Dec 16, 2013|

We discuss the length of the suspension to the Bruins' Shawn Thornton and whether or not it was too lengthy of a penalty.

Transcript - will not be 100% accurate

And not about the shown important things -- that came down we talked about all last week and by the end of the week you and I both agree eighteen seemed about there eight to twelve games in a fair and a twelve seemed are -- -- -- going to be twelve. I'll be annoyed but I'm not -- like come on to the radio rant and rave about it. Fifteen is just plain stupid. Fifteen people is. Is sure why that is -- -- over the -- 38 game suspension in baseball. How much a catch 20% of his season OK let's go on that because though because of this because we know what it did though we know what did he went to a guy. Who it was not a hockey -- he went up to Rome wasn't -- He went to a guy who did not want to fight them he took them down. You know. When he was unconscious on the -- so he hit a -- it was a well you know what it is no. And that was its first it was just bringing Israelis and colleges like makes it sound as if a guy's -- -- in the eyes he just keeps hitting OK and look at -- down didn't -- fight -- him. And I -- yes and he hadn't had any major incidents in his career but it's a fifteen game suspension. And NHL didn't make an example out of him. He was a pawn in this game where they wanted to make it clear. That they take concussions seriously it's -- they happened to use a guy. Who was when they're good -- -- their guys who lives by the so why would you into -- All right take your guard guy leadership and example and go make an example of political make an example of us out of coconuts a million people you could choose to make an example out of why would it be -- -- who's got a perfect pedigree. It perfect past. Why is he the guy you go after why do you ignore the context of the game we give them fifteen. It doesn't make sense don't much like I would. As this is going to be the new standard unless oracle because -- -- into that this is a joke okay been a joke that was under. On the radio in Pittsburgh on Saturday after this came down. And if you didn't have a problem for you if you were surprised. By penguins fans before. In this before this happened and do you think about the penguins when. The Bruins played them last year the when the playoffs well you'll be shocked now. Some people there wanted him banned from the game bomb -- I'm a little bear what -- him out. Or more. -- -- spooked me at the same situation. So I'm an NHL to go crazy and go that far. But an extra what they really did soft with the tacked on probably an extra three games not. It's always act on an extra seven -- top twelve games it's probably the easiest targets at Richmond but on that I got some tweets over the weekend that -- WEEI -- isn't happening -- -- -- that this is insane given his his reputation given all the rest -- the context of the game and the response from from -- -- -- Canadian fans around the around their country hysterical. That your honor that was my first murder. A bomber that's all that's -- man carried off on a stretcher and -- think that's harsh at least you're not a homer and those are two of like a hundred that they came back to me right away. To which they say that all those people have been caught up in the same crap that your Pittsburgh go host. Was caught up in it's it's looking at it without context. Deciding that the action is terrible and that it deserves the biggest suspension ever it's not taught her to what I was -- the -- suspension on another but that's what they're -- they wanted to join the action -- here. Right it was -- action actually was terror it was back. -- -- -- -- that I'm not gonna say terrible it was you know things -- I think it was back I think it in the context of the game and everything else that happened in knowing who Shawn Thornton is. It was bad but I'm only give him a little bit of the benefit of the doubt because of his reputation how we -- the game and I'm -- don't think it's as bad as it looked and I'm also shocked that he's appealing it. I'm not it's and it's too many games it's fifteen games take it you know it's Jim ward until it's essentially -- and ten more historic -- ten more games. Take the suspension. And come back play your game this is not how you place on Norton you're not this guy. And come back and helped you go to the as a head toward the playoffs. It was appealing to get -- less games than that to answer five more games and then go help his team sooner rather than later I don't think they're gonna -- at 6177797937. Go to Mike is in Maine -- -- Nor -- that not -- but I. I I think -- sixteen -- Much you know appropriate or not but when you -- -- five games. Or are obviously targeting our hands. In or that which stopped the whole thing is they're targeting. -- and you only -- secretly suspect that. Zero I zero none as part of never have been a determination yet. Look at CDC this this look at -- gonna talk about the bigger issue here OK what what what is the bigger issue here is it about -- Because it I think it's about one of these two things you tell me what you think it should be about is it about the look. Of what it looks like for the league when they're something that goes on the the little a little and -- But doesn't fit with the rest of sports in the world is it about that -- reputation. Or is this about state players safety and hits to the head while it isn't it -- about latter they should be about it shouldn't be about by players' safety let him. We thought we talked about this before. And and you know I'll go to another sport to come back to this one we've we've talked about after the patriots lost to Carolina who. And we were looking for pass interference at the end of the game. Well if you get down to this situation when you leave it up to the officials. Who knows what's gonna happen and for Shawn Thornton when you have a player like this that becomes a league issue. It's never about what should be about. -- -- about grandstanding. Now covering your ass you guys are are are thinking about they are going to huge coup. To further their agenda they're still not picky usually -- -- -- yeah tried but she talked you said. Hey is it about the context of hockey great respect for people who really wanna talk about sports people we're not covering Arabs these people law. Are there covering the wrong asks Michael that's my point to cover in the left cheek they should be worried about the right they're covering their asked for reputation you know what. Nobody's watching the NHL around America and you don't worry about your reputation because what I'm worried about you worried about Tony and Michael will -- going off on you want PT I know they should be worried about what's actually import and that's where I'm sorry I can't believe a word about -- and don't -- a -- I dare drag -- Toronto or Montreal additional lied about powdery GTE don't worry about CT -- -- who who else is diagnosed with -- just yesterday that now that Ryan Freel and right ex baseball -- Cincinnati red used to run into walls all the time diagnosed after after he had. Apparently committed suicide right a year or so ago. Another one CT east how many times it is are we gonna see more more evidence of this before that becomes the focus if the NHL wants to take him hunting out of the game think the focus on the head hunters go focus on James -- -- focus on the Mac books go focus on people that are hard hunting in the head. -- repeating basis. Our focus on show important because you don't like the way it looks for -- it was more than to wait let the say it it did not look good is the perfect storm did little and look worse that it didn't look good and it. Six when I admit to 7797937. Your calls next alcoholic WE.
