Hard to believe you've been out of the game three years. On the you started off what we're with a bang you came up pretty strong and we were talking -- sets about this and how strong you came out of the gate and he had to say some things probably that people appear knowing what we're not crazy about because. You were the the the neutral broadcast how different is now three years in a what you don't. Well I think obviously have a lot more comfortable on. I kind of know. I can just relax and kind of be myself and not try to become -- broadcaster because I'm not a broadcaster. I'm just the guys that for now filling the role. United with the business you never know alone. Because you'll be at that shares -- on the have a good economy whether it's three years five years. It you know you know obvious. You know I'm just I'm relieved to have a good time and -- the the difficult part about you not think but initial. Big hit was when Belichick went for Obama's fourth down against Indianapolis and had to come out I think some things but. I couldn't find myself with a with a -- -- that couldn't I couldn't protect the way out one look what I wanted to say had the half they'll. And -- kind of difficult but I think feel relief. Understood that they have a job to do not personal and and I have always been a pretty -- shoes to -- when -- looked myself up and straight shooter and I just I can't find myself doing -- job of that question -- from the hip straight and and that's the -- have always. I was just gonna say they were practiced on -- but you're probably will probably should do your job. And that's all part of -- in you know I have a lot of respect for every person every. Pertinent associated with a team in the National Football League and always try to remind myself that I would want in the locker room. But at the same you know you say one thing about a player. And all of -- sudden the agent for life if this if this is easy it's a sport you know that you think some great about the players and they love for the for the rest of their lives so. You can never we'll players beauty you know just ought to do your job the best what you can't and and try to be honest. You guys have so many big games when you with the patriots have so many big games against the -- big wins big losses. What was it like for you when you first worked with Tony Dungy everytime I see him I think of the colts and not the Buccaneers and not that he played with the Steelers a thing of the colts. What was it like with him initially and what's it like now. I think -- it's been pretty cold and pretty much the same means. Either one talked about have been sold five silent quiet dignified but only the very opinionated man. He's. He's is the very respectful man he gets. You know people really look up Foreman he's the same way in which received what to -- with Tony Dungy and have a lot of respect for me very articulate very Smart and knows the game. But he's fit and stuff that. You know I think Rodney here who would they have people looked up all about that but it -- -- is that. It's OK but I about the man I loved working with of these -- so much he's taught -- about. You know certain ways of looking at -- that analog beings and I think he's publicity doing a great job. We're talking -- -- -- -- ready what is your take on what's going on with the game right now we're talking about the the bounty gate with the warlords. They're trying to clean up the game they're trying to resolve the the the that helmet to helmet a contact you're done. That played the game out there pretty dogmatic fact they've redone that I am one of those votes of the dirty player in the league you'd usually when in a landslide. I'm wondering how you feel as you watch the game getting altered quite a bit here. Well I think the obvious leader you know this is really my first time even comment about -- bound indeed -- -- concussions in the all time and and really what in the field to wanted to try and clean up the game they know that. They give a lot of lawsuits would all the different concussions that things of that sort. And they're trying to protect. Not only the players but they're trying to protect your book because -- there and they're gonna get their commitment people looking at the woman obviously what all these. These different got lined up in and followed these cases against the National Football League it is very difficult right now form but. You know what as far bounty gate. It is what it is -- mean you know. I think we -- there and we say okay -- That -- they have let. You know that play physical -- do it does do that but would never have -- ever been part of the defense fourteen that Everett fit that squat and -- You don't knock it here at all as far as let's try to give him a concussion that probability yell out and I think that where. Things have gone too far in camp purposely Glock -- product injures someone. You wanna you wanna or hurting you want you want inflict pain you wanna be it in committee who -- you don't wanna -- -- got career and I think that where it's gone too. Doesn't think NFL -- both ways here they want the they'd love it they love the kids they used it in in many of their production pieces. Would the music behind it ESP NN regular feature running on it every week. The great hits of the game and then when suddenly. We now find out through you know great research. Is that there's a lot of damage being done they suddenly still wanna have the physicality of the game. How'd you mean it's -- to double it for how did you how do you combat that how do you protect players. You know they're they're -- their dormant best job they can't but we get players we have to understand their if you hit 250 to 300 pounder. You know helmet to helmet guess what it's gonna hurt you gonna there's the chance that -- gonna have headaches. Concussions but there's going to be physical damage not just now but later on down a lot -- years old army. It's to get the -- that she looked -- -- when you play in the National Football League you've got to be a complete idiot. Does it sit back. And understand that there's gonna be repercussions when they took -- -- of 34513. Years. It's just it is what it is about what Google's got. I've I've experienced headache and I have experience dizziness and beat these things but I'm not I'm not trying to follow law because. I'm pretty much knew they get what. -- -- that up pretty cult sport and and and guess what it hurt and it's going to be painful when you're gonna have headaches and there's gonna be long term. Consequently. Everything that you've done and that's all part of the game. Have you done anything you see some of these guys you hear so many stories. In Alaska westerners stay out -- -- speculation is that you know maybe juniors -- out. Because of head trauma did some things to himself. When you hear a lot of stories. Do you think like a -- because he -- doctor going to plant from our future how do you handle it being a former players you say it. As you said who played a very physical game. Cuddle up planned for you just you know a lot I explain that -- my wife and I just say there may be in the future. -- situation where you know things may go wrong for. And you know I think they I don't want you feel sorry for me to do that she can't take -- -- give -- the right treatment. And let's move -- that you go in and I explain the term that you know I don't ever force my kid's mother of two boys to play export. If you if you decide you wanna play either smarter than fifty years old had no okay. They can play but you know they decide they don't wanna play that won him I'm not ever fortunate but you know it only so much you can do you just have to live life and and really let the cards fall where they may I mean you know you cooperative get paid a lot of money to play this game. And you -- against -- man it's no question about that in the game he's got the bigger their fat or simply playing more physical and it's gonna be injuries there's no way to avoid it. And you know -- NFL but they're trying to do -- behave if you're intensely -- for somebody did. We're gonna find you look at the suspend you would have it stop that I think that door right thing I think they've got the right thing but cut now. All these physical competitive practices the mini camps and things of that sort because. If I played in it in that time wind they would cut all these back I could -- twenty years. You were fortunate enough as a rookie Q be introduced in -- you're saying out his enthusiasm his passion for football. Are some great quotes I've read from you when you're talking about -- say out just wanna get a sense from your -- of where you were when you heard that the juniors say how took his life in what was your initial reaction. I was at home. And -- just you know doing normal things I think something may be around this time and and someone -- my wife. And you know win it -- -- says it. I had to -- One so this is no way. No way because you and you're such a strong individual he loved life so much no way did he do that in the second facility capable army was. You know what maybe he did hit -- baby. Baby. Because I know all that hit trauma and all that everything that. A personal life do you all the responsibilities. And and junior been such a given person and given so much of himself every want and and being an up and down incorporate some different difficulties. You know what the transition from from football to normal life. So I had really two different emotions but when when I think about it. It it really fed me because I look at a guy who who gave everything up and up themselves each and every day each and every day. It was always about -- helping others you are never hurt them and they know he gave everything all he gave him money he gave this time. And it was just devastating because I felt like we lost such incredible human being and it could have been avoided. So many of his friends that pretty much the same thing that they were they were shocked on the other hand. A lot of them reflected back we have the car accident wood off the cliff in which he claimed he had just fallen asleep. When that happened at that time and there were some speculation. That he might be attempting net take is like did you. Have any thoughts about this at all at the time. Outlook outlook I didn't know what to think to be honest with you because I -- junior had a job I've seen a guy like junior who was that a few truly prove who. What in your job but he offered to a three hours of sleep I know why do you love and I've never. Really heard of junior you know fallen asleep behind we are really I really didn't wanna comment you know come to any conclusions. But. I think -- confused because of that this is not like -- you -- -- a drop off a cliff you've been driving in California for a very long console. You know I had my thought -- and -- that so well you know what you're doing your fitness. State quarry he says that he fell asleep I believe doing it because. That type of person -- Julius pay you the honest person. He never lied to me was always straight up with me and he was you know he was mob buddies so if he's fit that he fell asleep I'll believe them. I can't remember it was it was a former teammate can't remember which one it was but it it was someone who said. That all players that there should be mandatory. Counseling and post football because the tendency of of men. Is to keep it all inside not share how do you feel about that. -- and I think that that you know what might they counseling before you come in counseling. While you're playing football in counseling on the way out and I think NFL needs to do that if you really wanna pick -- players. You have to help these -- about how they help us out. And talked to look at get a professional help. Because it is a big is the big different world out there you go from everywhere you go people catering to you walking in. You know -- people you know. Basically opened up doors for you all of a sudden. You know now you're throughout the game people forget about who you are in the and right now are you trying to establish who you are in this world make your mark what you have money if you don't have money you're trying to make your mark -- trying to. You know make an identity -- make -- stated or make a statement outside of you know you're Jersey number. And it's difficult -- opting in they'll release if they wanna spend the money be spent Monday helped got get counseling talked to god and helped -- get more internships and and transitions. In positions where they can work and they can Glock and get jobs and an intern shipped to make to transition that much easier. And I'm wondering did you do could be very insightful on this for people -- look at -- you're still involved in the game. Talking about it every week we see every week on national TV. You're in a year and a good spot I'm wondering is there any comparison. Even though you still talking about football is there any comparison between what you do now. Analysts had -- fifth accords what you did when you play. But just in terms of camaraderie. Of feeling like you're part of a team is there the competition is there any comparison between which -- now what are we had. And no might be I mean -- -- out of that come out of the loop and you have to when you do what we do want. It's hard to be objective. And still. You know really have a calls -- with the gas that she did she play with or even got out there that you didn't play. With or against because. You know it's it's such. They -- so that the players -- -- -- mallet I'll as a player that was sensitive to a certain degree. Because you very fragile what people saying what people think so. You know you cooperate. You make a comment people all of sudden they don't like you say something about Cincinnati Bengals I'm tired. Did you think he should now all of a sudden between bad things about his blocking. In all the different things so it's very different transition. The one thing I can say. With this job and lot of -- want to broadcast but yet understated. You don't you don't know how all this fingers on last I think you have to have an identity outside. You don't football outside of you know the whole broadcast to what you have to be a normal person when you walk around in life if -- -- normal and you wait in the back a lot of debate can you. You wait in line to going to a restaurant and not get all that BIP treatment mapping to transition is a lot easier. And you have to do another thing you have to save your money now I think to transition a lot easier when you think you might be good to go up in this world. -- former football players you no longer have any money. And I'm telling -- it is a cold world out there forgot that he did have either spent all the money or lost all the money -- bad investment. Don't think Dan Patrick which for a table in any restaurant. -- -- -- Russia. You know it's funny you mention that that if you say something people nature and -- she played for a team that was a lot of jealousy. As you know -- -- spy gate and everything else and there seemed to be he treated. Across the countries are different is that playing for the patriots as opposed to now being economic editor. Well they look at it is right here in the players it's your film here and I'll walk in Philadelphia. And -- aware -- I'll walk in the keynote but the thing about it. You know people that the game days they respect people comeuppance for anybody doing a great job we appreciate honesty. You know and I think they appreciate the fact that I wasn't afraid. You know maybe -- what the patriots a little bit at some things that I saw you know. I tell you that the biggest. I think that the -- all week in and we were down at the Super Bowl and you know I think it helped them to the fact that. A -- that you love me anymore the fourth quarter and I do Tom Brady and and I mean people killed me on Twitter people blocked in. -- here in -- trader you're a sellout is that the other. And I think they went crazy. But you know to make a statement like that I'm not make -- statement is trying to (%expletive) people off or to get attention but it got up and I feel I'm gonna say it. And I'm not gonna do that job they beat you or anywhere else. Unless I believe I'm gonna say what I believe and don't want to force me to say anything because that -- isn't that important to me. If you understand what it. You know because we've seen it they'll have somebody the next you're to have somebody mixture. If I -- a lot I'm glob the way I believe us to go out and and I'm going to be honest with myself with the fans and that's just the way I'm built. When you started they gave Dell did anybody say to you or did you incorporated. Into the broadcast we said the -- I'm gonna have to say. That's -- be honest and genuine bottom I have to say something negative about the patriots aren't gonna have problems on a national broadcast on the way to proceed. Model that was there anything like that but I mean you'll be a complete idiot to sit back and think that every week you -- scope -- patriots and tell them how great they are because they're gonna make mistakes. There often the line in the gonna mess up their bare their wide receiver gonna drop off Tom Brady's going to be awfully you don't have to criticize Bill Belichick eventually they'll make some bad decisions. Every single day and that that the job that the nature to be you have to come out -- to speak from the heart and you have to be respectful Obama's. I the patriots are a Q and in everybody else become a normal person in the whole. It would it was a recruiting pitch particular ground ground. That's that's certainly not entitlement in the year and have to wait in line for a table you -- The last thing that I can say that men and in I love about the fans of New England because. You know I love that honesty and and I love how Smart intelligent defense because know they'll let you know. If you're doing great job they'll let you know if you do a terrible job I mean you remember slaves they remember specific games. And if that's educated fan and you level and and that's what I love it popped up Hilton thought. I'll try -- I'll -- better but it won't play well guess what they'll catch in the back until you that you do a great job you have to love the fact. Is that why does that tell me I sucked every cameras that we drop your papers Monday everywhere. -- -- Probably a group.
