" Sports Radio -- 50 WEEI our number three dale and -- each and every Friday at this time we talked to Peter King our connection to the NFL's Peter King brought to buy 1800 Matt trysts the most comfortable mattresses on Arthur just a phone call away at 1800 -- like kick off for delivery by the post game show 1800 ME TT RE asks. Leave off the last S for savings on line at mattress dot com good afternoon mr. --"

" How're you guys thank Peter was going on that everything's going okay thank you better than the Yankees right now. And it they don't look very I think it would have been a lot better out just stated we decided -- a different direction."

" I mean that's the same thing that happened to me when I had my salary cut from 7000005 million I think it. It down I'm going to take it."

" That's beautiful do you look back to the NFL for a few minutes here and and we'll talk about what -- By acclamation has now become may be the best team in the National Football League Tom Brady graced the cover of your magazine this weekend. They certainly do have a rolling right now."

" Well I think the one thing that everybody. Wants to know. Right now is you know who out there is going to be able to to really give these guys -- game and I think Indianapolis will give the great game I don't think you need apples shall beat them. But I think Indianapolis -- really good game because Indianapolis is a great team now. Obviously this. I think in general what happens at this time of year is that you know you're 16 in seven games into the city senior week seven and and -- end and you've view of that what is going to happen here. They know what's going to happen in in January -- sort of preordained and it is -- Injuries can happen teams can get hot ice still thinks San Diego had a run in them they -- on it Chris chambers -- you know it's one of those deals where at least in my opinion. Plug in New England is the clear number one right now and deservedly so and I I think they're going to win it all but you know a year that's why you have to play the games obviously because ten games different things can happen. Different teams can get hot and injuries can happen so -- thing."

" Peter were obviously talking about New England you mentioned Indianapolis you mentioned San Diego you didn't mention Mike Tomlin and his Pittsburgh Steelers. I think they were a playoff team last year. That for whatever reason maybe it was a Super Bowl hangover didn't get it done what do you think about this team and their chances."

" You know why I think they've got a really good chance if they can play mistake free on offense and if they can keep -- running game going. Which both of which I think -- big questions because I think. Look the best thing that happened -- them. And this is this a weird thing -- fatalities on the best thing to happen to them as a coaching change because Ben Roethlisberger needed to be coached by somebody yelled. You know it was only bill Keller was Kendall is -- on you know -- they'd gotten it's sort of it cross hairs he didn't really trust Roethlisberger is that. That that was is that that you know his his best interest were being served by them. And I just look I just say this. I think -- right now is playing better than he has probably since midway through his rookie year mean it's amazing that the -- played probably his best football as a rookie. But I think now. He can win when Mike Tomlin came in Ben Roethlisberger basically said hey listen clean slate. We're going to work things out. We're going to be able to do things well and I think right now you look at Roethlisberger I know from talking to people at Pittsburgh this year you know he's been happy if he's ever been in the NFL that includes when he won the superbowl is great scene by the way after they win the Super Bowl read only -- the steeler locker room and Roethlisberger sitting -- it looks like either eight. He just got 15 rounds and Joe Frazier in his prime will be he'd it is dog just died and I sit and -- he just won the Super Bowl he goes yeah right now but I mean. He was clearly realizing he played awful in the game. And and and I think. That for some reason. Really was the -- of a bit of a downward spiral form and I think this really has energized the Mike and I think he's. He's much happier he's a better player any has been three years."

" I know he's a young guy so I'm not saying this because of his age but in previous years especially last year he seemed. Painfully immature to -- has that been addressed by Mike Tomlin you're you're -- agree with that assessment."

" Here's what Mike Tomlin -- so smart and in my opinion. I think someone is I mean look at Tomlin is why is beyond his years I mean when I -- them in May do historian for Sports Illustrated they came away but I mean my my wife is from Pittsburg he's big steeler fan and I came home and I say you're really really -- like this guy. I can say idiot he's going to be here for a long time. And one of the things that Tomlin did it was very smart he realized that band. Wanted to be a leader on this team. They went out to dinner he they'd talked about the inner workings of the team bending some information he told Powell you know Thomas told I was going to be everything like that it was really agree. Situation forbidden because he had a coach. Who wanted to know what he thought. Now the coach wasn't going to make his decisions based on what Mike Tomlin are based on what Ben Roethlisberger told -- wanted to do but. I think it was a great new start for guys who needed a new start."

" Peter we've had similar conversations in the past but I'll resurrected here. Hey are the Dallas Cowboys the best the NFC has to offer and -- if that's true how far behind the AFC -- is the NFC right now."

" Well I mean every Sunday night Monday morning early I'd I'd you know try to rank -- team. Newsweek right we -- and sitting here yesterday. Trying to figure out you know going into the weekend what I thought because my opinion has changed that talked as far as -- late late Sunday night and I mean I don't get any conference from him that. That this thing that they're Super Bowl express you know and and and you know they're winning and I think they are looking each other after a game -- that we win this -- but you know. Sometimes teams like that just get on -- roll and maybe they are the best team may -- like the saints last year they hit a lot of your defensive problems and they you know they went all the way to the NFC championship game and I think this year. There's going to be one of those teams in the NFC I don't know it's going to be and it might be -- Jeff Garcia stays healthy could be Tampa. It might be giants I wrote this week that. You look at you like me innings and this is the first time this late in the season he's been a 60% passer and you know Chris Palmer has done a fantastic job with the right meaning I mean a great job. He's really done a great job -- mechanics he's been a great job of making him accurate when he. He's mobile and I -- I think Palmer was a godsend for Eli Manning -- really do but. Having said all that they could beat a team Dallas completed seeing eight -- Tampa Bay 8080 aegis. There's a budget teams in the NFC that could challenge -- for supremacy I'd probably say Dallas is the best teams in the NFC right now and -- you know I think BK the patriots a good game but what really -- to Dallas right now I think. In the middle heard of as the year goes on is the ability to Stonewall the run it's what's killing Chicago right now I mean Chicago. Nobody's ever heard of dusty Dvoracek blood. You know the loss of him in the los before the season of tank Johnson. They just don't have people in the middle of their line to stop the run I've read this week where Tommy Harris said it's sort of a Super Bowl hangover and I just said and c'mon. I mean. You know you'd stop the run you're not have a Super Bowl hangover you're winning games to your offense is very it would -- I think I think that the NFC obviously is up for grabs in one of these teams going to get ardently."

" Peter you know as a journalist there's always a time when when journalists are tested now wade Phillips had -- things to say. About you and you had your response you moved up from that now Jason Taylor had some things to say. What's the story there it seemed like Jason Taylor reading between the lines here when he spoke with the local media in New England. Like he's getting tired of what's going on Miami but -- a spokesperson he said. I didn't quite hit the Peter King what's real story."

" Here's the story the story is he never said I I -- still hey listen I -- do you wish it was you. And not Chris chambers who got traded the other day. Yesterday you whatever Davis was Wednesday Thursday it was Wednesday do you wish we -- not Chris chambers any laughter because Peter -- put -- a tough spot. And he just laughed and I guess that well. I said do you think it's come into ahead I mean should they do somethin' in you know at the end of the season because they will see what happens at the end of the season but. Clearly I gave him every opportunity to say I want to be with the dolphins for the rest of my career end. You know either and any you know to be honest with the Michael you know lately you've been around people do and that's for awhile. I mean. If the patriots were oh and six right now and Tedy Bruschi word near the end of the line and he had a chance to go somewhere and a couple of teams really want them. Inked -- would say geez I I would be interested in going to play for whoever you know the scene of the day is and you know the same thing is true with Jason but I will say this about Jason Taylor. He's a very loyal Miami guy he reminds me so much at -- Marino because we've talked about this before. You know he wants to make sure that. It when he retires he's got home he's got business interests he's got everything like that in south Florida. So you know to be honestly the it's not his best interest right now to say he wants to be traded or in the offseason he wants to go somewhere else. And I totally understand why he said -- except."

" Here's a great stat from my great Cody is confident in the Miami herald check this -- Peter. Since 1999 only one of 65 players drafted by the dolphins. Has made a pro bowl and now."

" I got the better step -- that that's you know what that's darn good but I at this. Okay between 1998 is going to be my stat of the week in Monday morning quarterback this week -- free preview 1998 to 2003. Okay the Miami Dolphins had a total of 59. Players eager under that they've retreated -- detectives draft choices 49 choices -- players being treated for. And those guys right now those draft pick would be between -- your players. Among those guys on the patriots would be like Richard Seymour Tom Brady is a decent -- Basically the backbone the core of the patriots Super Bowl team came in the drafts from 90 to 2003. Of those 59 players on the dolphins zero on their active."

" So bad. Like you know who who who's to blame for this."

" It's okay I'll tell you who's to blame. Changing coaches with different philosophies so that. When nick -- becomes the coach K he's going to want to different kind of player 8888 Indians I hit some positions different size speed you know he wants a bigger whatever. If if if if if nick Saban is the coach he's going to want to different -- then cam Cameron. When cam Cameron as a coach he's going to want to different guys and Dave wannstedt wants it. Okay and -- they had Randy Mueller in the in this -- regime Randy Mueller was not make it any of the personnel decisions it was nick Saban. So in essence I mean if you think about it this way you go back to like the Bob tackles Jimmie Johnson. Era okay they -- had four different people handling the front office and personnel management side and that to me as a recipe for disaster with the patriots. You know. That I mean I'm sure that Scott -- Bill Belichick have differed on some players in the past but when they come out of that room. Very united front you know and they lasted now this is -- season together in New England. That is what determines where these succeed or fail if you got the coach and the Andy and the player acquisitions side. Totally on the same page and they haven't had that."

" Peter I think there are times when people who love someone have to step in and tell them you know maybe what you got -- here isn't the best idea for you -- exactly I think I think somebody should of stepped in and told Dan Morgan you know continuing to play is not a great idea. I think somebody needs to tell Trent green that -- and I fear for what could happen with players like that if they continue to try to play this game."

" Well -- I'll just tell you this you know one of the things that the NFL has done a great job on in the last year. Is that they have Irian heading out much higher for concussion management than they had in the past okay now a just tell you this speedy young maintains to this day that the reason. That he had to retire he got cleared bite to. Noted neurologists they said you're fine you can go back and played football but the hue and cry about people saying port speed you couldn't play anymore you're going to be a vegetable -- you're -- going to be scrambled you know that you wouldn't cry over that eventually force Steve young. Out of the sport of football not a doctor saying you shouldn't play anymore. So I would only say this I think I think in theory failure absolutely a 100% right but in practice even though we all stayed at a Holiday Inn express last night were not neurologists. And I think right now we have to let that neurologists tell Trent green what he should do. Final decision hasn't been may I talk to Randy Mueller about this on Monday -- said look there's been no decision made yet and we're going to respect the medical process in this. -- you know what failure probably right. But I do think that that smarter people that -- have to make that decision."

" I'm Peter I'd love London one of my favorite cities in the world. They may even have a Holiday Inn express in London but I'm not sure I won a Super Bowl there what you think of this idea that. Roger Goodell seems we've -- having superbowl London."

" You don't sometimes what I think is good about Roger Goodell in general. Is that he's not afraid of new ideas. And Roger Goodell did not save this week we're going to play a Super Bowl in London. What he said in essence was we're going to investigate -- superbowl on the and I see no problem with that at all now. Do I think it'll happen in the next 20 years probably not because if you do go to London. What you're doing is you're taking a Super -- away from a pity -- taken 500500 million dollars in economic impact or whatever it is always for Mets city and and away from one of your 32 franchises but I just like the fact that that for instance like investigating putting the first round of the draft on Friday night. -- which I would be -- Absolutely totally in favor of doing that's Saturday I mean -- all in -- by about 6 O'Clock in the afternoon and and I I think it would be great to put may be the first half of the first round of the -- first round on Friday that I think it'd be great but just the fact. That he is investigating things he's trying thing. You know I would I -- them this summer. And one of the things he said was you know there's no there's no harm. In investigating new ideas you know you're not coming out saying that -- going to do something you're just looking in to things. And what that does to like think it gets columnist writing about it it gives people in the league opining about it. It gets people thinking about doing things -- and the things that that I think sometimes in the NFL because the league is an ATM. Because it's the most successful sports league on the planet because it's got it does no wrong it's it's all powerful sometimes they think it was just keep things go on the way they're going which is is fine. But I also think that. There's no harm in investigating doing things to different way."

" Well let leads me to my final question do you think that it's a good idea for Ralph Wilson and the Buffalo Bills to -- In my opinion disrespect their season ticket base by wanting to take one of their home games you know two and a half hours away."

" Well dale that is -- questioning you'll find people in buffalo cool you know are putting into -- Ralph Wilson voodoo -- although you know they love the guy. But dale this is a matter for buffalo in a lot of ways and they are not going to say this but this in a lot of ways of matter from buffalo a matter buffalo for economic survival. And you know the market is too small the areas so it is too depressed. It's you know in New Orleans is league as far as you know generating money outside the free of charge from the business community and they have to do everything humanly possible. I think to try to save this team and play have this team play in buffalo for the next 20 years. Which I really don't see happening quite frankly but I think that. What Ralph Wilson is doing is he's trying to say listen you don't may be what happens here. We played even in Toronto maybe we play one pre season game in Toronto but. We take a couple of games a year fight six years down the road. And we play him in Toronto. And we start to get the business base in Toronto to come over to -- our boxes to advertise without a little bit more. And can help plus it'll make more money that would make him right now because it's going to be hard to survive if we go."

" I just a couple quick things on the way out wine. I've gone from buffalo to Toronto about an hour and a half so they can happen."

" Not bad they didn't get all that against a kind of sound like Bob Kraft trying to sell patriots stance on playing home games in Hartford but I."

" I cannot tell you this in defense of Bob Kraft did you know."

" It was a sweet deal I'm glad I didn't take it."

" They not only wasn't a smart because smart way to operate that that whole thing which you know what if that's stadium. It was built on the banks says of the Connecticut river. And the patriots were six to know right now. You don't think -- people because I had 50 people I think people would be going there maybe there'd be a few different season ticket holders then then the world that right now but you know if you win people --"

" and here's a vital thing. We're going to have a game seven on Sunday at Fenway Park what do you think."

" These aren't that I think so I think so it's yeah."

" That's not that's not a ringing in."

" It is going to ringing endorsement because I I've heard you I first want to I want a couple of questions answered okay number one is just very going to be in the lineup for the last two games I think -- that that have -- oh the loyalty and I really liked Terry Francona put. That this is this is ridiculous. You know Coco Crisp -- shell of himself you know it's gotta be some mental thing now he can't even put bunt down but. I would say that -- in the other thing I would say all the things that have been written. Instead in the last few days critical about the Red Sox the one that is really unjust is the indictment of Daisuke Matsuzaka for how we pitched that game. Okay because okay there was there's a home run hit by Kenny Lofton. About six inches away from Ramirez's ball hit last night that it J. D. Drew was one step faster not blaming him he'd be. He got -- fast he would have caught the ball as so I mean there's two rounds another run scorers with Travis Hafner -- out a ball that that the you know Indian field. And another run it comes in on a ball it's three feet out of -- simple ground ball it's three feet out of Pedroia is reached not saying it's. Looking nothing like that that's baseball and it's fine it was just the outcome was right all I'm saying it is. Matsuzaka pitched a good game. And yell he will be okay if if I know that he's going to pitch that quality of game Sunday. And they can be a little bit more patiently with Westbrook you know I'd be I'd be a lot more confident that I probably sound right now but. They look it's funny at least two games six maybe making it they give the crowd can get and Carmona head again like would it look like it got got in his head the last times so it'll be fun."
