Happy thank god be joined by Albert rear of the match it was daily news Albert was out on the field was there for Randy moss they would training camp treating okay. Let's let's -- on his microphone again thank you very much try to go ahead. I know Stallone for some reason we going to turn the man up its stride again for a third time. But now. Yeah I mean yes and I -- yeah. Wallach likes to dominate the Shelby I think you can guess that lower bond not a series sort of dominating -- good to be back out there you know it's too easy to use -- Yeah so on the Randy -- funny I'd say yes that's very as good to be out here you know it's it's a new season and it's it's a lot more interesting last year I'll tell you that last year it was number 83 and that was it every single day. You've got legitimately 1213 14 big stories out there and you know it's fun to watch all these new guys it and -- And -- kind of you know on the ultimate team game. How all these pieces -- start it together here over the next few weeks -- Samuel Randy -- these of the sexy stories you mentioned or 12 -- 13 -- really -- it is fascinating what is the biggest one that people are not paying attention to coming I think that the biggest one a lot of people are. Probably missing right now. Would be the battle it tight and actually and I think it's gonna get on her -- just made -- day that he's been talking about the tight end since we started that yet in you know like that as is a really bad day that make David okay -- yet it will I think the big thing. And and shot may have alluded to a is that when you look at the way passing away at the passing game works at the tight ends literally -- open things up in the running game for Laurence Maroney. And they're the ones and to the safeties down on the field they're the ones who keep the care erodes. And the Bob Sanders out of the box. I actually think David Thomas is going to -- of -- pro bowl level play. Annual often that none out a laughing because he said those words about a half an hour ago he's so proud of himself I think he's better than I don't want to football expert and I and I you know what. You put Benjamin Watson David Thomas track yeah. I'm my money's on them one really my -- and I want attractive. On weight bench on the football field -- I'll -- to LT David Thomas every do weak and twice since but here's.
Please that was exactly wartime and I think to meet that Ben Watson -- almost the you look at -- you've added wide receivers Ben Watson and his particular skills that appetite imposition doesn't fit anymore as well as David Thomas -- Kyle Brady because we're -- number -- in the short yardage situations 32 to me is the most interesting question about what this team is now. With Laurence Maroney being what he has and that is where tidings like Thomas and maybe like Brady to meet come more into players.
Yeah you know as can be read some production he also talking about replacing Corey Dillon near vertical lines and you don't just replace that by being in Laurence Maroney in the line you can replace that. By taking the tight ends and flexing them out and moving them around doing things in the passing game to replace that production Corey Dillon had down -- so. I mean I think David -- is the guy's going to be a big factor in the red zone I think he's going to be a big factor in the middle of fields though if he's able to stay healthy if you watch -- last year and is not right now right you know he's got a broken foot and it's been 12 weeks so he should be out there soon I would expect that he's going to be that second preseason -- well you EU. Do you think that tied into going to be the difference but the major story today's Randy moss -- we just heard from Randy -- he's what he's doing his best Desantis -- my wing and go home he doesn't mind being at the coy but this guy does bring a lot to an offense that didn't have a guy like him last year absolutely and you know I. The biggest thing is that every defensive coordinator and only when they play against the patriots now. Passed to know where he would miss. And they're going to move him around they're going to plan in the slot that a planet the acts that are going to planet does the that are going to play him all over the field every single down. The defense is going to have to account for where he is that and that's going to open up so many things underneath. For guys like Wes Welker I think Wes -- he catches I think Wes -- can have 90 catches in this -- not only with -- on one side but was Stallworth is probably the fastest guy on the team on the other side you put those two guys in the outside. They're not going to be able to bring safeties they're not going to be able to -- Wes Welker I just think there's so many elements. Just away from catching the ball the guys who can do things the style of the -- do. You don't you're not going to see in the statistics all the time. You know make you appreciate more what this team accomplished in the passing game last year and I thought it was interesting. Four I -- that his himself for his team on the back for Bill Belichick just earlier last hour -- almost out of his way to point out. That the passing numbers war. At you know acceptable levels or even above in the NFL even with -- the last year -- it's almost that reflects our -- the other members meaning they -- that he doesn't think you know it's like you -- when you going to get your card drive the same place every -- takes liken it yet he was commanding he's defending the passing game earlier last year in. You know I I think that that can be misleading to the numbers were good but still got to remember. What the colts that was Sanders what the one at the jets to it would Kerry Rhodes when you bring in safeties down the box play the run. I mean it's gonna open things up in the passing game break is good enough quarterback that he does not immediately receivers. Now what you're doing. Is that running game and averaged three point 67 yards -- last year and opened up for them now because teams are going to be able to do what they did last year I will also -- this -- Bill Belichick was asked about all his running backs in and I believe is Mike reasonable the last in this about. Whether or not one running back is going to step ahead of the -- Corey -- obviously he's talking about -- Bill -- went out of his way to -- well we will just wait and -- you know all the running -- we -- they -- can contribute. But it's Laurence Maroney is obviously the starter and he carried the or any carry the load all the way through the season. His production -- suggest that he can as last year Minnesota he cared about point six times offense that things between the tackles. So I would say -- in -- Big Ten isn't -- yeah. Well but it's the most yes it is it absolutely it probably prepared him for the pounding and and I know earlier about the saint Louis back. He's an Ohio State -- played -- hears it was quite nice if Rivera point about the big Sammy is there Italy and here's the question running -- does that better prepare him for short yardage situations in the NFL war. Is very limited number of pounds you -- today well typically I think the other is that they knows accumulates in -- But also I think that what Big Ten guys generally run into in the pros is that there's a bigger adjustment in speed in the -- for guys come from the SEC yet. What you what what you'll see what Moroni is that he's fast enough to bridge that gap quickly and he's physical enough because he played -- conference. There -- in the and I mean make no mistake about it he of the red Jersey on com September 10 in the meadowlands this kid is getting the ball. And I think that you have to -- little concerned about whether he can hold up or not. And not instantly cause but based on effectiveness constantly -- last year and -- nagging little injuries. I think you take the pounding I think he's a 1400 yard back. But this -- a guy who does run up right. Opening himself up hits and he has a guy who when he gets over it was a silent he's going to cut that those 23 SGI's I think maybe one of the things go watch with Lawrence this year. Is whether he wars to manage himself -- that are way maybe not maybe try it you know play for the next -- say okay. If I don't get those three yards at least I didn't take that he's saying the plan going in here in -- and he he's gonna get X number of carries but he is going to be the goal line -- to. He's going to be the third short guy I think -- I'd I -- I I you know what they'll I think they'll take Melanie I think the take Melanie camp -- situation you want to avoid mean that we had a -- that I I nobody does great but that's what you take the most punishment is on third and one and in the -- situation to me Heath Evans that's guys. Heath Evans is a guy who has been who can do that and it's pretty good at an end I think it Heath Evans role on this team mean I think he's going to be the formation -- At the museum an eagle he's got a good nose tackle I think he can do it and that John is actually going to be really get -- preserved sports outlets flip it over to -- and it's obviously the defensive back to front and center because society's analyst here we are talking about what happens to this team -- singles sits out -- week ten and Ellis -- gets hurt like he did last year. This team this. Particular position on this team can be stretched very -- very quickly. Yes again that's I think that over the course the next two weeks -- like guys move and play different positions and Maryland. Whenever they again in the full -- needs to be pretty soon the pitchers past history suggests that they've done I mean they've gotten everyone except and Watson in the full and the reason why attendance was -- They were trying to give him a six year contract has its five year contract that that whole scenario as it was today. Well not that well there was 12 weeks I mean it but. Dale Watson about -- Watson is that the like that deal with question. Art is pretty much set in stone -- and Maryland got this five year deal whenever it happens. -- guy who's going to be place usually most guys were people who don't know -- around Meriweather I'm just going to -- Johnson in the five year ten million dollar range by the united starting to get it done an automatic slot like it is and some sports but it's starting to sort -- come -- one in two point nine believe parties sign in -- number 246 -- points when he 60s -- mean they're getting closer and closer adamant.
And do you see we're discussing so much. I don't think anyone really is in the thought they Samuel camp and says what he is that good he really shouldn't be taken his money but. Can you start to with the potential injury situation age of the secondary can you put yourself in that the -- Samuel camp. And make a case that maybe he is better off roll the dice here and play in the last six weeks of the pro rated salary in --
Well I mean I think that the benefit in that is first -- all. When you do that you're going to be put yourself in the position where there's less injured risk. And I think you heard coach Belichick talked about today where training camp. You get the point these guys -- ago when training camp there's been a push in the NFL to have last last pre season games they don't need for. These guys are in shape year round the -- go year round from what I understand -- Sammy hasn't just been lifting and running he's also been doing fields are so I think he'll be radio whenever he comes and I think injury protection is really the only reason at this point or trying to force trade if you think that's something. Could happen if he's hearing now well you know there's this team out here in the want to give up this to get you. If there's any -- of that and this team you know lever said team could be. Is want to give -- 20 million dollars up front he'd be silly show you know that that's the type of scenario -- I don't think it's going to happen I think he's showing up. I think it's win that's the question went out I would say he's going to probably tried try to be here in time see him play in the last. Two pre season games maybe the last one he's in ST I'm talking about another month or so. Yeah yeah I mean I think maybe like EF three weeks months some might yeah I mean but I think he'll be back in here I think that. He's the type of guy who wants to be the best at his position and I think he's done such a good job improving every year year to year. I think almost came -- game you some getting better as the season went on last year this -- just invested so much in his career. And in his improvement as a football player it's really hard for me to see him throwing -- Obviously you look at this team's defensive line one of the best if not the best in the National Football League. Helluva linebackers are a little old between Roosevelt Colvin I think is the youngest every day every game player 29 he's going to be 30 during the season. Is there a problem on his team that age in the line back in court is it worrisome. Yeah I mean it could be it could be. I think right now what they have is a situation that's great I mean if they can keep the top five guys healthy you know sale included and that's great situation. He gives you flexibility move guys around inside now and I think it also gives you depth you know I mean you get two guys were able and Thomas. Comply both positions at a high level so I think that gives you depth than that you don't need a similar player right behind the guy who start. Now the ages concern guys' bodies breakdown that's a very physical position and you you look at guys like Bruschi and for able who've played in this two gap defense 467 years now. They're somewhere it there involved and you know -- older deals thomas' and you know. Isn't exactly a rookie either so play him everywhere though and I needed him everywhere you play him everywhere. You know one injury could be problem to injuries that are.
I guess the but the key point we were argue about this earlier -- I think people are maybe too concerned about that I don't think 30. In the year 2007 is what it was ten years ago when he NFL but you said the key thing which is when you have 456 of these guys. That it's not just the fact that of one of them goes down as much as that match. That you have other guys to back up the fact that you don't need to be in every snap. -- in this line back situation you can you know -- management is almost going to be the issue with an old line -- court -- set up perfectly for.
Yeah and you and your set up to kind of rotate guys through and have and kind of carve out different roles for guys and at the same time right now training camp you work inning getting them right to play multiple spots. And and that inherently -- death you know I mean a lot of people look at well you have four starting linebackers you need for back -- The truth is is that with the versatility is some of these guys have they don't need for back -- they've got a couple guys can play both inside and out. And when they move one of those guys out there another guy can come in and they can kind of shuffle things around to make it all work. You know I think that that gives them tremendous depth now. I mean one guy goes down all of a sudden. There's less flexibility that kind of thing like is said to guys go down and you're in trouble Albert career let me ask you this and this is -- that topic and we had Artrell Hawkins who actually sat in -- and I --
And he of course and patriot player will say. You know it's pretty silly talking about the -- at this time of year because we're just concentrating on the practice that's no silly I was talking about anything else on he's very true but my question inequity stern voice to drug Mets entrust him with cancer he was very likely event itself. My question UA's there have been some people who rank Indianapolis number one because they want superbowl last year there have been some people who -- San Diego number one based on pure talent and people think in myself included they really -- beat the patriots last year that one play away from doing that and there are some people who take a look at see with the patriots have done it. And say well look at all they've done they were one play away from going to Super Bowl last year look at what they've done maybe they should be the favorites which of those three teams -- and there aren't any others in your estimation which of those three teams should be the favorite to go to the -- of the AFC colts the colts.
Bottom line I mean there is suitable champions I mean I. Like I'm not saying he should pick them -- and right now in Europe usually when you look at what they've done and and in particular what you when you look at what they've done against the patriots the last three times they've played. I mean they have absolute Peyton Manning is let the patriots defense up. Beat the colts defense played you know good not great against pitchers they've gotten the job done -- two of those three games more I mean you know to those three games. When the final two minutes with the outcome does so. The way I look at is I'd say the colts are number one in the -- at the chargers and yet the -- is right behind them I pitchers have the most physical town I think there's more than they're putting more town on the field. Than anyone I think the chargers are really close -- the colts are little ways off that. And in the one advantage that San Diego and Indianapolis bringing tables at those guys played. And I I think that that's something that is often overlooked in you know in in these types of power rankings all that stuff. Football's the ultimate team game and it has said earlier. When you watch the pacers -- as the Yale last year they had all these new guys that came in and do you know if it looked back and they answered my voice it well let's differently yeah what's it look bad. Will -- and Stallworth -- to sit and say well girl -- all but on at the same book by the same token they were pulling guys off the -- to be wide receivers last year at least they got out of these guys from the began training can no question about it that helps that helps that those guys have gone through the off season program helps those guys have gone through passing camps. All that stuff helps look at these guys are still them. These guys are still though it they're still going to be learning curve and you have to hope that they can kind of work all that stuff out over the course of training camp. I think there RT probably at the point now where they were in September last year so I think that there's at Vegas but. I mean you can't replace I mean you know you've heard Mike for -- and tapers to talk about. How they've barely -- to give each other what Tom Brady enterprise they give each other girls look and they know what the other guys thinking. That that don't exist with a lot of the guys in the patriots it just can't that's has built over time as thick with a lot of players in the -- in the chargers. That element that elements there that helmets there that all I'll say this John I think the the regular season is vitally important you don't want to have to go to San Diego you don't want to -- I'm going to cause data -- the Wheldon because 12 and four lane too as a while 12.
And swore at me (%expletive) one of these team one of these three -- team for -- going to have to do with the patriots task was last two which is -- to -- In these other places somebody's going to have to go to both of these cities and win and that's their -- of the Super Bowl if you don't have your continuity and you don't have this thing together by September. You don't have that luxury like you do in Indiana State to lose a couple of games in the 11 -- five -- B 12 and four and that is why that's the single biggest issue training camp to make.
It is 22 things their -- I mean if you look at it if the patriots beat the colts last year in the regular season look at. That game would have been here you know the temperature was in Foxboro Massachusetts on January -- for this idea was 24 degrees but do you think the game might have been a little different. There's that night and I think also you know in the NFL everything's -- everything you know everything changes from year to year. And I don't think a lot of people expect the charge to be quite as good as they were last year when you know and I think over the course the year. I mean they were by far the most I don't think it was that close at the end the do you look at a team like that. Look at the ravens look at the dangles look at look at these teams in the AFC the Broncos. I think that there's you're going to see at least one team can come up in surprise yet. The didn't expect to be the -- expect to be good but not Clinton makes you realize has there been a bigger September football game. And patriots have played in and you know and then -- to complain San Diego where our last question in the division the jets were the jets were better this year is there any other team in the division they can qualify for the playoffs or even counts the patriots. I think Buffalo's doing things the right way I think there a year away that the -- and I that's that's. Just song that that's and now so the jets there that's the jets are there and I think Miami can surprise some people just as the -- quarterback I I honestly think Trent green is a huge upgrade from what they've -- everything they've had since the -- And it they've got some weapons offensively they've got some good players defensively and I think cam Cameron -- an offensive coach now and make all of those pieces fit again. And they got Ted Ginn junior of the good lord Ohio State thing continues on these Albert -- the metro west daily news John Wallach junger Indian
