I find as I get older. More and more I have those moments that unfortunately. I always swore to god I would never have you know those moments when you were a kid grown up. Maybe your mom or your grandmother or your dad in a civil back when I was young you always hated that always hated that -- don't tell me about back when you're young. Doctors school now yeah no shoes snow up to here two miles both ways uphill all that stuff that's right you know that picture food from the land it except like those they Erica so yeah. More and more I find myself becoming my dad with those things and at at the risk of you know. Going back to when my dad was younger. Back when I first started the love the game of hockey. The big bad Bruins who haven't been the big bad Bruins for years. Would never have allowed what happened yesterday afternoon to happen. And I don't want Claude Julian -- that he hopes the league takes a look at it they should match and the commission I don't I don't wanna see Michael Ryder. You know skate to the corner with Matt -- in him a little tap on the backside with -- stick in and say mean things to one. I don't care that they're down by a goal with five minutes left. Right now you're the seventh seed in the National Hockey League right now Pittsburgh is the second seed in the Eastern Conference which means I'll start tomorrow. That's the team you're gonna play and that team just -- you yesterday. There is no way in the world Marc Savard if he got any sleep last night. Feels good when he wakes open and talks to whichever member of the medical staff spent the night -- Ahmanson's -- Nobody did anything.
Nobody I just don't have economic team they don't have that kind of team it's. It really is unfortunate in the in the easy guided target is quote but. The real target map in my mind is Peters to rally because if you have players like that if you acquire players like that you don't have an excuse me not to tunnel. The coach and have to tell them how to react you don't have to tell a hockey player be mad when this happens. It till it. If you've got those guys they don't have those guys including Chara. I know we had this discussion about -- last week you know that he can fight but -- guys don't mess with them -- saying how about once or twice a season.
In this case Zdeno Chara and this is your moment.
This is your moment right here situations like this.
I wanna see you step up as a captain. I wanna see you step up as -- 69260. Pound guy. Wouldn't take any crap from anybody. Will protect your teammates you cannot do this to the Boston Bruins. Is going Dow right now we will let you know this is how it's gonna be you try that again you won't try to get after Iguodala. What -- a message come up from somebody. And talking about it this morning. This -- happened to the Bruins before. -- guys have wrapped up their players. There's no response -- no consequences. Retains. Remember a couple of years ago it was a big hit I think it was a buffalo. And and it was a forward.
Marc Savard dark so barred respondents -- try to stone knows he's not a tough guy and not built to be a tough guy. And never will be a tough guy but he knew what had to be done and he stepped up. I know your first concern is Savard I understand that you're one of the Bruins on the ice your first thought is holy crap is he okay. And it should be followed with -- blinding speed by the thought why that son of up. I mean. The lack of response by this team is chilling if you're Bruins fan and as I said they haven't been the big bad Bruins for years years decades. Since nearly -- they haven't been the big bad Bruins. I can tell you that -- nearly would have thought twice. And and other guys who go back through this.
What sort of going back that far and nearly that the 1990s. What happened. I don't well. I I I don't know what it is I they get out of it Cam -- would have done it. That night Toronto. And Steve Kasper sat him down the gap for sat him down and and Gavin Stevens human Kevin Stephens in Toronto Toronto Canada right. You know what it would have done that to his -- coach a couple of that's -- a pageant. You wouldn't on to another player. Try to do this Tuesday.
Madison -- Matt Cooke is a is a pimple on hockey's -- is a problem and this guy is allowed. To take a blade I and and I love I love first his coach says why didn't see what that -- And then Matt Cooke tells the reporters in Pittsburgh out felt like shoulder to shoulder contact to meet. What a joke. This guy is up bug who -- suspended for these sorts of things already you'll get suspended by the national hockey league for this. That's gonna help the Bruins a lot right. Because I'm not gonna be shocked if they end up telling us in the long to run you know what Marc Savard will be back next year. I mean these concussions are vicious. I mean that the effect they have on players this is a guy who has missed games in the past because of concussions this is either his third or fourth concussion. One album he missed ten games with a concussion. Off specs are cumulative -- read a few years since he's at one what do you next are still cumulus.
Who had one or two it's easier to get others it's tougher to recover from these things. And look at marks of Marxist is the thing that really should drive you crazy here Bruins fan you would get Marc Savard. Away from the icy and you guys and I'm -- some hard core Bruins fans you've seen him. Seem around town -- you see him at an event. It's amazing. He's hockey player you look at them -- looks like. He looks like a guy. -- William might see. On it on amateur soccer team. Not a big man by all that -- now. Very creative -- skilled young playmaker. But but a big guy your year your stereotypical big hockey player now not the guy. So you see this happen to your teammate. It got to step up be have to respond. And the fact that they don't have guys like that who will respond. -- Peter surely know that either he's got the wrong. He's got the wrong vision. It's got the wrong vision for for what it what it takes about a hockey team or maybe not the guy for the job.
I don't know what it is and and I'm I'm -- shock to see a Bruins team. Allow this to happen to a to a guy on their team. And I I I heard char is comments after the game you know -- only care about you know you're just worried about savvy. Well if somebody takes a shot at somebody in Zdeno Chara spam -- My guess is he responds to. And I know that sounds like some some cave man and I I understand any more caveman what they do as a gay man on the team and I I to understand. That bit the modern hockey fan. Doesn't think there should be fighting in the game thinks I sound like a problem -- because I wanted to see somebody on the Bruins. Stick up for their guy who was laying there on the ice unconscious I wanted to -- Yes I'm I'm gone back to my dad I am my dad because back when -- or started watching hockey when I became a hockey fan you weren't allowed to do stuff like that. Without some consequence. And I liked the game better when there was a consequence for that. And if the Bruins play the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Matt -- thinks. They won't do anything what's the big deal wreck so it back -- state excuse excuse me your statement about Don cherry. He was wrong about La -- to but he was right about the -- was right about the Bruins. And maybe I didn't wanna admitted at the time and we want more concentrating on his -- teach comments in particular. He's right about team. You can't -- can't allow that stuff to happen. It just can't let a guy get laid out like that well I I hope the league takes a look at this.
And you can't ever and yet you know this is something new you can't do re there and you just mentioned and you know some modern hockey fans some. Don't want fighting in the game and others are okay with that. But you can not take a you can not taking no hockey. Highly principled stand I mean no fighting highly principled stand.
When they're still allow you when you're still allowed to fight you can't take that stand right now now. Can't tell we're above at all no you've got to play by the rules are rules allow you to do this -- it's right Iran is -- material right now. You're allowed to take the bodies head -- in this.
The darkening the suspension. Get choked up a good job Donovan emotional about it at a that the idea of a start crying and I know you're not -- So what do you feel it's writer Rong it is it is from another area net -- your Neanderthal to do that I'm we'll talk about that. After the game right now. This just happened to my teammate. You're about to report.
My my highly skilled probably the best player on my team not a tough guy. Not a physical force and you take a blatant cheap shot elbow to the side of his head. And maybe indices. I hope I'm wrong about that I hope that he -- Bakken play at some point.
you say and this season and I think. I think that's a real possibility I'm wondering about. His career. Not the that was a nasty is hit right but it just explain.
You don't know what's you have a concussion we have multiple concussions. Not your look at completely differently.
How how is how is this gonna have. -- is gonna play medically what what what's gonna happen when. When people look at exit when when people look at Marc Savard head. At a doctor's gonna come to the conclusion that. One hit away from something really dangerous that you know it just he just had too many concussions.
I don't expect him back this season at all. I think there's a real chance unfortunately I think there's a real chance I I'm I'm heartened by -- by the fact that he wasn't in the hospital last night he was back in the hotel. Which shocked to be honest that he was -- at the hotel and not a hospital last night. Apparently the doctors thought that he was okay in that regard and spent the night hotel and certainly not able to fly with the team to Toronto last night. And you know you'll be able to fly today. He's gonna be checked out by medical people in Pittsburgh and then my guess is gonna end up avenue drive in backer. Train him backers some -- what they're going to be. It just. As a Bruins spam. It just was so disappointing to me. Because it's just not the Bruins team that that I grew up hello and it just it's it's different from what I'm used to.
