think what ended up happening Michael is that. You know Tyson Jackson and Scott pioli mine is Ty Warren. And you say oh my god it's -- I'd take it three. Okay well if there was a way to take Tyson Jackson -- it and and he -- traded down to -- paid unless of course he would have. But I think Scott's view was that. You have to play the cards you're dealt. We feel for our team. In -- 34. And so even though they love curry and they considered Hillary strongly. Eight just felt that for their team right now they had to have the best 34 in this -- Did you agree with most of the pre draft assessment that this was not a very good draft and it most of the players picked at the top of this press were wrapped. We're going to be grossly overvalued. Well I think it's ludicrous to guarantee. A guy who -- it's 6040 chance he'll make it like Matthew Stafford. It's foolish to -- team 41 point seven million dollars we'll -- that. But that's that's -- that your working in right now we can argue all day mean if this is Detroit talk radio what I'd be saying news. Pardon me when Tom one. Out of their minds for -- that guy that money when. Matthew Stafford had no. Leverage. -- all other than the fact that he knew that they wanted to -- was Stafford leverage he was -- pick pick at number ten. Fourteen I don't know but he wasn't it get picked in the top five or six that's for absolutely for sure. So you know that's the thing the only thing that sort of bothered me -- on that particular pick but I think. One of the things dale about this draft is that. I thought. Like Aaron curry. Is going to be a really good player. For Seattle for a long time. Willie B -- superstar. I don't know I don't think I doubt it he's not a big sack guy it wasn't in college so that's a bit of a projection. And you know these tackles and tackles don't show up you never write about them on Monday but. US the dolphins about Jake Long Peyton and the dolphins are euphoric that they got Jake Long on their team. And he's going to be here franchise left tackle for the next ten years. An end and just one other thing I mean the St. Louis Rams. Have a chance they love Mark Sanchez love them. Absolutely thought that. He's -- via a really good quarterback for the next ten years which you know what if they pick marks changes he would have been David Carr. He would have been a punching bag -- get the worst tackle situation. Of any team in football. And Billy if -- the very smart thing he ignored the hue and cry in the community and even by some people inside his building just sit. This guy will never be a great player for us. If we don't fix our offensive line so coverage let's not warm and ourselves. And get this guy and then not have a panned out because of the people or."

" Protected. Peter a look at the patriots draft and to me it was business as usual they get a couple of future picks they'd trade down twice. Out of the first round pick up for second rounder is value value value. You called it uninspiring --"

" Well you know I don't I think at some point. You know -- you look at it draft. And you say okay. You know let's fill X number holes that we have right now let's -- X number of holes -- solid players. And you know I would never in a million years ever. Question. Long term what the patriots do in the draft because Bill Belichick is proven. That he knows. You know and even with Scott gone I think bill has proven that he can definitely build a team. The right way so the only reason I call it inspires that I just got the impression. Watching that trades in the first thing that first of all you know for awhile maybe they didn't want to -- it then. They lost the guy who they liked. You know and now I'm not positive who it was I mean I thought for awhile it might be air would. But that really doesn't figure because they -- already traded down. You know. From. 26 to 41. -- buffalo picked what's army they could've picked would it 26. Before they traded to Green Bay. -- and you know I just I felt like maybe there was a guy out there they wanted that they didn't get so that they just dumped out of the pick. But again you know what the patriots did. They've set themselves up as the power player probably along with Philadelphia for next year's draft. And you look at it in there are a lot of players. Who can make the patriots and be impact guys. On the patriots now so the patriots are at different position. Than most teams in the league they're in a position where they're not drafting. To fill fifteen spots. You know they're drafting to fill -- before that the one thing that. That surprised me a little bit I guess it shouldn't after taking Darius butler on the heels of of take it will height and and lately and last yet Wheatley last year a you know I I really thought I guess. Ellis Hobbs. Paid for the sins. Of you know the secondary getting picked on last year. That that they said look I mean if were gonna bring butler you know we've drafted these other guys were going to let them play. And now may be the weaknesses of -- you know the size in. The fact it may be gambled a little bit too much and it -- weaknesses may -- came home to roost but. That was a little bit of a surprise. We've meat trade him to Philadelphia but again you look at what they've done and it can't be shock."

" Now. I don't I don't buy that there was that guy in this draft they want it didn't give in less if you. If you if you agree with me here. I feel like with the picks that they had in the draft has so much flexibility going it. That they really wanted to identify any guys whether that Percy -- and Pettigrew or anybody else. They have the ability to go ghetto and still drop down and and in their other picks and pick up picks for next year's well."

" No question about it which is why. Michael I I have no inside information on this whatsoever -- I don't I don't know what happened. But if you ask me when I'm watching this and I see them move down. I mean at some point you're almost moving down for currency alone. You know and and I just felt like. You know to me there was a guy in this draft I don't and I don't know who it was but I just felt like there was a guy in this draft -- they liked. Who they lost out and they said okay EO all these guys like when they went from 26 the 41. One of the things I was thinking man is that they've got to have ten guys within a fraction of each other on their board. Why pay. You know you're probably paying. 35%. Last at 41 in -- or it at 26 the one thing about. Mean Mike I wrote about this the other day that with the patriots went. From. Seven. To ten last year they knew that they were still getting Jerod Mayo tan. But when they went from seven to ten. What they did in making that move. Was they save themselves millions of dollars I forget the number they say that so that the younger wrote sixteen million dollars sick -- that's huge yeah. And when you do that -- get the same player you absolutely have to do with it. You have to do it I was old got a little bit of this argument with pioli the other day. In. In in Kansas City when we were talking about. You know if he could trade out of three. -- that draft chart out the window. Because the draft chart doesn't account. For what's happened in the last 567 years which is that. The pics at. 234. And five -- actually it's actually huge it is -- image to be there rather animated image because of all the money."

" Some people looked at the patriots draft and and they passed up on some linebackers even some outside linebackers who might have been a replacement for Mike Vrabel. They freed up some salary cap money with the trading of Ellis Hobbs to Philadelphia. They put two and two together and suggested that there is a handshake deal with Jason Taylor and play here do you believe that."

" I you know I asked that to work Zach Thomas the other day. Because he's in Kansas City now and he said he didn't know I said it's I mean. Why wouldn't go to -- I think the only reason he wouldn't go to the wing was that he does movies spam that's that's the only reason. It would really surprise me if -- football reason why he wanted to stay in Miami versus come up here. And I think I think what's going to happen at the end of the day I think eventually Jason Taylor's gonna sign here. Makes too much sense for him not to. I just I think it's but I think I think the one other thing dale and sometimes. Fans. Don't really understand this but it's it's reality but remember asking John Lynch. Last year about. You know what would happen if you were on this team and everything like that in. You know what what held you back over you know over the last few months. You know from coming here and all that in. One of the things he talked about was exit you know. I just don't know at this stage of my life. If I want to live and residents in for the next six months with my family 2000 miles away. And you know so if you've been there done that if you played the game. You know maybe you've got some bumps and bruises and some -- in your neck hurts your shoulders your back hurts why tempt fate. When you've got more money than you'll ever know what to do it anyway. And so I would not be so and I am not asked Jason Taylor as I've talked in quite awhile but. I don't I wouldn't be a bit surprised. If this. If if the if if the weight. Was all about him deciding. Hater dolphins going to give me an offer it's worth my while. Because I'd really rather not move."

" You know Peter it's so easy to pick on the raiders they selected. And Ohio you know Ohio University bobcat that even a bobcat like you've got the recognized for -- but but I'm I'm wondering are we targeting the wrong guy we always Al Davis is crazy out -- Is Davis making the pick or somebody who was able to hide under the caricature of Al Davis an organization."

" Well. You know Michael I'll just say this eight -- I'd probably target eight. Coaches GMs whatever -- various teams. Saturday. From 7 o'clock maybe midnight just. Get now. A judgment and then two more yesterday. Just trying to get a judgment of what happened and what they thought and I guess everybody the same thing not for the record I just am curious. Not be used in your name or anything but I just wanna know what what surprised you today. And five guys. Said -- raiders Darius Heyward. And I think one of the things that is that makes a lot of people in the NFL shake your head is that. There is not a living soul. On any team that had Darius Heyward day. As the top receiver in this draft for. The seventh player on the -- board. Before he went to the combined four to wave -- whatever that number was. You know before -- in this great forty. So why. Here's a guy who played at -- For three years. And had four counts for 100 yard receiving games. In three years. Why is it that you look at this guy in because he runs really fast one day. That you make him -- draft -- round higher. They really should go what does that now is that Al the last yet you can bet this Allen out of some personnel guy don't sell its now. And believe me it's now Alice make that call."

" There was say out a player. The Harvard player memory serves me correctly who told the Boston Globe. I tell you exactly what it's Harvard quarterback Chris does not. Told Craig Larsen of the Boston Globe the New York Jets called me at the start of the sixth round and -- I wasn't drafted there was a free agent deal. -- think the NFL commissioner would like to know about that."

" It's every team does that."

" And I think Harvard kid would be smarter than -- and everybody -- yeah."

" Make every he probably doesn't know -- against the rules. Really. You know. I I think I think every team. I think every team. Really knows. That you'd tell the guy -- look if you're not drafted. Were going to try to get -- free agencies that keep us in mind. It it it -- it just happens and I don't in you know what. Who cares. -- I don't I don't object to win at all I don't I don't see where the problem is if the guy gets drafted. You're marketing have a ministry is a free agent anyways so anyway."

" You know one thing that did surprise me a negative way. Was Denver with there first it taking notes John Marino and -- that surprise -- was well there. Well I shouldn't say vary because there're a lot of reports that they love notion now."

" I'll just say this. Having talked it to Josh several times. Throughout the Jay Cutler fiasco. And even beyond that. One of the things. I kind of like about him. Is that. I might say to him well -- you know you'd you'd get this pick from Cutler. And I mean obviously you need to focus on fixing the twenty ninth whatever the numbers twenty ninth -- football. You know it's. It is one of the things that I that I thought when I would say things like this he is in his boy he sees it will not necessarily. We got a lot of picks don't worry will be -- right. And I would kill the Broncos. For trading waiter one of their five next year except. This Alphonso Smith. Is such a bright guy and such a good player and such are clinging clinging cover quarter. That I actually think that might be really good deal long term now. The only way it's a bad deal by treating your next year's one for 59 corner. And basically trade the pick that you got one of the key picks. For Jay Cutler in effect. In one of the things that that would body you obviously if the Broncos stink this year end up drafted me. And you know if that happens the Seattle Seahawks luckiest team on the face of the year."

" My my last question for you and you wrote about this a bit today what you elaborate a little more. On the conversation it happened between. Eric Mangini and the browns and the jets you -- just think that there would be so much animosity there a lot of resentment but they were able to pull up the deal. And and you can tell people but what do you think the key to the trade was for --"

" He had you know what it. I don't want to take up too much time I won't but. And I hate to shamelessly plug might column but it's really a bit of an intrigue a bit of intrigue it led. This deal would be getting done but -- rule in the NFL. That if you. There's this player in this draft -- you on the safety for the jets signed a one year. Offer sheet for one point five million dollars to play for Cleveland. In March the jets match the offer sheet so we stayed with the jets. When that jets and browns started discussing a trade the browns made it clear that any trade would have to include a curriculum. For you know for us to move up to number five so that jet set OK that's fine. And the browns cat person on Aponte who used to work for the jets for fifteen years. Said to Eric and -- last Friday now wait a minute Eric he can't. This can't happen. Unless the jets get -- anyone's permission. And so quite literally Friday night. That jets hat to get a permission slip in essence. Facts to them from -- mile after day after they emailed a PDF file. On their computer to aid the problem he had to print this out sign the fact that he would accept a trade if you are part of it in men. You know before this Rex Ryan had to get on the phone element what are awkward conversation this is. We might treat you we might not we need your permission betrayed you and if we don't treat you we expect you to come back and be happy back up. You know tick -- Jim letter in Kerry Rhodes but it's just kind of unique situations something that I thought. Kind of added to that general mayhem of that trade between the jets in the browns."

" We always look talk and football -- but the the day after the draft weekend it's especially on thanks for taking a few minutes Peter. SI dot com. Joining us. I guess vacancy on the eighteenth -- hotline AT&T your world delivered but it was even honor outlined the --"
