That was fun wasn't it hey welcome preached everywhere you a political like tonight the WEEI. Sports Saturday Korea. Still the afternoon. About the fourteen minutes away at twelve minutes away from the big. Six what 777 -- jury -- till 3888525. Generate repeat text BA tip create tip did you tweet me at. WEEI am vehicle at a clock and it's Clemson or Florida State from Bobby Bowden field that -- Campbell's statement that's. To be a great game tonight number four against number ten and that when there. But anyway first thing's first we'll talk about the Red Sox for a couple minutes here and then we'll get into via patriots in the ravens game. For -- the -- to be honest rupiah. Although I do have us some interesting free agency. Numbers to throw that year if time permits -- -- wanna talk about that certainly -- a couple of great the pieces written today. One in CBS sportsline. By a mr. Raymond did a great job let's talk about that just initially talked about this Baltimore Orioles team. Which really just continues to amaze and they along with the Oakland a.'s largest incredible stories there really are. And once again the Baltimore Orioles they have now won sixteen straight extra inning games that we're talking about this for month. About why did and so while now the run differential must close and was a Brokeback about a month ago or month and a half ago of their run differential -- elect a minus 53. Well now that's like -- minus five or something like that. They've caught up but still they have dug well we talked about this month month and a half ago. How well they had done an extra innings then. Adding -- any one run games they were phenomenal record of one run games in a phenomenal record obviously sixteen into an extra inning games or Red Sox just sucked. An extra games 017 home. Fenway Park and 219 overall that's just the least of their problems but once again. I have to bring up the go a little bit of drama as usual pro Savvis comes and and actually you know really really sucked today again two thirds of -- inning he was just horrible gave up three hits and three runs out takes the loss. As usual shows up Bobby Valentine Bobby comes out to get the ball el -- just holds the ball in his glove and just holds it -- makes Bobby. You don't reach -- was glove and take the ball a lot is just absolutely childish I don't know why this guy's still on this team. A really understand -- should have been gone a long time ago. But that's just my two cents up about that. Certainly -- you just -- the -- and once again want extra innings was there any doubt that there or those -- gonna win this game certainly non. None on my part apps apps league not -- -- hoping I'd get on the air support because -- Baltimore one. Three extra games this week and -- -- Seattle was eighteen innings having an element was what fourteen or fifteen innings and David. That point five and six -- games lately I was -- it to be on the air -- -- clock. -- -- -- 61777. I'd 085888525. Very pretty. -- Jacoby Yeltsin -- third straight a game today Bobby Valentine had his ought shocks before the the game today saying -- You know justice would reveal information which is fine usually does. But it is he's learned his lesson -- was undisclosed injury for Jacoby Ellsbury really doesn't matter and then reports whatever it is to shut him down. For the rest of the year there's -- instead it just doesn't matter because of your Red Sox brand you really want them to lose you want that tenth pick. Us -- to protect the first the top ten picks are protected. I mean after that is not. And if one or more on that -- and Alex appear on WEEI dot com breaks it all down by. For those who don't know what that means that I opted to ten -- protected. That means the team need not -- such a picture of signing a free agent with -- who receives a one year qualifying offer about thirteen million. From the team with whom he spent all 2012. So picks outside the top ten in the upper deck so you really want the -- watch the Red Sox to. Be honest with you. Did to keep that it protected. That being said. Baltimore and the Yankees by the way go to had a body as you heard probably yet they've -- and Joseph and John talked about it before. In the in the twelfth inning aging yankees tied bodies get thrown out of the plate and a ground ball the second with a third and wild pitch. I got thrown out at the plate. So that game is still tied at five they are still India twelfth. And that was Russell Martin who Robin's second base is now on third and Jeter's at the plate Chavez's that -- or keep you posted there. But the Yankees lose Baltimore community to -- outside world for first place. Lots of talk about this patriots ravens let me just say this before we go get the phone calls my -- -- -- -- as many calls as I can't for a while since. Are about a -- today that I don't show was great being ominous Khaled match say first of all to a must gradually everybody year. At W -- EW EEI taking home the Marconi award again. Fourth time this radio station is one Marconi award which for those of you don't know like the Oscars for radio really is. The states have been nominated seven times it's the fourth time they won in the last one was obviously -- 911 for a sports. Best -- station of the year so congratulations to Jeff routers from wolf the entire staff everybody. Here at WE. Yeah congratulations great job. Now happy it's at patriots ravens. And. It's time now for my two cents were I -- Italian. I have had it with the Wes Welker conspiracy talk -- it. I think it is all over the top it is week break in true. The people wanna come up -- all these theories and I'll entertain all of them however crazy they maybe. That's -- -- one thing I will never admit to is that this is being done to Wes Welker out of spite. I still say you go back and watch and most noticeably go back and watch the first game against Tennessee the way -- -- running the ball you kinda have to. And -- -- take that degree assault as far as what Wes Welker from -- -- -- to run the ball pretty effectively a Bradley was outstanding. Now definitely has something going on. Probably -- open is going on I don't think anybody has I can put a finger on it. What I what I just can't stand is. Is that all of -- and anybody who comes up with with some kind of a different theory. Is -- -- and that sounds logical by the way like Tommy car ended. Before -- jumped all over a -- tonight. No it's just being you know shot out but it's always it's always conspiracy theorists out there that that the Bill Belichick haters who once it's just that but like -- that as a vendetta. Does anybody think Bill Belichick -- do anything but win games and that he would jeopardize. An honest white not you're somebody like a Wes Welker. Out of spite. You may disagree. With him for not starting -- -- not using as much early on in that game. And that's all they are -- theories about is the disciplinary action going on -- up that we don't know about. I don't know Caribbean bureau of the above I don't know maybe it's just the way elements from playing practice. I don't know. I don't know this. I just get the feeling -- eight or nine that will be looking who only remember the storm will be laughing about it I really do. I'll -- Wes Welker is being set to be traded I really don't I'd be shocked. I just think it is such a small sampling and people go open -- not just. Here in patriot nation of hatred print or jet printer giant picked it doesn't matter everybody goes struck. So early on an NFL season and I don't know how many times have to say -- time and time again you are not gonna learn anything about any of these teams. Until around Thanksgiving that's the way it is all you have to do was go back last year. And every sports generated from that market every single week everybody is trying in reaching so hard. To come up with us some kind of an agenda or some kind of a theory out all these teams I think one week is gonna trends in the next. Doesn't work that way. Doesn't work that way anybody thinks you know in a Baltimore did not have a good game last week in Philadelphia okay. Certainly Flacco gonna look -- especially in the Anderson -- will play play calling as well by Cam Cameron has that wasn't just the it was last week but the patriots in Arizona. Why does everybody automatically assume that game is gonna trend into this one. I don't understand. Tackles for any team in any game. Dallas public accord to Seattle last week that humiliated. After being in the giants' opening night if anybody out their big -- that figure wrap this league after a week troop. Well you're a better person in your crystal ball must be outstanding. But to that a whole lot -- a lot to talk about what the over the patriot and the ravens. You bring up the Red Sox if you want to talk about effort -- -- Perot services showing up of of Bobby -- again how about anybody catch the pick off throw to reveal -- once again. There imagine -- the sudden decide surprised that given the fabulous had no idea just liked disliked. Pedroia didn't a couple of weeks ago the balls coming right -- -- absolutely moron. I need get a clue what -- idling and understand -- on the team but we talk about that more money get it to the patriots and the ravens. Wanna hear what your theories and if you agree with me about it's just it's it's to a small sampling for any team -- get carried away. Everybody needs to just com oblique down a little bit here. It's way too it was week it was a bad luck for the -- to that you know what the gonna have a clunker. Haven't against NFC team we're probably not gonna matter all that much in the end. And even if the patriots lose this Sunday and -- -- Baltimore loses this on day one of -- this one until. Does that mean it gonna take some trend for the worst and they headed to hell and football land and not make the playoffs. Look at the schedule the rest of the way. But the patriots. Baltimore some of these other teams and I know on paper looks so easy -- patriots. -- may not look so easy for the change what as you know you should know by now it never really works out that way. All I'm asking sometimes is just take a step back take a breath. It to all at once by so many and I know some of most of you were not. I know most of your clear head and have your own your own opinions by this conspiracy theory stuff and that they're doing -- -- -- -- to Wes Welker right that is a kind of ridiculous. Kinda ridiculous. Welcome back to tell you what level to corporate rate welcome back. -- I tell you what some of the former players and ESPN have probably broken down this patriot. Cleveland Indians hottest team in baseball, yet remain last in attendance May 19, 2013 By AJ Kaufman 6 Comments There’s a scene in Major League where Bob Uecker, portraying the radio voice of the Indians, bemoans, “In case you haven’t noticed, and judging by the attendance you haven’t, the Indians have managed to win a few here and there, and are threatening to climb out of the cellar.” Well, that was nearly 25 years ago and fictional, but today’s reality is that Cleveland has won 17 of its last 21, and currently tops the AL Central with a mark of 25-17. No one in the majors is better than the Indians in the past month (20-7). That’s great news. The bad news, however, is the Tribe somehow remain in the MLB cellar when it comes to attendance. How can this be? The fact that I wrote on this same topic almost to the day last year – when only Tampa Bay drew fewer fans than Cleveland - may be even more troubling. Though roughly 34,000 watched a walk-off win Friday night against Seattle, perfect weather and free caps weren’t enough to draw more than 36,000 Saturday and Sunday combined. What did the Indians do in those tilts? They nabbed another walk-off win on Saturday, then the Indians crushed the great Felix Hernandez Sunday behind Justin Masterson, arguably the AL’s best pitcher right now. Fun fact: The Indians have already faced eight Cy Young Award winners in 2013: Bartolo Colon, R.A. Dickey, Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Jake Peavy, David Price, Justin Verlander and Hernandez. They have won seven out those eight matchups. Simply astounding. This offseason, the much-maligned Indians front office finally made a legitimate attempt to improve the team through free agency. I’m not talking an Ubaldo Jimenez-like trade, but rather smart acquisitions that brought veterans Mike Aviles, Michael Bourn, Jason Giambi, Scott Kazmir, Brett Myers, Mark Reynolds, Drew Stubbs and Nick Swisher to Cleveland. In addition to being a fantastic place to watch a game due to great egress and ingress, with extremely affordable tickets, the best promo lineup anywhere, Jacobs Field boasts overall, cooler, less muggy summer weather than most Midwestern locales. The team also lowered beer and hot dog prices to $4 and $3 respectively. What other professional stadium in any sport offers that? I have visited 28 of the 30 current Major League Baseball stadia, and few top The Jake when all angles are considered. I say that as a baseball fan, not an Indians fan. As for the putative “economic” angle, these are the same people who spend insane amounts of money to watch terrible football every fall and show up in decent numbers for putrid basketball in the winter. Irrespective of season length, those sports charge up to 10 times the price for a ticket, and the atmosphere isn’t half as fan-friendly as baseball. I understand fans’ lack of willingness to get on board to some degree. A decent recap of Cleveland’s decade of “rebuilding” can be read here and the team suffered a horrific collapse last August. However, in addition to all the benefits of attending games at Jacobs (now Progressive) Field, fans should also realize the team has potential and often exceeds preseason aspirations at any point without warning. Cleveland hosts the rival Detroit Tigers — heavy favorites to repeat as AL Central champs — Tuesday and Wednesday nights before hitting the road. The temperature should be pleasant at first pitch each evening so you’d expect The Jake to be full to watch the best hitter on the planet right now — but don’t count on it.
