I sort of feel like. That priest in now. In the in them movie of Da Vinci code you know where he's got the chalice wrapped -- his leg therein. You know he causes -- to himself and whips himself on the back. You know with whips and stuff as a -- is that that's horrible we get by playing John Sterling this morning. Little self flagellation here as we are heard enough arms I request I don't. Why I said we got here at.

I can get worse and get worse and John Sterling can actually listen to these. These gloating. Self congratulating. Yankee fans isn't it great to be us we won 27 world titles the Red Sox are at home. Where the best who got the captain Derek Jeter Alito. -- Five rings. Jeter has now oh and you always count on Andy.

This is the day. Alex Rodriguez became yeah.

Hundreds more than one of these celebrations is really something yeah. I didn't get violent -- apparently got checked the question is -- Happy -- series not just yeah.

Okay got worse. Yeah I don't think I -- and I'll cut it get a lot acknowledged it did not lobby where you know that -- dollars if your problems are as deep as John Sterling then you've lived a pretty good life because. John -- this officer these soft serve -- finally you know he's got a script you know what's coming. It's gonna -- the same thing no matter what happened the Yankees won the World Series last night and he had that same call. Gain 94. In all I mean -- help. Especially won the World Series.

It's funny because a couple of days -- we were wondering if if Johnny Damon note John Damon. If John big John now I think he's John and John Damon that if John Damon had you know through the the efforts in the playoffs the World Series earned himself a new contract from the New York Yankees. Well last night. -- Becky Mets that we may have Mike oldham. I mean it's -- at least the MVP of the World Series and now the question has -- season changes are they almost gonna feel obligated to bring. The World Series MVP back whose contract is up -- Wales was. Or they just gonna move on now I heard -- can say this morning with John and Jerry. That the word in New York is that it will either be -- holiday and -- Holliday in left it will not be Matt's a weird game. Well -- matzo is not even left fielder Matt who is that the age but that that they will not bring those guys back. Well. I can imagine Matsui would be DH this point but. That that they wanted to have known that they'd want him back it's you know when you spend as much money is he'd tell you'd think it. You can do better than that not maybe they'll they'll be happy with putting Holliday in left letting Damon walked John Damon. And bring in Matsui back is the DH and go from there.

Last buster today 11 o'clock buster only of ESPN. Who knows baseball in general he really does but he's a former beat writer former baseball columnist for the New York Times. So he he knows the Yankees extremely well he's written a book on the Yankees you've got traffic sources throughout the game and still great yankees sources. So we will talk to -- only about all things baseball on all things yankees. On -- me.

It was it was -- it was pretty obvious pretty early on that Pedro Martinez. I mean you know we were talking in game two where he was -- 88 and you gotta be crafty in -- to get away with that when you're topping -- 85. It's tough to be even crafty.

Why can't I mean I said the earlier today and what's your name his last name is Byrd BYRD. Bird as in Paul Paul Larry unless your last name is bird. You really can't you really can't get it done thrown 8485 miles an hour. On a consistent basis and Tim carver was all over very early. Ball for Pedro is an 85. And as you said it's not gonna get better and didn't.

Now now it if you start that way you know it's cold November night it's forty some degrees it's not like he's going to loosen up. And the fastballs gonna get quicker and I I I'm sure the Phillies knew early on we better score a bunch Iran's against Andy pattern that we can't.

In this well if they knew that. I irregardless is unconventional but you gotta be unconventional when you're down in the series yeah. You're down three games to two. Your guy on the mound has already given up a two run job. Hideki Matsu.

They're facing that's going again. Guys throwing 85. Miles an hour you've got two out I know it's very early. Be dipping into the -- but it can't get Matsui out while ironically. Work in the side of the street I was on yesterday. Which was you can't -- taking chances with Pedro what what I don't know I don't and I know we were talking about early to get it going great pitch count. You can't leave him in in that situation. And and you not PS actually you can't you've got to have a lefty. With a little more old. Your behind out -- we talked about that whole Yankee lineup they at seven lefties the only two right decent lineup last night were Jeter and and Rodriguez. You had to come up with a left handed pitcher in that situation you couldn't let Pedro try to work his way out of it he I look at -- said he Grady Little moment.

A no no no not not know I don't I don't believe that because. If you take Pedro. Of 2003. Who's throwing faster than the Pedro last night. And -- in the same situation Lieberman there Soledad definitely there is no way Pedro I'm talking about the guy we saw last night. -- would already given up a home run to -- Who was throwing 85 miles an hour who was in trouble when he. He's got moxie he's got charisma I get all that he knows how to pitch like he was in trouble. And he's got too much pride. You like like it a basketball game more football game put your hand up for the coach's seat pick me out coach and -- little breather to get too much pride do that the conduit. So it is up to it is up to Charlie Manuel take on the situation I don't feel good about it at all. I'm like all right well god -- a year in it's a girl would be gone -- Richard -- you do about it copper institute you need to win this.

The only disagreement we have I agree with you 100% on that the only disagreement is it's the exact same thing. After Pedro comes to the dugout points to the sky and hugs everybody go by and Grady goes down -- had someone to go back out there 1 morning it was just as dumb then as it was less --

Could I don't I don't see the connection between 2003 and last -- completely different situation whereas. Pedro had finished an inning and then went back to the dugout in sat down put his jacket on who's receiving hugs from his teammates and the situation it was.

He was having very much faith in Pedro Martinez. Grady Little had too much faith and it had a perfectly good and and by the way. High performing bullpen back in 2003. And in in Charlie manuals case. Heat he could see what you could see what I could see he had too much space. That -- Pedro Martinez could get him out of this somehow and not enough faith in the guy that he would bring.

Out of place but still I think it's still think it's apples and shipment when talking about 2003. And last night completely different situation. Different game situation. Different pitcher. -- different consequences everything this it's just completely exact same -- don't tell don't know why -- you lose you go home well virtual. You had the seventh inning in 2003 versus the third inning third or fourth inning.

You knew we didn't have that I knew we didn't have a Charlie Manuel had to know we didn't have a he left him now as Schilling pointed out it it probably in the long run wouldn't of mattered. In this regard the Yankees probably would have gotten hits they needed to get. They -- pitched the way they needed to pitch they would've won the game at Schilling was convinced that what he took him out or not the game result would've been the -- Maybe you give yourself half a chance if you take them out. You know half a chance where the minute he gives up -- other two run hit and your down for nothing for -- point you think and -- were done.

In that situation. I could have. I can understand leaving him in against Jeter. They were. Mark Teixeira. This anybody else that the guy who would already homered off. In this game not only homer off from in this game -- homered off that off him in game two on a pitch that. He had no business taking out of the ballpark so it's clear that Hideki Matsui. Understands what -- are trying to do documents always the World Series MVP because of paper.

at this ironically only had thirteen at bats never set foot on the field never played the field at all. At just thirteen at bats now he did lead the team with -- eight runs batted -- Six of them came last night it was one of those weird strange sorts of of statistical quirks almost that he became the the MVP was the right choice. But you think about it thirteen at bats you inoculate runs European play half the time in and you get the MVP.

because of some of the other guys struggled offensively. And he was the one who who turned the series' -- series around when they were down one zip. Bio by hitting a home running game to. Any change the game last night profanity game seven any thoughts of the game seven very early. With a couple of a couple of hits and his first who would bet so what got to give it up to -- They're the champs. They're the best team in baseball. And they have reminded us. That the Red Sox have a lot of work to do the Red Sox aren't aren't. Just a move away from getting back to the World Series and doing what the Yankees get an -- Dustin Pedroia we would play that clip. All last post season a Pedroia hey we get the same team we had last year and we were. We were one game away from going to the World Series against Tampa so I like our chances well. Things happened very quickly in baseball. The waters have changed. It's over the Red Sox are no longer dictating. What happens in the American League east they're they're they're chasing the Yankees now.

And to put it in perspective for people okay. And you don't like this argument or this a line of talk sorry but I gotta go there anyway. You know what I like the Red Sox the Red Sox team payroll this year. Was closer to the San Diego Padres who were twenty ninth out of thirty. The Red Sox were closer to the pod racing team payroll than they -- the Yankees. There are haves and have nots in the Red Sox are one Alba hats I freely admit they are one of the -- They spent 84 million dollars less than the Yankees it. 84 million and now -- could they have spent more yes and they and they can and well. Can they even play on the same on the same field that the Yankees are on the -- And neither can embody financially bathroom talking about it that -- you it it's not even close. They they went out last year in the offseason and spent half a billion dollars on baseball players. Half a billion dollars in one offseason other Red Sox couldn't even album dream they didn't think tickets spend a 180 on one. So you going to next season knowing. That you have a competitive disadvantage you when everybody else in baseball you have an advantage over some other teams. But for the team that's in your division. And who was the defending World Series champions you have such a huge competitive disadvantage. That you've got to be pretty darn good at what you do to overcome it is just money. It's just money just money but it's it's more like I said there was an 84 million dollar discrepancy between the Yankees and the Red Sox. The Red Sox have have at a 122. Million dollars. They are closer to the San Diego Padres so they art of the Yankees.

Let me ask -- this. -- talking about money is money. The reason the Red Sox didn't go for this year. I yes okay yes art and that's the answer let's go back let's go back to the one -- almost gonna for the offseason. If if the Red Sox get marketshare -- in the World Series. I can't answer yes -- in the World Series but I I mean I don't know reasoned and well here I'm just telling I want yes I felt if you take to share away from them. And -- the Red Sox I think there's a huge difference in the gap between the -- tell me how money would have changed the 2009 season for the Red Sox. What what could they have done what should they have done. That would have turned their season well.

I I Marty said had they sign Teixeira okay. Of the greatest need on their team and they knew what in the offseason that's why they offered the highest contract in the history of the Red Sox. But they didn't offer enough to get it done and and probably the most viable free agent in the next coming last year. The next 34. Free agent classes everybody could see it everybody knew Red Sox know what that's why they went to the links they did. Yes if they had signed Teixeira and not the Yankees I think there's a huge difference -- were on their World Series champions I can't answer yes they are I think they've got a lot better.

Answered you did maybe it and understand my question I said. If if the Red Sox had more money with they have won the World Series. We US meet with money the difference in China and I would say yes okay so you barely -- what I answer the question. I look I cannot see hear and say yes the Red Sox win the World Series of -- Teixeira. I'd be stupid to make that claim. I think there's a gigantic difference if you take Teixeira off that team and -- to this team yeah I think the gap clothes is pretty significant gap closes but. The Red Sox still struggled to hit in the postseason I don't think again -- would have made -- how -- policies. Michael I know I I understand but but you're making it sound as though if you will with the Red Sox that's exactly what would have done.

And how well guess what I I would like the I would think so I mean there's no pressure on him. It be more pressure on him here unfair because think of hitters got the guides will be -- god guides. Would multiple you know Derek Jeter multiple.

World Series titles. The Yankees fans expect Derek Jeter to go to deliver in the clutch. They expect Alex Rodriguez to do it even though he's never done before they didn't expect -- you expect Jorge Posada to do what they expect they expect the documents are -- to do it. You know Johnny Damon Robinson -- know all these guys all of these great hitters. Important sure it's -- her eyes look at him like okay. Oh we paid to a lot of money. You're supposed to be the difference maker. The slugger in this lineup you are these -- Not David Ortiz anymore do you.

so so I make it simple that. Is it is there are you telling me then that if the Red Sox had signed Teixeira instead of the Yankees that there would have been no difference I think the Yankees -- won the World Series. And the Red Sox would still -- you know.

I don't utterly -- Mark Teixeira is that is the difference and can you talk about you know that the spending -- 84 million dollars away from the Yankees -- close to the San Diego Padres. What I'm try to get you to say as you said it would Mark Teixeira. That's part of the answer but I don't think it's enough. Where it didn't they spin last year where they should.

Well that was the one though they'll get a single biggest need day that they know what they knew going -- Which is why they they went as high as they did they didn't go high enough. Now you can make an argument and I I feel and that's -- has made -- I I think he's had a --

I think I think it's advocates said. And I don't mind disrespect in the Yankees at all but I think it's it's really trivializing. What the Yankees just did this day. That if you take market share from the Yankees yankees don't win the World Series. I don't buy that that they brought in the big dog what they need it was an -- The candidates' performance consistently. Regular season and postseason from CC sabathia. Then they got AJ Burnett.
