With a team that has got all along. He's gotten Arizona I didn't want to talk that he was probably on the golf course Peter king joins -- weren't Peter today.
Sit in my house in Montclair new agers caught -- can't stay in Arizona forever that was their. The morning and I now I came back last night I actually went yesterday to see -- Thomas and Madison, Wisconsin.
I'd I'd -- we want to ask you about him.
Joe is a Joe is one of these guys in the draft to. You're not going to be able to find anything bad about him as a person and not a whole lot of bad about him as a clear leader he's pretty intriguing back.
Hey Peter out jails are here today saying hello Catherine -- from -- and I'm sort of feel a lot of her because -- the world's biggest Red Sox --
What -- I am doing a great no real good thank you good. Actually beaten Kansas City for the but to start again.
There ego that messaging everybody wants to see. See what he would bring to the table.
Yeah that's going to be that's going to be funny pitch differently tomorrow.
Yes he has. I think that game is going to be they'll probably sell to -- out just like you know all the starts in. In Fort Myers even though it's -- a meaningless game Peter he'll probably be the main attraction sort of thing that -- out -- about some football stuff. And and -- it interesting take on this pac man Jones stepped as the story goes -- working out yeah you're working out with Herman Edwards and here comes Rodriguez DL and Herman Edwards says something to that effect of -- about we've got to support just pick up the story from there what is that going to.
I mean like one of the things about -- little league meetings that. You've got 900 guys they're -- You know ward just work out -- and because they start so early people get -- that work out room by 530 year bracket and equipment so. I get in there maybe quarter to six -- a little league it was one elliptical trainer there was right now except -- saw him. Working out and and Padilla walked sit in -- basically button holes and you know he you have got to come out strong of a -- and Jones. You know you got the support of every person in this league and I think I think that they all knew that and I think he knows that. But I think he wants to make absolutely sure. Then when he makes a ruling on Jones which I think he's going to do Michael is still -- them on Tuesday. To meet with Chris Henry on Tuesday. And it basically here amount and I think he knows will be dirty going to do with both guys but they indicates that Jones. He's -- he's going to give -- half the season. And then help determine at some point. In the next few months after this was Vegas case is adjudicated. Which could beat the depth now for this guy in this league if it's true. Not only beat the crap out of a warm in the air but then -- which is church. But then after he was separated from -- grown back ever again finding your again. And continuing to beat the crap -- ever. So 88 you know I think that. It would almost certain pregnant -- very very little chance to play football this year but. There's no doubt that that this league right now is very bullish on taking miscreants and coming down a lot harder on them in the league has the last few years.
Peter re going to turn in to a four man -- and I want to ask the guy on the line right now about what you just talked about player conduct in the league Richard Seymour joins us Peter king -- to -- Michael -- I don't Richard Richard.
Very hard no.
Or great Richard I -- wonder what you what what's your opinion on this pac man Jones situation in the possible suspension packed it.
That it is Melinda act at all this awful awful good spokesman whether all of this --
Aren't you gotta admit your opinion about your opinion means a lot
you know. You know I think -- awful lot of looked like it. You look good. You know or at least they -- of these like -- off topic -- I want a I want. -- people would be like forceful -- view -- You know those that would light -- that it appeared. We have nothing is more meaningful or impact full. Former child is. You know they'll look to their respective. You know some things like that that more peaceful. And probably more like -- ago he would do you know how will they rule all of it is things like that they'll go from bet that want to thank you very good point. You know other player in the league. I don't know. Currently the group later it. Also obviously I you know will they was. -- ever recorded. Would it would it would be.
Peter let me ask you something now at them with this sanction obviously it's it's clearly going to set a precedent whatever however hard they decide to come down on him and as Richard mentioned the fact that. All of these athletes in every sport are tremendous role models and and if you have kids looking up to this and seen what goes on off the field. You know you have to take that into consideration D do you agree with the impact of the sanction.
Well it's right it in in targeted gene Upshaw are about this topic one of the things he said is that when he would visit teams. This past season I don't know that he's -- it every team but you know he told me that he told teams worked you know we got a great thing going there's only one thing they can screw it up and that is you know this sort of aberrant behavior that has been running wild the last years so. In the NFL and so I think it. It is it's more then. -- the effect it has on kids I think it is significant also in the effect it has. The machine it is the NFL because if -- you know what what our advertisers and it sank a you know if they are spitting -- million dollars on. Sport where he you know people -- on the police blotter every day day in day out they're not going to want to spend the same amount of money. They're not going to be as aggressive. In in in trying to align themselves with the NFL that I think the biggest concern. I mean it's great to to want to be role models for kids but I think that goes hand in hand with basically. Being -- guys and you know Richard is absolutely right this is in my opinion 123% of players in this -- It is not a wide swap of the players in this league I mean not covered the -- for 24 years. And believe me. There's a lot more good guys that bad guys. This week so I just think the league it is you know hugely image conscious. And ten and they're going to do everything they can to make sure that this image stays intact.
Richard we know pac man Jones has been meeting with a commissioner he's going to be meeting with commissioner. How you've been spending your offseason here
there's a mob of yeah what overweight is a my oh it is if the city we stick it out or. You'd it be so important you -- a lot of it is the -- while it was it was well worth it down years. You know -- one. You know being cute though you know. -- a lot of responsibility work in really it all of these you know effective that way you could. This but it good to -- it was -- was it written.
Richard wonder what what you thought of some of the team's offseason moves the -- Thomas. Wes Welker Donte' Stallworth is your opinion on those moves
obviously it's it always is great no always. On paper now. We looked like you know -- you know -- it is as well as well. You know with a lot of work oh great a lot of these. The -- opposite right now. Or paper great with the who work.
Peter out richer is talking about those signings now what do you think the pats are going to do with the in the first round with their draft picks
you know I think they'll try to maximize their picks whether it be in traitor or pick it up a couple of guys. I don't I wouldn't be at all surprised if they try to move around -- one of the things that. Belichick and PO lead is so well is using draft picks is currency wouldn't be surprised to see that use one of those picks. To maybe he had a couple of twos or something like that but. Media in general I think they're going to try to get linebacker I think they're going to try to get a corner I think it's going to try to get safety. And -- he you know those will be those needs will be addressed. You know in the first day I'm fairly sure. And then and then after that I think one of the things that they're going to try to do really is you know obviously they. You know -- They eat they want to do stuff for -- all over their rosters so I mean I think they're there one of these teams that -- pigeon hole. To a certain position where they say we have to get a guy. And I think if they could get younger at linebacker -- they want to do. If -- think he gets some quarterback insurance in case they it was a sloppy Samuel -- so. They're probably going to want to do that but it's it's not anything where I think they haven't -- it needed any position.
Richard you keep up but this stuff for you follow draft talk and mock drafts and projections in the light.
Really I -- If I mean -- they watch what you -- it would have or. You know just in general this is it opens up in whatever. And they after even when -- always. The -- with. They've what and now that would -- that although -- we always do that would be good or it is you know if it's would do well my later years. -- the so. They put that forces with the rules up there -- oh.
Then they AAR. Richard also want to ask you -- it UN Peter. When asked about you know instant replay was one of the things that they talked about it the owners meetings in Arizona. Just making a permanent was that a surprise to either view is that something that was long overdue. What do you think of that is that policy that instant replay -- to stay.
Well I mean there was no way that they were going to go out and spend what in essence is going to cost them we know probably about 91011 million dollars to upbeat although the replay equipment around only tight death they were going to do that unless they can make -- a permanent thing is that they did it many get voted out two years in this current experiment ended you know it'd be sort of silly -- have spent all that money music for two years. So I mean once. They convince the ownership that you know -- would -- sort of make this investment. It you know and and go for the long term or don't make it at all and -- it was a pretty easy decision. Look at replay is in the NFL the stage that left. I think it would it would have a bad effect on the game because it's something that. You know has been in play now and people are used to if it got taken away I think. I just I think it would take away from the I'm sure that that there's a lot of people don't like replay for whatever reason but I think all things considered it's been better man. I needed it it'd be better it's better to have -- than that not to have.
How about you Richard what you think about replay and also pass interference I thought there at the possibility they might overhaul. The rule altogether and just make some 15 yard penalty for the ones that weren't so egregious. Rather than now analyzing teams sometimes 42 yards or 45 yards for what could be a subjective call would you think -- though.
Well you know -- the we. A lot of Orval -- you gotta have a there was a lot of if it. Yeah it. Then after that we -- great. This is it. That if we go. Well I don't -- weird please put the though. We can have a boat -- is wage -- oh. I think it was oh well you know we definitely -- you hope it is -- We have -- this it. That it -- obviously on the -- is that. You know if you.
Richard I think it's not the agrees with you that don't recall actually that was terrible and I take it Peter Philly and Richard until less than two. On the top of the draft him for a while we doctor Marcus Russell will be the guy now we hear the name Brady Quinn just like that those topics Brady Quinn to marker to Marcus Russell and also like Calvin Johnson.
Well I think the big question now is where they're -- Whenever al Davis who right now you know it's funny al Davis to sit near -- number one. And you think that you know disguise -- cornerstone of pro football it's bizarre to think. It always -- in the NFL he's never had the first pick in the NFL draft. But and and so it's it's really huge decision and probably you know he's page 77 he's not doing very well health wise. Probably the last two really big decision he's ever going to make -- his football career. And yeah. I mean logically you would think -- the guy need to quarterback he's got to make a decision until Marcus -- should take of they give US scouts in the league he's got to take big guy but. I had to guess right now if he doesn't make a trade I guess we'll take Calvin Johnson. Which then would lead to Marcus Russell. Number two to Detroit now I don't think Detroit's gonna take quarterback I think it's one of those in Mike -- state trust type deals. Where they're going to allow him to continue to work with Jon Kitna maybe they take a quarterback down the line. You know maybe they take -- Troy Smith in the third round or something like that but. I think you're going to stick with what they have right now and they would live to be able with that. That pick somebody who wants to Marcus wrestle may be like Cleveland in my gut feeling is that they're probably. Going to sit where they are or make a trade in traded Joe promised to tackle from Wisconsin. You know we have meat and potatoes guy Rod Marinelli -- them. All that stuff so 88 you know after that Brady Quinn to meet I think he's either gonna go seven to Minnesota -- 92 world 92 Miami there's a chance if the readers can get a ransom for that first pick they could trade down the raiders really like Brady Quinn but anyway -- it's one of those things -- still a month away a month from yesterday and the day before. So it still could be an awful lot going on and and and I do think there's going to be some traders shake up the top of the draft to.
Richard I have one question for you when you get back up here at Foxboro and -- ready for mini camp what are some -- going to focus on as far as you know messing with the new players in getting everybody obviously you know tremendous leader on the team whether certain things you keep in mind and try to focus on to get this group back in it and back together again.
Well I think you know. First formal buyout thank you wore it all the it together together you know I think you know. If there's one of the leaders know by the rhetoric. It is important to. You know the -- football -- Develop it. You know he's with the what is was it like you. Develop it. Upon that is under rated. -- it was important what -- you know so I think -- problem because these it is. This together nothing from that one -- more upbeat that that that that you without football -- That we do. I think it's a lot would it -- who is this so you know my they won't be good you belong to that -- that it.
Peter Richard final question for -- to let you both go. Just want to know what you think of Troy brown and the possibility of returning to the patriots. Richard and I have a lot of respect for Troy and Peter and wonder what you're hearing about Troy brown in terms of visibility to come back for another season.
Well I mean for the patriots sake I hope he does I always think that what happens in the in the off season. If you say well you know maybe we can do better. Then some guy who's been in the league for a long time and you think he might reach the end of his -- you get -- November and you realize -- it which we have that guy. And I think that's the case which Larry brown mean he's one of the most underrated players. In this era of pro football patriots would be much much lesser team without them for a lot of reasons. Not the least of which they can to -- I think -- the last four years. He has played it very very big role not only you know is either the second third fourth wide receiver so I'd be -- on special teams and it's one of those things that you can't have enough of those players. And I'm sure a lot of people think well you get west well three get a good return guy he got a position -- group never dropped the ball all that stuff. You know he's sort of get -- carbon copy of the younger Troy brown. I guess I would not put Troy brown I would I would the French yet I'd I'd I'd want to for one more year -- the patriots.
Richard -- at all. If -- was -- in out make that is you know I think outlook but it.
You sort of -- the walk away that you walk away you know -- We've -- of the -- will is. No idea -- vote that would like you -- good that would. It is at least -- that. -- want to help you lost. That lead by example. That they've -- but it would be it would go -- they one. You know like if you use. -- round what for it was it is these ones though. Know what you know where to -- like though it is I think it if -- if you Horry is. What that red you. -- here -- it
their ability.
The -- it was a pleasure talking football with both -- you feel free to call and at the same time again. And we can do it another time that thanks a lot for -- knowledge on us.
Okay all the best -- Richard take care.
