David Ortiz signed a new 2-year deal yesterday with the Red Sox for rougly $26 million. The guys give their reaction. Craig doesn't think they could go any other way, but LJ says he's surprised they didn't try to limit it to another 1-year deal. Craig and Larry do agree there aren't many options for middle of the lineup type bats on the market.

Finally shows up in Foxborough he will be by far and I say this by far the best defensive back on the patriots -- Now he also has great sides he played the style of football that Belichick wants he's very physical line of scrimmage he can he can jam people. He's tough. He can tackle. He can play big receiver selection. The project itself the got to play Denver again got to play Houston maybe twice in a player wants the regular season got to play Houston got to play. Denver you may have to put all the mortgage you can match this player up on the best receiver for any of those teams and feel like. He can take them out of the game. And win that match up and so I think that certainly is why his talent level is. Is needed into it. You know is that Mike Lombardi from the NFL network is also on inside the NFL on showtime well respective league. Did not once assessed the personal character. Of the patriots new DB rock we tell lead it's all about what you can do on the football field we saw or Randy Moss we -- over Corey Dylan. Well we didn't see it too much regard Chad. Ochocinco and -- That's a great point though that you brought up Chad that's a great example. All of the other idiot things that mean he wasn't breaking a law or anything but the things that he was doing right notice. People didn't care about that as much as the fact that but I couldn't play. Don't know they cared about it only when they found out that he quit exactly right if you can play better when I'll get Al. -- Brandon Spikes this guy's done accomplice a dumb things are ready with his tweets I would have witnessed we lost that -- I think of when he. I think that it Brandon Spikes don't won't remember the college video that was me I don't remember at all earlier I don't know -- -- -- -- -- -- against Iran perfect case in point. So that's how we have to so that's -- -- immediately you say well. You bring this guy and now the patriots have. But the miles pot I heard Peter King was not that and enthralled to him but he's more of a shot down. Corner and I think they haven't had that. I like to see him go back to some man to man myself I I just I don't seem according as a as a corner he doesn't look back he gets beat a lot maybe you'll be better as a safety but. Again at least now you know how much I loved draft picks you know I love draft. Picks in the patriots in don't have as many this year anyway because some of the year earlier signings. But you got to look the number one thing did you go to look at on the patriot is Tom Brady. In every year the clock is ticking if you have -- offense in you have a team that looks like -- compete and go in get into the big show again. That twitch of pleading for but you don't exist -- some -- riding right in you know we don't when he used a draft. I will say this I'll say this and we are going with it and the conversation. And he hasn't played a single game won't for another couple weeks is because of substance abuse isolation. Will not be eligible play -- we -- level which is set in three weeks -- -- gonna miss a couple of games obviously the bye week this week for the pats. But suddenly. And I know this is pure speculation. But with that offense exploding. In Wembley Stadium last Sunday and the defense without Talib. After that first -- Sam Bradford touchdown pass. Obviously playing well front seven feasting on the rams' offensive line. Suddenly the bet that its debt to word. Odd title for the championship games being used quite frequently people talking about Super Bowl again. Based on that forty cannot brilliantly when you look at -- -- you say what are you concerned about. That's pretty much the only concern. That if they can win the Super Bowl now secondary. Right they -- you know everybody Chandler Jones and at the -- how it is certainly better in those positions they have their Frontline is certainly better. Brady in the offenses is him when they get Hernandez back after the bye week and he's now Ian Welker and -- wait I mean they're really pretty much offset. By the way my MVP for the first half of the season is. I have no idea that they finicky. All of New England wanted to now. -- just aren't as a palpable sigh of relief area and now it's well it was better than your -- -- given any thought to exhaust -- I think what is your stomach that offensive line. -- even with me and -- out in in in solar -- come along now and he's athletic -- ago Paul anyway anyway telling me is and you start I'm Ashley you know I'm not -- how happy would you I think is a wonderful signing -- willing to give up the fourth round pick. Take advantage of Brady's. The edge he's not getting any younger Brady has the look every -- number -- absolutely guide -- island that you and yeah that model. Just from hours at a -- in the overnight hours we're gonna -- a Roman adds that in two or who were not and you wanna look like Brady. That we were doing. At what function was that -- howitzers that that was what occurred to you with this particular function W wouldn't want to -- -- -- I just hours of processing all right so the other big thing and of course you are in my best buy I know you -- ramble on about not -- actually not that it was merit and and. Yes and we will certainly take your telephone calls is 617. 7797937. About that of course a new text number is 3719837. You about a month or so ago when the Red Sox season came to an ignominious and with -- eight straight losses of course. Their best player in the heart of the lineup had been missing. For the last two and a half months yourself. You're not quite sure that the Red Sox should be spending. Millions on retaining a guy who had an Achilles problem. And really. I'm you know at an advanced age of 37 years old may not be worth the money but here the Red Sox. Went ahead anyway despite your protestations. And signed David Ortiz to a two year 26 million dollars plus incentives which could. Make it a total package surprise package of thirty million dollars -- would you change your minds. Finally went to -- saw the second half of the Red Sox season and the Celtics game last night haven't commonly David Ortiz. David Ortiz was the Celtic game they have a common when things got rough recount out a lot. Literally. -- left early last night at the first person and does that as Bobby Valentine probably. I. I would prefer to sign -- guy his age. Knee injury -- -- long -- recover Ira to preferred one year it was Sweden Apollo but it may be giving him fourteen. He obviously he's more valuable year then -- and any other team him in Pretoria on the face of the franchise. I think what happened is there was sums wrong rumors felt in Texas is -- must sign you know and was salivating at the possibility of getting him there. Acting via. It is the magic -- abuse of business all the time leverage right and I think he got some leverage in a -- enough leverage to get the deal that he wanted. And also some incentives. India so. I understand it. When you look at the free agent list out there is the habit is not that stock is just not it is not even like you and gore by a player. It's just not that many available right now. So I can understand them doing it I think the only thing that I would impress upon David Ortiz and and I wish somebody over the Celtics management -- He's got to be about a leader there. Leader human things got rough last year -- he whines and complains. Near the end of the season read about in ten games left and balancing. Valentine's on the way out the door. To new deal. That's all you hear from him is whining and whining and complaining. About his new contract it's all about again we go back to the same discussion we had about totally believes transgressions. Are. Much -- well right now obviously right on -- -- again -- again -- no but -- -- -- -- -- about -- -- -- -- simple -- that well with -- it's also about -- -- not -- -- coming -- -- leader. We've become any of the leader -- -- asked him to Ambien play I think what Ortiz as you want him to. Continue to be that DH and in productive. DH that he has in any one of the greatest if not the -- greatest clutch hitter. Red Sox have ever had now he has here what you're asking for a little more leadership and I don't think he's. Showing that to the degree that they need I think he's got his money now. I hope you'll stop whining for the next two years because again -- love him as a player. But the whining just really get on -- and particularly that timing of the -- Greg -- about the timing of the mining. In in whether or not at Sherwood not him shutting it down he certainly was an artery is -- -- -- great events I just I don't have pro so I can I don't know valentines and a lot of things. But I know we got all of -- very last year and the year before because deterrent so long for him to come -- Well Ortiz was in no hurry to come back even. Although there are those who have intimidated that perhaps been cheering and others in the Red Sox front office. Told David not to rush back after this every did come back a couple of base hits and suddenly re injured. That Achilles after the Red Sox made their -- that's why I always say this that you -- after me and I everything after the patriots season. I think you benefit the players when you come out in you saying -- by the maverick at a very critical of Mankins in the Super Bowl -- that you played that well. What and you find out later that guy had a severe knee injured ligament problem in Vizio are so I mean then you say all star I think at the end of the year. I think it benefits these plays it's not an excuse but I think you need to have all the information that you don't have at the time. I think if they told Ortiz to shut it down and they told them that we don't wanna risk further injury to that. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- And then when Texas came on right. In several where were interested but then all of a sudden you kind of forced the union. I understand it -- -- disappoint with -- I love watching him as a ballplayer my only challenge to him his budget evening won't be whining everything's happening now when he's got his money. Is just became very nerve wracking as a leader of the team to be doing. Well we have very little talent in the everyday lineup very little talent fortunately in the rotation although I think Ferrell have some sort of an impact from. Jon Lester I think you'll see a rebound from hammonds and certainly buckles I think we'll have. A year more akin to 2011. Them last year. You need David Ortiz in in the key thing is the guy has done it consistently. For a decade he's done it for ten years he's done it here about all the players and most recently Crawford and Gonzales guys decide to. Twenty million dollar a year contract. -- wouldn't do it in this market David Ortiz is is signed for what thirteen a year. Basically the hometown discount and he's proven he can do it. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
