Jose Iglesias, Juan Carlos Linares and Adalberto Ibarra have all received significant bonuses to sign with the Sox, while the club was wiling to spend heavily in an effort to acquire Aroldis Chapman last offseason. In this episode of Minor Details, we look at the reasons underlying the increased defections, the appeal of the Cuban market to Major League Baseball teams, the Red Sox' place in that market, and the efforts that the Sox have undertaken in order to assist players from Cuba with the many transitional challenges that they face to playing in the U.S. Joining the podcast this week are Red Sox outfield prospect Juan Carlos Linares, Red Sox minor league coach Alex Ochoa -- who spent much of the 2010 season with Iglesias in order to help his transition to the U.S. -- and Edwin Mejia, an agent whose client list has included a number of Cuban prospects, including Chapman and Ibarra, among others.
