Oct 28, 2013|

Mut and Merloni break down the most controversial call of the postseason which may have cost the Red Sox a chance to win Game 3 of the World Series. Mut and Lou agree that it was the right call but was it the type of call that should be made to end a game.

When when the play developed after. It's all the markets to -- third base. After the ball head on straight through and Allen had slit in the third and stood up. To attempt to go to home plate. -- was off right there and when you tried to. Advance the home plate. The -- -- -- and he tripped over. -- right there and immediately. And institutionally I called obstruction. Jim Joyce talking about the call her around the world on Saturday but -- -- live from Saint Louis Sports Radio WEEI your phone calls all day. A slot to Victor but I I do wanna address Saturday and accidentally a lot of calls on the obstruction colts opened the way that game went down. You -- you were on the radio talk about it as it happened there at the end of the game if that was the right call for Joyce the company. Yeah once and I understand that nobody wants it to be the right call. It because it lost the game and it's unbelievably lost the call -- the game World Series game on their plate. And you just don't wanna believe it. But at some point -- the you know the emotion Europe's at a body got to sit back and just say the bottom line was impeded. Allen Craig of advancing to the next base. And I thought they all explain to -- Jim Joyce had a hand up right away called that right away I was confused the commute is calling safe. And and at the wing right after the game was Dustin keys that he dug his witnessed the worst call me and hit it in baseball history at all because -- golf. But so -- you confused. But when you see them watch the ball the left field complete you know -- the way. And she Craig. Stumble. You would have been adjusting if if that will little books like the ground as he never came up. Any district old room you know but then as they -- it has really have to be going -- and it had not necessary right now the -- came out. You know only he knows that there was reaction why -- his legs trying to -- I've been there before second base. Guy slides and ball how that must endorse second bay got its third -- bars and a senator and try to either economic think you have the ball and glove. Ortiz lined a ground eagle football and you're on -- sort of stay on him a little bit you know without medical board try to not let him jump up. Yeah and that's an as far as that her spec also explained of the base runners that publishes the baseline. So the fact that he was in play wasn't like you know on the -- was not third base just tried to establish the base now -- and a whole plate. Any tripped and it caused him to be thrown out by what a couple of steps are step whatever was sure he doesn't trip. He's safe scores easily it's as bad as he runs comics and it's safe to take over when I try to think and I think -- -- the right. Call as well. -- you have to make that call that spot because appear Red Sox and I try to flip that around your Red Sox fan -- happens to. David Ortiz you wanted to be awarded home plate and you're yelling the obstruction call to be factored in he can't just wouldn't say because. The called and go your way you'll like the call that happened the Red Sox you would want tackle what's lost and it is a eighth plus defensively Pedroia he how the seat from Daniel -- The throw that he made to get it colossal -- tag. On that play. But -- Al idle -- lot about Saturday but it people are gonna call it what your take specifically in the -- -- all the plays like that at secondary players even right now up yes that is still upset that still argued the call he was not my it's. You know -- the day before the game after the game none of them believe that -- golf's greatest double. Played a World Series ever turn -- will never be looked at that way but the rule is ready for example in the rule. Itself. I'd love when you read the rule. At the end of it says for example in the written -- -- for example yeah if it infielder dives at a ground ball and the ball passes of it continues to lie in the ground. It delays the provost of the runner he is very likely is obstructed the runner meet. In the rule book. It was a sick for example oh I don't know let's disable bit of Brooks for examples at third right having yet it's right there. So whether you agree or not to let the change -- to have to think more of intent and good luck with that trying to figure out if it will be middle -- mind whether he raises -- to Angelina. 61777979837. The full of a lot of -- may historical weekend. A baseball here at Saint Louis by the way game five tonight or not we're not done we are not done that we're here. Third tomorrow always -- data as we get all your phone calls before -- Paula. Absolutely -- Bob dryers are now I mean -- But I always go up in the areas grow up in the air a little bit. Patsy did he total and so -- -- my brother's games overall outside the suburbs in our immediate decision enjoys the bottom. Take -- called that was that -- -- -- absolute direct talks could be the lowest. Bill doesn't do any source agree or timers are sort of like. Am I a check yet rest well. -- And victory don't do not play tonight. So little guards brought so little guards like -- although -- a lot like all the SM and Louis look at it look at it -- this strike jury. You know are getting -- -- your twentieth time. They I have to absorb arrest or your partner get what -- -- products are obviously all lost this game. Yeah absolutely Dole's pollster and the broke the old line. I want to abortion in most brought up bill -- well that's a rookie wall sorry I'm so I look much you -- production. He's three classes and people are great words last second Malik and Malik on three for his last seven with a walk about cut you always 31 -- with a walk in games three games are worth all its. And I'm not I'm not impressed by overly impressed at all that the collapse last night like ball got -- sorry I played meadowbrook perhaps that's the test site. Maybe your apartment you want security you know. And get -- you know get back do not that easy to predict he you know that you characters in there. Or brought out all -- artist is one of the few guys in this line at that actually confidence up at the plate he was two for. Two before the other night with a triple RBI single off Rosenthal remember that when tied for for the last night. One for three with a walk then struck I was last at bat of the I've played on the line that he didn't make it accurate throw nepalese got to come off the base and recognize that. And it's just an infield single no big deal. He sit the next six spot at the luckiest the last hope. There are two guys I trust offensively right now the plea. Ortiz and Bogota with you I'm not sitting -- all that play many. Watching it real time the ground he covered diving to his right to make it. And perilous talked about this last nice it is tapping him before you get a better grip on the ball you basic throw cutter. You withdraw a putter cross and probably should take it is not as it was got your lead erotic he could -- arrived in my got. Now -- -- -- and there that second or fifth beef sold. You can sit at a Bogart's tonight no way delegates should it is all related woman Brooks is out of -- I did like to outline a pretty good eyes -- useful for 26 Georgia New Hampshire George drop -- loop. They got they don't -- before my comment -- politicking how old are you kidding me. Shy about it thank god he's not taken the lineup tonight but who depend. Buyer but -- you know. That back call at third. Should -- at their -- it I mean probably not that the night before. What the the right call you unfortunately. You know let. Really look at the play what really unfortunate about it. Is way and Craig you stop at third you look back towards the ball you slice deep first and pops up. Within -- the outfield. So it left leg comes toward second and I know people that he moved a little too far toward second. Each and bought back the third I don't think so you -- He treatment -- -- right there he's fine but the unfortunate part -- while looking back he starts running forward. And that -- yet when he looks forward. He'd already I'll pop a middle look at the put his hand down you don't even get a leg up in the area hit by you know and it looks like the -- on athletic thing because he wasn't encouraging. -- at all sport. You know and that's important at the right call but you know it's too -- you're looking backward restart run ports and. I tell it is interesting because. You know Beltran is obviously out there but we're talking with a great playing game one the great catch he made that a lot of that game. That game winning play in game three. Mike Allen Craig out of the game. You know -- used to mean he is just a pinch hitter that. He's hurt you see it last night walk up to -- plea he limped to the way he hits a ball off the wall right field and doesn't come close to hit the double he can't run. So a play that won game three. You know it's turned him into a pinch -- when they return to Fenway this thing goes seven games six games seven. I don't think he can DH. He's just the pinch hitter. Is he can't movies if he's that guy that you need it. You bring them off the bench that's he crushed that ball off the base the wall right field that you look up and he barely around for a job he knows he can't run right now what you said that might affect him. The -- this series go to Florida this morning Alec is they're -- Gallup. Well hey guys you know my life I've I'm room wanna be positive I'm ecstatic about last night's win -- Saturday night you know the plate the plate the plate. That was the play. I -- not seen a game and it's like that since I think in part eruptions where he little. In Israel ER I mean you don't think that I -- -- should be repeated community and National League ballpark they have something called into leaked like. Now that's really what's embarrassing I mean it was it was scary the move -- that this named not one not two not three not -- off. I mean even admitted to Portland thing. But I just -- very frightening America -- scary situation I can't wait for him to get out of Saint Louis tonight because. -- no faith in the manager right now I mean. That and you would know not to July I don't know what happened don't just sit -- bench coach to put out the other night. Yeah those embarrassing I think Saturday he admitted afterwards. -- it sped up -- of you know it's it's it's this is his first World Series as a manager but as we've seen all post season long. It's a it's a learning experience its experience for John Ferrell -- On some things in the in the Tampa series and made the adjustment change it up. He talked earlier but -- Leo we we don't like to potentially walk guys and Saturday intentional walk to local. You know we don't like the Bart. And then the other night game machine victory -- tried to sacrifice in the third inning it's Stephen Drew try to sacrifice that's in that later in the game the whole thing is an adjustment. Get caught he didn't double switch for the obvious double switch insulting game three mixed strikeout at the Bogut tied the game work -- comes in. And that's obvious you know that that's. Don't -- one it'd be to sit up here you know we're not down there where it's the game sped up NAFTA -- talk about it. The -- -- comes in Ross goes into the game he's now in second in the order double switch assault the and and zero K and now you go -- up next inning and we're talking about wise in Napoli pinch hitting an issue you come that. Thrown right to -- salt all the ball third base. Russia have been in the game would've thrown it will be made accurate throw a -- at all we don't know. But he learned last night. I don't about Lackey in double switched. In those opportunities and have Napoli then hit third so eleven learn you sit -- to a two and learn from the mistakes you don't let happen again. Through a two game five tonight it's made another one of these here at Saint Louis Lester at Wainwright 61777979837. That's the phone every can -- us. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- We get right back your calls talking about historical week at a baseball with you right here 93 point seven WE yeah.
