Dennis and Callahan we go from PGA professional golfer Brad Faxon talking about tiger. Oh man this finger on the polls Ian -- Mike Florio from pro football talk dot NBC sports dot com. To a summit AT and feel like good morning Michael -- outdoor area and we understand it breaking news website that it what it got.
Well and and actually this isn't news as much as its analysis of what's -- out there in New York Daily News reports that the jets will host a Thanksgiving night game. In 2010. And that means by taking the jets out of the mix to play on Thanksgiving at the New England Patriots will play -- alliance. To start at Thanksgiving Day triple that are. It hasn't been confirmed but unless the jets are at play two games in one.
It's gonna happen intrastate. What do you -- the jets the giants kitten well the jets getting their nose out of joint about the coin flip that much ado about nothing.
Well I. -- I'm just surprised it was aired publicly I don't know what the purpose. Of owner Woody Johnson issuing a statement in which he essentially accuses the league office of cheap right -- the patriots aren't alone now but but but being accused of cheating by the jets. And it just makes no sense to me these are things that that folks supposed to handle. Behind closed doors. And if you've got a complaint you make it to the league office should make it to the -- to whomever you just don't make it to the general public -- yet -- does not like to air. Dirty laundry and I'm sure the NFL had a response to what -- Johnson but they're not point issued in the form of a press release so. I don't know whether some other game going on here whether Johnson's trying to curry favor with jets fans. Whether he's trying to pressure the league giving him something else like the Thanksgiving night game or the assignment on HBO's hard knocks it just really was bizarre. And it was out of the ordinary. And I think a lot of people look at it just think that it was -- for him to complain that openly because who cares somebody's got to play the first Reagan there you both gonna play eight games there. It's gotta be someone I don't don't suggest that there was cheating in the coin flip to commissioner conduct.
They also get the first pre season games -- technically they will play the first pro game there before the giants do. And they'll play the Monday night game which might get more yeah more interest I can't imagine commissioner being -- this essentially they called to question his integrity did.
Oh absolutely absolutely and you know I've had jets chance at. All he didn't see any but he cheaters -- folks can you read I mean what why would he be saying what he's saying why would -- be concerned about a secret points flip that he didn't think that there were shenanigans. Going on that's what he strongly implying and and I agree with you guys look. If I had the choice between a regional Sunday afternoon game 1 PM eastern start when like ten games begin at the same time. Or prime time Monday night in the pre season opener right I I think the jets got the better deal. -- once the.
On top of the offseason maneuvering is better than you do in Alaska a month and a half you know would read a lot of stuff on pro football talk about the jets. Not so much about the patriots. Do you think there's been -- a -- power shift in the AFC east of the jets now have the and they moved ahead of the patriots.
Well at least based upon last year's results they have been and that's one of the realities the jets and have to deal with in 2000 -- gonna have a big target on their backs. And everybody that plays them is going to be bring in the eight plus game and that's a real factor the patriots have had to deal with that multiple years the patriots typically deal with that well. And and I think you know we'll find out how the jets can perform as front earners that are -- stuff. From Rex Ryan works well when you're an underdog I don't know how well works when you're supposed to win -- he's gonna have to maybe. Modify his -- little bit I don't know that he can. But yeah I think I think that that plays in the patriots hands I think the patriots would rather be at any given year overlooked. And and disregarded because I think it just helps set the stage for the patriots to come out and and have geeks who wants.
One more jets question for you we all know -- Cromartie makes him a better team -- state paid off folder. All of this angry baby -- his child support issues out of the way race in room with him and -- stuff for any opposing quarterback but how about. Letting Thomas Jones walked and adding LT LaDainian Tomlinson does that make them better roads that leave a hole in their offices Shonn -- gonna carry the load.
Well it's eight it makes for a much different rushing attack and I think that the pursuit of LaDainian Tomlinson might have had. Something to do with the criticism that they experienced after cutting Thomas Jones and then watching -- signed with Kansas City Chiefs. I just don't think Tomlinson is an upgrade I don't think he's as good as Thomas Jones Jones has less wear and chair Jones had one of his best. Career seasons I think it was his career high 14100 to -- you might have one year -- I think that was the best years I mean he had a -- and guided they love in the locker room at it in hindsight it makes no sense and I have been told by a very good source. That the jets declined an opportunity to match the two year five million dollar deal. That Jones got in Kansas City and I don't think it was a coincidence that -- deal was two years five point one million I think Tomlinson wanted it that way. And and I just think it in hindsight it's the jets would've done differently they just -- found a way to keep Tom mr. so for the same money they could have the better player. Well but now I don't know the Jones would have gone an air date that you know the next step if the jets had opted to match -- and who does Jones want to play for. The jets didn't even go there by way of matching but I think what they could've done it should have done maybe try to do when you over got five point eight million for the following -- contract. There's gotta be a way you can negotiated deal it's better for everyone remove some of that money to incentives he. If he has another 5014100. -- season you're happy to pay him five point eight billion dollars I just don't know that the jets really tried. They're ready to move on to Shawn Green and that's fine but then -- bringing -- Dane Thomas.
We're talk we're Mike Florio from pro football talk dot NBC sports dot com Mike could you talk the general managers and personnel people around the league -- of the draft. Whose stock do you sense is rising. Who is falling and who's the guy they can't figure out I think I know the answer the last question what's the typical muscular founding most of the personnel people in the league.
Well you know guys get all the attention in that regard as Tim Tebow works out today in Gainesville it. A tape in a very bizarre move they're opening up the swamped the general public I heard last night they're expecting more than 101000 your show. Sunday's 20000. And I don't know whether they're trying to prove that the kids got drawing power. Bit that he may be he wants you know a familiar and supportive audience there it really makes no sense but. You know what we see today is not gonna be reality because this is going to be the polished up. Tim Tebow with a new throwing motion and all the stuff he's been working on with out of very -- greeting guys and that's pressure and once you apply pressure. You potentially go back to the muscle memory the throwing motion that you used time and time again. And no team won't know that. Whether he'll do that until he's in a live action in the pre season and that's why I think one of these teams because Tebow says welcome it's no holds barred -- whatever -- want to doom one of these teams should bring a couple of defensive -- defensive backs. And you know Russian. And have his his receivers covered in see how he reacts as he goes back -- that Byron -- throwing motion. And and and that they won I don't think they'll do it but that's that they should do is it's only way you're gonna know whether this throwing motion his religion and clergy Golan in the draft. You know take what I I I -- somebody in Pittsburgh and and I I sent an email to him last week after all this Roethlisberger stuff fitness that predict you -- draft and team. And his response was in our around him you know I just think that they I think that day. Are gonna take a long hard look at this guy because they know how to coach quarterbacks. And there are probably confident they look they liked Byron Leftwich I mean if TiVo's got a Byron Leftwich throwing motion so what. Leftwich did well as Roethlisberger back up a couple of years ago and they need the anti Roethlisberger if this thing. Goes poorly over the next month I think the Steelers will have a very strong interest in bringing in a guy like Tivo. -- should know Mike Florio what do you think we will be saying about Tim -- pro career it all depends upon where it goes in this is another reason why the Steelers are a good landing spot you need to have a coach and general manager who will be there long enough for the pay off whatever the payoff will be they're saying it's gonna take multiple years for him to become an NFL quarterback well if you go to a team. Like the jaguars that as -- head coach who may be on his way out the door. And not the kind of long term stability in the steelers' touchdown then he may never get to the point. Where he's going to be as good as he can be and when you start throwing in different coaching regimes. It makes it harder I think for gotta become the best quarterback he can be so I think Pittsburgh for many reasons is the perfect destination for Tim Tebow. And look they gave Terry Bradshaw five years to figure it out and he finally did so I you know I I think that Tebow would have a chance there may be patient with him. And and he would be the right -- mouthwash. For this Roethlisberger experience as your friend in Pittsburgh think is gonna happen with mr. Roethlisberger. Well I and I tell you what my friend in Pittsburgh has confirmed that they are upset with mr. Roethlisberger because whether he's guilty or innocent -- stupid. He's stupid he is definitely guilty of first degree stupidity. And it all dates back to the moment where he drove his motorcycle -- or Chrysler and then the thing in Nevada whatever it is that happened but this one what you have. Best case scenario false accusation of sexual assault already pending against you you don't go into the bathroom stall. With a woman and no witnesses you just don't do it. And and I think that's that's why the Steelers are upset with them. I think one more false move and they're gonna look seriously about moving forward. He's at a point in his contract where it's big salaries come up they still -- 54 million over the next five or six years. And it and I don't think they would hesitate to make that change the Steelers are bigger than any one player. And and he's got multiple strikes now and and I you know and now maybe he'll change maybe he's finally gotten the message. But if he gets indicted it may be too late for you can change. -- like a -- Oh I think they can dump I think it I think fit. If he does one more stupid thing I think they can get rid of them. Whether it's how it goes badly can make -- void his contract. -- what they can't it doesn't matter is I think he's -- most of the guaranteed money on the issue would be just get rid of -- right if you get root for the start of the season then you don't know -- any money you don't like is for guys with four more years if -- their salary comes fully guaranteed and he's he's getting up at eight figure salaries and but I just think that any any you know again even if he doesn't do anything else stupid if he gets indicted it. We're gonna see something and now. The big factor in all this guys is what NFL security is learning with their own shadow investigation I think I don't think I know there was an investigation NFL security did when Mike Vick. Was being investigated by authorities and once he was indicted. -- he's indefinitely suspended by the NFL so if Roethlisberger gets indicted we could see his suspension. We concede you know some I don't know what we'll -- but if that's the next key moment. And it could be a suspension it could be just stern talking to it could be the team doing something it could be that team getting rid of him I just know that his career. Is hanging in the balance right now if he's indicted. You know the dominoes -- where he doesn't play for the Steelers again or as the plane -- a self war you know more years.
It with Kyle Orton now standing next to Brady Quinn in practice will that be beneficial in Denver or will that be detrimental.
Well I think here's the key Kyle Orton is a restricted free agent who has not yet signed this contract for 2009 so Quinn gives them leverage. Because the longer Orton stays away to prove a point. The more Brady Quinn gets the -- in the offseason program gets ready to play when the 2010 season comes along. And he is cheap 700000 dollar base salary they were gonna pick Chris -- 2.5 million for 2010 since has gone 700000 for Quinn. If he takes 70% of snaps this year he gets a five point nine million dollar escalator for 2011. I'd be shocked -- he takes 70% of the snaps so we 700000. Next year I mean this is a cheap and affordable backup quarterback. And maybe there's some upside there and not say what one thing to watch a year from now if -- really doesn't. Become the guy there that they think he could be. The Broncos have Brady Quinn. Who was mentored by Charlie Weis of the chiefs and the chiefs have Matt Cassel who was mentored by Josh McDaniels -- the of the Broncos. And division rivals don't like to do trades but I I tell you why it wouldn't shock me if those two guys and a flip flopping next season.
And one last quick question Mike the patriots obviously are gonna have Wes Welker back -- they didn't. Acquired Anquan Boldin to replace him to get a hear anything about who will be playing. On the other side from Randy Moss who will Tom Brady be prone to until Welker is back.
You know right now that there's nothing going on they were one of the three teams in the mix for Bolden. And I think they're back to the drawing board and and many of my position is has been always will be look if you got a first round pick in the second half. Of the round and there's a guy out there that you can get that first round pick who's proven commodity receiver because when you draft that receiver in round one. You never know what -- again Nancy Chad Jackson right so go after Brandon Marshall. Mean do your homework. Get a feel for whether or not this guy just needs change senior he's been through a lot in Denver he was the target tonight at quarterback Darrent Williams get killed just a case of mistaken identity. From the standpoint of the limousine. The resulted in in Williams being shot not Marshall. And and maybe maybe he could come in and he can be great player and I think that I would I I know I would use my first round pick below fifteen or sixteen. No brainer I would use that number in a martial.
