NFL Sunday: President Obama Weighs in on the "Redskins" Name

Dale brings up the topic of the President stating he thinks a name change should be in the works for Washington. The guys agree but aren't sure the President should get involved. They also talk about "Hitner".

Out on Sunday morning. The reason I I said earlier I was gonna tell you how the NFL. And and the United States government intersect. For brief moment here this morning in two ways the first. Our president Barack Obama. In an interview with the Associated Press today. Said that he would quote think about changing the Washington Redskins name if he owned the football team. As he decided he would become involved in the controversy by the way they discussed. The Redskins name on Meet the Press this morning as well. So there is all this talk about whether or not but there's nothing else going on television nothing else going on actually. The president said he said team names such as the redskins' offense a sizable group of people. He said while fans get attached to the names missed out to may not be good enough reason to keep them in place now. I actually truthfully mean this. I agree with him I I think they should consider changing the name but that's I'm I'm not gonna -- that I was kind of being half facetious here's the other way. That politics in the NFL collide here this morning. San Francisco 49ers safety Donte Whitner. Said he planned to change his name was gonna drop the W from the beginning of his name legally now in the same way Chad Ochocinco changed its name. Donte Whitner wants to change his name to Dante. Whitner. He wants to he wants to put battle line of hash tag legal hit her tee shirts. But there's a problem. Because of the government should shot to come they couldn't get to its paperwork. How happy I can't legally change his name on me because of the of the shut down because among of the things that they can't get to from the government perspective his name changes. So -- is gonna have to hold off on his teacher is and to us that's a beautiful Hamels it was it's -- Official legally you can do it right there won't they won't change it on the back to Lester got the peace and you have to have piece of paper you also have to and read something this week he has to buy a ball fueled shirts. These financially obligated to divide those up and take those off the market while weight -- that's anybody can change their name I don't see where the NFL would -- have a legal leg to stand on. The National Football League in the American government seem to have -- a high -- again it the whole thing about the Redskins name is a another topic for another day. If you happen to think that there's have reasonable argument to be made that they should change the name of the football team but that's just. -- Snyder museum option out of women who should be the president is maybe change that the -- as an American citizen he has every red clay and on who should be -- that the next browser senator -- I just -- I like the -- whether or not that decide whether as -- extraordinarily well you're also -- I don't -- argument is well yeah I mean you're also work. With one of at least as far as East Coast has concerned me into one of the most dysfunctional franchises in the NFL so -- that's all playing out against that backdrop and you're you're you're you're dealing with the donor who. Is Ab swing intractable when it comes to a potential name change so you're gonna have to you know it through -- so when you want the team to change its name you're gonna have to. Fun though we do it. So anyway those -- the and that the two political let items that will run for the entire day I do get a kick out of the Donte -- one. Because it's just as a fact there's a lot of things you know that are are affected by the government. Shut down one of which his name changes the pitching doesn't -- they don't get to runs -- that paperwork by anybody so he's gonna have a hold off on the hash tag legalized. It there tee shirts that he wants a market. Which I'm just -- lot of limb and suggest that he's probably gonna end up with a garage full of those anyway right. We're going to be here until about 1230 or so and that means a little bit later on in this process where we're gonna go through what we think is gonna happen and what we think will be the outcome of today's game.
