Had a conversation but Dustin Pedroia has brought you by Salem five back home of gold star saver for kids way of Dustin Pedroia. And -- at Wellesley hospital helping you feel better faster also by. Boston Lazar if it's basic. It's Boston. As the Detroit or you -- You know I'm -- well and as always say destined. If you're not hustling to get enough.
Exactly merit. -- come a lot about so you you still sitting at home. All are actually it wouldn't be sitting at all America ever that are out. Well or start a movement around the house what are you going down when he go to Florida. And then. In moving around social.
much that we can't even in the cell phone yet. You you cut out for second got to repeat that.
Yeah -- we lost -- he'd cut out they cut out CN call it easy he's ready not sit around he's just the these over the stride again guys if we can. If we get them and they don't Dustin Pedroia -- himself Orleans. -- mortar round just he's not done that around in his era stays stationed Ares. -- and he's -- around I think people in America -- few things. I don't think it's a bit it's a big deal that dramatically in the dropped. Like 35%. Alas it's got five years of age dropped quite a bit a lot of people have the of the -- which connected -- Internet a lot of people do that. Cheaper and you can make. Calls all over the place. Felt -- something you looked into for yourself. Covers up and gone a little boy. And I'm. How did that we'll get him back on the idea on the line a bunch of things that. We wanna talk to this by the way it will be the last time we talked to -- until we talked -- sometime during the course of the season because she's. He's gotten serious and get down to work here. Once he gets out there to to Florida noticed that guys have showed up very early there Josh Beckett was in town. Yesterday we've got just the back on the line when you away heading out.
He got what are what are you heading to Florida. Dot I leave Monday okay -- marte get there I can and should -- late at night so a lot and -- and I would get out there.
I was gonna say this has been. Again -- trying to get back. Little rehab work so -- probably go little craze right now actually go out there and and try it out real game situations.
Yeah before I put a lot of my monitoring program and -- you know I'm ready to get down there are quite small and got their -- you know it's going to be on. I'm excited and want our Butler game so I would go out there.
You know a lot of people upset about it Dustin. Even though you weren't the official captain of the Red Sox and haven't been the official count on the Red Sox. A lot of people consider you the unofficial captain and then one of the leaders of the team we don't know if Jason Varitek is going to be on the team or not and he's always had -- on his Jersey. Are are you opposed to being the captain of the team I mean how do you feel about that is that something that would interest you are not.
All -- also got -- mom and I really think about it I -- not my job Roth earned. And then play again in the right way in and then lead by example in and do the things. They are not supposed to do -- on and that's it's an honor that that people mention me has that been a leader being one of the guys. That that guy can look to for supporter or requests you know that question economy. -- not all great but we need. When he point five liters to win a championship mean everybody Saddam. To know what their role is and know how to do it and now you know I think that's the biggest thing in 2007 -- get a bunch of guys that. That cared about each other and then we're all lead by example it wasn't just just you know the -- I'd like not and that's what ultimately mean in. And ALCS got three at the one we got that character not to come back in and winning when the World Series so. -- on the right direction caring about each other and everything you're gonna you gonna accomplish your goal.
I let me ask you about their caretakers -- are showing up down there right now in Fort Myers. And the media is already starting. At -- because some guys have talked about what happened in September and I listen -- a I think the whole chicken and -- thing has been vastly overplayed but they clearly were some issues. That prevented this team from having the type of September you needed to get into post season play and forget about actually having to address it. With the media. Are you guys going to have to address address all of this. Amongst yourself cause a lot happened after September having somebody obviously stitched to the media. The beer in the -- and that obviously came out of the club off the you guys have to -- that internal conversation. So that you get on the same page and you develop what you were just talking about the character.
All of auto -- at all I -- I've never been a part of something like you know I mean. You know it's got some of that will be interesting we get there but. To be honest with you had to say if it's some it's -- on our team player what was saying things about other -- Then you know that that that. That's a problem you know and and I honestly I can't see any of our guys. -- out other teammates from that that not that over the line you know it. -- you know I don't know -- water but what was going honor. Throughout their source why you know it is as far as I'm concerned I'm shown up ready to -- it I don't care about. Any other would be -- on the media or none of that stuff said that that's not gonna affect our go about my job they have -- about last year. I mean I'm just gonna say let some -- 2001 of the 2012. Years. Well all right for that -- it. You know ability archives I'm I don't know I don't really care what the outcome on your help this team win and -- out -- too so. I'll turn the page.
I hear what you're saying and -- you you know we talked about this many times before you're probably gonna go out there and do what you normally do. Anyway and I do believe that you write about the media stuff a lot of that is for show. Guys will say certain things to the media to make themselves look better somebody else worse but. If this happened to me. At that at my work place.
I would and it got out and get into that at all that's right. I want want to know I want wanted to know Dustin. Howard got out and how private stuff for happening you know what happened to the clubhouse stays in the clubhouse. And how did something like that get out it would (%expletive) me off and the first thing I would do -- try to find out who did it now he's your teammate.
If it if it happened more than -- teammate and you don't want the media get involved and because that does nothing to gain by doing that. But I would think in currently you guys would wanna be able to get together to say.
We can't do this stuff.
And try and only work it out amongst yourself isn't that something that maybe has got to be said by somebody.
Yeah I would say I mean we get down on -- firm believer in. Everybody is equal importance to help your team when -- championship doesn't matter you're. The best player on the field or if if your your clubhouse and in the back or your security guard in the back. You know those guys are bet those guys go play a role in helping -- where you know also. When it fall apart he can't have everybody. Are not each other and saying that's guided this insane and I got that not where. Some are saying that that I've read that come out is that all the security guy it. Station whatever was saying that you saw in. Some of the guys go out there and Kendrick appear that. You know that -- that the market is -- often at all and I'll definitely deal with that. You know conduct that's the part that whoever wrote about it at all -- security guards on our installed security guards they'll -- Go get hot dog some you know hold all -- this to our office. But and that cannot I can't I can't picture one of our guys. You know saying saying bad things about each other through the media that. But that's not something that that that we pride ourselves -- will work team we wanted to team news team and dom result the together.
You found out what you guys did did you play with a.
I mean not I would I would definitely be frustrated and and and talk to them about it I mean not I don't see that. -- it's it's ultimately that one of our guys we would be something like that even now. I mean it was a it was a bad year and don't -- Iraq and we that we had played very well and talk and stretching all that. You know like I can't see any of our guys. You know going to the media -- things about other other teammates you know that that that -- is that's not baseball you know that's that's. Like professional wrestling or something you know that it's not not off the Red Sox --
Well what are you expected from spring training here we've heard some some whispers that Bobby Valentine. Obviously inexperienced manager. Is think about adding in some wrinkles that he picked up in Japan. Any hint of that Dustin or you just gotta go there and be surprised.
The all of -- Marshall and ready to get ready to work I mean I'm not you know on our I'm. The type of player that I do what I told me that you know if they wanted to do something you know -- try to go out there but my mind to it in there and try to execute it well. You know all -- I'm I'm ready for -- in a draw I mean much earlier it got dark suit so. I you know I think whatever he picked up in Japan it's not going to be that different at the same game that got to. They got stroke play event squared up -- got to make plays so you know whatever whatever he's got four on sure that as a team you know we're not rhetorical.
Check it out your favorite tool that at least that's how you describe him rob Bradford writes about it today and apparently he's gonna be no downtime. You guys are going to be bouncing from station to station to station. And they'll be no down time. Something he picked up in Japan.
It blew right out of it I remember there being a lot of downtime last year but yeah however man with but it whatever he's got or -- stood.
Think guys. Do you think spring training is too long had a lot of guys -- and after six weeks give me out here -- me out of I was ready. Two or three weeks ago how to you view it.
You know what I actually think it's perfect I'm -- without -- guy the more AB's I get the more comfortable I get up there. You know later in the year if not throughout the season I -- It doesn't matter I mean I'm going to be better you heard about I haven't heard about the same thing at 600 about during the season and then 300 so the more about second game. You know the better off I'm going to be courtesies and calm in also. -- that bother them much I mean those are a lot of the -- that -- was stopped at the beginning yet secure a right and get on the same page early. You know it it it actually makes it pretty far not -- hope that we can do that right we get there and get things --
Different is -- how do you treated and what pace do you have do you look at. At the at the period of time during spring training and course you're you're dealing with -- different pitchers -- coming in at different times in the game than they normally award. In a regular game so it's really not a game condition do you treat.
I'm in the first part target when you step and there are any -- our own guys that would cater on -- part that call. But the first you know my first game about that stuff and I think it just like I do the regular season. You know the the difference is I'm on I'm just not ready yet you know my timing off. Are you trying to trying to find the sweet spot of the barrel and and now you know you're you're -- yourself against the get back into it after having 34 months off so. It up our stuff but on the more reps you get the more backseat is more comfortable you are. And the more you know breaking ball see your changeup that stuff like that the more your body starts adjusting to the dispute in the -- all excited to go out there and I can't wait.
You know it's funny you talk about the offseason program and you getting ready and being in great shape to have to start spring training wasn't that long ago in -- 2030 years ago. When you guys which show for the first spring training and be like forty pounds overweight. And you know you wonder what the hell they did. -- season could you ever imagine try to be ready for opening day if you showed up you know bloated twenty pounds overweight and the first day of spring training.
Yeah I mean he'll be up. -- mean you'd you know I. I'm not in great shape right now but I mean everyone else says he can't he can't train yourself for that turn him -- a lot of standing -- a lot of you know doing things that you're not used to over remark and -- worked out probably more than anybody in and still I'll be sort the first couple days because you're just doing movements that you know you don't normally do training in and doing your your your conditioning speed stuff from. You know that based on movement -- chase the ball in -- look at it your your body's just trying to get that ball and it'll do anything to get itself. It was a little mock LB sore but I couldn't matches on out. You know twenty pounds overweight haven't worked out -- out -- to get in the -- condition. --
They used to smoke cigarettes there are no. Like golfers felt that I was a bit of first guy you hustle and -- to Fort Myers Ellsbury.
No I you know I put -- all my -- and I just got a text from him there was a picture of the basketball group they'll slam down the floor. And he sent me a picture matches it's that there are finally found a group you could dunk on the -- got to be kidding me. It's got to go on your feet and -- troll every on every five minutes now run for mayor I don't know he's ignored. And he's seventy pitches like that. Are you kidding me he was over and get --
It was on the today you know a short jokes they -- they got and they got it was on the floor and he said he can finally you can throw it you can throw down on this --
Yeah I'm not on a cross between Nate Robinson jumping ability and Steve order -- where it. All. --
Nate Robinson. I do I want what do you do with. It a platoon situation at shortstop how different is is they're two different guys. They have. Different skill set defensively. How does that. How does that. Work in your game every single day when you might have a different guy playing at shortstop.
I think it is just being with them more. Both got more -- you know we're gonna pick go out how to ground ball this spring training it's our reps in and I got to be used to go to both guys and it's it's going to be a challenge for me it's a -- out there that I mean it's going to be -- in notable gonna get used to each other and you know we're gonna make sure up the middle where it will where the best we can be so. And at -- a lot of -- and we're we're definitely going to put the time so long and because.
You set goals for yourself at the beginning of the season when you sit around here in the last few days before you take off you have in your mind what. You wanna do this year. Yeah.
I mean our -- alone I turn on sports center to see. The Boston Red Sox you know be in the front highlight you know they have a championship team and they do their thing I want I want I want to -- me well I'll go -- So that that that that was my goal it's the won the World Series and you know we we we can definitely. We -- the talent and the mindset to do that so we got to go out there and not stay healthy and play the game recollect.
There's a tissue off a little bit or make you work harder when you do churn on ESPN and a lot of people to sit there saying boy the Red Sox didn't do an awful lot here in the offseason out of they make themselves better.
pretty good player you know that I think we have a great team. -- I mean not that not doing a lot that that's a question not for me but. I mean I I think we have a great team -- you know where we could solve etiquette on the saint agent. And getting going early you know and it's going to be far on the on the side like and what you -- on merit. At start yelling at the media is not only is Robert Poole basically all you guys are.
I. See no illusions Pakistan for giving -- the practice in the offseason. Of -- rip and us so that you can be ready to go down there and ripped the media as you know. Already old are you ready for sure you're ready. Right or. Through our Arsenal -- ready for shot SE right now I'm going to take his and I really do our. Are some tools better than others.
Yeah I mean I yeah I mean it just like I'd like hammer. Cameras solid tool than in any got some -- never heard of mean there's there's all sorts schools. Oh I -- yeah there are some cool -- but then there's some Archie.
Got to wait it out. Good luck to those guys -- him done at -- it was a blast with a in the offseason as as we always do. You're an awful lot of fun idea. And I'm glad you're in great shape I hope you have -- a tremendous season and show will be targeted during the course of the season -- have a great spring. And we'll talk to down -- Our guys out on -- got good you to guard -- Elizabeth Dustin Pedroia. Right here on the bench.
