guy around and I look I haven't seen a major dip from Tom Brady bit I I. Sometimes with some of those passes are off the market -- wonder whether Tom Brady 89 years ago. Would be off the mark and and I think of all those Wes Welker drops. So many of those Wes Welker drops -- balls that were thrown off the mark and usually he -- those and make Brady makes Brady looked more accurate
high. You become a candidate to be cut and and I think Tom Brady does not want under any set of circumstances to put the patriots in a position where they have to cut him. But these guys can continue the question is. As those skills deteriorate at what point does it intersect with the is sending skills of a young player. But a question for me Mike which. Of the new combos do you think will be more successful next year Manning -- Wes Welker Brady and -- middle. I. I think I think Brady and Amendola this whole notion that -- -- is injury prone look. It was bringing in one of our baseball experts. Quote on quote rob Bradford had robbed. Punch him -- -- there rob rob rob. Hello -- yes rob how are you. I'll be happy holidays guys and rob hunter Greg regard. Greg our -- up blood I don't. We're calling you rob Bradford your analysis. All of this Red Sox -- Feel like it -- for our regular the other day literally the moment. A violent it's spiritual changes everything. You know I think I think that I can tell -- that before all right I don't think it -- a good trade for the Red -- it's because. You know let's and you -- give up much that's reality would be interrupting part of this whole deal to me is that what you are going after regard for one year I think you mentioned a little while ago. It should be open that you might -- -- draft pick compensation if you opt for the qualifying offer. But it's a one year thing and so that's simple math visit today. They actually expects something this year and any minute now I make it to -- to the markets to a certain degree. So you're saying that this is an example that they are quote going for this year. Now going forward in terms of what I've had to put million cars -- -- -- -- -- 159 million dollar -- your children guys make -- nine point five curb -- That shows you that they have some expectation this year like going forward relative term money. You go forward in July you go forward and -- I had before all these people are saying oh you don't want to punt -- by -- getting just -- -- -- guys. Well you know any real world when you can make the argument that did not identify the right guys short but it little world there saying you know what. We're gonna go out its -- -- an important part of this team to the bullpen and that's why the -- get and then. Well to me this is a clear sign of another case of it the chance to stockpile draft picks. I'm just reading the tea leaves here that's gonna be one year. I'll make a qualifying offer he believed and sign a free agent deal depending on the kind of year he has. And there's a draft pick around the corner that's what I see from this deal. Well by you know what area there's no certainty that they're going to be able to do that because if you if you go out and hit -- have a rough year. Off protocol are not hurt to. Are closer who might be might have a down year but it also eked out since Turkey are actually be more than thirteen million dollars a year. Then you know that's a risky thing acknowledged part of the equation no doubt that a ball. But I don't think he can say hey you know what the primary impetus here. Is the dog get that drastic I mean I think you have to take -- into the market we look guys let's be honest they didn't give up -- try to -- -- So it if you can compare to the market that you need and so. What is to become a -- Bailey. Right now I think he's just got -- guy in 97 a student the other -- is eight. Today there -- to be red flag with daily in the sense that. He hasn't been able to get beyond the mid twenties and save opportunities haven't been able to be healthy. The fact that they were willing -- possibly putting them that -- PL. Also showed something. They have to get to build the limit which is every World Series the winner by one and since 2000 I would have gotten which is the 45 save at least 45 saves. And live it daily track record there was certainly all of us are sort of a longshot offers history so I think that right now. He he had the set up. They robbed a good question for yeah. You know every talks about you know starters come from the -- an elf to AL I assume there's not quite the problem is entering closers don't finish. Faced pitchers and and you know only at the pinch hitters don't like -- you know is that is a track worker pretty good from mom you know guys come from nailed it from the -- to -- Well I think that they -- closer to -- a little off a little less room for interpretation meg yeah I mean a practice that. You -- go back -- the series with the Red Sox played against the pirates in 2011 an Internet company and it blows 2034. Pages 97 mile an hour better. The lights out and so that's where you have to start the equation there's no question about it. But it's a good question Greg because. You look at available closers you look at who ordered -- already done it in the American League east. And beyond -- Raphael Soriano who still sitting out there and offer our reach reinvigorate collapsed -- because the draft pick did everything else. But this the guy who not only have good stuff. But has also shown that he can do the American League east. So yeah I mean I think that that's part of the thing that we have to look look at going -- because example that was -- Walesa. The remark Polanski didn't try and play so I I do think that you can't totally discount that. It's a trip -- Brock colts' second baseman 24 years old left hand hater. Are we to assume he's gonna compete for a utility spot this -- you simply. A depth guy in in the organization from the minor league point of view. I figured out guy who's looked a little ball and up guy who -- might be able to compete for that. Particularly guided by its earlier -- a lot of people love pagelets very accurate and they love what he did and in his skill set everything now. Well one thing you should know about into Syria -- would accept Albert where he got exposed to little bit it and -- They did he probably somewhere in between you know what that is why he was doing 18530. Spring training and 400 halfway through the year. But you need it if he he -- in the middle I think he's a good viable utility guy option. But whole district we doubt that and that's why does that again we're waiting for who's going to be the rest of it straight. And the after the both vital and came and spilled maybe give up all law. We could have a picture that you drafted and you're trying to develop and I'm talking about him until. It's a bit. Dicey. To all of a sudden give this -- away knowing how valuable young pitchers can be or have they seen enough knowing that he's just not the goods. Well not all you have to give up something and assorted -- like this but couldn't help it and trusting god because a couple of years ago artistry it was. All month that cop -- pitching prospects. While capital they're more -- -- he put on some weight but not a bad way to predict he gets stronger and bigger grew a little -- -- a hard time adjusting its mechanics. -- glossy paper to do it right at midnight he even touched 97 at times. But she is not perturbed that his growth results are bad so also when he goes down the depth chart Tokyo the pirates. He -- -- would upside to our potential will rotate its stuff. That -- you know will take to change -- that we haven't either under control for a long time. But from the Red Sox perspective you've got a bunch of guys now heading him in the -- depth chart but he did by the god you can put in quality -- Not sure about the pirates stepped in pitching I don't know if there's a closer in waiting near are they gonna punch bullets into. A possible pirate closer he did that -- the Astros in fact he didn't do a bad job at Houston. I'm the pirates looking -- -- says they're close or is there -- some gentlemen that I'm not aware of that is the closer in waiting. Ugly chicks grow he's going to be -- the guys slide and it didn't know what you're gonna say you know you're all star closer and -- close certainly didn't. So that lead you to believe that Milan can buy at some point next year being in the next. -- Egypt that stuff back to the Houston because the company had a couple years ago. Because let's -- I knew when we looked up marked ball -- and last year. We look at hey this is the guy who could close for the Houston Astros in the National League but not necessarily for the -- in front side. So you don't collateral it will -- it is going to be too close to start out. Gloria I believe inflation and the depth chart right now but I've -- into the conversation as the year goes on. -- -- -- no way big strong believe right here in hater who came over and at dodger deal. It was kind of an -- guy. Kind of a slow pitch softball hitter content type guy and I'm assuming that they don't believe the Jerry Santana place in this organization correct. I think you're playing key link in the first base options and and -- the guy who is like you said a big strong guy abide almost worthless too passive and that approach wasn't very aggressive. And and it's nice to take a lot of pitchers but if you aren't able to take advantage of mediocre fastball which -- without a hard time live there and got becomes a problem so. In a week -- what we would fit in front of military commander in front page option early in Nazi. -- and moral -- Mitt and Kerry campaign came up. I've vigorously -- -- even plotted our digital so I don't think that you would ever viewed it a viable candidate that's. Right separate topic that is Mike Napoli any latest on him and it suddenly this they don't get this guy -- his hip. Situation we're gonna go for first baseman. You know I didn't prepare -- worked this out I think it but whether or not it's gonna knock down eight years in the united. We -- by the civilian equivalent concerns me is dead. If you happen that situation you have a guy at first base who you need to get better first -- And in this -- limitation is gonna stop him from doing that for moving around. They end up becomes a problem to me I don't care you know whether they keep the your -- the money that's fine. But you big guy who could potentially get better at first base because you can -- first great defense all you want. But the fact is this little middle let's start throwing balls over there and also enacted that it had Madonna on the other other time in new vehicle going to be able scoop them. Then it becomes an issue I didn't think that monopoly we saw a laughable you're the first -- has potential to get better. But if you out of the outlook physical limitation then that becomes an issue. So her head and hope come over Walesa and -- -- tell the pacers since stands guard at Pittsburgh rob Bradford thank you so much for the information we wish you re. Terrific happy and healthy 2013 thanks for joining us. Got a appreciated happy holidays not electable you soon by Rob Brown.

NESN's Barry Pederson on the Bruins dominance

Cleveland Indians hottest team in baseball, yet remain last in attendance May 19, 2013 By AJ Kaufman 6 Comments There’s a scene in Major League where Bob Uecker, portraying the radio voice of the Indians, bemoans, “In case you haven’t noticed, and judging by the attendance you haven’t, the Indians have managed to win a few here and there, and are threatening to climb out of the cellar.” Well, that was nearly 25 years ago and fictional, but today’s reality is that Cleveland has won 17 of its last 21, and currently tops the AL Central with a mark of 25-17. No one in the majors is better than the Indians in the past month (20-7). That’s great news. The bad news, however, is the Tribe somehow remain in the MLB cellar when it comes to attendance. How can this be? The fact that I wrote on this same topic almost to the day last year – when only Tampa Bay drew fewer fans than Cleveland - may be even more troubling. Though roughly 34,000 watched a walk-off win Friday night against Seattle, perfect weather and free caps weren’t enough to draw more than 36,000 Saturday and Sunday combined. What did the Indians do in those tilts? They nabbed another walk-off win on Saturday, then the Indians crushed the great Felix Hernandez Sunday behind Justin Masterson, arguably the AL’s best pitcher right now. Fun fact: The Indians have already faced eight Cy Young Award winners in 2013: Bartolo Colon, R.A. Dickey, Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Jake Peavy, David Price, Justin Verlander and Hernandez. They have won seven out those eight matchups. Simply astounding. This offseason, the much-maligned Indians front office finally made a legitimate attempt to improve the team through free agency. I’m not talking an Ubaldo Jimenez-like trade, but rather smart acquisitions that brought veterans Mike Aviles, Michael Bourn, Jason Giambi, Scott Kazmir, Brett Myers, Mark Reynolds, Drew Stubbs and Nick Swisher to Cleveland. In addition to being a fantastic place to watch a game due to great egress and ingress, with extremely affordable tickets, the best promo lineup anywhere, Jacobs Field boasts overall, cooler, less muggy summer weather than most Midwestern locales. The team also lowered beer and hot dog prices to $4 and $3 respectively. What other professional stadium in any sport offers that? I have visited 28 of the 30 current Major League Baseball stadia, and few top The Jake when all angles are considered. I say that as a baseball fan, not an Indians fan. As for the putative “economic” angle, these are the same people who spend insane amounts of money to watch terrible football every fall and show up in decent numbers for putrid basketball in the winter. Irrespective of season length, those sports charge up to 10 times the price for a ticket, and the atmosphere isn’t half as fan-friendly as baseball. I understand fans’ lack of willingness to get on board to some degree. A decent recap of Cleveland’s decade of “rebuilding” can be read here and the team suffered a horrific collapse last August. However, in addition to all the benefits of attending games at Jacobs (now Progressive) Field, fans should also realize the team has potential and often exceeds preseason aspirations at any point without warning. Cleveland hosts the rival Detroit Tigers — heavy favorites to repeat as AL Central champs — Tuesday and Wednesday nights before hitting the road. The temperature should be pleasant at first pitch each evening so you’d expect The Jake to be full to watch the best hitter on the planet right now — but don’t count on it.

Minor Details Ep. 49: Managerial development with Torey Lovullo and Arnie Beyeler

By and large, the focus of development in the minor leagues is on players. Still, there is a developmental path for coaches and managers in the farm system, as is evident from the fact that the previous two managers of the Red Sox' Triple-A affiliate in Pawtucket -- Torey Lovullo (2010) and Arnie Beyeler (2011-12) are now both on the Red Sox' big league coaching staff. They share their insights about the differences between player and coaching expectations in Triple-A vs. the majors, while discussing professional development from the perspective of former minor league managers who aspire to similar positions in the big leagues.
