How so what does he do that remind you of yourself.

You also made a living pitching multiple innings as a closer something we don't see that often now do you think that is something that most guys can do now that they were given that opportunity

I was workhorse in -- I -- the you know I look first albeit it will become the ballpark with the opportunity to pitch -- will be in the bullpen. With 310 career saves I think people might be surprised to remember that in your fifth year in Major League Baseball. All of a sudden the White Sox decided to going to be a starter you started 29 games you had 15 complete games that year. And then went back into the bullpen what happened there.

Well I had what the fireman of the year Eric did commit the vital loaded being recognized as one of the -- leaders in the lead. I was totally out of players that I'll do whatever it takes for the team in whatever bet that the team that. And I would -- several days eight starter it. Then the following year I ended up tied at 17 it was probably the worst team that I've ever played on in the big league. I'm curious does papelbon had this this progression from starter to closer and they were talking about -- back and forth. How hard is it physically to make that move from the starting rotation to the bullpen.

Well I don't think that that typical certainly I had beat kind of -- better -- and IQ is. I drove drove drove drove drove with the eight being you know how my arm reacted in and -- one great thing about my arm was it is out back the night night. And and I carried it worked well I would do work course but I had very addict you know that's why they you know they -- very odd though they have heard a very out there is complete pitcher all are well you know you better stop and think before you make that statement. That you look we did it it will compare apples to Apple because we're -- the current debate you know did not -- role as well what we used to -- you know I I am very outspoken about it and you know it's just one of those -- you know they'd they'd forget about what we used to do.

you just touched on my next question you said these guys to be compared to do not you to them. You mentioned Mariano Rivera how does he compare --

Well at like expanded it the different role and and compare what we need to do I ate apples in Norwich is it. Are being used is way they should be used because to have a guy like -- our Apple bought. Available -- ballclub -- night is they cute psychological edit your team. -- bit if it bit psychologically to be opposing team you know it it's -- may be but you know and -- I wasn't available -- creating that it that accurately date because those are ruling. Over their careers in a ball that great over their careers which guy has been more effective in your opinion --

Well I bet that the tough because you know there's more weight get a -- the I I would have picked Mariano. Just doubt that just because that it cutter and guide it in not you know. Trevor not a -- 88 -- Trevor Trevor is a great great relief pitcher. Yet we you know you don't get 500 days without being great and in I don't want to take anything away from them but what these guys do it easy compared to what we do it I get I would you know I'm I get an empire has been in terms of the -- he's. Very -- he is. You know it it bill expected -- You know the post -- in certainly there was a period there where there's you know there weren't that many great teams in the division it. In the gate he ended up compiling a great statistic in terms of -- beaten number's been. And Mario was part of that at Trevor -- the part of those great quitting. Team could be gate he'd been in in -- evident owner like George Steinbrenner I think he would peppers with would be terrible I think I would put into those situations I would. Get the vote doubt ballot slap in the state that every person that ever every player that ever played in the big leagues. You obviously feel like you should be in the Hall of Fame are there any other. Hall of Fame omissions guys that you played against that just make you scratch your head and say why isn't back I -- now.

Well let's say Eric Ghiaciuc big 1 wait well well on the way out of my career with that O'Neal leave a great great. Great theater and I BP people love the all of they've. I think -- should be of all of they've I think it Louie Tiant as a pitcher out of order and I think -- Jack or. To compare I don't think you're ever going to be another starter -- develop all of a -- that out of you know -- equal bowl and Glavine but are we bowl Clement the issue it Martinez will probably go hit rbi job will go hit. But outside of the fact that the way to game it's K they'll -- you're ever going to be another starter with all of state without ever in the -- of course yet you know I've that he's another in the you know issues I think the off.

Goes he led 33 saves one year in New York for the Yankees you have 30 another year your two best years in terms of number of saves came in New York. How different was it pitching in that atmosphere and that microscope.

Well it was very you know -- that tradition at the -- winning tradition where there is no other tradition in in in any sport really. And especially in baseball that even compares to.
