Welcome back to Gillette Stadium everybody my name is Mike petroleum joined as always my patriots expert columnist for WEEI dot com -- -- Chris that's the -- Cleveland Browns bottom of the AFC northern division. Against the nine and three New England Patriots who with a win in -- things break right not only could they clinch a playoff berth they could possibly when she AFC's. Depends on how things work out what could go wrong this weekend. If they had the teacher in my opinion Soledad teacher you've been refused column right now I think when you look at both sides of the ball and I think Cleveland as. At least have some decent elements there in -- -- better than you -- with when you look at guys -- Josh -- One of the best -- were you in the league but -- barring some sort of total breakdown across the board by New England whether it's on special teams off and he took whatever. I don't think that we have enough profits about that'll beat you -- -- defense capability to come in here and -- been doing it. Now you mentioned Josh Gordon he has an NFL records center. He has become the first NFL receiver in history race in history. To record over 200 yards receiving in back to back games. If something like 635. Yards and believe it is in his last three games that's never been done that's an NFL record. He is the kind of receiver that could give the patriots that's. Do you see them making any type of adjustment for the people to -- it may be going from a single safety I would have been using a lot to maybe militants and safety coverage. I think you're looking at a single season -- situation we have we have to leave. Really providing most of the work I'm not saying it's gonna be exclusively in covered -- I think when you look at the -- to work against some of the other longer morally receivers in the league this year. I think that's certainly America that you could feel pretty good about depending on to -- this situation. Your -- -- all over the court and you for being questioned -- the course this week but I had been people pretty good about where you're physically going into this one. What if -- begins and ends with Josh Gordon on the offensive side of the ball we don't know if we sit here on Thursday morning who's gonna play quarterback for. Living in a different possibilities. Who can get the ball to my I just imagine what Gordon's ability would be like if he had some stability at the quarterback position. But other than that think they're getting -- back then that tight and there's no running game. Beat him on the ball consistently and I just think that the formula for permanently if you look at me. If you ask me I think Jason Campbell gives them the best chance to compete in this game against the patriots on Sunday afternoon. Obviously there's Brandon -- and we're still waiting for his breakout year and he came in I went to college very late. Was that sort -- state and then you know me is that film debut but he still hasn't been the quarterback a lot of people thought there's Alex and the Detroit shock. Sort of trick shots yeah exactly and in this -- -- so I just it it you you see a situation like that if your patriots fan. You should feel thankful for what you have to get after him elements there on the opposite side of the ball that could make them competitive and we thought earlier in the year when. One bright board with the quarterback. -- looked like things were coming together very few of them on the offensive side of the ball -- goes down if -- the problem Campbell beaten. They're just going through quarterbacks in the record that there in you you contrast that what's going in -- New England. In particular -- performance of the last four or five weeks. It just breaks it's a real confident that it was. Now let's turn to the patriots side of the ball a lot of the talk this week when Tom Brady and and Bill Belichick perhaps about the possibility of clinching playoff berth. Was all about the Cleveland Browns nothing would. Expect nothing less from the patriots all business they have got to get off to better starts. No question about it it's it's like this season and it's what. Early on this year we were talking about how they couldn't score in the third quarter. Now other making all the adjustments Antonio Smith would say too many adjustments for his likely that after what happened with the Houston Texans last weekend but. Patriots need to get off. Good start this week offensively against the defense in the Cleveland Browns that is ranked fifth overall in the NFL some of the fact that people may overlook when they look at Joseph Haden in the secondary in this Cleveland beat them. You know what's really interesting though when you look at the split of -- Cleveland team they are very good when it comes to total yardage allowed but at the same time their nineteenth in the league. In terms of points given out not to -- that suggests they're not playing very good compliment the football their offensive not putting them in. Really good situation and they're turning the ball exactly we saw some of that last week with Houston Houston is a very similar team in that regard so. They're playing well defensively and their competitive defensively but they're just not getting a lot of help from. From the offensive side of the ball which includes a bad situation. I think this week it's going to be the -- kind of thing I think when you look at the performance of Brady when you look at the performance of Murkowski and look at the performance of Gaza read an element and Amendola. They're getting production out of all the there's dual position players that think that continues to. Another thing press this week is as Rob Gronkowski started to really hit his -- I do I I I agree I think -- you saw some of that. Will be before. Against Denver but we're seeing it more and more as the weeks continue. We're looking at a guy who's getting somewhere back to that. Close to the guy who was at the midway point last year before -- had -- -- so. You get Murkowski going. He demands attention to connect defender away so that opens things up -- -- like -- and -- -- don't particularly infants need drugs Ecstasy do you Wear them. There opportunities underneath more and more for those receivers. Suddenly you -- you've seen Berlin with a guy who would benefit them and I think so. But you couldn't see going forward impact he has not only that because passing game but you -- pass -- with. Road test at Miami and then at Baltimore's normally I would say this could be a trap game. But after what happened in Houston last weekend I don't see that as a possibility this would. -- you I agree I will say this though he. What's your point toward the need to get off to a better start because that's not sustainable down the road you can get away with it against -- -- You get away with it against the Houston. Might feel we get away with -- -- weekend in Cleveland. But that's not sustainable down the road and into the postseason you need to you will -- a good sixty minutes I don't think we've seen -- speaker's office. Play a full sixty minutes the -- the I think when we do I think it's going to be the president and watched I think you need to get it started this -- give -- for a. And we keep coming back to this by. It is not really the playoff picture in the AFC east that I think the patriots are really keeping their eye on. It's the playoff picture in the entire AFC there's -- Denver Broncos who had a huge win in Kansas City. Last weekend oh win that a lot of people didn't think they would get necessarily the way they played in New England the week before. Then there they are certainly the number one seed as we sit right now that the patriots are -- ahead of the Cincinnati Bengals and the Indianapolis Colts. If somehow the thing with the patriots were -- up the Bengals run the table Bengals get the number two seed and I'm sure everybody inside that locker rooms where that. Did the Bengals really we talked about -- what individuals are really wild card when you're talking about. BA FC lead right now we talked about that on several occasions right I think a lot of it goes to the lot of them put on the shoulders -- if you don't think that's insanity defense with built in player. Are some of the best in the week but is the quarterback rating it that next week for -- to -- patriots in this week. Your route political you know what they would have the tiebreaker if you're looking at two teams word you know we're -- -- -- number three spot. But the Bengals are one of those teams that really it's -- that resonate you know. The patriots got knocked the big knock off the patriots earlier in the season greatness that was and doing the things -- -- -- -- at that point but that was a very impressive went. That before very impressive defense a lot of hoops to open but it and you can watch their development -- -- I assume you feel the patriots get the job done so yet I I do I do -- this team needs right. He had probably. And I'm wondering what the very fourteen game I -- I I don't think it's the Cleveland. The firepower and other side of the ball that that you -- knowing that again. I'd like -- I I like that defense to the good young defense but again that he wouldn't be bad situation but their offense. I think New England. War the first time since I'd -- meet the Pittsburgh game it's gonna happen relatively easy to. All right Chris. The patriots this weekend with a win will have ten wins again something they have done every single season since 2002. It's NFL record that Bill Belichick has sent and I don't think anybody's gonna touch it will. Wait and see if the patriots can ring up win number ten this Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. He's Christopher price unlike the -- at Gillette Stadium will be UPI dot com.
