The Bruins show some signs of life

Ever last week. We talked to Shawn Thornton of the Bruins last Friday it was in the aftermath of the the Pittsburgh game in the Matt Cooke. Retaliation in he had -- and we talked element. And somebody techsters Sony mailer somebody callers talked about I just love that guy and I time I just love how he talks. What he says. And and I set on a number of occasions I have such respect for people who play that game the play at the right way and I don't know how many people sought. Last night Shawn Thornton had a fight with Eric Bolton the tough guy for the Atlanta Thrashers terrible was the only Atlanta thrasher who cared it appeared that. Four nothing loss to the Bruins. But he had a fight with them. At these are two with the two top guys from their respective teams Bolton is trying to light a fire under his team. Important understands and respects what Bolton does he agrees bagel -- And there are two things in the fight that jumped out at me at one point and it's a pretty good heavyweight battle this is told -- tell heavyweight battle at one point. Bolton got his arm tied deputy sleeve he was trying to get its arm out of his sleeve and he was all tied up important stop -- You know it's like out on I'm a gonna take advantage here right you know any waited Bolton got his arm free -- away they go again. And then at at at near the end of this heavyweight -- the Jersey up over Bolton had and the minute he got the Jersey over Bolton said he looked at the linesman and he's nodding his head yes okay and now. Time to break this up he had an advantage over Bolton. He wasn't gonna press that advantage he wasn't gonna pop of a few times with the Jersey over his head the minute we got the Jersey over his Teddy stopped. And and nodded to the of the linesman okay command and it's the -- broke the -- you saw the one linesman who had Sean important. Any patted him on the back and help. Because the -- understood. That that's what you do that's how you do and well understood that how you deal. And I it just it's so impressed me watching the way Sean -- performed last night. Bruins had a big Ford -- win Atlanta Thrashers. Looked worse. On the Bruins did in the Pittsburgh game last week if that's possible they look worse.

Literally and figuratively because here. Do those uniforms. Have it -- it distracting. Those of got to be the worst uniforms and national I'm willing to go there with -- Well people they went back to being the old Atlanta Thrashers. Nobody in the arm at the Atlanta Thrashers. You know few weeks ago where they had a four game winning streak. So then they are not adequate. I mean I think the Rangers are pretty much out of it at this point in the writers need to get real hot to get into the playoffs. The thrashers bounce back but it's -- went into last night's game. There five point from the fifth spot. Before last night and five point from the tenth spot. So they can do some they can do some things here if they are this is real. If the game against the Rangers Israel. And the game against the raptors Israel knows a few bad teams. Both teams would make the playoffs today but if the Bruins can play at that level. You know you might be looking at a team that. Jumps up to six -- jumps up to five. In the Eastern Conference they got a chance does it help on it -- the -- to play ball a little more frowned a little more you don't like any of the matchup but. I would rather play buffalo or New Jersey and Pittsburgh who washing.

You avoid Pittsburgh or Washington in the first round that's a big move for. If you're the -- that's a big move -- A team that I thought was dead a week ago specially in the aftermath of that Pittsburgh debacle. I'll give them credit they showed up with a light on Sunday against the Rangers the team that was one point behind now last night Atlanta's one point behind. And I get demolished. I it was amazing how how little effort there was there for the Atlanta Thrashers. I mean there was half -- was -- in all my goodness it was easy from it really wise it to them they took advantage of it they played the way they should've. You know that that was that was had an impressive win. Now I gotta keep this thing go on but I'll give him credit men that was a good win last night in Atlanta Tim Thomas Aaron Boston is over yes -- Gaddis. Not a question becomes can -- trade him. Because you don't wanna -- as a backup goaltender. In it in a sport with us -- a hard fast salary cap. You can't afford economically to have a five million dollar backup goaltender Rick doesn't make sense for any team to do that so the question becomes. And you work out a trade Philadelphia Flyers are. They're a team that looks like they would give anything to be able to make the trade for a goaltender right now and it's too late. But I'll be curious to see what -- rallies going to be able to do in the offseason Tuukka Rask is the goaltender of the president he's the goaltender of the future. And unfortunately for Tim Thomas. He wrote a a storybook vezina trophy winning season to -- wonderful contract. But he probably not going to be able to play. Here while it would Peter surely is going to be able to do in the offseason whatever he thinks of Dolan. It's gotta check with him Tomas. At times that's a no trade. So it's like you just -- model -- depiction that if the that if you are Tim Thomas in York right he has he has the hammering this thing. It's hard to picture that all this is is a paycheck and you don't really care that you're gonna play. You know every ten games or so I mean anybody's gonna wanna play if you can play you wanna play. And and I got to believe that if Tim Thomas has presented with the two options. In outlook you have the right to stay you've got the no trade clause but you're the backed up and you're gonna play very often wore. A week and trade you'd acts and you play a lot a lot I gotta think you gonna play for your money -- While maybe likes it here I I I believe guts. I I do believe that he does like it here but it may be alike in Philadelphia to board the flyers -- goaltender right now. The pride of Woonsocket, Rhode Island in mount saint Charles academy Brian Boucher by default is their goalie all the time now and they are in free fall. And I'm not going to be of -- apprised of the Bruins kept from the way they're falling in the way the Bruins are. At least stabilizing the Shapiro. So that they've been impressive Marc Savard everything they absolutely have now added that one area where they've been awful since the departure of Savard has the power play and it makes sense. They're now all for nineteen cents a -- got hurt. Mean he's the playmaker he's one of the best playmakers in the National Hockey League it shows. And and ultimately if they don't get that fixed it's gonna make it hard to. You know even consider the possibility of advancing in the Stanley Cup Playoffs but that's the one area where they've missed Savard the most I give the team credit. You know guys have stepped up and played better. And and good for them you know -- had a goal and an assist last night that was an impressive all around win against team that just didn't seem to give who. Albeit nothing nothing negative to say about last night now.

You're right you're right -- to grass was great the they took advantage of an opponent who was on the ropes. Knocked him out. Increased their playoff position. Fought when necessary. Not -- negatives.
