Dale and Michael remember "Flat Dan" Williams

" Kind of a personal moment. We'll take you back to August 17 of this year. When we were broadcasting live at Fenway Park and it was the Jimmy Fund radio telephone and I have the date off a little bit but I am pretty sure -- audacity. And we had an hour. In the midst of of doing that day that it just kinda -- in the -- for us. It in included toolbar favorite kids who we've ever dealt -- from the Dana Farber cancer institute. One was so uplifting and positive then and joyful. And it was Torre Rambo who we gave her birthday cake it was a birthday. And we sang portly happy birthday to her and her mom got so emotional. And talked about you know she didn't think she was gonna have her daughter there for her birthday. And proceeding Torre. We talked one of the of the favorite kids than we've ever had the pleasure of getting to know down there at the Dana Farber. You guys -- flat Dan but that was just his nickname. Because when they made a trip to to spring training Dan was to -- ago a couple of years ago. And they did a paper cut out of -- and they took him on the trip. And all of the players took pictures with flat damn. And they put together a photo album when they came back and they presented the photo album to damn. And and they joked about the of this is flat Bannan and all the guys were joking around -- you."

" He was like he was like the Forrest -- of that trip but he was that was Derrek -- flat Dan with Curt Schilling is off flat band with Tim Wakefield he was hanging out. When they were hanging -- the Red Sox play was with all the kids down there so was there way of saying. Even though you're not well enough to join us on this trip will always think about you -- you always -- witness because you're one of us."

" And this year. Dan wasn't feeling very well. Buddy wanted to be with us and he wanted to to -- talk about what was going on and he wanted to talk about the importance. Of the radio telethon. And give me an idea what this kid was like he showed up. And he really wasn't feeling very well. And we said look we'll put him on right now will move everybody around what we'll put him on right now let him go home he doesn't feel well. And what we were told was knowledge you know people are expecting. To hear him at a certain time he doesn't want to disappoint anybody who was tuning in to -- room. He'll wait and he sat out there on the lobbing him and when his time came Dan came in to join us again. And I just -- to be here a few seconds. Of one of the toughest kids I've ever met in my life talking to us back on August 17."

" Did spent two -- on staying. It's also -- to marry me my leg. He also must find itself right now it's a plane lands. Unless people donate money in final clinical trials is nothing much else associated do attract."

" I was a sixteen year old kid telling us. There's nothing left from when he's sixteen. He discerned sixteen yeah net that was a sixteen year old kid telling us. There's nothing more they can do for. There's nothing left. And he knew there was nothing as you could hear. After we finished we were told by. One of the favorite people in our lives Lisa sharper. Than his parents that he never talked about it before he would never talked about. The knowledge in his mind. And he knew that it was -- right. And at the age of sixteen you're not supposed to be thinking about. The supposed to be thinking about to -- adding that. This is this is the kid. Your -- your daughter brings home and says dad this is my date for the prom. You know this is the kid who's out shoveling your driveway. In the middle of the winter storm and you didn't ask him to he just looked out the door and he's at their shoveling your driveway."

" For for those who didn't see. It instantly at the obviously it's a radio telethon some people this on the radio some people listen and watch for those didn't watch. You didn't see this kid okay he. Always a big smile. Had those freckles. Always willing to. Always willing to hang around in and tell a story or two or three love sports. He was sick and he knew he was sick but when he was asked about. The cool thing about the Jimmy for a nobody said coping is signals Patriots tickets and get those Celtics tickets that really liked -- It didn't advocate bringing along more Patriots and Celtics tickets I'm pretty happy in the Red Sox take of those things equal to. But I really. Nice. Fun -- And wise."

" Dan Williams died Saturday morning. They've tried as best they could to keep them at home and keep him comfortable. It got to the point last week where that was really no longer an issue. He went into Children's Hospital late last week. His parents. Sat on either side of his -- Stephen and -- one holding one hand one holding the other. His brother got home from college. To be there. And Saturday morning. As peacefully as these things can go. Dan Williams died. It's it's both. The hardest part of what we do. And the coolest part. He was a great kid. He shouldn't be dying at sixty."
