Our number two Chris aligning with sports Sunday Sports Radio WEEI 6177797937. Then not all Red Sox some pretty much all Jon Lester threw the first hour lie detectors weighing in on the AT&T tax line on that will get to that just a moment. Out final round of the masters is going on a maturity people. Into getting into what is much science tiger. And without Phil as well he Mickelson showed up I think late Thursday night she flew in and Friday after energy is flied out. With Phil Mickelson. I he had a tough weekend are tough early going Richardson first round in a local guy Keegan Bradley struggled missed But there are some big games of the top the leaderboard some exciting. I young names of the Jordan's BT's twenty years old he's cash to win the masters I he'd be the youngest winner since 1979. LEB younger. Then the tiger was the first time you want it. And one of the things that really stood out to me is speaking with some people were down there this week to cover the toward talks and these young guys and it get back to tiger. The complete and water. Lack of off. Around around Tiger Woods to these guys are too young you think about twenty years old 21 years old with somebody like camera some would like walker. In somebody like Blix the Swedish guys and second right now and he's. He's like 28. You know some of these guys too young to really remember or at least have played with tiger against tiger. When he was hitting level like we never seen before the PGA tour earlier received since Jack. And they look at him now a Zagat shoot 77 on the weekends. Is that cats really contention anymore where is I mean Aaron I'm not old and your and all of you remember when. Final round tigers in the lead it was done forget about it I mean one year in the PGA YE Yang those big shots out late and ended up beating and yet that epic battle with Bob May. I nearly beat him in the PGA but it would for the most part just wasn't close he would get a lead and he was one of the best closers in the we'd seen in the sport. But it's just it's different now that's a different vibe. Around Tiger Woods and it's gone from seemingly a foregone conclusion that he would get to nineteen majors is seemingly foregone conclusion that he won't eat next year. Does play majors this year. Is give forty years old Jack won three. After he needs five Jack won three after forty to two of those were when he was forty and the masters in 986. Was kind of an out Larry's 46 years old. Tiger would be a hall of fame career from here on out five major championship all career to get in nineteen. I think it's interesting not only his fall from grace just as a player. In terms of winning majors the was in my opinion at least the best player on were last year he had five or six wins a torch to win major. But the bigger thing to me is just how some of these younger players perceive him do tiger as a contention it used to be regarded. The average stroke. The average round rather up a stroke in. In in the in the final round on Sundays when tiger was in contention real just kind of melted aged just. Folded around with a few exceptions mentioned Bob revealed in Nickels and it's good battles but. For the most part it was just tiger's world everybody else's playing for second they were on him Ernie Els just not Now is young guys just young enough to cocky enough and don't really remember that at least they didn't play through it. And they're saying how statute 75 on the weekends with what's not ID in the turn now but. I should be upon Sunday Bubba Watson very very likable guy. And I Jordan who were finding out a lot about trying to become the youngest masters winner a long time quick birds update we'll get back to the calls against 617779. 7937. Cordially NC DM IA's doing great to get the good news on him that was definitely a concern that you know DM IAA was. Out I got hit looked like in the that it from I thought it was illegal but not dirty if that makes sense I don't think there was intent to injure there. It was just one of those times you're trying to make a hockey play get the principal point contact up higher and you won it. So I thought it was an illegal hit not a dirty hit but by a help not the that you concussion translated to on the ice Thursday that part we don't know just yet. But Patrice Bergeron it sound like is fine I he missed the third period yesterday that would would have been a huge concern. I outside to go. There's not too many guys you point to and say this more important to the bees and Bergeron two way player in hockey this year. Obvious he's good according to coach Julianne and Chris Kelly looks like still day to day with that back injury so some. Relatively speaking. Minor bumps and Bruce is going into the Stanley Cup Playoffs but you know these guys especially Alec Bergeron if he could be on the ice on Thursday against the red he's going to be there. I HTT tech slide is 37937. It's like grab a few of these real quick a one Dexter says eight times over David Price let Lester walked. While you make Casey price a better pitcher at this stage of his career early younger I can cost more money. And now your bidding against everybody else you've got the cost control guy. Housing cost control we get the guided the under your control rather. The of the exclusive negotiating window with wants to stay here to guide it. As more in depth track record in the post season to sign him. And that point it's not a knock on price and gives great pitcher. But if you're looking at what you can do it even easier than that that will save you some money relative to what price can get on the open market signed last. I know detector can you imagine having Stanton in Boston did it forty plus homers easy architecture from western mass. Two words about prospects Daniel yep they can go hard the other way. I another one here says agree with you order percent top of the rotation guys talk about Lester innings a year post seasons died. Given the cash over five years five for one and should get it done. And out finally is Lester stats are comparable to average career he walked away from 244 million Lester has been better than Homer Bailey and look at the contract. That he just signed a few textures telling me the gets four clocked at. Well evening parade for a UConn for the championships I assume the men and women together out both of them winning the national title. Yes as tougher as Turkey's but happy for Kevin Ollie who now is the next. Hot coaching named to go from college to the end beauty after eight seasons. But undefeated in the NCAA tournament ally guys can say that are at six or 77797937. is in New Jersey he's up next When then. Just try to not cute bit Ali thank you and I can't believe that a low ball. Jon Lester like they don't agree that you like a side impact by one and whatever argument sake. We have been out of my. But you see a lot of contracts for your team that have gone got into the contract stratosphere and some of them have really worked out so well. But for a number like dapper Lester what he's so willing to stay. I agree I was surprised. When I saw what the number was at the end of spring training where the Red Sox know Lester broke off toxin seems like a a low ball contract terms of dollars in a low ball contract thirty years. definitely. god I G I mean lucky probably let out a little bit like that way radio reluctant I had. Yeah I mean yeah I'm with you thanks to the fall being a former yankees fans perspective. They're never shy about spending dollars. That Lester contract is makes sense and I've said this a few times. Because just getting back to this point I do think my gut still tells me they get a Don. Gut feeling they still get this contract done because I hate candidate it player just wants too much just wants to be a Boston too much. You back going to be here at the expense of taking deal it's foolish and a four year seventy to eighty million dollar contract before which. At ball way below market terms years below market terms the average annual There's no upside here it sounded like a Red Sox blown away with a give you four years but here's point six million a year. Which is probably more than you gonna get I guarantee each and every year on the open market that it could at least. I still think Lester would walk away from crystal he'd say no. But I could look at that is saying the Red Sox in good faith effort to try to. Do with last year what they've done with other guys which is over pay an average annual dollars but try to take that discounted terms of the number years seventy. I can't say that. I can't see it as they came under years came under dollars 6177797937. Bill isn't busted up next they've built. They would subject. who visual. You know what about. You guys keep in the world. Could together okay. guys they look at the guys renewed deal if everybody involved. Make him have the option to. Who boarded deals rivals ordered to the guys will. Make it work. So real simple. So three years of his make sure Israelis and three years seventy million. And then assuming he stays healthy another two years at how much. Ordered me at all. That would come out to volley at 5110. About then you know what would actions. YouTube. 120. It was cute guys so. Yeah It it it any guaranteed dollars sport. That that's just not gonna work for the players work for last. Well hope what works right now what made two big guy a two year deal seven million. With a guarantee. Appeared to remain nimble. The two more years of targeted what are enviable. Well let's get. That that that the five year 120 million dollar contract. Where. OK I guess that that's reasonable but I mean you if you're guaranteeing the money that it's not three years in the two years to five years. And yet we could what three years didn't work out three years it will be created numerous believe that you develop very animated. You know. Yeah I mean I like well. I guess I can't get what you in there you know again trial period so to speak at three year seventy million dollar. You know test blown the CP states LP and see if he still producing. The news saying guaranteed fifty million after that which is five for once money. Why would John again you'd think about it okay hometown discount know we heard the operator gets excited about it. to get past the idea of a hometown discount meeting complete insanity. Seventy million dollars even over a three years average dollars a lot of money. But it still. 50% of what can get out in the open market. You know why would I take seventy million guaranteed even for three years when I could just double that six years guaranteed at 140 million. You know six I can get that extra seventy million dollars over three more seasons just to go out in the open market. That would be a great team friendly kind of idea but Lester were being eyed Joseph and Wakefield once the way HL. What they've done so much for the in the you know 78 years. That burning up I don't know are already up at. I agree with UN and the injury concern for me is that they're now we are talking about Clay Buchholz we'd be having added I merely different conversation. But with Lester even a year it was bad in 2012. Still pitch to plus innings. Yeah I mean you don't get a picture wondering about that party and you don't hate you guys brought there get a going to be offered. And I are I think I really like the attitude that you just want the behavior I don't understand why the Internet situation black. We're not talking about giving the guy a 140. I'm not all that with the amount of money more book like the object audit. Well he had I think the Red Sox kind of Hewitt in the regard as well that's why I wasn't completely floored when he said OK if we here opera was the most that they had. I'll put out there by the time they broke off negotiations. But I'd be and neighbor of 400. Yell now and a and a big. Average annual value a Ford seventy for is an opera that you know the players get a that's an opera that it's designed to be turned out. Yeah independent though they looked like but based on the yacht I don't know it. All the the PR stunt getting negative PR because I think I had tickets ridiculous they have any Lester did lie to me if he blocks away at the end of the day. And and the Red Sox look back and in the end flick back and say. And they could of they could negotiate they could out of spring training but the only opera percent beat the teams the only one's gonna look bad that's an. Aerial my opinion darker integrated you know integrated I'm sorry you know it made it. It's the same age and it did Dustin Pedroia has I can't think of his name off my head to similar Pedroia as we negotiated down discounts the This situation it is thought here we cannot I mean update completely done park are now completely. It sounds like till the end of the season got to do have an exclusive negotiating window. Went thanks for the college and they've exclusive negotiating window with Lester. After the season is over and that it's free agency. But you know in my mind even if the Red Sox were come back with a big number in the fall. But it even gets to. Reagents even gets to the point were other teams are our ticketing contracts are offers a Lester you're probably spending more than what you have spent. It just get the deal done now. You just avoid any possibility any any chance did you rate in the another team another suitor and unlike David Ortiz we can't you know we had a debate about Ortiz is going to be even a market that is. And I thought maybe lot of people but absolutely now. That's fine with Lester there's no debate right. I mean when I can debate the fact that it thirty year old going on 31 year old lefty it's starting pitcher with a great post season track records that market. We know that that's the case there's going to be money thrown at this. So you have the opportunity. To not only negotiate exclusively with him up or you even touch or even Free agency. It to get an offer on the table to sign this guy if they're not able losing the player beat. I signing into a deal that maybe goes outside their comfort zone because now they worry about free agency not to worry about other offers them. You could have made a better fate in my mind decide than these reported figures in at these numbers are right you know he's not taking. It's an it's designed to be refused to keep brought out their deceit it's a hit proper. I don't think organ necessarily buy that I think that this mark baseball banner that. That they and as long as you're in line with keeping Lester some cables don't want that at any high price and that's fine that's your opinion I disagree by. It any band that wants Jon Lester back is valued at his team. It and understand just what the market is looking for the seventy's at It's an insult. Text messages committed 37937. AT&T like. Texas is Red Sox have too many pitches in the system they had the upper hand. Now that it's does its thing is too many pitchers in this is have a lot of starting pitching depth they have a lot of potential. As allowed by hope and is better than Jon Lester obese Kerr shot why not. But you know what you have in Jon Lester. You don't know what you have yet Henry and that goes to my point of if you're gonna have some of these cost control pre arbitration arbitration guys up. Lester got the money to do. He could have a a lot of money coming off the books over the next read of where years. Yet a pitcher John Lackey threw for 500000 dollars on next season. In NA and it not a salary cap sport but it sport I care about a 189 million dollar luxury tax threshold for the at least they're from last. I that to take three years the market's already at five to six. years as Lester won't get 140 on the open market I disagree I think he will. I the Texas is give Lester one of these two deals. Or for a hundred or seven and 12611. if the offer candidate for for a hundred then I would say you know the Sox made an effort. They made shots try to sign him and take battled down discounted terms of the year when it for par seventy it. and a few text is going back to a couple calls as a wide world Lester take three year deal and a trial period. We can get five years guaranteed and I completely agree this is an interesting text here get this one before the break. I you know I'm not entirely sure why everyone has the phrase 110 for five I should get it done because he had no idea. What will get it done in theory. Yet that would be a hometown discount. 111 for five years an option six and eight I have no way of knowing. Whether that would get it done so he's looking at 5110. I just keep coming back that number because I look at. What the market would probably and keep going back to guys like Cole Hamels you know reasonable comparable to last year's regular season numbers I see six. In 144. EC 23 and change per year so take roughly that average annual value. 43 in his case it's going to take a year back it five years old hometown discount. But he's not leaving and and the billions of dollars That's why I come back to that number I'll get it done I have no idea what I'd be willing to go to say. 150 over 520 million a year probably. Start pushing diablo or we'll talk. You see what the number but a number I have in mind. And a lot of people have in mind they think 22 million a year twenty to 22 million a year years and college day. Five years a 10210 million dollars 6177797937. The point though I had no idea we don't know. What gets I can tell you this though. Ward seven he doesn't get it on told you that before knowing. That that was the for the Jon Lester turned out we get back to your calls coming up next we'll talk war. A Red Sox get to the Bruins as well and what touch and the Celtics before the end of the show as well get to 4 o'clock Chris Blondie with Sports Radio. WE yeah.

  3. Chris Villani on the Lester Contract Situation

    Sun, 13 Apr 2014

Villani doesn't understand the Red Sox' approach to the negotiations with Jon Lester for an extension. Sure, you have to start somewhere, but their offer was so off base, it was almost insulting. He wonders if the Red Sox truly want Lester in the future and if they don't, WHY!?!

Transcript - will not be 100% accurate

Sent by -- through your first two down Red Sox up 51 in the good. Played a comeback from. Then retired the side. Presume you could -- a 116. Pitches on the day getting huge ovation. Dave O'Brien on the call Dave O'Brien -- the call again -- jokers think -- Red Sox and the Yankees. 1 of twelve games left to play not embedded in this folks talking baseball in Boston in September. What people feel like I don't know what that means for Robin actively hate each other -- 617779793. -- before we go right back to the calls -- -- you invited me over to plant the bombs. You know I knew you had your family your own commitment. So we weren't we were talking about this in the breaks let's bring it back on the I was looking for. Defining moments in the season or turning points clearly an old war on that Saturday on fox when he arrived. Got his face punched in by Jason Varitek glove that was a turning point clearly. When the Red Sox traded Nomar that was a turning point -- -- seven under baseball after that. This year they've been remarkably consist. I asked to -- it was a turning point in the treatment your manners you know. Yeah Jason -- came on board member triple that first game -- annual like he's not many but be better than many spin -- into an event in the guy's gonna sit out one nothing game against the Yankees on a press conference in the middle club right thumb and you brought up financially wanna let you start -- as far as a turning point in the season you said the first game of the season why. First game of the year. And the reason I have is this is a little bit different turning point but you look at that game if you go back and look at everything about that game. It was -- unfolded exactly like they had planned this team. Would play. The rest of the year -- let's refresh people's memories Jackie Bradley was in the outfield yet Jackie Bradley had the big game so that's one thing that worked out for them. But I'll go to backed everyone remembers that game one of the things he remembers the dome sliding home and then. Firing opt in and say you say. Right remember that. Do you view is viewed very emotional gets up but he pops affairs to be safe -- -- on the game's story yes and here's a quote from Jonny Gomes after that game. I think how you saw it is how we can win a lot of ball games this year it was kind of bear all the air early. How prophetic is that statement after one game of the -- it's an -- wise and you go back to that and it Jonny Gomes -- talk to him in the past about this about. When he got up from that slot looking at the Yankees guys and stay -- what's going on here and there's that intensity is everyone's in the game is how the bullpen unfolded which was supposed to be the way the perfect way that. It was supposed to be back that game -- -- I think pitch in the sixth inning I Lester pitched five innings he struck out seven by the way this in his quote assume these quotes after the game. It's big talking about the wind Lester said it's obviously a lot nicer than the past couple of years. To be on top one game ten nothing instead of going through a whole trip without a win again. Stay the ear Koji looking at the box score right here the pitching for the Red Sox that day it was Lester went five. Koji came in and got a hold pitched one scoreless innings and five pitches. That's that's what I've there's another example what was gonna happen Andrew Miller came in after that Andrew Bailey came in after that you need to to download -- -- -- -- -- up right there is that how that unfolds in regards the bullpen. It was. You got into Miller come -- for the match up. And then you'd need a big out. In the seventh inning. And so the guy everyone thought was gonna pitching the eighth Andrew Bailey comes in I believe strikes out can know with guys on base gets that big out this hour comes and locks down the eighth and then you have I haven and at the end right so. This whole match ups that they played so many times over the course of the year that unfold they way they thought they would. Just well there was so many things about that game that set the tone and I are not -- I'm not idealistic I'm not thinking they beat won that game in that. That led to all these wins. All I'm saying today. Viewers set a tone you do in the first game but yet you also asked what was the other jumping off point I think the West Coast well. I think you and I end up agreeing on this because it you know whether this dated or not it's not again it's not Iraq and -- But the 98. That Ryan Dempster hit Alex Rodriguez the Red Sox that night lost that game unlike the game -- Varitek -- Billy Miller came back he made a good point they won that game. And that was a jumping on point that ignited that team so while I'm not gonna argue here robbed -- demonstrating Iran ignited that team. -- they lost that game when you look at it. That team. Was the end of a ten game stretch where they lost three series in a row they lost three of four in Kansas City they lost two of three in Toronto. And that was the rubber match against the Yankees they now lost to a three against the Yankees they lost seven. Out of ten games since that game. They've gone eighteen and six. On that West Coast trip they took two out of three and -- -- we don't know what they -- to the dodged eighteen and six. Twelve games over 524. Game stretch. Since the night that Ryan Dempster hit Alex Rodriguez to me that's that's a jumping off what do we wanna call. Okay -- let me take it to the next game because I think that -- thing had nothing new Buick they lost the game. I think what you do is go to San Francisco and all the sudden Jon Lester pitched a great game. Right he yelled -- -- Lincecum that seven nothing right so that's what sets you on your way Jon Lester -- you that Kansas City series yes Jon Lester entire second half. What's the one game the heating it to. That Kansas City here's what else -- the governing its Arizona. Our guitars again I designers it's okay gets candidacy right and but. Okay Jon Lester -- -- great against him Cisco they come back the next night upright and bill -- walks in the Beirut that was a one run game in the -- but we're talking at the end of that sixteen out in nineteen games on the road stretch you're talking about going in the West Coast you're talking about playing. Two teams were perceived to be tough -- certainly the Dodgers work and you handled them. So all of that. That to me is what set them I think if I'm not wrong right I think they won every series since then we looked it took two out of three at San Francisco. They took two out of three against the Dodgers. They choke two out of three against the Orioles they swept the White Sox he took two out of three against the tigers they swept the -- I took three out of four New York. They took. Two out of three in Tampa and now they've taken two out of three against the they haven't lost a series deaths. Let's go to the phones let's go to Stephen Rhode Island hi Steve. Yes I did on these odd that BT and six that's that great number I didn't I didn't realize that number but that's fantastic. On this thing that I'm calling about is -- -- look at practices saying you're two guys are kind of some of my favorite on the station. But please. You can't and don't promote this. One on it and went. -- think Carson -- oversee the minded I'm sorry about not just the Indian remember eleven. Or people were talking about in spring training. Trapping others are Steve that that's what Josh speak amounts that I wanted to be part of a 120 -- more talk about best you've ever spring training we're talking about twelve games to go -- at the -- I understand I understand but it just. It's not personally because to me it does -- mean many things. Don't immunity. Because I didn't know I mean we're it'll all look at the numbers of people. And winning a hundred -- is incredibly difficult and I understand there at the doorstep. And it didn't -- that team with the Mac call out if that's a bit that they're shooting for the Mets great. I wish Saltalamacchia never mentioned it you know because it probably -- my body but it might have caught up you've met my now yup people. Odd dollars and it was its -- on people's radar out. Confused by this why is everybody you say a hundred games they're -- Botox around a lot -- that -- -- -- doesn't mean Bosnian here's here's a -- a look at it and -- -- -- this before. If one of the players had a milestone. If you had stole -- based milestone home run milestone whatever if the guy was going for by batting title. It's the same sort of thing you're not gonna disrupt your team to do it would you rather over how meaningful was it. I don't know did Terry Francona did you to give way. Yet know what that's not that's a good point. That is an excellent point -- -- -- wins is it -- -- -- -- every bomb went on from but my here's my here's a look at just the milestone right. But in regards that Wakefield analogy Steve that's different because that affected exactly what you were doing. -- what they're gonna do I I've said it before the way this team is constructed. It's almost impossible just to burn things over so much it's not like you can put in. -- separate fifteen players. To play the last ready for games. I understand look I don't understand it right there and that they get it's great but you know this is something I just wanted to become a focal point because. If you 100 -- -- -- -- win the World Series it's like a 116 and -- yeah I mean. Of the of the 93 teams that of 100 games. 65 have gone on to the World Series feel better about that. Pretty. Good if I expect -- that left him Biden and by the way by the way 32 of them have won the world's leaders. So it'll feel a little better Steve. Can actually. A radio I don't want all right -- I think it's fun. Talking. The let's start a new rallying thanks for the cost -- the starting to rally that's -- -- none at all. Six in six the rest of the way to get that match. And he set it -- out that's a great point butch I'll come back to it. Don't you if you're -- Red Sox don't you wanna go 93 for the last twelve games that what you want I know it did enjoy L wants he wants us to break. -- PB thanks for your patience right fuel we get back from the next break. More of your calls at 6177797937. Red Sox baseball on WEEI butch and Bradford from friendly. Definitely this. My. Many. -- -- What do well. 61777979837. As the number one and repeated again if you'd like to join us. Which turns -- rob Bradford from Fenway Park tonight till 730 of the Red Sox pregame at 617. 7797937. Yankees and Red Sox fans. Getting along so far out here on land down street Paul -- you'll be up in the second as those listening to Ortiz talked their -- And looking at his numbers 27 home runs. Three on nine average. 92 RBIs. And a 960 -- PS. And I'm thinking of the red point seven home runs and a figure the Red Sox are second in the American League with a 162. Home runs behind the tigers and home runs don't mean everything but. I'm thinking of other milestones. That besides we've been talking about a hundred games getting hammered by cancer but. Other -- -- -- not back it off the bush other other individual milestones and in the home runs really strike me for team that's in a 162 home runs. Here's the guys that lead in home runs or -- at 27. Napoli with 21. Middle Brooks has fifteen home runs for the up and down season that he's yet and we had three and one game. Victor Reno with fourteen Saltalamacchia with thirteen. Drew with a dozen -- with a dozen. Novel with -- -- minerals single digits and by the way the first I would single digits is Mike Carp would not -- -- had a 191 at bats you want to talk about an unlikely 162. Home runs and how it's spread out. It's all good though is an. That's how this team is constructed that's how does one typically constructed we talked about. Alex Alex keeps saying it is about oh yes which is both -- a lot of people value the most. Which is on base percentage plus slugging percentage. And up and down the line up almost everybody. Has an OP yes a -- Major League average and you do that Major League average roughly -- will depend I mean for their position. So you do that then you're gonna have victory try to consistency you'd kind of have that kind of spread out home run totals. And that's how they've got -- -- -- -- interest let's go to up while PB Paul thanks for your patience. -- hey Dave bill the owner actually I'll Tom. How are you Tom I build it and -- Is terrific Becky you. A couple of quick points here. Compete well -- saying basically intact. And Atlantic being naive that you don't want to sacrifice the team. And and it Jews this week and I mean. That being with what the world community. And I will be disappointed at state well. It appears that there is Tom and I threw this out yesterday. Is that at this point the 91 -- team that you have right now. Bush went when summer comes up to you mystery and says. What do you how far do you think this team being go before it was I don't know we'll see we'll see -- -- -- right now why Kate -- below like Tom -- you say I expect them to win the World Series. A -- a couple of weeks ago. People say and all agree. Why can't do it then it can be I mean they're only that but the first thing that comes to my mind when you say. You know -- -- on the street to feel -- see this team's gonna win the World Series. In the back in my mind as they did Lebanese win the World Series and then it comes to the job is Jon Lester and ice age old argument. Right all right -- what I'm one of those people are more of those people that. And ace is sometimes not the guy. Who's your number one pitcher look at scherzer and the good Verlander this year look at Derek Lowe in 04. And what he did an ace in September and October can be that different person. That was your twenty game winner you're number one starter this and that so could buck colts take the mantle from here -- again. And pitch better than any other pitcher on the steps units in about capsule so. You don't necessarily need. That Tim Lincecum Pedro Martinez I'm thinking of great Cy Young years over the last twenty years you don't need that -- to win the World Series you don't. Teams are perceived -- proved over and over and over again yeah Matt Cain pitched great for saint San Francisco last year. But he wasn't Gary semi was all you are saying you don't need that guy to win the world -- -- hot pitcher. Yes I totally agree my hand and we're talking about time of the season. I think the biggest turnaround was less that we will open again and its young Eddie. That's a good point Tom it's -- thanks for the call it's it's a really good point that. You know it was the all star break where we were worried about last year and again it was the age old argument then that one game in Baltimore. On Sunday remember doing radio show on the post game that's Sunday night. Lester pitched like he pitched him back in the first place. And pitch like any site -- go look at the date but it was a shot out he pitched like an AC and well and any at any of the Arizona starter I believe right after that a couple of his game marks that the double well he. You talk about key decisions that this coaching staff has made. Bumping Jon Lester back those few days after the all star break to give him that extra time seemed like a world of difference. I just dead even that first game back his stuff looked a lot different to me it looked crisper it looked like you're struggling more velocity. And he was battling through some physical stuff he got going with after that little break and hasn't -- cents. Let's go to Jim in North Hampton who's next on WEEI hello Jim. I got actually got but it doesn't -- Rob. -- I got to kill you guys produce 100. Winds. Are scared and starts are classic. -- Element the team has been absolutely. Ritchie are you here. Could it happen almost on this issue is created -- ball -- Yet on game. Why nation go to -- dot to have -- your medicine you're missing my point you're missing my point of -- I'm not saying that the season is going to be defined by them winning a hundred games are not saying that they should change their philosophy. Are resting guys going a hundred games. All I'm saying is that. Milestones. It's a pretty neat one to have considering. Where you came from that's holidays. It don't want saying that they'd have to get to a hundred games but tab. We're sitting here at. With too well regular season games to go. And all you have to go is nice in three to -- -- -- gave something it's only been done three times in organization history. And if -- do that. You look at the comparison the last it's a great story that's all this. You don't there's also the category premier rob it it's the superstar athlete. Who get asked questions about -- what do you think it is small but at that moment it's not try and and the real. Stars say what my career is over I'll look back on that kind of reflect on it will be really wonderful. They don't bigoted in the moment and that's the same thing. Great game went on her game didn't end up doing well in the playoffs everybody can look back and what a spectacular -- candidates. But even be discussing that. -- up to him I respect what you're saying but that's not to say that week we can't discuss this it's a great. Discussion. Is just like if I'll say it again if Jacoby Ellsbury was going for a hundred steals in a season. We witnessed the I think what makes it different as the team to death by the files you know -- it's a milestone right but it's a teen Myles writes why not talk. Talking about a guy I don't for an individual record nobody has said that they should Alter their plans to do it. Tim doesn't want us talking about it -- hard at it. Honestly guys geek and do it much more to talk about the individuals except between successes. But matchups down the stretch. Our will they go deep into the playoffs could be it could do -- for the good of the series that's been all that kind of. I don't know where where -- not -- -- 100 -- there we've been talking about the importance of Buchholz starts we've been talking about everything else Tim I respect what you're talking about and we've been talking about all that stuff we talked up and -- and that's the great thing about this time a year absolutely. But here's the thing. That we've found herself at this point so. -- if you wanna make a list of ten things you talked about the Red Sox. I'm sorry. Big chance of doing something that only three Red Sox teams in history has ever done after entered into the equation. I apologize to all these people who -- generally so upset over for all -- know. Ebbers about Lester we were talking about just to finish that thought before we took -- call. The Baltimore game rob was -- it was a final Sunday in July it was -- right -- for the trading deadline Lester went seven innings. He gave up each seven shutout innings and they beat -- aerials and he won the game. He then came home his first start against -- in August was against Arizona he gave up six earned runs. In gave up eleven hits in for an -- third innings. Since then here's the earned runs he's given up since that game one. 2013131. That's what he's given up and then you go to September now. And in the month of September. He's earned runs or even better in the month of September than he's given up there -- 20. She's we want three and one. 13 and one and she's never given up more than three earned runs in a game since that Arizona law in so that's been eight games. The ERA one point 86. And if you're looking for a guy who's hitting the post season potentially hitting -- season high energy guy. Let's take another quick call before the break let's go to Chris in plain don't like Chris. Good scheme. What I would -- him around or try to figure out. I. -- port side and I can't remember a team that anything like that. I'm BC -- about. Might there about off court but nothing. Quite does -- -- -- all optical write and -- any. There. You guys are or can think of -- It. Well I know I can't -- but let me -- comment on your point. You know they seem like they're the best right and then you said they seem like they're gonna fall off the cliff but why. I mean if you look back on this entire season I'm I've been a person. All you waiting for the other shoe to drop and I'm not the curse guy the -- got it all ended -- four but here's the thing. They have lost more than three games in a row all season long they've given us no reason to doubt them to meet the reason we do. Is the expectations that we had at the beginning of the year which weren't much. Absolutely agreed but I have court. Beyond that point me or you've been -- whatever I've ever seen a team that has won a championship -- -- that this kind of make up. Be more specific what do you mean I'll be minor player all the way through the lineup no superstars that I can. Com. I mean I don't know. That's disrespectful but well look -- OK I would say that no would look at it it's look at. San Francisco last year. They -- they the MVP in Buster Posey. Look at that Matt Cain pitched isn't good as anybody in the post yup well they certainly have guys potentially could do that meteor. You're looking at top of the rotation guy that's what we we look at they have the potential to have that. But certainly. If he's asking how I've seen teams win the World Series with this type of make up where you have good players across the board because. David Ortiz is the best player his position he's one of the best offensive players in the American. Okay there's via if you wanna pick -- got to go BL right now I would say that the one we get a break Robert I would say the team that comes to mind it's not baseball is is the is the 2002 patriots in a 120 candidate he will also run out for a day -- rob Bradford ambushed another hour plus to go here at Fenway Park Red Sox and yankees here on W media.
