welcome back Dennis and Callahan. Goodies in the studio as the Election Day approaches is congressional candidate opposing Barney Frank drug deal that joins in the studios hello -- how -- great thanks for example exit two loser do you know and -- at the resonant funny publicly over quickly yeah Georgetown first of all he's a businessman a marine major US Marine Corps reserve. Independent consultant. -- client companies build market strategies. Program manager for iRobot Corp. chairman of the NATO industrial armaments group management consultant lieutenant in the US Marine Corps on active duty. Harvard. Kennedy school of government. Georgetown. Bachelor of Arts there Wharton's master of business administration from the Wharton school university Pennsylvania. Member of the Knights of Columbus. But he flunked out of the -- in the tractor trailers last month.
If we can elect should be left than we month a simple on the flag close -- show Sean does.
All of that make you the right candidate in your mind or it's something else other than the the smarts. Why can't say what we need right now in Washington are more people -- actually grown jobs. Kept people working grown businesses. That's all the stuff we need to get the economy going and right now -- go around this district I've talked to people its economy its economy its economy people are concerned their families are worried they want jobs. They're concerned about how their kids are gonna do. And so what we need in Washington people who are not career politicians people are gonna go down and work and the economy and people have actually worked in the private sector as a marine.
I'm sure you don't look at many challenges and say I can't accomplish that. But a lot of people of tribal Barney Frank in in office do you see this resulting something different than other people ripple effect over the years.
Yeah absolutely I feel really good about where we are now I felt good about the since early February -- lot of things have worked out the way we have planned for instance. Well the money commands which is great it's allowed us to remain competitive. The debates have gone well the polling has closed drastically and they -- it's a very tight race at this point. Were getting great response across the district people are tired of having a thirty year incumbent. The -- of Washington is pretty negative right now on the view of Beacon Hill is pretty negative right now so there's a lot of things that are encouraging voters to get out and vote for change.
Well he -- party represents the worst of Washington and he's personally and professionally he's a disaster mean we know. In all bought all his personal problems tell you know most recently taken the trip to the Caribbean. Lying about it on -- ethics forms we know he's the the you know that the architect of the housing crisis. How come you're not win them by twenty -- commune not routing. This guy this that and and and we've seen the debates you're kill them you know senior adds the very effective we know you -- make. Communal women.
Well it depends -- how you look at winning I think we are winning I think you're gonna see that on Tuesday but. You know this is a very gerrymandered district and it for thirty years people haven't had a choice so it takes a little while -- kind of resonate that there's another. Option out there that there's somebody out there who's not a Democrat but who's offering good ideas. Who represents the same values that people on the district -- Scott Brown won this district but he won narrowly.
What what what's the hardest challenges at the elitist rich limousine liberals up here in Newton or the working class. Immigrant -- Democrats in New Bedford.
Well it eat you got that right there's two ends of the spectrum there we're getting traction among both so I wouldn't say either is it is a greater challenge but. The biggest problem is just getting people to it to realize that. It's all right to not vote the same party over and over and over that it's helping each have a two party system. And once you get over that hump by a of people are very open to the message.
And the in the housing crisis thing if they can be enough that -- think his parole. And even Chris Dodd knew enough to fall on the sword I mean you think it would be enough to wake people up that the financial crisis. That was largely caused by these we know Washington types like Barney you thought everybody had a right to a home. You Rick you've done a great job at the same and trying your best to explain this when he's not interrupting. And these debates you'd think the message is getting through.
Well you know he does everything he can't sidestep his record on over and over and over to just straight up denies. My I call it like you have to but I would call it lying about his record I try to be polite about that. But he sidesteps over and over and over and I think some people believe that but I think a majority of people are saying wait a second that's just not true that's just not right. He did have a role. He was chairman of the house financial services committee he was ranking member of the house financial services committee can't get -- more. Powerful and influential role the net and then to say you have no impact. The the mortgage meltdown and -- and I ended left.
A lot of it was ideology -- is it ideology is that everyone has a right to home. Any forced banks to give bad loans.
He also admitted in the Boston Globe that he went on the house floor two days after Hank Paulson told them about the failure of the near collapse of and it pretty. He wanted to house floor and might about their condition he he himself said that because he wanted to reassure the American people what we expect more of our leaders in Washington. We don't need them telling us things that aren't true to reassure us what we need is. I sober assessment of -- good leadership and he has provided either.
We're talk to a congressional candidate Sean Beulah -- did you not respond. Of Barney's video for heckling you can you were Freddie can take. A cute view -- the probably not as a former marine probably get a handle that while -- you're a better man that I I don't think over the stood there and just said. Seriously heckling me here you can -- or some other kids think that you had to fight back at that point.
Now they honestly it it took me vice president I couldn't believe that you know. There would be that they would stoop to that idea and it's just not how I would act so usually weren't afraid of them right. I -- hasn't gotten you know they were.
Afraid you might get in Rome new like pull -- we call it just grab that camera smash -- what is boyfriends often get him in pickles. I mean let's face it -- was running a brothel out of their Condo one of them. Was working at Fannie Mae problems grown -- a place up in Maine and and stocks gain you. This is personal life I know you don't -- Google that too much but is personally prison issued two --
What we really focus on I'm the policy stuff on his itty bit what he did with Fannie Freddie. And then hit the 370. Billion dollars is gonna cost us not to mention all the equity people have lost in their homes and and a job loss that's a serious stuff that's what we're focused on.
Give our Lester and explain them to explain it to the electrified this stupid -- yeah that they are we are as well. Three specific areas where UN Barney Frank are a 180 degrees apart well.
The first stars with a fundamental philosophy. Barney Frank has a view that the government makes better decisions than people. That government knows better what people should do with their money how they should act and regulating them and taxing them and you re distributing their wealth is the -- Handle things. I believe in markets I believe and individuals I believe that people have the right and responsibility to work hard and get rewarded for what they do. It's a fundamentally different view of what government should do what individuals should do. That's that's probably the biggest issue right there because that -- guides so many other policy choices.
And and you've been of the Caribbean on a private plane lately and that might be different number if I could find one for 15100 bucks for a few days yeah I'd you know they must exist he said it was worth 15100 Goldman Jon -- put. The list of three I was trying to help you with the second one. He's been of the Caribbean on a private plane with the guy who got bailout money. Correct.
That's right and again you know here's another difference I think that are represented as a Washington OS more in terms of in terms of not having these cozy relationships with lobbyists or special interest. With protecting our money in and be careful with our. Tax dollars are not making decisions and how to spend based on their personal ideologies that's -- okay yeah. Now we -- number three I don't believe in career politicians that don't believe anybody should be in Washington for thirty years I believe turnovers a healthy thing in the competition is good for democracy. If he's been too long if there's corruption of power corruption of office that occurs from people on Washington that month. And --
That what do you need to do what he need to have happen between now on Tuesday. Well we need we need to get more votes than he doesn't -- that lets keep our outrage that well tell us -- things ago along with Harry Reid and the way things went for Al Franken you never know you're never gonna get more votes and still it is Massachusetts. What we need are people come into our offices to make volunteer phone calls but -- show up at lobbies to do the stand out. It's the volunteers who win this thing. Contributions are great but we need people come out how they're -- friends in the district go on and vote. I've they have five friends are gonna vote for -- tell them to stay home. But in -- involved and and help not a one to one basis points of the globe had you down thirteen which is good news that means you're you're tied while the accusation to death got out brought down a thirty dollar fifty so -- ten point eight were way and a winning we're at least two of the internal polling shows that it's a much.
Tighter what does your internal polling show -- I would never trust obviously -- no one trust with the globe says so I think that was not necessarily bad news. What is your poll what do your polls say.
Also automated out semi publicly that it is a three to five point race in all the trends are and in our direction so we feel very good about where we are now. It's gonna come -- turnout it's gonna come down to what we were just talking about a second ago with people getting their friends -- making sure they turn out on Tuesday.
What is your poll globe poll any polls say about undecideds right now second part of the question is what do you think about somebody who on October 28 commitments hasn't figured it out and still undecided. Yet you haven't figured out after thirty years right if they get a scan yeah you know -- ethernet -- to show up or or -- or you're not gonna figure out yet. -- The undecideds are pretty heavily in our direction on. And you know its its moral reasons we talked about people are looking for good governance and looking for good leadership of Washington. They haven't seen that from -- if you're not happy with the direction of the country right now you need to vote for somebody else how many terms do you serve two or three if the voters on that now.
To a three in the you can do like Marty -- just change your mind after three and and I didn't really mean it I want before you go see that -- that knucklehead in their back up the phone banking. He is one of these knee jerk morons who just walks in sees the can you convince him. Is this would get to do convince the brain dead zombies who locked in the Booth and to see the why I know him and they vote for him even know. He has been such as such a disaster for all of us. Talk to the -- what why he should vote for -- shown below.
most people are reasonable most people say oh yeah I'll -- out candidates Billy -- speaks about two candidates. And an SOS and ask as people to stack itself look at our values look at what we've done with there who within our lives over the years look at the decisions were making. -- a look at our style of governance and interview with congress should be doing and then say are you happy with the direction of the country now and again if the answer that is now. Then I -- revoked.
Now for the fun part of the interview the final question eighty ask him and incisive pressing question too if you like put on the spot. But -- hot seat or at least answer something in your mind that might sway you over to his side on Tuesday.
Ari -- nice to meet you -- and my fellow Brooklyn resident programs so but you mentioned that it's a gerrymandered district. It's probably the most diverse district. In the commonwealth and Barney has done is so popular and and I don't believe that it's a three to five point -- I -- is more like ten calories he's very popular. He's very popular with rich. People in Newton and Brookline any and he's very popular with the working class and about for so I don't think that it's that it's fair to say this to Jerry Jerry your question would be my question is did you -- my question is why ruin why has he been so popular -- current and currently so popular. With such a diverse group of people that's not a question about.
EM out yeah yeah. -- think I'm best dancers and since 1982 there hasn't been a competitive race in the district if you look at people's opinions and -- it's it's not. Drastically in his favorites actually is a little under fifty when asked about job performance and approval. So there's there's a misperception that because he's been elected so many times that it's because he's usually popular. Drive through Newton you're gonna -- on -- signs everywhere go down to New Bedford and talked to people down there you can hear a lot of support among. Working class blue collar folks -- who whine again new leadership so I don't buy the argument that he's immensely popular and I think we'll see the the answer that on Tuesday.
Like the follow up. I think that Barney was not ahead of that committee between 2000 to 2006. When the real financial collapse began. So do you it if you admit that. --
I don't you have never heard me once say that he -- solely responsible there's a lot of responsibility go around including among Republicans. Would have made the argument as there's nobody who's push as hard over the past two decades to expand homeownership even among people who can afford them Barney Frank. And he uses the argument I was and in the chairmanship prior to 2006 -- 2000. Three he went out publicly and we've all heard a quote he says so I made a mistake pushed for Fannie Freddie and homeownership. 2004 he co -- the letter with Nancy Pelosi to bush White House calling for less emphasis on safety and soundness of Fannie and Freddie. 2005 he voted against -- Republican thought reform bill. I 2007. After he became chairman he co authored with Maxine Waters a bill called the American homeownership expansion act. That's hard to make the argument that you haven't been pushing for expanding homeownership when you. Co author and act calls.
The American home whatever -- been doing yeah. It was I don't normally would put some ice oddity on this again but but I'm not running at Stewart Busch. I am running against Bernie -- in well I'll bet it's bush. Do the bush anyway. It got vote. It wasn't allowed to run with the go ahead run again he would have voted out of -- and so this is about whether Republicans did wrong there hasn't been good leadership on either side over the past decade or two in Washington. The real question is do we think Barney Frank should be held accountable for what he did you ask a question of why it's what does he deserve reelection. -- Why does mr. frank -- deserve reelection because I think it is complete and utter lies that Barney Frank is being in the lead. In this financial collapse just slightly I don't believe our basic -- disagree where -- It is coincidental to facts but the but those are not I don't facts I believe I got I have produced the documentation and support of -- artists -- aspects of this -- steps and in every debate he won't address the fact that there's a latter signed back in its appeal coauthored by -- There's -- voting records showing that he voted against the reform its original as aggressive via good luck I'll go with your again. I just damage Jackie vote on Tuesday that they -- you may sound smarter use that your undecided at this point. Good.
He's -- 10% -- markedly from a fifteen -- series and we just went is that he idiots like you not to sit there and listen the facts and say that's your opinion. As an -- an impressive guy but listen Barney is it is not a good job and and and I think he's he's he connects with the people in his district now.
It's gonna does not connector this is our data and countless and I also have a polling that they put out was based on sampling -- the 2006. Election which he didn't have an opponent 2008 where Obama. Turnout was obviously very high in the district it didn't take into account Tina 2009. Or 2010 rather Scott Brown. Which is actually much more likely to be the case that's why you're seeing these big discrepancies. In their polls vs --
Textures are going crazy more -- signs the Barney in New Bedford says one you got my vote Barney needs to get out Tony in New Bedford signs that went. Jesus that you that your best stuff. I'm a Democrat voting for Shawn Barney is done. I live in Brookline I'm voting for Sean pleased W the stop stealing the bailout -- Shut -- up thanks for the time appreciate -- innovations of.
Good luck we come back in my next week after you win this thing nestled in a casino Scott Brown he still checks and occasion at least the -- as body. To get elected in the senate and then we --
Numbers don't on the road into our products at our John good to talk to your bank yet all right quick time out and he's licking his wounds after that would be down from -- it doesn't even know. -- just got the -- now that he's that I don't care part of it next with a vote it right back.
