So I'm driving along yesterday in the crummy weather in the awful. Road conditions but I got to drive and I gotta go and and -- listed of the dale and Holley show. I'm -- I think myself. And I hope Michael Smith is happy -- PM. I help Michael Smithfield likes what he's -- on the course and I I I hope that you know it's a long and happy career that he has there because. It really could it. Wait too long since we've had him on this radio station as a co host a three year three plus years three and a half years he's real.
Some people. Like present company. The people have faces for radio. I haven't. Bases for TV -- Susan them to. And life unfortunately all good things come and he has the expertise so he's going to be he's going to be fine. To put him on radio would be a waste of his his talents and abilities.
He's really good it was fun to listen you guys I like let's listen up through Richard Seymour. And and at that point I've got busy and had to do some stuff and didn't get a chance to listen after that. I thought the Seymour in fact I satin listened to the whole Seymour interview -- put off doing what -- without actually out doing. I was fascinated listening to -- even if I don't believe everything you told -- what don't you believe well.
Smalley said there were no negotiations guess he tailback and at that jumped out at me and I'm on -- what we've heard. Elsewhere and he had thought I had pretty get information that contract negotiations going on so. Always talk about putting your your sources on probation so either the source goes on probation. Or Richard Seymour. Has a different interpret interpret interpretation of what a contract negotiation is.
Well and it's certainly possible were talking about a semantic argument here in net and that you know. They didn't go back and forth 67 times. And and so he didn't consider the negotiation if it was simple if it was as simple as Richard this is what we think RRR offers going to be. -- Adams is what are you nuts. Come on. It's not even close to where I was and then he just says not this did this is neat as well -- that it isn't a negotiation it's they made an offer we said no we moved on. I I've -- looking handled himself very well I'm not surprised there we've known him for awhile now. He's a very intelligent articulate guy I love talking to my always have I was sorry that I didn't get a chance talk with -- yesterday. I also quite honestly sit there looking at my radio on my card on.
You really wanna -- Oakland radical all packed Oakland. Hand he said a few times or talent level is very high we're border we've we've got some building get some building blocks in place. We've got to learn to do some things better on not. -- it is hard for me to believe them Michael Smith said the same thing really don't go back to Oakland and B SATA the second time is -- twice.
I mean I understand I -- that if he sat in the raiders' locker room and a and the media it's all stay in and around them. You know and any any -- of them in after the sixteenth game of the regular season -- course at one welcome back here you know we've got some things going on -- I understand that completely. -- He set up a month since his last game he's in Atlanta watching. A playoff football game with Rodney.
And ask yourself how close are read to being in this position where we're competing for a chance or Akron where we're like the jets. And the colts in the vikings in the states -- one game away from the Super Bowl. How close are we to that situation. Right now in Oakland the answer has to be. Imus and not a very got us NFL things are are pretty quickly but you gotta feel like you're ways off now that there are a couple of things. It could be going on with America be a method to the madness number one. He could say don't self. If I if I wanna be a hall of Famer. I need to make. Another Pro Bowl or to and I need to be identified as a guy and and this is that necessarily true maybe thickness and it to be identified. As the guy who. It was not a journey. I played for a couple of teams. I played at a high level for a couple teams. You know after Robles in New England -- and Oakland right two of the two of the signature franchises despite what you -- on Oakland. That's to the signature franchises and in the in the modern NFL. You know Oakland Oakland Raiders still mean some.
Do they really now says filming some I mean it sounded to be the only thing he had I don't I know -- commitment was that you reform I don't buy the whole commitment to excellent thing that -- keeps but NASA I think if -- so far. Past. It's it'd been so long since and commitment to excellence even though the gruden Super Bowl year and I'll and I'll give them the the blip on the radar screen here. Silver and black doesn't mean anything in fact to most people now silver and black means a bad joke. It's a bad joke in the NFL at the punchline right it's you know Al Davis with the kitty cross in his -- on his way to fire Tom cable it's in it is that it's Tom cable. Punching an assistant coach and taking his jaw it to me there there is no legacy there for the Oakland Raiders --
Just development the last eight years have been pretty pretty miserable they went to the Super Bowl. And lost to the -- Buccaneers. In 2002 and since that time. They really haven't been a threat at all you haven't thought about the raiders but that's still eight years ago. They really have they completely. -- that they become a complete joke in eight years where you don't think about. The past you don't think about. 2002001. When they're on the doorstep against the patriots. 2002 to go to Super -- Rich Gannon is the MVP. Are they forgot that I have for me day are there if that they are that are like that that -- he wanted to things that we think a big and the raiders they pay.
This. They're kind of like the West Coast. Redskins. -- that's what he's meant may. -- look at the most money from. You know what I would stay here he said that he talked to mr. Davis before he laughed then and maybe that's -- and our love them says you know you're going to be that. That the highest paid defensive -- of the franchise and all look what's not to like he's he's a terrific player job. I I like Camelot both personally and professionally so what's not to like maybe it is that -- just make the most money there. -- it in almost. And I really like Richard a lot but it almost seemed like when he was talking about. Who was that he was talking about if if five if the colts make the soup double. Then you know -- can't play in the pro ball maybe I'll get my sixth probable or. Okay technically he'd be right and it's almost like he's begging for another probable spot because he's counting on those Pro Bowl berths is being. Deciding factor US to opt out the possibility of a hall of fame and -- well maybe if Dwight Freeney gets to the Super Bowl you know they'll have to replace him around on the Pro Bowl team. I just. Sound a little weak that part of it.
Well you don't want. And we had a a couple techsters yesterday's they were Richard really loves himself doesn't. Well. I'll say this in May be does and as we used to say united you don't who will protect against Oklahoma and I have probably got loving himself. But this is just in response. To the criticism that he has gotten. A richer -- you make the plays like he used to make choir at the numbers there and we asked these questions you can either take Jairo. Which a lot of people wouldn't do let's -- yeah I think about your own situation where you do. If somebody is criticizing you saying they don't like your -- your accounting. You were teaching. And why isn't it better you can say while. You're entitled to your opinion sir madam. -- got -- you can say women. Look at what I didn't hear. How many teachers are doing this -- I don't some of these guys they have the same. They have the same teaching plan 1975. Obama gain plant specific history teacher. I switch it up from year to year to year to year but I don't get credit reports so he's basically defending himself which I he has every right to do and -- and I'm from a.
Doll look I likable and it was fascinating listening to him yesterday. You know -- He answered the questions he talked about his time here he talked about the departure from here which I wanted to hear him. Talk about I wanted to hear how it all came about and and what he felt that and I understand completely. About the whole thing with with the family I mean people don't know Richard's family situation. He's got more than just his own kids he's got to worry about he has brought in at least one maybe more children. From outside of his immediate family that that he is now responsible for raising and you know -- All of a sudden you get traded the Sunday before the season starts and you know you gotta worry about schools and get your family situated I understood all of that and I I actually applaud him for all. I I have no problem with any of that but I also think he was the evil. I think he was just.
Flummoxed. And untreated where -- why -- him first well you're right. Any I was traded. It's shocking yeah actually traded and I thought it was finish this season with the patriots may be and then got to -- our act. But I'd at least finish the season here. -- was traded to the -- raiders the trade -- beat -- radio -- and that was the best deal you can get. I'll go up for you gotta first round pick but I am now an Oakland Raiders this is shocking. Probably was and he probably -- little time to get his feet back underneath but not if he did he set a lot of good things and I liked what he had to say about the modernized some of them. Modern NFL players who are more concerned about. Of the trappings of NFL. Than winning football games than. There's been a shift in the eighty Hewlett -- between the lines are just take what he said at face value and he's saying. These are not. These are not 2000 force patriots these are these in the united beat 2000 seven's patriots. Where there isn't the same. Attention to detail now is about -- assassinated and -- they pass out winning. Down there now than than the crowd if they used to be there used to be there in. May 07 maybe it started. Trickle trickle away -- 07 despite. Undefeated season in heart you know but obviously it didn't trickle in 07. -- may be -- wait and then this year and he's talking like a guy. That I sell anybody out. But he's got friends on the team. Who sawed off. In deference to team were part of at least two super balls. And one guy on the team. Or a couple of guys on the team who were part of three Super Bowl titles right and I think he's getting some pretty good at inside information. About the psyche that franchise.
I I will also say this another area where I I don't think he's necessarily telling the truth I think that there is a 1% chance of this happening. But if the patriots had the biggest and best free agent offered Richard Seymour I don't believe this the story is close. You know I've turned the page it's time to move on with my career I don't believe that. And I also don't believe the patriots would have the biggest and best free agent offer to win but if they did it. And I know he was pretty he was pretty blunt with you when you asked him you know would you would you consider coming back here -- don't know I've turned the page that that part of my career is over. I just never believe anybody when they said.
Said the biggest offer that's what it would take. -- beat the patriots would have to have the biggest okay so there's a 0% chance ice at 1% but not even is just not gonna happen I don't think he would wanna come back. If they have the biggest offer like twice as much terror twice as big as everybody else's. -- they keep you think about it but we know us are gonna happen. I think you he. He took the high road yesterday I think he just has no interest and now reuniting with with a Bill Belichick and the patriots.
I think there's very little and I and I agree with that. I just you know whenever they say that a door is closed on -- that doors closed now. It was believed that enough money can prop open but. I also agree with the -- that the chances of that happening are pretty slim do you explain something to -- might might NFL connected. Something here. Hello the Buffalo Bills Lincoln. During -- held coach. Says who. I know they'll say that it daily I know bill say that today young Gailey is their anybody in the National Football League. Forget about would would hire Chan Gailey is -- coach was there anybody who would even interview him. At the same thing about Joe Torre yankees. Sorry I yeah I don't believe -- daily Joe Torre. I'm not making that connection you I mean honest to god and I mean this I well I mean this. They'd be better off with Marty Schottenheimer who we've talked about for a weaker of two hours Marty would be a much better coach -- he's changing he's a good coach guys that -- probably Chan Gailey is a good coach at all. -- he sure hasn't looked like one. And in the very brief opportunity of the brief chance that he's dad -- great. I mean you EEU you wonder take a worldwide nationwide search you you kick every tire out now what people -- out as I -- yeah that's a factor. They were -- and throw out again don't know where Marty was asking for. Marty says shall be coat. And the six millimeter at a navy. I'm I'm guessing Chan Gailey probably came cheap as there were a lot of lot of other options forum and it can be accurate figure out what they think it.
And it could be it could be they needed a coach was very comfortable with working. A working with the general manager general manager who would have final say. Because there -- a lot of coaches and only now who don't have the title but they do have. No. A great deal of influence. When it comes to the draft -- free agency. For example I'm Mike Tomlin in Pittsburgh. Nobody says Mike Tomlin is a coach and general manager. No they've got their personnel department they've got their coaches you know Kevin Colbert of the great job right Pittsburgh. Mike Tomlin. As a very strong say in who they draft it's not like Kevin Colbert is gonna tell him we're trapped in this guy it's the other way around. Though so maybe he wanted to situation like that may -- buffalo that's gonna happen.
At a time when and the New York Jets or go to an AFC championship and by all accounts and and everything that I've seen. Have made great strides in the AFC east where we think Bill Parcells. As has begun the process they took a little step back this year but we feel confident with Parcells running things the dolphins are gonna. Continue to progress the patriots -- the AFC division champions at the moment although the jets are clearly the best team in the division at this moment. Is there in the AFC championship because they're trying art and they're playing. How the bills think that they've done anything to help close that gap. I mean if anything that gap just got wider for. I can't figure it out I mean other -- the fact they were sick of being turned down. And they just want it's somebody who wouldn't turn them down --
No I mean I don't know who who the best coach for them would be I hear your Chan Gailey I don't think anybody gets excited I don't think they sold. You know 5000. New season ticket packages when they announced. Well when they plan announced that at 2 o'clock don't think they'll be a rush to the box offices the box office but. Who's supposed to coach his team we've had so many. Coaches over the years. Meet so many coaches since Bill Belichick has been here. I don't know the right guy is he might turn out to be --
Well I don't think so -- that you're you're right maybe -- all recent years sand -- remember what folks in Cleveland we're saying when the patriots hired bill ballot tech. But man I just don't see it. A couple of things that got us a little baffled will get to those men will begin to a lot of other things as well Jack and Jackie -- Mueller will join us at 1202. Where ninety seconds away from the rest of the agenda for you here on Sports Radio WE yeah.
