I'll say this for Josh Beckett heels be rare bird. That doesn't care. Other people think about him there are few like him but very very few I'd say. I mean they're generally out apologetic for chicken gate and your -- in September correct just one note this -- -- -- -- a little niche was and he had to know. And Boston and by the way. -- thirst it was -- day off. Atlas or maybe have a day off. And too much media played at 930 the magic convinced he invented yet technicals or Lendl match no singular I hate the singular and they should have answers at the end and he had to know that missing a start. Having a sore -- and going to play golf even if he didn't think was going to hurt him would look at it didn't seem to dissuade him from that now. Now you don't care. Joining us some AT&T hotline. Man from WEEI dot com rob Bradford -- rob how are you. I -- ever bought me for ways and to -- -- ever. That's an important. My wife right next to me like in order already are on a get to that the second that -- it is our assumption correct rob. I think here at Miller who deeply cares what they are -- people in the club out. Manager at the general manager. Over the people care about him. And what you hear about what they expect and this goes back to. This spring training and I think that was -- constant theme with them he noted that he knelt by. Yeah he well -- applaud your marriage or the general manager and teammates were on board with what he was doing. Then that was OK with it I think honestly got probably use. Well one report says and I don't know whether this is true or false that he was told he would miss his next -- told Wednesday. That he would miss his next scheduled start. Beckett believing it was fine to make the start and almost like he was forced. -- that start you know was that against his will did he want to pitch and they said no we're shut you down for one turn. Well I -- they did when he caught up your thought he was ground. That that they came and it -- my old. Or not but you would think that you probably want to make art he. Probably for the best though. On that that's probably whenever they are or you're citing -- probably let that I'm done. How do you think he handles this -- I assume tonight he always talks efforts darts at these early cooperative and what coming he's gonna get asked about this how what -- his reaction be able to be like we heard from brought in from others that it's too. Pitchers do on their off days. You know I don't know I think there -- welcome back you know how he -- thing in regard to what. Or do you know what the -- humid that the -- GM manager and he -- So there. It was practically here. Confronted about it by whoever. And there's -- -- that or do you let argue you -- you let down your nation I think you'll -- that. Other than you know whether it up media person -- in court and you know I could you ever. It. The manager the general manager and he made very you know like that the candidate. They feel it move on in it and you'll think. Well he'll be asked and he knew no one else they already have our goals in the had no comment. I think I'm -- only neither of looks very good though obviously back it is hurt missed those are the Colts not hurt. Is a mess right now he's the worst pitcher in American League. Weeks mostly just. You -- pass on it because it's his chance to get away and and get his mind off the game that kind of things that we were. -- if you -- -- where you know maybe differ from what a lot of people. But it's focusing on our -- for a second you are as far as we know he's not hurt there's no injury and ball when you talk about off day. I've heard that last what eight or are just very well you know on their off days are here they go play golf all the problem here it's been. On them in my mind it's been -- going playing golf Rick if you get aggravated injury playing golf. But in regard to our -- Well I don't care if he's struggling you you'll have got -- what you can repair workers and make a deal where you're tired -- in order like that's how it happened about how I. It's so it's and are very RB -- -- well local and I know it you're not hurt and if you wanna go play golf regard quite buckled early dog problem. What -- you think at odds with our Colts he can go with that it could go to Fort Myers he could stay in the rotation and give up five earned runs every single time. What is the solution what's the next step. I think -- -- and obviously if he wanted to do the next hour by the you have arms like -- Atlanta around here are. You know but I think -- very good about my city in the world tricky situation because there -- the waiver procedure that -- go through. Gentleman agreement that he's not going to be -- -- by a couple Dicey and and go -- favorite yet. -- and they do make up more. And -- are quite a bit but we're all. -- and -- That we have to also remember that day. If you want this team to have any -- that that that the regularly hear this stuff up or. -- one of the biggest problems. If the Colts have not. Or -- you get here -- -- them with an -- or you're not you're not advocate here the kind of values that you would be cool to go and rob Bradford. What happens Monday when Youkilis if and when you clothes comes off the disabled list to see immediately go back to third base and reclaim his starting job. Yeah I think so that you play and it'll probably go out there and now it out of the talk of what are you. Care it's not like you're gonna keep up on the roster you know we. Then he. He's not play the -- Neal -- already heard that even though. We were -- -- with images of armor plate what you're doing you may 91 by body down I'm by. -- we go to play hockey game and they've been out to get open out of what you -- as well you know -- -- because. If you go marked now your book goes back a lot of you -- up and produced no -- error out in the covets pitching change. But right now I think that movement. So my guess is that their hope would be Youkilis get back in the starting out in the in the starting lineup. Produces he showcase they can trade him and middle Brooks comes up -- out about it. I think that's probably pretty accurate -- If you get a W let -- get on there that they get on a pair also and they get back in it. You know maybe. More ball and you know until. I know that middle Brooks with the flavor of the of the decade and you you're going to be a very good player but we also realizing that we feed it -- -- stroke. Where we're at right here before I -- -- from those guys. Argue it. The adjustments -- you leave your cards are you are -- get get the Obama -- for the first five games of the tires the and you are. But John I think that there that you are probably a pretty real. -- question do you think there's much of a chance that Beckett gets booed before he throws a pitch tonight I look at comes out after three and -- -- the gives up five or six runs he will be fired the first match you think you'll hear. Yeah I think so or we restart the he is no order for game at Fenway. And by the fact of the matter is gonna be ready and they need it got back to the form and and they are going back -- -- -- that way you know he did he. Pitched it and in my and then everyone out all the you're -- I don't know you know if your question -- probably I don't know. It's been this whole thing if that. The percentages terrible terrible for him the only because the actual in game -- because of everything that happened before right hand. And that's the reality. Any guess as rob and how they handle. On the passing of Carl beam will there be silence at our tonight. I I you know I heard yet talked about it and it'll it'll be a great thing to do I don't know but it -- You know there in -- that they know exactly what do they usually come grew whether I have no idea what it you know Kobe net you Hewitt. There is effort or people there is that there are very few people who is passionate. Position in life. Clearly while. Doing and then that's great great day so I. Plus you commit to the meaty game in the let me -- for you and that is what I think that there. We -- New York is great. Cleveland Indians hottest team in baseball, yet remain last in attendance May 19, 2013 By AJ Kaufman 6 Comments There’s a scene in Major League where Bob Uecker, portraying the radio voice of the Indians, bemoans, “In case you haven’t noticed, and judging by the attendance you haven’t, the Indians have managed to win a few here and there, and are threatening to climb out of the cellar.” Well, that was nearly 25 years ago and fictional, but today’s reality is that Cleveland has won 17 of its last 21, and currently tops the AL Central with a mark of 25-17. No one in the majors is better than the Indians in the past month (20-7). That’s great news. The bad news, however, is the Tribe somehow remain in the MLB cellar when it comes to attendance. How can this be? The fact that I wrote on this same topic almost to the day last year – when only Tampa Bay drew fewer fans than Cleveland - may be even more troubling. Though roughly 34,000 watched a walk-off win Friday night against Seattle, perfect weather and free caps weren’t enough to draw more than 36,000 Saturday and Sunday combined. What did the Indians do in those tilts? They nabbed another walk-off win on Saturday, then the Indians crushed the great Felix Hernandez Sunday behind Justin Masterson, arguably the AL’s best pitcher right now. Fun fact: The Indians have already faced eight Cy Young Award winners in 2013: Bartolo Colon, R.A. Dickey, Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Jake Peavy, David Price, Justin Verlander and Hernandez. They have won seven out those eight matchups. Simply astounding. This offseason, the much-maligned Indians front office finally made a legitimate attempt to improve the team through free agency. I’m not talking an Ubaldo Jimenez-like trade, but rather smart acquisitions that brought veterans Mike Aviles, Michael Bourn, Jason Giambi, Scott Kazmir, Brett Myers, Mark Reynolds, Drew Stubbs and Nick Swisher to Cleveland. In addition to being a fantastic place to watch a game due to great egress and ingress, with extremely affordable tickets, the best promo lineup anywhere, Jacobs Field boasts overall, cooler, less muggy summer weather than most Midwestern locales. The team also lowered beer and hot dog prices to $4 and $3 respectively. What other professional stadium in any sport offers that? I have visited 28 of the 30 current Major League Baseball stadia, and few top The Jake when all angles are considered. I say that as a baseball fan, not an Indians fan. As for the putative “economic” angle, these are the same people who spend insane amounts of money to watch terrible football every fall and show up in decent numbers for putrid basketball in the winter. Irrespective of season length, those sports charge up to 10 times the price for a ticket, and the atmosphere isn’t half as fan-friendly as baseball. I understand fans’ lack of willingness to get on board to some degree. A decent recap of Cleveland’s decade of “rebuilding” can be read here and the team suffered a horrific collapse last August. However, in addition to all the benefits of attending games at Jacobs (now Progressive) Field, fans should also realize the team has potential and often exceeds preseason aspirations at any point without warning. Cleveland hosts the rival Detroit Tigers — heavy favorites to repeat as AL Central champs — Tuesday and Wednesday nights before hitting the road. The temperature should be pleasant at first pitch each evening so you’d expect The Jake to be full to watch the best hitter on the planet right now — but don’t count on it.

More from this showBy and large, the focus of development in the minor leagues is on players. Still, there is a developmental path for coaches and managers in the farm system, as is evident from the fact that the previous two managers of the Red Sox' Triple-A affiliate in Pawtucket -- Torey Lovullo (2010) and Arnie Beyeler (2011-12) are now both on the Red Sox' big league coaching staff. They share their insights about the differences between player and coaching expectations in Triple-A vs. the majors, while discussing professional development from the perspective of former minor league managers who aspire to similar positions in the big leagues.
