He's -- new bones it's. You moved Runyan and video talking all things media we knows no matter how do. -- WEEI. Dot com. And welcome to another edition of out of bounds on the phone got studio we have the trader -- clicks and SI dot com. Not too bad so. Get right out -- Rob -- Now the -- Carmona got game and age you know.
That whole thing. As separate second important view is that like to the light bulb go -- for this kind of you know -- again how you react to that initially -- it's gonna be good for hot clicks.
It's sort of a double edged sword I mean it's it's great. It's it's phenomenal it's a perfect item it's a perfect storm -- clicks you know -- get a little pop culture -- rob blow it. The sports connection and so. It is a perfect -- click I don't. I wish he would have broken the news a little early that day just because he did it later that -- sort of scrambling. To bottom I mean now -- with Twitter being what it is and you know it's. Detergent. -- for content basically so as soon as -- broke things happen and I sort of funny tweet gone down. It's. Like yeah I've got about just put a little compilations got a bit you know it takes time and you don't want to miss any good ones and you wanna be able to go through the -- so. It's one of those things where I have to be quick and you know sometimes that. Is -- always the best thing but it worked out well that day there at -- exotic -- it would believe him -- We actually have a photo of well she was in the background match yet but I kind of photo problematic -- the colts had so they -- that all came together very nicely.
Breaking news our Rob Lowe I think you want some reaction that John Karr was getting from that remake of the some saint elmo's fire --
How great it is yeah I mean there's crazy -- part it was a huge thing last week remaking the Tebow. Which that can give us -- haven't had problem this week so. And those like cattle book blood it almost fire personal to some.
The Joseph refit them move -- opera now.
I did I like their mobile -- More than about last night -- such as Rob -- flexed but idyllic scene almost fire remember around. You know so dramatic when he locked himself in the courtroom trying to kill himself and had a break candidate was cold and phenomenal.
Apart we changed like when lyric and that song which had never really understood how to get so much play. The feeling the fact that someone like that kind of goes viral to a degree I mean. What does that say about the Internet culture event.
Well I don't think the -- cultures sort of react to anything and enjoyed anything that's creative. And you know it's sort of you know we've got a lot of there's a lot of -- get remade in parity but you know. The fact it's been almost fires just this one hit wonder type songs. -- an obscure eighties staying in you know. That's sort of made it I think kind of funny for everybody cause you know this isn't coming -- that this is the guy it was a strong -- So anyway I don't think we've seen that before -- That's what made that you know prequel story.
It part of you gotta feel bad for par. All he can pick I love extra mustard obviously and hot clicks in general. Because of the stuff you find the obscure stuff you find. Yeah I've read that you have over 200 sites bookmark. What's the best sports blog think that we don't know about.
The question about it. -- there's so many. That you might not know that I mean.
I mean the main ones obviously like the big leads.
I use this site called Larry Brown sports a lot tougher and from started. Quirky stories he does a really good job.
So is that -- is that L -- making -- Larry Brown field coaches that I would actually so I don't know maybe I don't know. You have -- running dialect of these do you develop accurately do you talk to Jason act MacIntyre or. You know. AJ do area oh well all those guys a dirty kind of like keeping distance arm has that let me.
I know site I know some more than others I mean they've had there's some blocks of balls. Convention I can mention about the right -- sort of meeting get together. But then the last few years they've had a before that I've got two of them so I've gotten to meet a lot of bloggers and writers and and stuff like that soaked and so you know. Good relationship with input from most of them I mean I talk you know -- know AJ threw. Linking to him I mean the two we don't really talk often and I mean Jason little email every now and again it's something going on. Oh Twitter you sort of get to know everyone. Com. Whether he wants or not so he's.
Have have any of those guys that have been mad at something and because usually here's kind driving traffic towards blogs as any blogger. And you got India like a few that we may not know about or is it just generally just you you kind of scratching their back anyway.
I mean I would just doesn't. I'm sure there are plenty of people and blogs and sites out there that don't like me for whatever reason. But nobody really. You don't gonna have to me or anything like that I mean. I don't really. Even though I'd say if something bad that I'm not -- them you know I'm not -- into a aside our blog I mean there's a reason why. Com. But don't like I -- The editor of vendetta or anything like that so. I haven't really had common that I can think of any sort of confrontation with anyone -- better than reasonable wanna have on out there just you know this really. Not really I don't really. All out -- or you know.
Yeah generally what you do is positive for them so I guess so yeah. If you're coming -- school. And with no experience no real connections to note you've mentioned this before that the name of the game does ultimately come down connections -- I can personally cause it's got that TO if you're starting a blog what kind of blog would you start or would you bother starting a blog how would you go about getting him out there.
I think you should definitely someone just because it -- sort of -- Korea. And you know which is a good thing and a bad thing. It's it's uninteresting. Question because. I would love to have my own blog I'm about to be able to do whatever I want on it. But that's not always going to be a good thing if you're trying to get a job it's sort of mainstream. Cite a lack of a better word. Tell if I had my own blog I said everything I want to say I don't I guess I would. Look kindly on it so you have to get it if the goal is to. Get a job with the mainstream company. You how he's still have to be careful. If your goal is to do what you want and be the right there you want it right and start your blog and say whatever you want you you to hear what you wanna do it's really. An individual thing. With this. You could put people lost if it's if you're -- you know you're ready to deal with the ramifications of that and I. You know -- if you're gonna start a blog and you know you wanna rip a certain. I don't know company or our personality. You know don't then think that person -- company is gonna. You know we'll look kindly upon you it is you know. He my only -- BP capital of all let's look at these people out there and everyone -- and I -- network Hewitt in the.
Well it's kind of interesting because I mean so I survived this look at what they call a sports -- dot com which. Used to just you know they -- gamers they do features that you opinions but. I never really thought much of doing like a Red Sox blogger Celtics -- because. There -- a million other guys out there doing the exact same thing probably a lot of probably. You know 100000 of them are better writers than me anyway so what I did was I just started this column called sports media musings where it's kind do you exactly we decide kind of rip on institutions. And -- find myself in the mainstream media which so worked out a way because I think. To some degree the media's kind of like. Hollywood how Hollywood treats on the show entourage like they love watching because it's about themselves rest -- media you don't go to these web sites is -- this other website called Boston sports news.com. And they eventually is gonna look. Look at themselves though what's he's saying about me this week that a cutter worked out for me but. You know in the back my head I was kind nervous what I think is necessary to go to become you know -- and take yourself out there is too if you're not into the -- ripping thing which I'm not saying I'm Jim Rome and electrical. But I think -- treats and serve niche communities like I know a guy that does a blog on America east basketball which is. Really small they get what the other winner goes the term or whatever it's called what did wonders if he's developed and -- community because there is a falling for that -- and think that that's how journalism in the media is today with but the bucks here.
Again. It's an individual thing because. You can you know sort of have a -- blog like that and you know you get following and that is especially out yet edit the following. -- niche blogs is really -- you know -- passionate people. Interactive people people wanna be part of it and that's a great thank.
Yeah -- never got in trouble for. Posted something and SI or suggesting posting something that they're collect a series to.
I don't have gotten in trouble I mean I sort of police myself. And I sort of ice I sort of know what's gonna fly and what's not gonna fly. Com. I -- have got to -- I mean I've been asked guerrillas in Lebanon is almost five years now. I think it may have been three tarnished credit that you know you should take that down. Armed. But I guess and I sort of police myself that I don't wanna deal with those situations. So I know -- and it's not complied and they've they've really given me a lot of -- you know do what I want so. It's been good and that's important.
And he thinks it's like the big lead in dad standing try to lesser degree off the bench. Are they competitors with one another -- you think they kind of -- drinks clinging to the table on their -- of August. I'm a working god --
I think there are a little bit competitive. In terms of you know those good to have something first. But I also think. You know. I don't think -- competitor from the standpoint of you don't want to looking to Barry the other long or put the other went out of business or anything like that I think. I think my opinion is that. Sports fans and people who read blogs. Don't read one site they've read multiple sites. So. I think. I think those guys are Smart enough to know what and in my opinion that you know this sports fan who's who's into this stuff is going -- that's been and the big lead in this. Isn't it's I don't think it's an either or situation so. But -- ever competitive in terms of you know.
Traffic traffic report wielding -- weird was when -- been broke that I actually really good investigative piece was Fiat. And I -- this guy's name on keep. Clinkscale that politically to try -- masturbation in the airplane but there Andrews who -- is kind of a volatile figure that you know past transgressions with the hall. Videotaping thinks so not Terrell fall but you know it is what it is and the big lead actually didn't. I look America I've tried scouring in Michigan and comment on its -- like are they just avoiding the story that so they don't want. You know they don't want -- really bring dad's been more traffic court I just the other kind of like weird by a great.
Apple I think if I -- I remember correctly that that that would that's story. Is I think that's been posted it. During game six of the Rangers cardinals' World Series -- or -- That might -- the Cashman. Those -- about Brian -- having an affair that they posted that got no pickup at all either. Picked that store the -- and historic giving this thing about that story is I don't remember what it was -- to all of to skip that part but. I think that. -- the reason that story may beating. Get picked up like you thought it would -- because it's really not about Aaron enters -- about that executive.
Yeah she and I don't think people care about is -- executives they care about the people would MTV. So. I mean that's my opinion at least so you -- you ready did you remember the guy's name but yeah I mean. At the meeting was named. To sports fans. -- that's. But a person you see on TV every day it is estimated on the planes that's gonna be a big big story -- place that's -- I think that's flying. I think that's why now that's story. Probably eating get the pick up people thought what.
Do you think ESPN kind of gets under greatly criticized you think they -- what do they get those guys have all the fun and what did you get any kind of it kind of becomes like you know heavy is the head that wears the crown type crap like -- think that you know that (%expletive) like -- that -- is not like. It's just really kind of unfair because people are just kind of poking at every little thing that they possibly can or do you think it's justified.
Well. I should have killed. Both ways on the issue I do you think that. They have the com. So big and so enormous that they are gonna get criticized. And -- that. And I think most of the stuff they get criticized for is pretty legit. I mean when you. Basically. Allow LeBron James got hijacked in network and our. Current infomercials. You're you're opening yourself up to criticism. And you know the TV this thing that I will say though it -- defenses. It does seem that maybe this is just between -- saying it might it probably is but I do get the impression that a lot of people watch. Some of the show's funniest can solely to criticize them. -- yes I don't understand on an I don't get it at all I don't understand why you. -- something that you'd. Clearly don't like but I think a lot of people do that and it might do just to have material for the blog you know they just wanna be able to bitch on Twitter or something like that. Now. But that's stuff unfair I mean I don't know I mean -- the top dog in the in the business you have to sort of take it comes with the territory I mean I think. You know it's. To date that they're basically like a sports sleek and why I mean they're just like the MBA or MLB Europe out. They're gonna get coverage. That's gonna you know that that correlates that may not state. -- comes -- is nitpicking but I think for the most part I mean the big appreciate having. You know they -- those studies thirty's everyone was praising those things and you know I mean I think they're college football coverage is really good. Com now but is there a place Broward eloquently you know thirty TV stations and web site and you know they're -- the way to promote thing is nauseating so the India could as a sort.
what do you think of the you know he brought there for thirty in a particular Bill Simmons rise you know has come comes in Boston in particular grant particularly. -- Atlanta which. I think is trying to kind of fuse long form journalism with a new age Blogosphere they have those two blogs triangle in the Hollywood -- the Hollywood blog for what it's called. But my -- stretched out and lecturer cut all become one place to what do you think about his rise in greatly to think it's gonna. A lot people -- got -- it is kind of swapped. And I've I've got to vacillating between now it's kind of pretentious too well I go there -- usually find one really really good common debt. So I can't really complain what do you what's your take.
Well I'm I'm Bill Simmons is right I mean I just think it's actually -- very. It's still great timing. I think he really worked hard I think he was. Passionate about what he did com. And if they -- there's a massive amount of credit he is the single most populous sportswriter of our time. And and the following that's. Astonishing so. You know I think what he did it amazing what he does is amazing. I mean. He was able to get -- him to basically both of his own web site that he's I think. That's an amazing story -- I -- this story only one that's. Taught classes I really do.
And the podcasting too I mean I'm not saying he made podcast what they are but I guess report is pretty. Let's say it's revolutionary is that the media -- existed but I think that he definitely heighten its heighten the awareness with. --
No doubt about it and it just -- has power he he gets people. I mean to David you know. As somebody who does things you know does something online and and relies on people to react and and to respond. -- sort of you know you know what that's likened. He gets people. To follow him to -- worked Q you know he gets these people to go to grammar and get him to download a podcast it's an amazing. Amazing story and -- there's nothing but credit as far as I'm concerned as well and I mean it to be perfectly honest. I really. Go there and visit just because it's a solid I don't go to old forms forms stop and I'm so busy that. The -- commuter credit because more than a paragraph that so I read Islam. He did a piece on Eddie Murphy. -- yeah that was. That I love to. Neither of us. -- is that big Eddie Murphy -- It was a it was a phenomenal to me that's felt I really enjoyed that but for the most part on the day I'm so busy that it's just it would it's hard for me to read stuff that's so long.
Do you think that I mean he's mentioned before that you know guys like Tony Kornheiser and don't really read as much because they kind of look at the blank page -- can't do it anymore. Do you think that. Party thinking you're not really your you you take everything got to put it all one place with a hot clicks hardly think it is for writers to kind of keep it going.
hit very hard. Very -- I don't even really consider myself a writer I have trouble keeping your -- You know there's just and right it's a little -- there may be nice to have. I'm not doing you know don't quote unquote writing. But I'm putting them together twice today. Every day and that day he just not feeling it is not in the mood and nobody had -- on on your personal life -- whether there's nothing going on the sports world. You know -- you know there's not that I don't they were acting commander in sort of you know part around for an hour and you know and I'd do anything to try to command -- you know whether I want or not I have to be motivated to do this so. From the right -- and I could see where someone gets -- You know maybe creativity is not there. Act I don't think it's easy and especially for governor right a lot like Kornheiser used to. Play I can totally see -- that that happens.
You mentioned that you -- in turn over at the the -- WFAN. Favorite Mike and -- memories do you have any -- did you hear out of them and your time they're just as a listener yeah.
I mean I did interact with them very little I mean they're doing that show that they do their show and you know content -- out in the newsroom. So bomb. Not a ton of interacting. I mean -- memories from the show they were together -- their Super Bowl trivia contests rode classic.
their break up like any Ellen's break up.
Oh this must work to be like I'm getting -- is actually go out you know and find out today with those guys every day in. They might have to -- an entertainment so it was that the breakup was really shocking to you really see it coming. Came out of nowhere which made it worse.
Well like your boss Timberlake obviously sports crazy just like New York. And I heard someone on the radio talking about I think it was us Steve DeOssie he had Hewitt would edge but he's someplace that Johnson. He was over Wisconsin for the Green Bay game last week and he's -- on the way home he listened to the Sports Radio station and the hosts or whatever and the fans were cut out they weren't really pissed off they're kind of dislike -- shocks you know at the giants -- players to think that. Sports in them is much more heightened in the East Coast I mean obviously -- know that it's kind of a loaded question today is. But -- what like that vitriolic defined like. I mean yankees fans in Red Sox fans in pitchers who heads in the all the successful teams these girls gonna find themselves. Pitching more than really appreciating do you think that's that's fair.
Out of I don't know because I don't know what I don't know what fans and other analysts and a talk radio and other parts of the country so I don't know what they're saying I think. I mean if you're just talking. Nastiness and I mean I'm sure comes -- Our. You know just his passion about the cubs and yankees and the Red Sox fans if you don't allegedly -- and -- that your dog I don't know alarm. I don't really think New Yorkers -- like that I think that. -- just that. Stereotype that's just not accurate com. I think you know the big differences seem passionate and and vitriol. He took me a fair calling of Sports Radio ranting and raving about this team. The -- vitriol which -- these. These fans that burn things activities and championship where you don't -- fans who wearing opposing jerseys -- it. -- up beating up -- you know Philly fans throwing up on another -- To me that's.
You know the vitriol not you know there's. -- operated stations things that books.
believing that it's always been there he is the and it kind of made us aware of it like that that.
There's no doubt about that. You actually see these things happening now. And everyone has a video camera with their own so everything -- tape didn't put on YouTube and there's no doubt about that.
lots of questions how clicks obviously is very popular one of the most popular features on SI dot com probably 'cause it's -- didn't like not really like. It's not like you're really going to be grinder or whatever like he's going it's fun. Do you find yourself kind of do you like the fact that it's a success because. In a way it's your putting together what -- I found this into stinks and in a way you kind of become conventional wisdom. And I mean it is that kind of like we're Kirk or weird. Sighed again.
Yeah I mean I don't really they give it in those terms I think if I start to do that it's kind of issue but -- you know I just sort of I look at it like you would like -- people aren't -- you know people find it funny it it -- worth making someone click on this. If that you know. It fights finds something it spreads throughout the Internet then becomes viral or whatever minutes -- I don't. Think of it in those terms of trying to put together an entertaining piece of company time and -- that stuff happens that's great com. That's really. You know about it but. That he can't start thinking like that continue to go look at things that you think -- I can make this --
Yet has to catcher Ryan click kind of like organically again.
You finally you liken and you know about and it happens that the government government that it can't be really able.
And I'd be remiss because -- to be a big wrestling fan and I know your big wrestling champ that always comes up. I could feel put -- the WB kind of going back. I'm not sure what they're doing now Bolick reality I don't watch anymore but. The whole like a dove for a while they're kind of got cartoonish after the -- like stone cold Steve Austin thing in. It got criticized for that but you grew up in the area where every -- and everything was cartoonish alike. You know the legion of doom -- local -- in. You know America on other crap and do you think that it kind is it cyclical to think that like they kind need to appeal to younger generation that's why they did that.
I don't know I think wrestling assertive as he talked about just about a minute ago would submit the album. And vitriol I think -- the reverend another one of these things. Where the Internet has become such a big factor. I don't know we can ever get that popularity to what it was because it is -- Little bit so much of it out there too I mean they do raw and smackdown and all these shows it back in the back before they had that it was you know Monday night it was a special thing -- you know like the little crappy show on Saturday mornings and that is so much been out there and they will be the pay -- views and it's just hard to suppress it everyone knows the deal that it's scripted and -- that's the -- it's hard to. Surprise people anymore it's hard to do something it's gonna. Shock people would get word of mouth because if you have something planned as a surprise it's on the Internet before it even happens. And what you do out there that -- so shocking when it's scripted so. I'm not sure I'm not sure where they go and in this era state to typing at the very top I think they're looking at some. You know existing dilemmas on the -- where they take that business and how they. How basics CME I don't right now like big big guided Chauncey nine. And CM punk in but in terms of which storyline I don't know what you do that would get bothered anymore.
Yeah because he -- that at all like almost like it's that it's.
And everything until I mean stone cold until the Reagan and -- milk truck appear truck wherever it was a mean. What else can you do -- drop people they've let people on fire -- up to limit means little what what to do.
As they out pop culture and the easiest what's your -- that like loss is gone and Friday lights from me kind of held a special place in my heart I have -- I love try to like science doesn't do better because. Moment because is on Friday night but that is it was a great show and will there be another great sport select -- that's never gonna happen. I can definitely happen in football -- basketball when you're you'll kind of basketball against the -- more drop like a Brian Alexis did.
Yeah they did they did their right they dated it -- a really a football show though you know important part of it but. It was more than that I but I think they can I think you can easily make it successful sports show it's just a matter of you know making one that stood in you know I think that I supposedly there's going to be a movie about in Vegas is also going to be made into a movie. That can be interesting in you know they tried this -- thing which was supposed to be Chela public display is an election cycle -- I think coming right back to work.
I got and that is can -- they have us Seth Rogen pegged as Charley Steiner. And I had a I think they had dated vetoes crisper and that's -- cruel that I have Jamie -- is Stuart Scott lake. You get really -- have a good time Keith Olbermann is a self pixel -- unemployed -- need the money -- console like. Yeah I can be really good what's your favorite show right now that still on the air is it like boardwalk empire would.
My favorite certainly -- probably modern family. Home. It just makes me laugh every week every -- it's very rare when you have a show way you don't. Have a let down when a certain characters on the screen and -- on brings something to the table. And it's just really well written and everyone shows is that that's that would -- that -- more than anything else announcement.
It in even those shows it is that it like. Boardwalk -- that I like actually local looks really good actually brought.
Does look good I'm gonna try to get into that eight you know did they show their other couples -- some and I it's hard to. Hard to keep up with without full pullover. In Libya. Tightly -- with a TV shows so.
It's -- our last question is the body. He sport that you probably bet most on.
So that's the only sport it really -- on.
Okay. And beauty have this bug is going to be data converter on this flight the next week but. Reading about the -- Super -- chances.
Like the types of emotions of the lot I think they'll beat the ravens easily. I don't I don't I would be shocked if the ravens on my -- so I expect the patriots to be in the Super Bowl. And obviously but it's -- giants and I don't have a very good chance when I think giants. Patriots would be the most competitive Super Bowl. And I. That it's the idea came when he came just because. In the NFL it's not about being good it's about getting hot at the right time and don't the giants are they when this week and noticeable. And it they'd they'd -- oddest thing go on but. Obviously you know Tom Brady -- about checking. You never count them out so.
Did you take that line I guess the crazies like gambling story -- that the end of C was favored by like four points the answerable at the king of the playoffs relatives -- you do you do that -- I doubt --
Either I don't really do the future like that so I I didn't get in on that but that's definitely an interest thing. I guess people -- you know it's going to be Green Bay and Orleans and that's how the -- that. And obviously now the pages should be favored over anybody. In the super ball.
Our old gym teacher and I really appreciate you coming on and value can read out hot clicks twice a day it's easier on the what 103011 in the morning and an -- night what times and and night.
It's -- charity put 35.
Gotcha yeah all right well thanks for taking the time and you know thanks for coming on thank you Graham appreciate it.
