Shawn talked about his fight against Matt Cooke, when he decided that he was going to go after Cooke, that he doesn't blame the fans for booing at last night's game, if he had a problem with the team's lack of response after the hit on Savard, how the team didn't give enough emotion or energy last night, why they couldn't feed off of the fans' energy, and that he wished the fight was longer and wished he'd knocked Cooke out

They've put vices. Mandatory Bart is now on the gates on -- -- to fifteen games I think a lot of the first six times most. This Indian dominant I think I held -- five or six times I think. Both fighters are big deal for the fight goes but it. Well -- -- people that Adam has that they got a lot spirit and so. And in the visor Pletcher decided to take. I really spoke eloquently in the HL but not how to mandatory advisers for -- like you because. I think a lot or interest you're out of his six so far it's earned four ounces at an exodus for. And have -- and -- -- -- Munich it's big and might have a summit partners stopped those. But my daughter -- -- not what you want but they are I didn't care if -- where pop art architecture really ought to when they go and so. And you get. -- -- -- -- Who's the best fighter you've seen at any level hockey an -- who taught you. The tricks of the trade so to speak. I had a couple people are aware are younger and cigar remodeling and there was more. There's all the boxing stuff all but it is more than not plot starts to. A that he ready to go and am not. How can be so emotional to get involved and just knowing that. China reached so that you're better condition than most people in your Adobe also are. Last years -- Boston opened training at the ring in the summer -- that's on Batman yeah. It's pretty good work. For -- I go -- He treatment and we can it does at all an organism are reluctant to cut so I think those two people could -- mean. Prospects conditioning our web -- knows that. I try to train to be occupant to nurture your stuff just -- a -- fighting just -- is that while it's actually not shoot around that really think about it. And so I got laid -- a pro nine. Motorola sometime but I think about it before and it was gonna happen. And it -- China has always been those kind of. Aren't you when I've talked about this in the past you've elected to spend most of the year here you go home a little bit to Canada in the summer but. For the most part you live here year round you go to Fenway you watch baseball games you know with the city feels like. You probably have a better grasp the many of your teammates about what Bruins nation feels about things. Do you think you're team understands how upset Bruins fans are right now. I hope so. I -- your arm. Our law in -- I enjoy the city amounts. It's -- compensate its -- now. So I understand it I know people are. I mean I walk around child -- -- tell either which is straight people are passionate air so. I hope our achievements -- -- you're not that summer really not sure. What what have you heard today personally just. From your you know walking around the city driving around -- -- couple copier anything what have you heard people say. Both -- today mostly with respect to talk. -- -- -- -- I -- you know you you you you almost leapt into that that rare category in this town of never having to buy a beer in this town again. -- that that Michael release he only allowed. Repair and a I mean that's that's what you did last night at it was the only reason fans had to cheer last night. And and you gave it to home because -- did your job that's the Bill Belichick line right do your job did your job. Yeah I mean not -- that was to offer our wants to. Player document that's clearly we're not scoring years we just went out to secure the and the team and we can also -- it a little more. Al -- insert Garcia portrait so. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- You said something to the cook after the fight did you tell him you're gonna be back again and did you expect. You're gonna be back again with -- before the night was over. I'd I'd adopt everything used talking others just looking around. One other suspects that it's over -- -- that experience let you know excellent cover madness is about that total. Which again I kind of respect that to whoever I'm I'm guessing that would have been dropped but I I can respect that too. That's ballot here. I -- both -- top artists few times -- -- -- just wants to -- cute I'm not. They're very respectful in him the code which and people -- -- an organic analyze and so there are very -- player and -- -- -- a bit earlier or unconcerned. Yeah and it says a lot about you have mentioned your career fights once 79. In zero suspensions and 179 fights whereas cook at. As dale said not many people respect him as a fighter he's not a fighter and he's -- he's been suspended three times. So it it does say a lot about that code that you you you have fought a lot in your career yet never been suspended so that that means that year. Do one at the right way there. That in itself -- -- at a NHL. -- I didn't know that number had no idea how many there are dominated yeah. I had no idea I really -- provided other pick a while ago. And I you can count we got my account from now on that we just found out that number yesterday I didn't believe when herded like. 178. That that many fights. Hockey hockey fights dot com John. And get -- I'll give you all the stats and they'll tell you if you water or or if you've lost a they have a career record they do they actually have that too. And a half half half. You know. We we get these these text messages kind of instant feedback to interviews in just a couple of them Jesse and -- first -- says Shawn Thornton is the greatest -- to ever play for the Bruins. Which is kind of nice and then the the next and says I want my daughter to marry this guy. I think people appreciate honesty and appreciate effort and I think that among Bruins fans you score on both accounts. Repairs aren't they thank you John Simon. NESN's Barry Pederson on the Bruins dominance

Cleveland Indians hottest team in baseball, yet remain last in attendance May 19, 2013 By AJ Kaufman 6 Comments There’s a scene in Major League where Bob Uecker, portraying the radio voice of the Indians, bemoans, “In case you haven’t noticed, and judging by the attendance you haven’t, the Indians have managed to win a few here and there, and are threatening to climb out of the cellar.” Well, that was nearly 25 years ago and fictional, but today’s reality is that Cleveland has won 17 of its last 21, and currently tops the AL Central with a mark of 25-17. No one in the majors is better than the Indians in the past month (20-7). That’s great news. The bad news, however, is the Tribe somehow remain in the MLB cellar when it comes to attendance. How can this be? The fact that I wrote on this same topic almost to the day last year – when only Tampa Bay drew fewer fans than Cleveland - may be even more troubling. Though roughly 34,000 watched a walk-off win Friday night against Seattle, perfect weather and free caps weren’t enough to draw more than 36,000 Saturday and Sunday combined. What did the Indians do in those tilts? They nabbed another walk-off win on Saturday, then the Indians crushed the great Felix Hernandez Sunday behind Justin Masterson, arguably the AL’s best pitcher right now. Fun fact: The Indians have already faced eight Cy Young Award winners in 2013: Bartolo Colon, R.A. Dickey, Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Jake Peavy, David Price, Justin Verlander and Hernandez. They have won seven out those eight matchups. Simply astounding. This offseason, the much-maligned Indians front office finally made a legitimate attempt to improve the team through free agency. I’m not talking an Ubaldo Jimenez-like trade, but rather smart acquisitions that brought veterans Mike Aviles, Michael Bourn, Jason Giambi, Scott Kazmir, Brett Myers, Mark Reynolds, Drew Stubbs and Nick Swisher to Cleveland. In addition to being a fantastic place to watch a game due to great egress and ingress, with extremely affordable tickets, the best promo lineup anywhere, Jacobs Field boasts overall, cooler, less muggy summer weather than most Midwestern locales. The team also lowered beer and hot dog prices to $4 and $3 respectively. What other professional stadium in any sport offers that? I have visited 28 of the 30 current Major League Baseball stadia, and few top The Jake when all angles are considered. I say that as a baseball fan, not an Indians fan. As for the putative “economic” angle, these are the same people who spend insane amounts of money to watch terrible football every fall and show up in decent numbers for putrid basketball in the winter. Irrespective of season length, those sports charge up to 10 times the price for a ticket, and the atmosphere isn’t half as fan-friendly as baseball. I understand fans’ lack of willingness to get on board to some degree. A decent recap of Cleveland’s decade of “rebuilding” can be read here and the team suffered a horrific collapse last August. However, in addition to all the benefits of attending games at Jacobs (now Progressive) Field, fans should also realize the team has potential and often exceeds preseason aspirations at any point without warning. Cleveland hosts the rival Detroit Tigers — heavy favorites to repeat as AL Central champs — Tuesday and Wednesday nights before hitting the road. The temperature should be pleasant at first pitch each evening so you’d expect The Jake to be full to watch the best hitter on the planet right now — but don’t count on it.

Minor Details Ep. 49: Managerial development with Torey Lovullo and Arnie Beyeler

By and large, the focus of development in the minor leagues is on players. Still, there is a developmental path for coaches and managers in the farm system, as is evident from the fact that the previous two managers of the Red Sox' Triple-A affiliate in Pawtucket -- Torey Lovullo (2010) and Arnie Beyeler (2011-12) are now both on the Red Sox' big league coaching staff. They share their insights about the differences between player and coaching expectations in Triple-A vs. the majors, while discussing professional development from the perspective of former minor league managers who aspire to similar positions in the big leagues.
