" Right now we will talk with our body Peter King from Sports Illustrated SI dot com and of course NBC sports. Peter King has brought to you by Fred seat Church insurance because it's not just the policy. Its rookie hi Peter I don't."
" You know little -- this guy in the world is today the world of sports. No well I mean he's got a nice for the future -- them but the lucky if sky and the world of sports today. -- Tommie Harris defensive tackle for Chicago Bears."
" Y I Eric label like that guy there's nobody in Chicago bandits and I. --"
" Definitive I saw that this morning I just said to myself. Got a lucky guy Barrett is has so that is absolutely amazing -- the -- cubby fans."
" I think they'd be ripping them for getting suspended for one game."
" I mean. No problem the problem is. That they just -- did you billion dollars in the off season you know they basically Tatum the native and eight million dollar a year player. He's been banged up this year. Didn't and didn't didn't play last. I didn't play last week. You know because he's been hurt. And now because of -- Plaxico Burress disease he's always late so. What Lee Smith finally just said hey a year get suspended for a week and EL in the grand scheme of things is not that big deal but. You know Tommie Harris probably the best player on the Bears. You know now I don't think he's surpassed their locker -- at least in my mind in the mind a lot of people play them. And that that is said that is a huge blow not that they can't beat the Lions without them but just what it says about that team."
" Really he's really surpassed Urlacher. While -- tell me a lot like your thinking. He's playing that level you think yeah."
" Well they MTV has and so far this year but what I'm saying is that Justine general. But kind of bait. An instinctive defense defensive tackle. Okay and beat good slashing player and also hold it hold up against the run at the point of attack. There aren't that many of those in the NFL and you know the off season. Look what happened Shaun Rogers it was a bit of a different player as is Marcus Stroud but I mean the NFL. Really rewarded defensive tackles this past off season the same way -- rewarding wide receivers at the same play that. You know leave the you don't somebody teams now we're paying here receivers 89 million a year if it's the same way -- really good. Offensive tackles so. I mean just in general I just find it I just find it that's kind of the right things start position. In the NFL that two people -- really paying now."
" I know this is really saying something for an organization that's been as weird as the Oakland Raiders. But this has been the weirdest week maybe in the history of the Oakland Raiders what the hell is going on out."
" Well a couple of things mean first of all the -- Lane Kiffin. In my opinion. Almost had three strikes and you're out last year. And I'll tell you what the three strikes work before the draft. He wanted to he wanted to trade for. Matt -- couldn't do it was rebuffed in his attempts within the organization. To get enough used to do that. Shot ended up obviously go to Houston. He was interstate and Brady Quinn and Calvin Johnson he wasn't really interested in Jamarcus Russell. And then obviously on draft weekend he's -- we can't have cancer like Randy Moss on this team we got to treat him. So now traded up eventually traded obviously in New England but I think. Didn't want to do it wanted to try to bring Ravi Moss back into the fold but but they didn't do it and then. With three weeks left in the season. Al Davis skipped the phone call. From Arkansas booster quick -- believed to be Jerry Jones but I don't know that for back. And he gets a call -- says the Arkansas boosters that we do allow when he -- to interview for the head coaching job Arkansas. And out thought about it that was blind sided. But it but he thought about it makes it look this guys probably American work out anyway but he -- I -- I won't -- interviewed during the season but after this season. If you want them. Well just dissolve our contract and you could have. Arkansas was unwilling to wait for the damage was done because obviously. If Lane Kiffin gets that call our Al Davis gets that call about Lane Kiffin you don't think Lane Kiffin -- interest that. Obviously he's been feeling around about that job so. Going into the off season I think yeah I think not only to bloom was off the Rose but I was already looking for divorce attorney then. And then it just continue to get worse this year I think Al's. You know people who work with -- people who know -- else say that his biggest problem by far these days. Is the ability to make a decision. And so he should of gotten little Lane Kiffin. In the summer or in the spring or maybe last winter but he didn't. He hung in the air went down and now Vista part goes what we have to deal with."
" There this may be the first and last time that I put. Sarah Palin and Al Davis in the same sentence but."
" I wish. It I did not I'd like I saw that when I saw that I was very good yet -- Monday morning quarterback. But in in the case of Al Davis Al Davis had a little Sarah -- and -- that. The expectations. Were so low that when he came out and but a few sentences together people said wow. I'll he's actually not a fumbling fool you really can talk. Do you think that the the characterization of the portrayal. Of Al Davis is a little exaggerated and and in."
" Yes yeah I do because most people think he's. He's a bumbling powerful and Al Davis has his marbles and there's no question about it -- team at league meetings and he knows everything that's going. And you know what that's one of the problems in the ageism and our society. We think because the guys 79 years old east it -- somewhere. -- there's a good chance city is -- Al Davis relatively speaking. -- is healthy and he said the other day at a little sidebar Raptors press conference and his mother -- 203 Ian. He's going to be around for a long time god willing to probably will be. I had a great conversation with John met yesterday I called them and I said John. Can any coach can succeed. Working without Davis an -- how did you do it. And any any great lineup -- Monday they have had a had a great life he said basically listen. He said you have to become his partner. You have to talked over the you know what you have to do you gotta argue with them. And he brought up this great point he said you know the year that. Did Jack Tatum and Jack Youngblood came out in the draft we had knock down drag out fights. Madden pointed Tatum Al wanted young what I guess and I know that -- did -- quantitative. And ended up that they took paid him. And and so the pot met his point was Al does not take arguing personally. And he wants somebody argue -- that's -- part of it right now guys. I think -- surrounded by eight people it is organization. Who basically are yes men and they don't say pay out don't do this. And and I -- when he got the job -- Bob Lane Kiffin was going to be that guy. And I think it the end of the day. Lanes stopped arguing -- them. Eight -- may not have stopped totally. But I think he didn't argue with -- enough and try to persuade him enough at the end and then. He leapt into the same thing at all former raider coach is -- into which is basically have to try to work around that was much that I can't and when he tried that. --"
" Your buddy Warren Sapp finally gave that -- all that you were. Would you think of his comments about the Raiders and Al Davis."
" Listen to Warren -- emailed to me you know I don't know if this is very very inside stupid. You know sort of a little nick did I'd been Evan was -- Could I wrote these told somebody that would the Boston Globe and in a story Labor Day weekend. Then at the old inside the NFL. On HBO stunk -- fastball wasn't any good anymore. And so I -- Monday morning quarterback of that. Boy that's you don't that is seeing that that old dilapidated horrible show one at. Studio Emmy for the best sport show three of the last six years. I don't know what the heck beat talking about and ends so like kind of belittle them a little bit we have -- an email back and forth where. Where ice they come on bring your fastball lets go. And so after the show I got this email late Wednesday night. And it was it was a four word email from -- goes. It's that how fast was it. Takes that he didn't he had used his fastball yet but anyway. -- what that meant. Is that -- was far too intrusive. And and the people who worked in a raider organization the last few coaching -- basically say. You know now is concerned -- every everything they -- their accountant media paper clips at the end of the day. So -- basically. -- said that that's somethin' that and that a lot of people thought for years that that was involved the play calling in. The Raiders have since vehemently denied it so we'll see work goes."
" Tom cable is the interim coach I don't think he'll be the long term coach I think that Al will hire somebody in the off season. If York anybody. I would you take this."
" I think I could that's the question of asking who would who would take this job tool in their right mind would take this job now. I'll tell you would take this job."
" Somebody who likes argue."
" Well -- somebody ought to be able to take his job Jim fassel or Denny Green would take this job because nobody else -- hire. And they want to job and they want one last chance. To grab the -- and both of those guys look at Jamarcus Russell and eight rule. If you say hey this could be the greatest thing in the world I'd love to be able to keep tried my -- that this guy. Now having said all that I believe I said is right from the start that the reason it Lane Kiffin took this job in the first place was. Great little. Wipe out terrorism may be great experience to be an NFL head coach plus he knew he wasn't the last three years. And so well skinny work a year year and a half and make six million bucks well as it turns out probably not -- because. I bet he'll be in any grievance and maybe in in the courtroom for a long time trying to get -- his money Trammell but. I think Lane Kiffin took it a little bit. Not only pretty experience but to get paid and then just still be in good shape at age 3435. To be a head coach of the big time college program. I don't know which one that'll be who's going to fired their coach Syracuse well he'd get ties to the Syracuse they'd be. And end you know I don't know where we'll go -- went up its head coach of the college teams sometime around December 15 I would think."
" Peter Jimmie Johnson's that are fox last week that. The Detroit Lions should hire Scott pioli and pay him whatever he wants. -- wind do you agree with that in two the most important question do you think Scott pioli would leave New England."
" I think he might. I mean the big question in the air is going to be you know we'll -- I I'll give you need to be cancer with that I had the chance serious would he go. I think Scott someday you'll go to try to run his own program whether this is going to be the right one or whether it's a dead end job. I don't know but someday I do think he'll go but having said that you have to ask yourself is this going to be the right one. Because what they're going to do is they're not going to E. Think about. Going out and hiring search firms and having the NFL help much they're going to do. Until they're absolutely sure that they're out of that this year and that deer season is a lost cause okay and then. They will go out and and try to interview -- usual suspects in the best in the brightest young people. Who -- GM candidates in the league might list. Would be pioli had to be Chris politte and Indianapolis who's doing more and more. There. As as time goes on and white who I think definitely want to stick tight restrictions -- stretches wings a little bit. And George Cuttino. Who I think -- a really smart smart scout in Baltimore. And it -- helped that reform that roster over the years but. I think that a lot of people in football automatically believe. That's got wouldn't go anywhere. And that you know I don't also go anywhere not. But I think it's probably a little bit. Two in each year to say that because he is turned down opportunities in the past that he would turn down this one. Came to bear and I have no idea they Beatrice student -- not. Nor -- Lions yet because they haven't even begun. This process."
" According to a show called the serious blitz -- Adam Schein and John -- Reilly partners the executive search firm has come up with at least the first list of candidates to replace -- optional. I'll read you the list that they reported and just."
" Got Don Hasselbeck -- I was surprised."
" Out of town and -- I was gonna say it's got Bruce Laird Jason belzer Jameer Miller Mike can Troy Vincent George -- Robert Smith. Clark Gaines Bart Oates Harrison Barton Nolan Harrison and Don Hasselbeck."
" There's some great people on that list really really -- out mark. There's some very very smart people on that list my feeling is that. You know you look you look at that list in the most experienced guys. I mean to meet the one thing they have to do. You know they have to decide whether they want to go to Donald fehr -- More -- they want to go and I'll pick one of those names up Don Hasselbeck group you want a guy whose -- professional. Labor negotiator in essence. This being the richest sport. On -- Well all our D want a former player who like Upshaw. Sweat. You don't sweat it didn't lead in and and all that just like all the other players did. Is budget good guys on that list but I think it's one of those things that the NFL PA is going to have to determine. I would be surprised if before this is all over and talking to people at the NFL PA. I understand that list and and I had heard about this list. But I do you think that they're going to be people audience former players on that list before were all sitting down."
" Peter do you believe in the Buffalo Bills the undefeated Buffalo Bills."
" You know I believe that they'll probably be a playoff team. And NF -- had to if I had to put money down right now I'd probably put money down on them to win this division. But. I'm not I'm not so far into gear corner that I think they're going twelve and four. This is this a team that has had to come from behind in the second half the last three weeks at a -- that's a good trade. I think if you have to come from behind and home to beat Oakland. If you're down by eight points at halftime to the Rams. I -- I think we ought to just try to put the -- Teddy Beckett the bags just yet. And let's see what happens over the next few weeks and to me. What I like about the bills right now is that they have a quarterback Trent Edwards nineteen to -- first quarter deceit and MVP. If he's played great in the second half of these games and yeah he's only got four touchdown passes so far but what he's got is. Gumption in the -- and -- and that and the -- the kinda calmed nature to play great when it counts the most. I think if we look at this team may get a -- coming up. And then let's see where they stand after. A pretty tough stretch you know San Diego -- home at Miami gets -- all met New England. I mean that's not the Bataan death march but it's a tough stretch of games the the benefit for them at least the way I look at it. Is that. They have the ability with their schedule now because they got Cleveland they get Kansas City they kept secret sisco they got Miami twice. They had the benefit to be able to put a little distance between them into some of the other contenders in the AFC."
" The heck is going on in Travis Henry's life."
" it's clear that that Mike Shanahan didn't just cut out for ability and you know obviously. It's kind of disturbing. Thing when you. Just three or four months after you. Get dropped out of football that eerie at any cocaine distribution ring but hey you know it's not the first time we've seen that from an and it felt drop out."
" Shanahan knew Vince."
" No no I don't think he'd do it at all now I'm and there's no way because Mike. Has had problems like that before and his team there's absolutely no way that if he knew that this was an issue that he wouldn't ever paid."
" Now put the confetti back in the bag. The Buffalo Bills that means -- have some extra confetti now want to rated on the head of Brett Favre is that premature to after six touchdown passes."
" Here's the thing with Favre it'd be interesting talk -- mean -- this week and he said that that look in eighty. What has happened the first month of the season the coaches are learning hand he's learning to coaches he's learning differences remember on Monday Night Football. When he threw the ball and nobody. That Antonio Cromartie -- it was Cromartie intercepted. And this year everybody's seen what the world is going well that's a clear case. Every receiver. At one point in his route. And the Jets offense have a choice. Okay they have a route tree. And if they get confronted with -- who is that we press coverage they're going to do one thing if they get confronted with off coverage they're going to do another thing. And it's just a case were Jericho Cotchery and he ran. You don't read the opposite thinks that he should be doing. And those are the kind of things that are going to happen early wouldn't happen if it wouldn't matter it was far. Wouldn't happen who it was but it has been in one offense for sixteen years. Learning new receivers -- played with -- on the murder fourteen these things are going to happen now last week. He I mean he basically. They pared down to game plan. They did stuff that they were is that the receivers if he were comfortable is and they worked out stuff during the week. More. They've worked -- if you weren't things. And give them more often during practice. And I asked me in -- You know what type of thing so far about working with follower that you noticed -- said. The biggest thing it -- told this to the players on the team that. Look at how he responds to incredible adversity he comes to the bench and and after he can throw an interception. He's not our -- I am a bag of belief. It is -- what's next hero. And that he said it that way it's sort of like him being a quarter in some ways that that. You know that's the mentality you have to have. And the ability to forget what you've screwed up and move on. It's pretty important win every single play any game could be the most important player in the game so. I think I think America is going to work out. How far in Fargo I don't know and are sent me a really interesting -- Sunday night like there's Texan hey congratulations and everything. Great numbers six touch or whatever it said he wrote back that he goes. I hope when I leave here people -- talking about that something other than just stats. And so six touchdowns to him. If is a ho hum deal. You don't whether he wins or loses that. Is what matters to him I know it's a cliche but I can tell you for knowing the guy that's really what matters to."
" The -- is appreciate tunnel tucked in next week. And creator. Well okay maybe next time it shut if you quicken is like -- dot. -- and that's about it Tennessee football tales commencement the Red Sox that illegal. Peter King -- you by Fred -- Church insurance because it's not just the policy. It's the people."
