We talked to Mike -- during the football season upon last year and all things patriots and all things Broncos and Mike joining us on the AT&T hotline to read Mike's work obvious on Twitter like cliffs and also for the Denver Post like it's much lower Boston power you. Doing great I -- for having me. Hey Mike you -- Boston the Red Sox make a trade they unload 250 million dollars and some problems and everybody feels a bit better about it now. I look at Denver needs to get Tebow mania with a height probably always is talent. John Elway John Fox those guys gonna be citizen while we get rid of this guy we get rid of the that the somewhat of a circus with a headache departed Peyton Manning. After over a good about that overall change in the year. Yeah they did it and you're right one was. I think Elway. Thought that. The only way to. Get out from underneath the people circus as you as you put it was up get out from under the -- Which you bring in a trial like Peyton Manning to bring in eighty a real headliner. And they got -- man you know it's I've always risky more those riskier than most people thought because. I was looking at it a little too pragmatically and -- -- 36 coming off before neck surgeries and a missed season. And people -- all the flaws was 25 and I I just thought he could go ahead and build your team around him with defense and running. The ball and let him do a little you know whatever he does which is -- in all options are -- Interrupted play a kind of a big -- -- -- -- and you could figure out how to win that way. But. I I don't think it's only four games into this -- right. That a pleasant surprise -- in Manny. He has that he looks like. You know with the exception of one quarter against Atlanta. He looks like. He's as good as he's ever been at least as good as he was in 2010. What about the arm strength don't like because -- mentioned -- the quarter he had against Atlanta through the three picks I feel like watching Manning right now a lot of throws to put a lot into it maybe not. The velocity we've seen in the pass from Peyton Manning do you think that's affected him. And all in terms of of the the throws the he has made these first four games. -- -- That there's been much discussion. Not much since Atlantic game it definitely came up there Atlantic in the first quarter. -- takeaways ulcer Texan. But -- can't really do that that's what so many people saw -- street picks in the first quarter. But aside from those first three possessions against the Balkans he's got a touchdown passes in early interception. So that was kind of -- so far in the first order form. ER. ICC. World the ball with authority in China between the cities. Steps from the scene -- It and later in the app file -- games -- the ball to -- Thomas if you remember. -- 22 yards in thomas' -- in the -- Sony got knocked knocked loose by his safety. In any yet another -- it was forty yarder on the scene Eric Decker left -- So he came back in Schultz I'll. Last week had a tremendous game against the raiders. Statistically but it he really remorse short passes -- bunch of five to ten yard catch this and they they took off and ran the ball. It's seems to me like -- we went kind of had that same kind of kept intact to. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- That heavy percentage of their offense. You know I think Andy's doing the same thing he can make those -- that you see Brady made all the time and then once or twice. You know after -- -- given dunk and it and play in the small ball into play actually will topple ball down there. He may not be able to stand in the pocket and -- -- sixty -- I don't know evercore. But he can't do that he does have to to put his body into the property can still get it out there. You know a lot of people student and still be some -- -- about -- and safety. Where Turkey pot touchdown pass he's done that pre season and you know right probably a -- a couple miles an hour off -- fastball but he was more Greg -- and Curt Schilling anyway so a lot. It seems like if he has lost some arm strength it's still good enough. Mike houses defense improve the defense that last year the patriots put 41 on and then 45 in the playoffs. -- well that the New England Patriots at the Broncos going back to the drawing board in the offseason. I they have anybody could cover to say there's too much its people and -- and that patriots. Match ups because of Broncos had no one who could cover idea. And I want to propagate patriots. So they did address that a yacht. They picked up Tracy Porter who is a better cover guy and -- recruitment. They eat they picked up my -- arms who's better than Brian Dawkins in the coverage. Ricky Moore has another year experience. They picked a jetliner for depth. And he's a good -- you guys know him pretty well and in fact I keep thinking that Jim latter date date they need to start playing Jim letter that sixty. So I think they're a little bit out better equipped especially censored and this isn't like. You know he gave them that the first game Gradkowski -- in the second game. Saw it in Holland and Chris Harris. The nickel back I'd get a pretty good job against Welker in bowl games last year so why do you think the Broncos think they're a little better factor -- still. I do you think the way to attack the Broncos his thirty year they've been surprisingly good against Iraq. So far and I don't know England had a couple hundred yard rushers last week. But Jack del real. His scheme. It is a lot he has been better against the run. So far the second biggest surprise -- or an improvement from last year has been -- defense. I'm number one being the quarterback play of course. Michael -- Denver Post joining us Von Miller was a guy last year you know as a rookie that just. He stood out because the ability to get around that and -- pressure Mike was so scary. If you're an opposing quarterback what do you make a year -- for him his -- taken a step forward in your mind as a defense stand out. What he had and had a soft Warsaw I mean he's got force -- thank. In sell off or sex or four games networks you know X sixteen and anybody will take that as a good year. The thing about Von Miller is she's he's almost on likeable guys one on one. Because of his athleticism he's got tremendous the site -- -- speed off the -- He's strong for you know he's -- 55 strong. Besides that he's got that they column can be he's got tremendous flexibility. And that's what really kind of separates him from other -- structures that's what he has. A lot better than the others it is flexibility. Solid but where Von Miller isn't very good at stopping Iran get better still got a long ways ago. He had in pass coverage he can get lots of -- to compete again. A little two walks and to the backfield and that double move up by a tight it'll give him so. That's what that's teams that do they try to run at Von Miller -- try to pass that Bob Miller. But it's tough to block Bob Miller. Mike you look at Peyton Manning and Tom Brady and it could be one of the best robbery quarterbacks in history of the game given the the importance of the games when they do play the golf than they did play each other throughout their careers. But it was Indianapolis and it was new way England I'm wondering in Denver kind of buzz is that realizing that this rivalry is renewed. Why don't this is why this is my first rodeo the Brady mini rivalry and I'm kind of you know Hubble excited about it at the justice -- you know interview utility interviews and and write the stories. That you you know you you do understand that. You're covered greatness here when you talk about -- main. -- The you know maybe sit block minutes and the ball were the only yet and I don't think the media was around to -- to -- it. Like it has the last twelve years here in the NFL. But that's probably the only quarterback rivalry that rivals and you know -- -- -- -- started it looked at it statistically I've watched almost all the games from afar and really. As I wrote two days you know it's it's an indirect saying. -- Brady goes out on the field and he -- is that -- point to -- cabinet minister and he goes out courses many that he candidate the end of the day that. The scoreboard operator has -- and determined to win. Directly it's early pit Manny vs ballot check. And ballot -- definitely had many stopped early. You know even in 2000. -- New England wasn't very good. GP and but I haven't six. It was lieutenant six colts team -- -- five -- eleven New England team. And Belichick came up with a weight. To intercept. -- I think three times in the 2000 game. And then of course Manny was just on fire looks all unstoppable at 2003 at 2000 or. And it goes in and knowing Lebanese churn up to stop so. That's what really happened to the rivalry. Manning bounced back some here at least recently won winning for the last six against Brady. But. I I do think it's. You know it is her Manny I think it's more -- purses ballot check. That it has been Manning vs Brady. Like about real quick as you got caught up in the and you saw firsthand the Tebow mania and what he did for that team and it might not have been because of necessarily stats. Just he brought something to it. Is -- the right move in New York to go assemble Mark Sanchez European. Yeah. I think you put in people when you went. Where are now. Oh. I know everyone you know -- arise that that guy immediately ridicule that guy in the insult the way that -- passes. I don't care I think there some that. Innate about the guy editors that they are something special about the guy. He truly. Does something today to the rest Petit. Inaudible the defense thinks what he can't play quarterback we better we better -- appear. I think it's because people know that -- will bring so much attention. When he's out there. It really energize the defense last year the defense scenes at the jets is affected by people playing quarterback. -- it'll Broncos defenses as he offense and so I'd say the way Rex Ryan likes to play football which is defense and run the ball. That Rex Ryan would get a jolt. And kind of silent all the way to silence the criticism that silence the all the talk about people is to play a and so you play and the way it looks to me from the -- They got not pollute. Stick anyway and the -- theory what are John agrees that the in my attic that's gonna happen pretty Sunnis likely as Denver politic about on Twitter. And Mike listen up Michael scene here for up Manning and Brady on Sunday. Joining us on the AT&T hotline AT&T forgy LTE. With speeds up to ten times faster than three G it's AT&T. Rethink possible good insight on a Denver team and Manning and what he's meant. Of course couple of Tebow question since we spent on an hours worth time last year talk -- Mike about Tim Tebow gets a break here not next hour 130. Little game here in studio -- Miss America miss USA. It's gonna be here in studio -- and we're gonna put her sports knowledge of the test against you guys that's next hour keep it here.

NESN's Barry Pederson on the Bruins dominance

Cleveland Indians hottest team in baseball, yet remain last in attendance May 19, 2013 By AJ Kaufman 6 Comments There’s a scene in Major League where Bob Uecker, portraying the radio voice of the Indians, bemoans, “In case you haven’t noticed, and judging by the attendance you haven’t, the Indians have managed to win a few here and there, and are threatening to climb out of the cellar.” Well, that was nearly 25 years ago and fictional, but today’s reality is that Cleveland has won 17 of its last 21, and currently tops the AL Central with a mark of 25-17. No one in the majors is better than the Indians in the past month (20-7). That’s great news. The bad news, however, is the Tribe somehow remain in the MLB cellar when it comes to attendance. How can this be? The fact that I wrote on this same topic almost to the day last year – when only Tampa Bay drew fewer fans than Cleveland - may be even more troubling. Though roughly 34,000 watched a walk-off win Friday night against Seattle, perfect weather and free caps weren’t enough to draw more than 36,000 Saturday and Sunday combined. What did the Indians do in those tilts? They nabbed another walk-off win on Saturday, then the Indians crushed the great Felix Hernandez Sunday behind Justin Masterson, arguably the AL’s best pitcher right now. Fun fact: The Indians have already faced eight Cy Young Award winners in 2013: Bartolo Colon, R.A. Dickey, Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Jake Peavy, David Price, Justin Verlander and Hernandez. They have won seven out those eight matchups. Simply astounding. This offseason, the much-maligned Indians front office finally made a legitimate attempt to improve the team through free agency. I’m not talking an Ubaldo Jimenez-like trade, but rather smart acquisitions that brought veterans Mike Aviles, Michael Bourn, Jason Giambi, Scott Kazmir, Brett Myers, Mark Reynolds, Drew Stubbs and Nick Swisher to Cleveland. In addition to being a fantastic place to watch a game due to great egress and ingress, with extremely affordable tickets, the best promo lineup anywhere, Jacobs Field boasts overall, cooler, less muggy summer weather than most Midwestern locales. The team also lowered beer and hot dog prices to $4 and $3 respectively. What other professional stadium in any sport offers that? I have visited 28 of the 30 current Major League Baseball stadia, and few top The Jake when all angles are considered. I say that as a baseball fan, not an Indians fan. As for the putative “economic” angle, these are the same people who spend insane amounts of money to watch terrible football every fall and show up in decent numbers for putrid basketball in the winter. Irrespective of season length, those sports charge up to 10 times the price for a ticket, and the atmosphere isn’t half as fan-friendly as baseball. I understand fans’ lack of willingness to get on board to some degree. A decent recap of Cleveland’s decade of “rebuilding” can be read here and the team suffered a horrific collapse last August. However, in addition to all the benefits of attending games at Jacobs (now Progressive) Field, fans should also realize the team has potential and often exceeds preseason aspirations at any point without warning. Cleveland hosts the rival Detroit Tigers — heavy favorites to repeat as AL Central champs — Tuesday and Wednesday nights before hitting the road. The temperature should be pleasant at first pitch each evening so you’d expect The Jake to be full to watch the best hitter on the planet right now — but don’t count on it.
