Danny Ainge previews the 2010-2011 Celtics and Game 1 vs the Heat

But -- you feel you feel good about what you which you put together here. Yeah I think it. -- look concerned about the health of some number of guys but I feel and you know and probably will be a year but. I'm excited about their team when you talk about the health law. -- you knew going into it when you decided to go into this direction to stay with your. Veteran players that you do risk a little bit poor health and that. The bench has been built up a little bit more is the idea to get through this season -- you know what you can do what you get into the playoffs even though you're an ever foresee. To get through the regular season maybe using -- deeper bench this year. Yeah I think that that is our objective is to have to play more people. I'm not as concerned about. You know ray Paul and KG. And Rondo of the guys are coming back but he nor -- positioned just because of her. I mean Jack in his age and in Jermaine has has got a lot of mileage there I think that that's probably my biggest concern now. A lot of people were surprised. I'm resize Marquis Daniels and he came back a lot of people bought myself -- quote that he was going elsewhere. What they gave him during the pre season and how important seem to respect as a whole will mark monkeys played as you he would remember last year played really well. For us early in the year -- mean he got hurt I never really got into a rhythm although in February shot like 70%. From the field had two or three road games out west that was spectacular. But when we have Michael Finley come back and Nate Robinson come back until he was coming back up -- -- -- to resist. A logjam there and -- Tony actually won that job that can discuss it. -- -- with the -- defense but -- keys. Has had a good training camp. When he's got an opportunity to play in getting through them. Opportunity and it's starting of one of the pre season games he played really well and have a good week practice day elevenths. Much to do with this as most but you know they talk about the ticket for this particular game saying this is one -- the hardest tickets I thought the people of the opposite. Maybe even hearted in the finals for this particular game is opening season game I've ever seen anything like that who. I never have I mean you know opening day is always a special day. Most places will sell out opening night and then you know what think with some of these the excitement that we have of our own team but obviously Miami. And you know maybe -- -- most significant offseason in the history of any team. They get a kick out of those people that you wanna produce has Miami for doing something wrong I mean. I think they had a pretty spectacular offseason meaning you could land us some of those guys that they did in the free agent market not just. The bronze and and bosh who are very special players but some of the other guys that gets the. But Mike Miller ya Eddie House Colin so the good combination of Gaza against the plan together surrounding them. Considering you went now what this was a president to two players to a of one player they have the contract at the period that enemy. And the activity -- which candidate that was gonna happen to you I mean. They were going to get some of those players that if they had a choice to make notable money at one place for minimum money in another place they're going to Miami. Right Miami is is an attractive place -- because of the quality team but the weather South Beach all that stuff is it's an attractive place anyway and then you put. You know this Beatles act together so to speak it's gonna be. It's going to be a very attractive place there was quite engines Beatles references -- the what are you expecting out Shaquille O'Neal with him. You know I think that he and in and -- -- himself let there -- of the statues someplace out now to -- of these as statute -- night. We actually get off their bench and move them out of and -- talk going to be the best I. I. But you know Shaq has been great so far he's been good in practice he makes it out on the court most every day and and he's fun in the locker room so far has been did the other Romeo -- one of those guys the you talk about entries of those guys that your concern about. I mean he had he had a little bit of a of a -- for pre season Jack. But he's had a good we practice so that's that's very clear what I checked him through. With the pre season in in training camp we have happy. -- what you got to him out differences yet -- good had a good pre season so. You know you just worry it's nothing right now that's going on with the of those guys that system it's a long season where that and so. We have 47 footers and on vote counting including her. You know we don't have the first half of the year but somehow those four guys got to you know get us through through the season. Let me ask you what was behind the whole decision. To bring Delonte West back you're not that he's not a terrific player. But she knew that there was a ten game suspension and you'll start serving up beginning with tonight's game. He also knew that he's dealing with some other personal issues that we we've heard over and over and over again Kevin gamble. But it seems like you guys you really embraced him coming back here do you feel it. There's a strong enough support system is that part of it that you. Viewing you can get an awful lot out of him because I think there are long bugler kind of surprised that you bring -- back while you know first. Walking Delonte was a favorite a lot of people in Boston and he was -- fund got to watch a lot of people based Delonte when he was here -- player. I think a lot of people including our own players that respect them today -- not only the guys that played with the want to elect Paul and John Hurt. But then playing against him last few years as an opponent they have great respect for him on the court. And and so yes I would I think everybody's aware that on his head challenges off the court. We're trying to give them support the needs. The players that were with him before. Our coach who was with him before and myself. And ownership I don't think we were weavers we were. We knew that there was some risk but I think we were comfortable with the fact that you're familiar with him on what does that play into the fact that you brought back if you weren't so familiar with the -- with familiar but actually like it. Finding enjoyable. -- at the same time troubled. In when he was here the first time I mean there's so you know what what's happened to Delonte in the last few years is not shocking. Any of us who know that he he has challenges off work. But we loved what he brings to the court. Access -- things like he's gonna grow up. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Well you know with the want to being under house dressed in hand down in meeting permission from probation officer to go. To go many places. I've often wondered how we can do that with the other players. You know some not so sure that those things would have been different but obviously our team and be different personality. A team would be different in leadership would be different in the dock is is a great got to leave these guys and so. And I can't say. How excited I am to have -- back convenience. Im not sure our roster but a team would be that would be lot of differences and now I think the continuity is huge. For us. When you made the decision and this was the direction you were gonna go where does this have a shelf life to it now but do you do you having your mind and expiration date. Where you're seeing yourself we gotta take this cast the characters this far. And and that's where we have to retool. Or or are you like me you put stuff in the -- did you smell it you go. The that we none of us have the answer to that I think that these is based on how they played last year and they put together a seven to eight game streak in the Orlando and Cleveland series last year that was. That was as good of seven or -- game stretch that any Celtic team has ever played. Including the death of the away team that was two years younger and you went on to win a championship last year's team in that stretch in the middle that stretch. Was better than better than that 2000 any team. And so I think that this team can learn to write to them to try again. What does it really gonna mean if you with the game you got a few really good -- myself until you go to Cleveland tomorrow night if you lose that -- -- feel awful. Or if you lose they gave you gotta write it off its first game of the season it's great didn't -- -- it is good theater and that's it and that's a real test because. These are two -- the top teams you know I mean not a lot of people talk about Orlando Orlando's -- Orlando was -- really good basketball team and so they belong in the same conversation in my opinion and so it's. I guess they're didn't get away -- not given all the hype and opening night and I think your Miami and Boston shareware Orlando how good they could be as well get. Right because you've got to game seven of the media and the finals sleeping in the next question. Do you view this season differently and that you finished fourth last year. It needs you've got to game seven but the NBA final it could've been at your center then. That healthy baby you it would have been a different outcome you look at it differently you. Do you try to play in these things out differently now. I don't think so I mean going into last year. Before the season started you know our our motto was win playoff games and we talked about that on the show last year but it's not and and you know with with. The health with KG's health starting -- last year and with the things happen appalled during the course of the season. We were right that. You know I I do take the little kids that it's turning on and turning off things I don't think that works. I don't think it worked last year. People fail to realize was. We had leads I think we hit number one or number two in the -- -- fourth quarter double figure leads last year. So we get a double figure lead in LA against the lakers at home against Orlando and meet. All the you've got to show up to play you just not finish in the games for whatever reason and you know I don't think that we have the resolve last year. We saw with the team's capable of doing in the playoffs but I hope this year we we we don't have health issues this as many. And I think will be a better team has repeat. That it -- thank you. You know they were never gonna win in Cleveland people because because. The because they have the best record the last two years and the fact that. You know nobody thought that that Kobe was gonna win moments that make it oversold and you know they win two championships to get to the final three years in a row after after the -- the soul and same thing -- with Michael Michael was kind of plugging along and all of a sudden you know there's some personnel changes -- all of -- -- -- -- champion so. I think there's a sentiment of people that are you know that -- want guys to stay where they are and be patient and you know -- hope -- could win but you know Patrick never got a ringing and people still don't think he's as good players he was Reggie Miller stated his franchise forever and people say you know it wasn't -- champion and to me both of those guys are champions you and I know that. They just didn't have the supporting cast some of the players yeah yeah I got Barkley. Would be the prime example of leaving the team in Philly -- -- you know Phoenix and not win the championship and I. But he's talking about LeBron like you know he was our -- is traded Charles is traded at a Philly and you know anything really without. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Those who treats that he made to get the players. That's what I think they dislike because in the -- day these older superstars. Second of all I think that he you know when it plays -- to just have to see you -- you don't my answer is just like no I mean I think that people dislike the whole decision and ultimately. I know but I'm dissembling if you personally I think that once you start playing again immediately the number one vote getter in the -- they -- start now. This year anyway this Kevin Durant well well maybe you're right -- immediately up there -- still -- product will be number one. I think that it's it's good either way I mean -- -- parity and you know lot of superstars spread around and can be can be very good like it is more in the NFL. But I also think that it's it can be great when you have. Two or three teams that teams look you know all the teams are looking for this is great rivalries developing I think either -- can be successful super teams -- for the polygamy because the ratings.
