Going -- still -- just. I guess can I leadoff -- to have -- all right now I guess that my first thought is that. I wish football is more like baseball where at the trade deadline there is a lot of hot stove discussions I mean we know that it's next Tuesday at. Do you have any thoughts on on whether we might see any big name players moved to by the deadline.

Like getting a bit of the guys who get the best chance with a name. The movie Shawn Marion and although. I just don't think the chargers are going to get a fair value offer for Shawne Merriman because he's hurt right now. And it he he's got a growing injury he hasn't been able to show the old Shawn Marion and I think because he was out last year -- the knee injury. And I'm sure that a lot of people have lingering questions about his substance there is. -- steroid related suspensions. For four games. I doubt he's gonna get an offer that's going to attempt. And AJ Smith is India offered it's going to attempt a lot of the other -- right thicker probably not gonna happen I mean it makes sense for Terrell Owens to get traded. Because of buffalo could give -- three or four for Owens he's basically our rent a player. You know they've that they it would make sense but. It ought to hold very reliably that the bill absolutely categorically here not to -- Terrell Owens. And that they believe that because of their success against the jets in recent years. They think they can salvage their season. With a win against the jets. Until Sunday. Now obviously -- losing go to wanna -- going to be all kinds of pressure -- to make moves but I am told that won't matter. That they're not gonna treat Owens with ten games ago. And I think a lot of the other ones that make the most sense the browns are saying they will not trade. Either Josh Cribbs or Brady Quinn the Brady Quinn what makes absolutely no sense to me they've given up on Brady Quinn. And it makes no sense for them to hang -- equipped. Because the only thing that this team should be concerned about right now. Is getting -- any draft picks skating it's much currency. You know very strong 2010. Drafted they can't but there at least saint right now that we will not treat went.

Do you think that there's anything to the to the idea. You know of of trades just not happening in the league because of the timing.

Or is always say I'll write it and I think Gail welcome here I've had somebody questions the last few days. On Twitter and and all these various things that. And you know -- park shows this week talking about this and and that this thing very try to explain to people is that. The reason the NFL has been treating deadlines so early. Whereas baseball has its so late in in football it's 13 of the way through this season. And in baseball. You can trade. You know two thirds of the way through these. And the differences very simple the NFL feels like it's sixteen regular season games. Our precious and even if the team is to win nine. They believe that they would tend to be some fire sales which would negate the importance. On the last four -- five games of the year in the competitiveness. For. Some of the moribund team. So even though I think it would be best for competitive balance. In the NFL because it -- penis to win nine. I've I've always that I think teams ought to be -- ought to be able to trade up to week twelve. And in other reason is that it pertains to what nine. And the most important thing on the air horizon. Is the draft the following year why shouldn't they be able to treat -- Pro Bowl linebacker. Somewhere. For a third round pick of the -- in next year's draft it doesn't make any sense not to but the league is showing no signs of bending down.

Peter it's sort of leads to my next question and look at this Kansas City 015 Oakland one and four buffalo Cleveland Saint Louis Tampa Bay. These teams look awful to Meehan and I'm wondering if if given -- we have so many of those this early in the year maybe it will seem more deals and mean -- imagine they assert their more bad teams. Earlier than than there have been in the past.

I yeah there's no question Mike I think in the 25 years I've covered it I don't remember such a disparity. I mean I don't know I if I were really industrious I'd look up the -- the find out. If pat you know entering week six. If there were five undefeated teams. And for winless teams I mean it seems like a lot to me. The difference between. You know very good and very bad is furious is extremely per ounce. But I just I think it's a coincidence more than anything else. You look at Tampa. New general manager new head coach. They got rid of an awful lot of veteran players there you look at Saint Louis. Same general manager but new coach and instead of drafting the -- mandate quarterback Mark Sanchez and they went for the long haul and the first two picks are potential left tackle a middle linebacker goes article Winfrey tomorrow. Tennessee know once I saw that coming I didn't think Tennessee was gonna be that good and I think it's because right. Just really didn't trust -- talent to be what he was last year. And then put into city. I mean nowhere has there been a change. Like there has been put into -- city where -- Scott Pioli versus Carl Peterson. Is basically like for you know the Red Sox versus the reds. I mean anticipated. Total different way of doing business both of money in philosophy so. All those places in my opinion should have been expected is that taken major step back.

You move to Boston and the NFL owners' meetings or in Boston I don't think there's a coincidence to of those things -- and I. We gotta have I would be doing a great those great planning my partner word even here. Are you surprised that commissioner Roger Goodell. Was as forthright and as strident as he was in his comments about the Rush Limbaugh inclusion into the Dave Checketts ownership group.

If you would ask me what I thought Roger Goodell would have said about that is is right body would've said. Work. You know we don't talk about prospective ownership groups. And all -- for all comments on that so yes I was a little bit surprised. But I think one of the things he was doing as he was saying the players. I've got your back on this one. And in the vast majority of players in the NFL I shouldn't say that -- I believe the vast majority of players in the NFL. Would have some problems with Rush Limbaugh I think he's just trying to. To say hey you know work work behind you and what you think but. You know -- the biggest. Thing about Rush Limbaugh has very simple. That the NFL you know as as frightening. As the concussion problem is that the NFL and and and and knee injuries and potential strike and all these problems on the horizon. Any time you hear -- distraction. Indeed it's almost in the same league with those serious issues because the NFL is very big on the -- we don't want any distractions and I can just envision. Rush Limbaugh being an owner of the team and the beat writers listening to -- show. Evidence show a lot of the background of oppressed group -- listening to your face something. Incredible that they go into the locker room -- say hey -- owner Jess said blob while block I mean for instance. What would have happened this year. If you went into a media can't practice and Mike Reid is going over to the patriots and he goes committee can't practice any have some very responsible. People. On the team. What do you think about Rush Limbaugh saying that he hopes president -- I mean it's things like that are going to make headlines they're going to make news. And I just think if the NFL whatever they're mean they're leanings were politically. I think eighty. And out front. Big time political. Disgust her. On the radio or in any venue we weather could be you know part of the -- article left is gonna create big problems for the NFL.

Peter you do you feel it's too early to be talking about head coaches on the hot seat and and what are -- areas you're watching here in in the weeks ahead in that regard.

Buffalo Bills haven't made any in season coaching change since 1988. When they dropped ankle from our Levy. I don't believe they feel that. -- fuel their defensive coordinators the next Marv Levy. So although I wouldn't be shocked if Ralph Wilson made a move I mean they're put into billboards up in buffalo this week. One of them says fired Jerod prior remote -- leaked prior guy which Tom mode Greg and John Guy here that cheap collagen pros doubts. I mean they're getting the same kind of intense. Pressured fired coach. A you know that that hope that a lot of teams are getting but it's going even worse in buffalo. I would I would guess that unless it got really bad. You know one sided loss to the to the jets may be this week if they can be competitive I don't think -- make it change. But they're definitely gonna make change after the years similarly. I think it that the insider doesn't wanna make changes in Washington there's no doubt about it but. I do believe a couple of more bad losses and he'd probably change it go to great blocks for the rest of the year might hear they hear the odd. Things involving. -- in coaching changes that nobody has really focused on the fact I'm just writing a little thing on this for Monday Morning Quarterback right now is there was that the air. You realize is that if you make a change in the middle of the season. And you bring in an interim coach. -- You have to do you can hire an interim coach from your staff and just make immediate term coach. -- but if you brought in a guy from the outside let's say that the popular one that it could happen anyway but the popular one has been Mike Shanahan. The Washington if you brought in Mike Shanahan the end Snyder would have to interview. A minority coach right now who is currently unemployed. Two. Satisfied that the Rooney rule and they wouldn't be able to give -- the job permanently. They would have they would give in the draft to the end of the season and then when the coaching search took place they'd have to satisfy the Rooney rule again. I have that confirmed to meet this week it's seems insane but that's the rule.

So I'm sure that when he looks up and -- number eighteen. -- getting up in the raptors it's gonna be a little bit of a chilling day form but I talked to him yesterday about it and her one of the things he said was. He's gonna make sure when he gets there just hunker down and treated as much like. Normal road game back -- out to dinner and are going to be the -- nothing he's just going to be pretty much hunkered down which I think it's smart. And one other thing I wrote about with the Eli today that so interest thing. I've always thought of Eli because in his first four full years as a starter. He's been a caretaker quarterback. And now I he's kind of turn it into the end -- Because -- even his brother. Because if you look at this I mean it it's you know they real telling statistic I think is yards per attempt. For quarterbacks. And Eli has always been middle or lower in the packet that in the in this fixes. It out 6566. Whatever. Eli Manning at nine point oh right now yards per attempt that's a humongous. Gain for him. And he and Payton air there have peep in here 12 in the NFL right now in your expert have so. It's just I think he's had an absolutely remarkable year especially considering. That every one of his receiving target 125 or younger. So that's the giants are gonna be good for awhile.

I picked death three teams here Peter the Broncos five and no Bengals four and one in the titans' only five. Broncos Bengals titans and of the three which is your biggest surprise this year or did I miss one.

Bank of not only because -- afford one and only you and all -- ones -- play away from being private now. But if you look at it. They've beaten three teams that I think we -- think -- have a very good chance to go to the playoffs Baltimore Pittsburgh and Denver. And he you know they've let they let base there's three -- when their division to a vote on the road. And finally you know Marvin Lewis is always rented graves said we're never gonna be any good until we place that defense. They get Rey Maualuga and there. You know who's big you know -- parker Lewis this week he's basically cinder block wall he stepped in and played like -- to five year veteran. Antwan Odom gives them a legitimate pass rusher. And when they go from the three from the eighty. Forming a line. To be -- three -- line they only rushed three. He can BA. He can be a real good inside. Rushing threat it 280 pounds and they get their quarterback's back so they. It's a little logical but it just does seem weird to me anyway. That they're playing so well on defense and you know Carson Palmer may not be the explosive quarterback. That he used to be but I think peace. He's spec -- opposed to what he was before his knee injury three years ago.

Brady being conscientious that means is a good reason why the patriots have been able to state so good so long. Look you're the one other the one other thing I'll tell you about this book that.
