Welch nuclear winner in Montreal. Canadians -- imploding it's actually snowing up here which I was on accustomed to this winner but. The rodents have got to get it back together and in a hurry in this game one of the six game road so here we --
I don't -- I just want to cross. Hello -- I think. Glad that -- that earlier Jackson Montreal and how Long Will it take them rip. Not true god forbid that so we -- delighted for not let us here tonight wind didn't get it -- four seconds the first the first fifteen shark and can't help themselves get did you act like.
Twenties or Stanley Cup is enough all right enough. And there's there's like three or four lifetimes is suffering right in that.
They're up there battling with their assistant coaches are let's talk about last night. Discouraged with what you saw with the Bruins or are we looking at a team right now that's. Version of a little so the Bruins last year built on the back end with a phenomenal goaltender.
The upbeat and as I said in my in my available 22 report on the -- morning Eric wanted Mike. -- left -- mark yesterday. The the Rangers. Have that thoroughness of solidity in their team that's got a ski area if you think you're gonna win another Stanley Cup because. Nobody for the Rangers yesterday had an unbelievable game there was nobody that you set off he's got to come back to -- That was a team that was just sold solid from top to bottom. You had third line guys pull out playing the Boston third line guys yet. You know Tim Thomas played a pretty decent game not great but pretty decent. And Lundqvist was way better. That was just the kind of team that that still looks like it can win a championship not saying it will. But the Eastern Conference race is over almost the Rangers -- Hindenburg here because. They are nine points ahead of the brawl and they are ten points ahead of their closest division rival. So it's old I mean that the Eastern Conference race is over it's just a matter of the Rangers stand LP and stayed in their own. And abroad making repairs and such a way that they can content and hope they can get through a couple rounds of playoffs and and maybe meet the Rangers in the Eastern Conference final but that is that it certainly not to be taken for granted.
Or Jackie tether that raiders look like a team that can win a championship the Bruins look like that team six weeks ago. How do you recapture that team or or can you recapture that team excuse me without. Without without making a deal.
Everybody has to play after his capabilities the defenseman as a group have to stop making silly mistakes have to stop jumping past the hash marks in the attacking -- When it isn't there you talked you hear about. And it -- coaches all the time talking about well we want to get our defensemen involved we want and the pinch but they have to make good decisions they have to decide. When it's time to go all the they're not gonna expose themselves. In the back and that you're gonna give up 211 or three on -- right back up fight. And too -- that's what happened to the -- that happened yesterday and four on four situation work or will jumped up. And the Bruins turned the -- overturns it with two on ones the Rangers excuse it flawlessly. The Bruins were a little flat footed on the penalty kill and the Rangers made him take -- automated terrific just across the Callahan. The old -- in the states a port -- playoff games and when you run up against the team. That is as tight as solid as the Rangers are defensively. You just not going to be able to win by making those kinds of mistakes so so first of all the defense of -- have to get on the same page. They have to concentrate for sixty minutes and not make silly mistakes. And also you know it's not all his -- And now there are some other circumstances but David -- he's not playing like a five million dollar a year player he's just got to raise his game period.
To your knowledge Jack have the Bruins have had have they had any type of meaning. Players only meeting all players coaches meeting. About Tim Thomas any airing of grievances any let's get on the same page stuff has that happened in the last couple weeks.
I have not heard about it -- I -- all but certain that. A smaller group of players or some individual leaders on the team. Have spoken with them because that's the style of this team I can't believe that it would go more than a day or two. Without having been addressed. By. Somebody in the core leadership of the team because that's where this team -- this is -- very. Closely knit a group of players despite their personal differences they do communicate well. And they get it out they get it out in the -- and that's part of how they learn how to become a champion last year. I don't think that has slipped and so I'd be surprised if if that hasn't been addressed. And again I'm not sure you can say that because the phone today a cause -- that. Thomas' political stands that are public or -- public or however you want to describe them. Have a direct effect on the on -- Output of this team but they certainly have not helped so. So there's a factor there and this is a time when the broad have to focus it's gotta be all about hockey and all about winning and -- playing sixty minutes. And not taking any parts of any shift off then and anything that accuses the focus. It's a negative for this game.
Wasn't that long ago Jack we were sitting here talking about how different how much better they are the offensive end. Than they were a year ago they were scored six co -- at night at at will now I understand last night. On tight spaces. 42 shots and add another twenty that were probably blocked. Which you can look at Nashville you can look at some of these other games now where they -- space to operate. And this is not look like this -- high scoring offense we saw here a month ago what else happened.
At the risk of sounding like a guy he's chuck collecting -- there's brewed up a couple of Julian. We saw proof last year that if the Bruins play. -- layered. Responsible defense the offense flows naturally think about it if you're an attacking player for the -- if you're going into the attacking zone. If you are confident that what's behind you is going to be. Rock solid and airtight and forgive any mistake that you may make. In that part of the ice where you can take the most risk and at a -- destroy up a little bit because the pluck 285. Feet from your goal. Then you're willing to take more risk you're willing to go into the seams and maybe maybe. You get knocked down or are you get taken out of play but you're not so worried about what's going on behind you. If there are holes in the defense of its own subconsciously and maybe even consciously. You don't let it rip that much in the attacking its own. My guess is that their lack of defense of solidity. It's affecting their heads when they go on the attack and that's why you're not seeing the kind of creativity from the brought. And also when you're playing well defensively you're getting good break out -- moving through the neutral zone with speed and your putting your opponent. In a more defensive position and making them make a decision between two bad choices there which is what happens in an odd man rush when you're excuse while.
You mentioned Rangers earlier the Bruins more talented than the Rangers.
Manfred Mann I'm not sure. Because -- yesterday we saw art and need him off -- supporting player. Executed two on one about a told you can't. It's pretty close it's pretty close the Rangers are a different team in that they don't have. One standout stud defenseman but when you have a guy like Dan Girardi playing shut down the as well he does. You see a guy like Brian McDonough who is maybe the the -- all the Johnny boy chuck and unsung kind of guy on the younger side. And people rim really might not have a good idea of all its capabilities. McDonnell look so good playing next to a guy as consistent as Girardi. Really what it is is John Sorrell said -- fall meet is the way to go. And they have bought in 100%. And that's what we -- the brought down the stretch and by the way is this is not a fait accompli I'm not saying they're gonna planets. A parade down the canyon euros in Manhattan. You know the Rangers got a long long way to go in the regular season. And then they got four rounds to get through the playoffs and the Bruins could be heard in the piece of but the -- just have to raise their game at levels we saw. Earlier this winter and last spring in order to beat a team as good as the Rangers.
We just mr. Q here you mentioned the canyon of heroes in Manhattan can -- Manhattan again everything.
Had a shot figure you're only want sitting at a time.
don't want sitting at a time kind aren't so if they're not as talented as as the Rangers doors close it did it give it to coin -- maybe. And you can't let that thing play out on nice if they happen to -- and Eastern Conference finals. Or maybe maybe you look at it your -- drilling is that got to make your deal here's your rally would you make a trade.
I would try did add but not subtracting and that's pretty much what surely has said. This team has such a good solid -- they've got the cap under control. You don't want to blow up the plan. By going to get a guy like Rick Nash and giving up what you would have to give up to get Rick Nash. You -- steer clear Jeff Carter who just has totally under performed at whatever five and a half million or whatever he's making. You've got to be really careful about going for big star who's gonna be way overpriced as we get closer and closer to the deadline. On February 27. That said if you can find ways to add your team and make it better without giving up. That much or anything from your current roster yet you do that idea how do you do that should help well eat you. You have to give up fix or get somebody interested in somebody from Providence where the Pickens or rather slim right now. But. You you can't. I would I would be surprised if the Bruins made a large deal because. The core of this team is really really good. If Nathan Horton is able to recover you'd probably take your chances by standing pat and seeing what they got. If Orton isn't able to recover and we -- won't know that by the deadline. I'd still be hesitant to make a deal that gonna bring an -- guy who's gonna screw up your salary cap personally I'm I'm hoping that the brought in under way to find their game during the six game road trip. That they can right the ship that they can get back on the beam and they can make a huge play for Brian Souter in the offseason because if you can imagine. -- by the way is going to be in a restricted free agents they get a free shot out of they can think about think about these he cares about Chara and Seidenberg on your first -- Souter and rookie Doug Lee Hamilton on your second pair and that parents and either McQuay. Or boy chuck on your third pair that's that's -- take my chances with his.
Pretty strong back that well if you look at it now you said it is not gonna catch the Rangers. It pretty much get the division wrapped up because they've got like five games in hand on on Ottawa in second place. So you kind of know where you -- and yet you're at that point of the season where you gave it kinda hit the wall here yet you know what you need to do. Four for the playoffs I would think if you're surely you've got to do something don't --
If you wanna. Shake it up a little bit certainly you wanna. -- any complacency. That you might sense in the room although I I don't sense that I just that's -- a lack of ability to focus.
About -- focused now when you're not chasing anything -- you -- say okay we've got to get better for April. Any -- you've seen all these things have played out before you pretty much know where you're going to -- you got an idea what's going on right now.
Yup and and you do have this semi luxury if you wanna put it that way of of being just about -- you're gonna be the second seed. Wouldn't mind seeing today in a charcoal itself out you know a wouldn't mind him saying you know I've got to be better I can't have games like I had against the Rangers get. In -- handle the puck is an elementary mistake it's something that you you've known not to do since juniors and north and before that only all the way back to -- week. You know it was of that belt off is like for the second gold I was I was a big momentum swinger Kazaa came so late in the first period but. He's got to have he's he's got to be better he's got to be one of the best two or three defenseman in the entire National Hockey League yet been out for two or three week. These -- the times the leaders have to lead it's a six game road trip. The Bruins need to leave some marks on some of the teams the way the Rangers what the mark on them yesterday otherwise -- just little holding pattern and everybody's got huge question marks over their heads. Until it comes playoff --
I still think that's a scary part of that the range user or that could not and I'll leave you work with this question. Like what we talked about Tim Thomas and now onto orthodox he is between the pipes one course place so deep back how was he able to get away with a --
Incredibly quick he battled as hard as Thomas does but he's just incredibly quick if you look. It you know I recommend people go on NHL dot com and look it up Hendrick Lundqvist video and you'll just see. Save after save after save his right on the goal and watch how many times this guy makes a little snapped move -- may be only a a three or four inch movable Laker armor shoulder something like that. But he's like that fastball hitter who actually wipes out the chalk on the back of the batter's box. And he can barely get to that fastball all the guys open it up there around 9798. As a closer. But he still manages to rip it down the right field line appease a right handed hitter and still drop it in their for an extra base hit and and that's what Lundqvist that he's just he's an astonishingly great athlete period as Tim -- but he chooses to play the clock. Which is much possible time as he can and he made a couple days -- tips yesterday I just more stuff he's.
That that run they upbeat yet Freda -- up your career -- that run midway in the second period with the Bruins were shot after shot after shot parliament it was unbelievable what do I thought that was the turning. For the game but they're the type of team you can see it. After the penalty on -- score that first goal what you get a goal or two behind the Bruins have not been did limited team that's come and welcome back. You'll get a gold -- two down to the Rangers and -- they are just impossible. To get back into game.
Really aren't I think the Rangers out 471 and two when scoring the first goal is that that's that's absurd -- you thought you -- great front runners they are and you know what let's play at the Rangers. And you and you know I. -- look to blow up New York -- out on top honors he has a city -- cities and one where your -- about it is that. I really just don't like very much about it but the Rangers play the game the right way to really do they hit hard they hit. Clean they ask no quarter they give no quarter. There and on this team hard working team they stand up for each other. And and that's the kind of team the -- wanna see dole long distance -- all the way to the Eastern Conference final where they can have an epic series against. A comeback in broad scheme that would just be a tremendous command.
Project goes straight talking to you enjoyed the the wonderful joys of the city of Montreal right.
