    Outfielder Ryan Kalish missed almost all of 2011 due to a pair of injuries he suffered, first when he suffered a partial tear of the labrum in his shoulder while making a diving catch and then suffering a bulging disc in his neck. Ultimately, he required surgeries to repair both conditions. Now, he is with Double-A Portland as he works his way back. The 24-year-old talked with Portland play-by-play man Mike Antonellis to discuss his progress, his uncompromising style of play and the broader perspective on the game he's gotten from his time on sidelines.

On that day, Bogaerts, the Red Sox' top prospect, was promoted from Double-A Portland Pawtucket, with the 20-year-old becoming one of the youngest position players in the affiliate's history. On that same day, right-hander Anthony Ranaudo punched out 13 batters for Double-A Portland, the most strikeouts by a Red Sox minor leaguer since Jon Lester in 2005.
