Not a surprise I think for most yeah a lot of a lot of the -- are writers didn't think that over time the new overtime amendment. Was gonna pass. In it did pass and passed overwhelmingly actually. I like the one of the rare people I think who who like the old system.
Like yes I. I've gone back and forth which is probably why a lot of people thought this would fail cause a lot of people gone back and forth I found it interesting that that Bob Kraft voted. For the new overtime. Proposal. And his coach said he didn't like. Now this was a situation where you would think this is an on field football matter this -- board of governors business type stuff. You know this isn't trying to decide the next dot com venture for the NFL. Where you probably don't much care what Bill Belichick thinks. But this is an on field football thing the guy who heads up your football operations doesn't like this and you voted for it anyway.
I heard you say did to John when I'm John -- to Jerry in -- that she thought this was the Brett Favre -- and I don't think so I it is the NFL hated it. Well CNN stand and over there well I think they of this has been discussed for awhile people have complained about. You know letting your game come down to a coin flip letting your game be decided by the kicker.
They've hated it and talked about it for years. All of a sudden this is here in the aftermath of the NFC championship game the rule gets to.
It opens all of a sudden I think this day was a a long time coming I was open and wouldn't come -- open that that it would give voted down. But it but it but it didn't but I don't think -- had anything to do with with Brett Favre. Standing there against the saints. And NFC championship game probably had a lot to do with many owners. Complaining about their teams losing. Losing games and the city in those situations where you know you get -- have a chance to team let him have a chance. To answer the field goal. And so this is from probably be gone on for a long time and apparently decided to fix.
Could -- maybe it's coincidence I don't believe them a lot of coincidences. In instances like this but it might be. I think I think the site of Brett -- standing over their bloodied. Battered in bode. At the end of the NFC championship game while the saints marched on the field and kicked -- field goal and went to and ultimately won the Super Bowl stuck in some people's cross and I think that's what ultimately did it.
Department. I just effect as well the fact that he never picked it touched the football. Miraculous game winning. -- our line of who knows but no. No it. What happened. It would be upset about Brett Favre on the line if it is done -- job. Held onto the football maybe. The women playing the purple. So what is it about the new the new overtime you don't like racquetball teams will touch the -- have a problem well. You know kick -- If you look the point where you have the opportunity to make -- stop. Make it up we move it. And I also have a problem with the -- The game. FL kicker can still -- from the kicker what game that's okay three point and that it's game over. First burst in the scored the first team scores on the field goal you don't get that genuine problem that. I think the ticker at the -- a part of the game I'm not gonna minimize the kicker as much as some people do Christian Fauria. Pretty much -- All of the logs that while it only likes one you like that only one kicker Adam the only built -- them -- and they only Hillary to minimize the position. Aren't the comes down to it you're tied. After sixty minutes and a kicker decides the game I think that's there. -- But I didn't see any major flaw with the old system.
I don't know if that if it was a major alarm I I I -- think the idea that a coin flip and I understand that it doesn't always decide the outcome of the game. But I I think that that at least the perception. That if you win the coin flip you're gonna win the game drove people crazy. And and and I understand our Michael stop them well.
Why -- that I know the game mr. than others that support you know from -- from seven reported 93 get one result now after nine to three. The numbers change. But I I have just seen so many great games. In NFL history. Go to overtime and the team that wins the -- there's not necessarily go down on the first possession when the game.
Few examples rating.
I just the.
Edit and I don't feel as strongly about it is you do I don't mind the fact that they've changed the rule like -- the only thing I probably would ask is that they. They extended to overtime period. I -- pro football talk things that that may be coming down the road anyway. I don't much like different rules I well the NHL has it -- Shoot up can decide a regular season game can't decide -- Stanley Cup playoff game or two I think it should decide a Stanley Cup playoff game so they do have different rules as well. You know extra innings in baseball doesn't change regular season and playoffs. In overtime in the NBA doesn't change regular season and playoffs I'm probably more comfortable. Having a set of rules in just that's the rule of the game period that's it. -- In the NHL's case I'd probably put to get rid of the shoot out but they seem to think fans like it's.
I think there's still like it.
like this throughout.
Yeah I and I think that's what the and it -- and a jealous account I think it's fine to that the that a game that he that a playoff game is not decided that way it would. I can see your point is try to come up with something consistent. That you can use throughout the right just it's just this is the role of the game whatever it is but the NFL is not doing that I know that's what I'm saying it's it's the one. Beat -- I have about this whole system.
