Let's talk to a Danny is president of the Boston Celtics and we'll start with a subject mr. agent and we will get to to basketball -- in the in the conversation but a lot talked about this and it's being talked about. Across the the country. Right now I know that you're not a big tweeting person you and I've had this conversation that numerous times before. What's your take. On it right now and if you'd done enough research obviously Doc Rivers -- come out and he's backed his player do you have enough research right now on which you feel. That your player did nothing wrong or didn't cross the line.
Well there's one thing -- handle pressure. Is that EG. We're not a -- makes nonsense makes a sense of a lot of -- of experience in his -- family but. That's just not something I've ever heard some thirty years have verse eight track -- What are logical they're trash talking situation for players say to another player you out cancer. Org you'll art cancer. And then the other point -- like make. -- we move on the real basketball. Is. Reading this. Is not about the opportunity. Tweeting about self promotion in most cases he's not trying to be public servant by telling everybody matter -- she's the one who brings light. That this attention. And if anybody has suspended its started on the -- was brought to attention not KG. Secular all. Charlie would know upper -- AG's set to meet. I amber cancer because that's embarrassing to Charlie so he tries to dis credit Kevin Garnett. And tries to bring. That the seat to themselves. And their self promotion tweeting. All that type -- talk about it tweak to the middle upper gains. Talk about self promotion. And I just think you know this is just. We know KG everybody. Talked about which like what you don't like about KG. This is ludicrous.
Yeah but you also knowing you and I've had this conversation before that KG has a tendency to say some things out there on the court that I know you would most people would never said. He talks about he plays with great emotion it obvious to me that he uses some of this for motivation but some of the stuff he says. Does crossed the line out the is it possible that in this case. He did cross the line and he got a sensitive guy that probably. Looked -- with his own. Issued disease that he's dealing with even though it's not answer. And got a little too sensitive and I do agree with you about tweeting stuff and I've already mentioned at the top of the show today that his brother. Charlie villain waive his brother. It's kind of is marketing guy in his brother is now getting involved in a lot of this out there and pushing a lot about -- but. Hasn't KG crossed that line sometimes if you guys ever sat down and said to him -- can't do some of this that he can't -- some of those words out there --
That's in KG a big boy KG it's the Boston Celtics but he it's a marketing people. That's of course -- in one QG cross. The line. You know it's mostly. -- things in -- language he's using not a sensitive. Words he's using it to some other people mostly language.
Some of those -- could be viewed as offensive.
Right I mean it's it's come and you know. He talks that way when he's in the locker room and he talks that remote Strahan and he's adored.
Doesn't make the stern is a difference. -- can't -- it. I don't know if you've already said the --
I'm not saying it's right. Up -- I'm not saying anything that I'd say on the court is okay so. -- spending. Any trash talking in the past that -- it's irrelevant but -- in this case scenario. Yes charming or to wave. Is sensitive to -- mean. This week saying is it's how I have seen people -- In the doesn't promote -- or something that doesn't help now or so are. But sport and -- and so it's not out and the other thing is as Charlie the -- there's no telling the truth. Which cage and says not everybody believed that it becomes a story. And that's another thing I don't like about it's it's too easy to just sit there on your own and not stand for a TV camera. And you know that's up to some of these things it's easy it's much easier to just. Ordered air and then of people that believe that and so I don't like the fact that anybody anywhere. Can just write something and then it's becomes. You can ruin a person's reputation. You can get all the stuff out anytime you want. Without consequence. I don't like that I think it's wrong I think the chart was wrong and I hope that there's any ifs and buts about it by doing.
The idea guests and when you played you either heard things our offensive to others are people says some offensive things to you and I'm guessing and back then maybe there are ways to deal within the court can you do some of those things today just. But we're talking earlier SE deal with this on the court if you wanna play a little rough what the guy underneath and next time we face of it can those guys be able to go on to someone that this game.
Now now because court to deal with the on the court you deal with -- by winning the game and when you become mature enough to not. Listened to word no sticks and stones can break my bones I mean that's what really counts and he's talked about it. Of course people look at -- saying you can't get abused and the great ones don't allow -- laugh about it.
I think -- a -- popular. It doesn't bother you because you've been hearing that from the your kids play on the playground. It's dark it goes in one -- about each other and you have to do. You have to be all the words are you what it bothers you lose it bothers you when you speak.
or bartered child that's way -- in -- totally agree with you it's just self promote and sometimes it's of value. 22 events. I'll I don't not dropping to his -- so cannot repeat why don't you think you have the opportunity and I want me is that you are reduced to outplay the other player in the other team or thereabouts and -- no right to a chance a new avenue to ended you know our worst.
What not were not meant at its teachings. What he says he set did you art cancer she wouldn't ever -- that because that is embarrassed.
Editorial notes but the first rolled -- KG becomes a social moderates are your kids that team if you brighter better. I think -- people believe because he's notorious for trash talking and so that's why people would have a tendency to believe this is opposed you know her trash talking.
Well part -- has. Brought a we appointed then that it makes sense that Cheney's chance for KG to say that there's like -- never -- on the court. I don't at that and equally.
I -- it does get it -- I have had no I sure don't talk I -- After the guy loses their their report on a guy Colin Campbell and I mean that's if the friend for a you. For a different yes. Fred you've also heard people question somebody's sexual -- desired and everything Fred there's all sorts I want to you listen agent Danny was on a team that had a lot of trash talkers. Certainly -- trash talker. Certainly. -- car was trash starter Cedric Maxwell was treasure. Danny isn't it did he was not well liked and it's hard to believe around the rest of the league not well liked. I heard stuff. Courtside with -- that was attacking his religion. Right you've heard all of the stuff DNA that was.
Like he killed. That you can't let that pop up and mr. Bennett you've got -- just plus eight it's the a terrorist if I ever let anybody know. That it was bothering me.
That you. Do I trash talk a lot to get people's minds off the block him that I sometimes did. -- Around sports because a lot of players.
Are trying to brand themselves and make themselves bigger than the teen by using the social networking as a device to -- extend their brand out there but. I am wondering right now. If this doesn't become. A major problem. For for for teams right now -- in the old days. If you couldn't get the guy backed by beating the guy out there on the floor environment and you -- that sensitive. Then there were some issues but in this day and age any of these players because they of the same agents they -- stuff together in the off season. Beats the relationship between players from team to team seems to be a lot closer than it was when you played the game they probably could've gone in the hallway. And had a conversation with a game was over what you call me that what did you do that an Abbott now. They just -- my cold you know it was in the heat of battle or. -- guys could have directed to them this is phone number here's -- text if you wanna call KG up what you wanna you know. Text them or you wanna call -- or what. I mean. It isn't easy right now to deal with stuff like that if you don't wanna take the other route that you're talking about.
Well it just you know except that as part of the game and -- you know what you're. Hurt every I would sum that ought to some guys -- up. Some. Some guys do get bothered. Another Spaniard is that players don't know. I mean I'm not -- every player most players don't listen to the TV commentary all. Do all of the -- like I know that Charlie is what eats at the rate that you supper -- I'd known that I I guarantee you that most of the players don't.
You're probably right they don't do the research they did --
But in the commentators talk -- to -- that -- like. You know I'm just saying I don't think most players that may be -- view that it played with Charlie you're the broadcasts 18 somewhere by. Most players don't know when that stops and I don't know I just I just don't think it makes much sense. The whole thing but -- an important. Think we give -- on the label -- eat too much.
Thousands of -- look at far I think that is party has the league called you contacted you guys and anything about it. Do you expect that the league will get in anyway involved in this. Were you concerned at all last night about KG that he might be a little passable little timid because of all of this attention and he said the deal with a -- for the game.
No -- we're about to get to round -- about. Any ports I think AG was would be ever. Did I not worried about KG just like -- so angry. And about all this that he made it.
I thought slam dunk late in the game that was gonna happen and I'll let up there's a clearly what -- really do anyway I mean it's not like he. You know -- toppled much from anatomy did this stuff is acceptable Leo feel as if tallies upset. It events that but what what the repercussions dream of the wings stepped in there is no repercussions for.
At first ball first ball a ball players have completely different story you know one dead as a Twitter that he blurt things out so. That's the first thing in need to adopt that -- hurt with KG set and I believe -- about documents it that's not true. I believe dot I believe PG.
Are you guys -- you aboard Whitaker -- we're about income tax. Trust -- that's speculative -- the -- that's -- does not that's not doing him -- any -- Threats -- pretty quick I don't know which we right now I think Fred is -- to -- he's -- totally different. But does it too fat it in this mistaken it's totally different.
Attacked in all of this problem so you don't expect the league so or mobile talk about the game and I wanna start by talking about. Rajon Rondo. Because these first five games. Not that he wasn't terrific player last year. But it's almost like he's taken it to a different level out the is it a matter of the confidence factor that -- just as he's always been a pretty cocky confident guy out there but the ball distribution right now Danny. With him is phenomenal and obviously it's showing up on the number of assist.
and that it's I think it's -- I guess my concern is we talks much about statistics. Access and you know I worried -- start playing for those things start looking for those things happen as. No he she 120 force this game you know the and it means it lives in port near his best game. And sometimes. The media has a tendency to blow up guys are great. Statistics -- triple doubles her big numbers -- I think a -- and -- have a great game it's evidence. And Rondo is playing great. I mean so besides the numbers. Some things that are out in how key a -- or make shots you have to shoot the percentage to get a lot of process. And Rondo just in a lot of -- that the games. It's as beat down. Making shots outside. A lot of things that I love about shot becoming more team leader. And it insists he's improving in all areas that is. That's exciting.
But it -- penetration. His ability go to the whose first step -- phenomenal but I think it's this he realizes. That he's just quickly than everybody else he's so comfortable. When he's being god and is an opening he takes it -- the -- we started thinking about it you know the other thing Joyce Dickens he's bigger now. He's stronger and he hasn't lost that quickness out you know we had a very quick point guard opposite him last night -- yet. You can see how important this is still there and yet he looks easy is it that much bigger did he looks bigger.
you know eats she is getting bigger yet he worked -- time in the -- Roman. Nazis in training. I just. More than any thing it's just -- it's just -- leading. In himself he's getting more comfortable. It's the team and what role is I think the players look in a minute wait. And that's not whose -- stranded take care of everybody else. I think the coaches look at intimated that from where I think all of those things are the reason. --
wanna ask you about the referees. This year you know early on pre season -- down technical files watching that game last night. An emotional levels you picked up and third fourth quarter. And it is I'm watching it going of this could create a serious problem or how concerned you are as far as trying to take the emotion out of the game with the players. Public frustration level late in the game and it's only early in the year wait till there was -- end of the year a -- could just blow up on the court because he can't even believe that the calls will be inmate.
Well. You know I think that I think that last night. What we're I'm curious about his which -- because -- a -- a lot of things last that it happened couldn't call technicals. We've been calling it earlier. So I don't know they got more lax last night -- you know so now guys in the -- schemer and a you know continued that sort of clap your -- there's certain things that are not. Exhibitions and thirty receipt that didn't -- So I think that stocks restoration of technical. So. And that's -- consistency. Let us know exactly what what it's gonna be which can which QU. I wish it would not. Not take emotion now but I do like that. There's just not arts. And let them get emotional and you know have an emotional quick reaction that it.
Now the problem with that Danny is it's up to the discretion of the routes what's too much of what isn't. You know that leaves it open for some renegade recommend a bad mood -- and also on just thrown technical everywhere.
Rebel that that. That that at the met the officials are people to what they're.
I don't know there's out there and the vial. From cotton. Nobody does it to a group -- job watching the game that I can control flow game by -- quick tax.
I understand. So you know that gets you you know that's what you can do which --
I notice on the bench last night at one point Paul Pierce didn't like something in -- and he started giving one of those you know. Nasty facial expressions on the guys in the mystic. Coaches that get all over what do you what the last three weeks in this league right now because you unless they're still looks you -- that of those officials. Via audio or ask you about. Glen Davis talking about maturity. -- and I don't know if he's matured off the court I know you know obviously he says some issues as recently as last year. But the maturity on the court and the C word Doc Rivers and always using in the wanted to know what role was his role right now is closer in the game. And in closing these games. It's not the big scoring plays he's -- making its all the little things that he's don't in which gives you now the impression. That he gets the understands what you have to do to -- closing game out.
So and this year is she's earned. The rule. He been given it hasn't been. See -- gone out there played so well stems. And he's been consistent. And it's just a great lessons on our. -- Talk about that or the -- started in. Stand at that point. A little bit confused. 08 fiscal play in the way to -- watched the flight -- that you belong on the court can't win without -- It happened in currencies from the first eighteen tree exhibitions he's -- now. He's been very consistent.
Watching the interview with Greg Dickerson last night with Paul Pierce after he gets the 40000. Plus points now. On puts him in a pretty unique category with Hondo and -- guy named -- And he was really emotional he was actually the tears were were starting to to fall there. And he was getting extremely emotionally even got emotional talking about it after that saying that just a couple of years ago I was disgruntled Lenovo ought to be with -- and now you've been here awhile. How many different times during that period did you sit and think maybe Paul Pierce is not going to be part of this team could certainly -- talked that way last night. As if he was surprised. That he had got the 20000 here all on one uniform.
Yeah I think. I think that there was so I would win that was a real possibility. Ot talk all you know -- I in the -- Right -- war. Lottery. And -- that -- But a couple of years before. -- look at that India a series teams and small. Yeah I mean it bizarre and ever emotional pain that he was not happy. Maybe different destination and maybe we thought it was also some discussion. Although we we never we never wanted to trade all it was obvious you know let's explore. And we can get anything we want it. Which all -- it and then and then the year that we lost the nineteen role all her in order in the lottery. We have a long discussion ownership by itself. Are we all got together just pop through and were very open on -- support. Where we weren't -- so I think there was some interest to what was gonna happen and so for all still be here for him to win a championship. And accomplish what he did last night I think it's certainly understandable. That for him to sacrifice and make. If that salary this year to bring other guys out streak -- shot and could be made in good shape. At this stage the -- has been a while. I was up all night in and it was on watch them. It does mean a lot and so tradition. What he's been able to accomplish in adversity so her own life. On the court she ups and downs I think it was. --
Simonyi is doing to us for some pretty bad teams in the when you came in the NBA you jumped aboard a -- roll -- and you know and snows here after reports have said that it was -- you where you're able to do that. Had you not made the decision and got Ray Allen. And got Kevin Garnett. Do you believe there's any way that Paul Pierce could have continued to be on that team you might have wanted to keep him but how could you. Keep them in a situation where he's going to be surrounded again with more young players would he have been able to put up without.
items and I think that we have that discussion and at that time we look at that's right although we could to win. All gonna try to put the players around him helped him win and it's not. If we weren't able to accomplish what we accomplished. And we meet him with the direction. And that -- people would probably happen at in the case.
I've won more a question about internal stuff Delonte West Von wafer we all know they got into a a battle and there and fight in practice and apparently there were to a from over the course of we -- half it happens I remember you guys used to battle and it into fights from time to time and what happens what pissed you off the most. The fact that they got into the fight. Or the fact that what happened at a practice. Got out and it suddenly became a big story.
Not -- outside close -- back out and boasting how. Internally should be. Currently in its. -- street and I've done a lot of research -- added actually pretty competent. Now how it will chair. It's orderly -- Addressed it with the people that. Out with the person I think how else you don't believe it. But it -- You don't and it's more a cultural thing that we're all that is pretty. Now what what are our players week. Let -- if you said. -- clip clip clip clip that and even that didn't think about when and -- not think that salt and Rebecca. Yen but now it really well for those things out sometimes.
Any little thing now becomes a much bigger thing is you know we're talking about this whole thing with KG and and villa -- they become much bigger now. Because. Because of the social networking and media and tweeting and everybody's looking for new development every fifteen minutes.
Right I mean seriously it's really all I mean it so is there anything you wanna -- brown and what's -- text demo Texans the at the top -- later. -- mean that's like kick out of or social network some players. Will tweak you know hey. Someone then someone Stanley is ill squeezes out. Like its self promoting about art what would send hacks that it's happening to you regret ever since -- acts. Or at all -- wish you well. -- get so every in the world knows that com is nice accent how to warm welcome to --
Is this something that the professional sports teams are really going to have to figure out how we handle this stuff because. You know that's another story with the other fight get out -- somebody you know. Tweeted -- next thing you know it goes to a million different people and once. One person tweets that there are so people following out of Russia it catches on like wild fire up. And then I'm sure you're inundated with phone calls about every national media person of the country.
Right so all I guess there's two things to first of all aghast at all some pretty. All this is good -- president talked about NBA all -- today -- all chose. A good part of promotion they don't -- bad publicity is good publicity supposedly so it's like there's promote the league because of the -- about that in respect. Higher I dare say that they're good thing from my perspective it's a nightmare because I can -- worried about. Answering all the outlets because you've -- after. Ought to you have to pay attention to the rumors you talk about it Kate situation at about I. Makes it much more difficult. -- concentrate on them or.
Obama treating right now for -- Ainge can't do his job Celtics inched. From office in turmoil the I don't get that -- so how much of a distraction is that you find it silly having to address your team. Leo talking about Twitter accounts of what to say what not to said he said it's a distraction.
While also reads a well both compositions eternally. But we can't. We can't control whether they can't making -- chance that you hear you're a person abuse of -- we could probably. For awhile. We beat you you know lately that. Players have their rights to do certain things. So we try to education I use it. What damage has to be. But their efforts and growing -- justice new. Cultural thing.
Here's the problem your -- and they had what's awhile by by all this stuff come back down on the -- slow about it but here's the rub your are you running applicants the agents are sitting there telling. You've got to expand your brain. So what you need to do -- you need to weed out here it's been successful for Ochocinco some of these other high profile athletes. And then what you do is you've got to give in the -- maybe once in while you gotta give an inside information every once more of what that.
How and successful coaches in a curiously.
All of -- he's much bigger he is a much bigger celebrity. That he is also want all lighter -- Guys don't TV show it versus budget and ratings but he's much I think he's much -- than he is a football player. He's he's he's okay a little personality right. He's kind of a brutal -- of all this stuff but -- you tell me that the agents are telling the players. That you got to get it out there and the only way that you can get all these followers give them some information of who owns right stuff.
All aware that Q. Here. Ride. -- the notoriety as a player to watch and go to buying what. Really good player maybe certain players over radio go Charlie go all the way -- that it's. A way. People code but basically I don't think there's you know it's like helping. A topic itself. Promote his career. -- and there may be more men while you're too but I don't think building upper and get topic and ultimately.
No -- things -- centered he's got he's got every. A group. Out there that's concerned about cancer awareness and everything else all over his brother today no guarantee that and just draw that I -- Regard to the line when it makes him look it makes it look like he'd better citizen.
As he's gonna help our cause. And he's taking a situation in which somebody said something that he felt was offensive and he's gonna turn it around in -- positive now cancer awareness.
Get ready for and I'm telling. You that right wrapped in -- right now. I think that's what I. That's what it's all about really -- business you're on the court. And -- group which are required and credibility. Of any sort sustain out hurt. -- value or whatever article in America amateur moment I mean it's still a good. And I don't think that in post as in attention. And I think it's more of -- negative because it's promoting. It's not that you -- your promoting good things in a future jobs. A free agent like twittering in the middle of -- and swearing in but that's not an outcome.
There's a lot would have probably won't hold -- let me ask that -- the Pentagon and let's bring around to one of Europe and that's all right. How -- you gonna become a better player. Acting is a statue sitting at Harvard Square so the people come out there and pigeons to reading about on you --
the apps apps are and how does he become a one of the greatest players of all one party that -- don't have a player of the credibility. Of our credibility as a player -- Credibility -- Took a celebrity's. As a comedian. Died earlier spot.
Policy does a great many Johnson did you gotta admit that. He's pretty good -- the by the way is he okay -- of the season. Are. Fine. It's the underdogs yelled get the business the couple games he's goodness right there are all right and one other thing Perkins. Is is everything else it's an audio and I could wage if you want is everything is everything going to launch on schedule here. -- And you're going throughout the border more. Well. You'll annual household -- that -- tweeting about it I -- exactly. -- several dogs -- budget actually. Our record Zealand -- present the Celtics didn't lose that -- break. Atom will open up -- bomb was again and everybody drop -- that we -- opened back here at 6177790. -- that the 888525. -- that the republic.
