It's time for our weekly chat with the president of basketball operations for your Boston Celtics Danny's mr. -- I'm doing finder then account and a nine. New trade rumors since the last time we talked with you I won't go through all line of -- but what about this Glen Davis to a Charlotte any truth.
True a lot going Charlotte yeah. -- I -- are not part of this patriot.
Any truth to it that's I was trying to get it.
Oh I haven't had -- None at all.
What is this stuff gets started. That'll that you hung up on Charlotte felt a new line who could be. Very. -- Just. -- of it is not to say he has said. No denunciation yes sure you stop you. Well did you all we needed while back its pilots don't get back to Ken Rosenthal. -- In here it's amazing how many of these rumors though pop up on a regular basis and I know I'm being a pain in the ass mr. range when it considerably.
Students -- well. It is and it trades and but but.
I think you've just ended it is if if you tell us the truth and I take -- that everything you say in this program is the is that true. US had zero conversations which are.
Right -- stations which Charlotte in other words that speculation that they were looking for or look or act. Reduce. You try to put things together. And I have not at stations. I you know I I like like the player -- You know we like. We like but it was.
A night's big baby can exchange his name back to the dignity of the governor. We're about to happen not yet -- when pretty new products we've done is gone back to of the we ask you this that the fact rumors get out there. You'll end up getting more phone calls from other teams when rumors pop up there. Does that create even more.
Well there's just only -- people so -- just a moment. Distraction. You're always tried their every.
I'm -- but the media do you get -- no number that's on that shot at it other teams all the teams. Now it is not it calls. So now maybe a bigger. Now. --
what was your feeling watching your team. -- the a magic -- nineteen nothing -- eight to 45 to two run I'm Australia I've watched a lot of your team all year long. I don't think I've ever seen them. More passes than what I -- and a third -- almost as if OK just keep on bringing on who did it disturb you.
Yeah it's frustrating watch. It elect we were on -- through. And every Indian -- runs in when you. When a team news is hot there would match that we're just giving up -- it and just not do what it expects it just. Up in price outlook throughout. Opposite -- and it. Just in -- there was. -- In hitting back in the game Psycho I think our guys. Are resting on their optics think it could turn it on and when. -- not -- they're making concert. Here at this what appears.
I I solid doc said that one of the players from the game was over. I said to him were said the somebody. Were better team than they are. That to me was a disturbing statement buffer of players say something like this and I know you said the injuries and I know KG is not the same. It was certain just watching him try to defend Louis and that's use you good matchup for you guys. Is it injuries Danny or it are there more issues there with this team internally with the state.
But.
Hanging up on us again. Good question. --
The the problem. The only problem and -- with -- from the lack of competence and other from losing game like we ought. And you know I've got frustrated that. -- picked up the start out -- camp out. The player was saying that you're always adding wireless thing you know week week can be better than I obviously worked better at that tape back. Can be better we -- like 80. And -- at the right into that were not -- we have a lot of work there.
If this happens if this happens a couple times I get it but when it happens continuously. At home. Against good teams and you've got a veteran players now are young players. I can see them losing confidence you're dealing with veteran players. Arm isn't that something that it that it's of a concern right now.
Absolutely and quest thank everyone concerned in that and an act is a pain in answered the question I thought it thinks internal. Some I I believe usually that things happened internally as things are happening well. How to in the public like winning games are using the Internet banking or leave and so forth but. I think that happens is -- a very big things app eternally while you. You can ought to expect. Thought the little things -- and they currently are usually things that are being. Executed properly out of court.
So very as the GM how do you fix that in do you think that the way to fix it is. By making a trade.
I think I think it's traded one way to exit if the -- if that helps but. I think at. Because you first bought big help. I I figured I'd argue how you're quote I'm a -- at Bristol -- back. And so I don't know. -- So we're gonna try to -- elect we are. But it might have been very small. Tweak the personality.
We're talking about this yesterday and it it if you make a trade for some reason a lot of callers and of people with a tax in this. Think the you can make a trade and bring in a player for Ray Allen let's say. And he's gonna be that instant difference in this team winning. I don't see how that happens if you've built the system if everybody's got a role and suddenly you're bringing somebody and two months left. And a regular season turning it all right if you make a deal. I gotta believe you're giving up an expiring contract to -- player who's younger who's gonna help you next year in the year after that so I come to the conclusion. That the only way you make a big trade here. Is if you actually come to the conclusion. That you can't win it this year is that.
I don't think that at all I think they're all the way to achieve greater rights and I think there's more. I think that there and so although more might as our next week. If there's anything we Utecht -- the best chance to win better this year and still not hurt -- on the road. But sort of explore whether all the credit you know that -- considered. And right now I'm not ready to blow it up now with a very streak player that all of the story well aren't available.
would you say that you're more likely. To make a deal. To -- as you said change the chemistry. Or. Fill a need that you think you don't have the answer to internally.
because I think again and it's all about. Our chemistry is on our guys it guy.
emit -- BI I used them the wrong word that you said something to to change. What you know it is essentially reading between the lines it's not -- May be -- to shake things up a little bit. Verses. You know an actual position it'll or specific need that you feel is lacking from your line.
Explained you don't think it might be to change. Maybe change our approach change -- rotation change our. The way we go out. Are changing player not necessarily the chemistry on the work or out. And I am in sort of personality. That we don't have any backers on -- On this disinterested in. Helping our team get better. But you know a small change sometimes can make. An and a big change it would only happen if that something that. I elected -- this chance to win this year.
When you construct of this team. Would did you could you ever envisioned that they were gonna be playing this way. Or that he would run into these type of problems that you've referenced.
Well I mean we started. We started mr. Like that's and a -- thought we would be going into this year it has here on. In these injuries -- out. But you all we anticipate that the injuries are possible. We really -- at how our team together one being a lot Kursk in -- On course or years -- Well. We're not panic but at this time. We have as many entries as -- out and we haven't been able it is gains with a veteran team against -- others cause for --
I think it says there's been I'm reading and hearing an awful lot. About this team being -- walls and yet if you look at the MBA you look at NBA champions. Over the last ten years. It's usually a veteran team. This team doesn't seem to be too old to me right now they seem to be beaten up right now. With the injuries do you feel confident that between now and the playoffs specially KG you know what the injury as you know what he's dealing with. You feel confident that. He's going to be able to go out there and play the type of defense that allows this team to shut teams down in the fourth quarter again.
You know last year we spent a lot are. Now. Last.
I don't know why are we -- what I kept saying was we are not counting on EG. And that we were hopeful that he might be able to come back but we were ever count on him to -- But we were all. That's what we kept saying over and over. And you know we were we were hope all the way to. That chance and you know -- and -- what happened in this medical stop does not. Is not perfect it's it's just -- guests from pictures and everything else but watch our team doctor -- or assert. -- he he said oh yeah. Like. You know but he couldn't sell it -- evidence that this side of this are much bigger and more. Detrimental to a movement so I mean there was reason I eat it by that we -- Thought that there was a chance that he might dated -- told extra minute or so. You never know -- those things but AG has looked really good at stretches this year and has been gains were. So we are hopeful that he can get back at the weight as -- when we went we have eleven game winning streak. Earlier in the year there's there's no reason to expect that he can't beat back as well played this year. And that's and that stretches and that's all -- trot out trying to you know it Kevin Garnett back to the way it was two years ago.
I based on what I said -- a couple minutes ago here with with the age you don't think this team. -- to all the look at that San Antonio team what 23 year two years ago right they won. An older team I mean. It seems to me that that seems to be part of the formula. Of winning. In the postseason is that. Those veteran teams for some reason maybe it's because of an easier schedule time off in between the fact that they know how to play the game or the fact that the game changes the a little bit slow down a little bit for -- they seem to have more success on the policies of people keep on talking about this team be a tool you make the tool. --
Well let me ask you this does that obviously. Police and with a Glen Davis -- talked to Charlotte the other guy who's been brought up is Ray Allen. Have you got -- do you senses a lot of contrast in the league in other teams acquiring Rleal.
You know at this at this stage. So much as anybody looking to acquire ray we value rate but what else in the league. Put it. What he does for -- but Bible or great value in today's economic climate is. Expiring contracts.
Plus there but that's what. The is in it where do you see along lines of Kevin Garnett. Like Glenn just mentioned that you optimistic that he's gonna keep progressing in get better as the seasons going. You get the sense that they're raised going to be the same way said that yes they -- they're not the oldest team that your resolve but you get the sense that. Pierce ray and Kevin Garnett all are going to be in it in a good spot when the playoffs roll around.
I think very strong possibility. You're Suzuki points and lines to. Get played and I can better. -- little bit of order there. On Monday. That it assert. Afternoon idea all ready to go to a much better.
How do you deal with a situation where you've got a guy that's coming back and ready to play. And you also know how important he especially with -- all the injuries you've had of the second half of the season here. And he's of the All-Star game I mean can you go to woman say. You know I really wouldn't want you to play -- tried to in some way influenced and the coaches say. Maybe we can keep his -- how do you deal with something like that.
Well I think it will go -- could not help Paul Clayton Paul it all always. It's really hard economic -- that it is -- you get ready we have. -- And I think Eric made it like to play and they want it I -- don't wanna -- column not a player that dealt with them and go through the long term. That benefits of not playing -- Electric the other guys go sometime but the archives sitting out like they get the rest. On other days all the good first. I don't like we meet in super pulled a really good the first and second half against Orlando beat you it was not. And you know we give on the options we go through. The options at some point like like -- We had a conversation one night EG a plane and let's not play in Rwanda was bad it has taken him out of here. With storm inadequate training was not. So there are times we make decisions you're not apply. As players have that -- set it -- grateful for that mindset there's a lot of players around that don't. So we don't wanna discourage -- and beat -- guys. Implying but we want the smart especially --
A Phil Jackson had basically when asked about Kobe Bryant play in the All-Star game insinuated that there is some sort of policy pressure but less pressure from the league because it was such a big deal that. The sell X amount of tickets for the All-Star game. You get -- you get that sense at all from the league dead okay you know what. You don't have to he's they're saying that you don't have to have them play but we strongly recommend that he played he can.
Well this thing is apparently branded complained. Yeah but you have to be here for all we -- All the festivities like he's also are yet to be aired out you'll. Activities that the players are required you. Eric. And I collect all situations he's got to be practice and have you know of getting ready for a three point contest. Plain -- and it's that game it's almost like like a easy work out. That I am just haven't beat it without any activities to the.
As -- quite fascinating a 100000. And an NBA All-Star game which is pretty president. I guess it puts less pressure and everybody when you get people calling you for tickets or whatever right I think yeah an upper. --
The art of match and it's not a thousand good.
because it is an unimaginable. I'd ever heard everybody. Give advice for those taking on Rondo in competition forced. And they say go to the free throw line go to -- out of whatever I give it the other way your. Mentoring. Rondo you're telling Rundle how to win the worst game. Against Iran against the competition what would you tell the -- as well.
Well and it is he's got a hat -- because you re not going to be able we air anybody else I don't know what the rules or are you try to scene shot over Google her or -- your shot letters and look and I don't have one bit of interest in or sculpt. Haven't thought about it at all.
You three point contest right ones -- In a couple. Who did not do. I did OK. Okay outlets and my cup -- PO market jumpsuit it's really good. Actors were notably some.
guys that have to quick release right and guys that did that have been the most successful of the quick release to the appointed time to spot up those would go balls a multi colored balls or whatever you get extra points there.
Yeah -- about the core -- you know Larry. All of Larry Elder David Perry would create competition is so strong it is -- that is. You don't strike is shot what is stressed it used it yet quick relief. And it is great.
And he was busy bitching at the officials to its name is -- was inside the line. I -- did enjoy the enjoy the All-Star game and enjoy the trade deadline we'll talk to you next week right about the time. Our faculty of any president of basketball operations for the Boston Celtics.
