Welcome back our three Dennis and Callahan if you been paying any amount of attention of a last a year year and have. You already know -- Casey Sherman is -- our Boston based journalist friend and turning into a prolific author the hunt for the real Boston strangler rose from Mary black Irish black dragon is also the co authored -- we talked about the last time Casey was in studio with us the finest hours. The true story behind the coast -- most daring rescue. He's not turning out quite as quickly as Stephen King but he's approaching that land speed record is new book is called bad blood freedom and death in the white mountains good morning Casey --
Guys thanks Jeremy -- pleasure out the -- going -- group advocates are really resonating with a lot of people. In this time of year that looking for those dark stories yet this is certainly ark story we've discussed this a little bit on the periphery the last time last two or three times you've been in let me give you three characters who were the main people in this book just to refresh people's memory. The Senate set the standard of who these people -- long with the story Bruce McKay legal Kennedy and -- Floyd. -- perspective -- Kenny and great Kelly I'm so Waco Kenny is the cousin of Bode Miller -- Olympic skier and he comes from a family of -- their former hippies they lived a very rustic lifestyle in this. Insular community of Bob Franken and kind of mountain people right amount people hippies you know work anxiety the officer person today. It came from Long Island yet very a different idea about law and order should be an eerily clashed. Once they got into Francona Utica how these people get together what brought this group together and and aunts are the pot boiling.
Right it was about 2000 Marie in April and on Super Bowl Sunday news parked along and and it desolate area is maccast -- license of any refused to hand over and in this incident -- Model. Allowing it time after time to hand over information. I grew up on Cape Cod. I've known water cops are when and how did. I if I'd add that kind of attitude a police officer back then. It gotten out and rightfully.
A bit of a professor gates attitude like who you how do you think you are notional. And and they of the the police video of this fact you did you consult an expert who. Who who made the observation. That the officers showed too much restraint he was too reserved in this situation -- talk.
area state trooper and Rhode Island. -- Thousands of traffic stops in his rare up. He couldn't believe that the officer really. Allowed this -- to. Accelerate and if the situation said that it should have been arrested when in the first few minutes but you know people talk about this this -- is being. Rogue cop I don't we call I think this properly allowed just it -- it's leeway to much leeway the first time in the second time they got together. I'm not enough leeway in costumes like. And the second and the fatigue -- the -- resorted to the purse for the pepper spray 2007. -- May eleventh. 2007. Bruce McKay is pulling over any. And frank on an expired registration. That tells me obit that he and it. Right it'll happen for years but let's call that bullet for. These two individuals couldn't get out of -- And arithmetic all the more that it takes off. Wants to go home and find witnesses at least. Doesn't he claims and abuse is before -- It's all the -- Lopez stop themselves. Corners listed. Drives him into weigh in into a driveway purpose racism within a fraction of a second that it comes up with us. Shooting -- five.
And that's the beginning of the -- as a rough start. And I guess we can get right to a because we you've told us about your your -- Floyd. The the whatever your -- survivalist militia men. You know just bad all around bad guy. All around -- just troublemaker. Who who's up there who happens upon the scene. And shoots. --
Right people asked me you'll -- development that we all really. He's he's he's -- rat yeah exactly is peppers real real. So called there. Who stumbles on board of violence played so it's on the -- road blocks. Want to shoot the and gets it is right it's. -- Now. Report -- really labeled as its air. In order and we all in your time. He has Earl yeah. Stallone I'm jumping in to help cup competent help at all real. -- Like Italy and back on exactly who would want but did you find out well this is this mere coincidence right I don't think it's. I'm not saying this conspiracy. And point. Really. Market it and I think you want it. Find out what it was awesome. His whole life or sorry Kerry on -- Government. Worked for. Us as the guys that. Just like to settle disputes won't mind one really bad guy here at the opportunity. And by -- was in it for him street cred. So no it was that the -- you know I've finally built on the on the scene that night when police officers arrived. Always got the ops and we. And show where it says. Irwin. Police officer and an -- really. Point over matter. -- drop. You put your weapons. All wondering what his mental.
At that time tells the cup I'm a quicker draw elects a -- west thing here challenge him to it to a -- exactly. -- happen anywhere else and say -- quicker bank. Yes so clearly his stance his approach when the cops arrived. Would not want somebody to trying to say hey I'm here to help you wanna be hero I want the world grow one at least New Hampshire the people the white -- look at me as somebody who was doing the right thing by this police officer who struggling with his arm got. There -- there.
And you know what it was in his mind is that he really wanted to feel what was one. Pull the trigger -- DD is funny the night.
This hero status -- to you showed up on the scene now everybody is a great obviously but from -- I remember hearing about the story initially said while. That's awesome we probably said that the on the -- probably said. As grateful way to go up help out and out taken out this blog could you show a cop right.
And -- or went up there and when I spoke to the people on the he is liking it bulletin board Baltimore from her apartment he should not be named because the petrified. Of this guy in and you Fonda why. Wealthy had a long history of trouble with the cops I've made on it was little -- happened several times -- complaints that he was shooting automatic weapons. This an -- and during one incident. -- there was a simple meter reader. Who like came up three Demeter Britain you know nominees like my you know first evolves -- comes down and and almost taxes. And what it says my dog -- strained. To go -- And the groin. Now when I first -- Francona India and tried to interview Greg Lloyd at his residence as I'm driving my little. Volkswagen's -- his driveway. There are two words ringing in my head at that time wrote. --
I think internal -- cup at that point working out of -- car I don't know hump. Optic and I'll just take the neighbors were -- yeah I don't need a first person account he's free right no repercussion no repercussions of this case but then he went on trial for. Threatening to kill an elderly neighbor who was convicted and you met him in the men's room at that trial yeah.
It's not rest area. To meet him and anyone off the exploded. During the whole trial even Pittsburgh -- there are in the courtroom when it's arm court. -- been okay this is it an explosive temper and it sets them off easiest go ballistic. -- packed into the courtroom you know. Friends of mine in the report regulars on terrorists use I sure hope -- a little bit. -- happen you wait as it does that's convicted this crime he is going to exploit the core. Sure enough news found guilty you know went after his lawyer birds and start. Ranking outside entity always courthouse.
How does this play out. In that environment up there were their sides taken. Was this a Hatfield mccoys he (%expletive) he said they said I did this divide the community was their you know deep divisions between people were on. McKay aside on -- side on Greg Floyd's side.
Police shootings this is the first shooting where. The killer had as many supporters as the co opted. And the other of the marine has his supporters -- hot as well so it's really -- it's an open wound in Francona yeah two and a half years later.
What why do they believe Floyd happened upon the scene just the average person in Francona and they say -- conspiracy and have but I noted how loaded up on full that the conspiracy how did he know these these two were gonna. Meat and these two we're gonna and and one -- most gonna take the other out.
I mean according to people like talked and they had no evidence to back this up if they think that Floyd in -- a prearranged. This idea to take so we can -- I have not been able to find any evidence to back that up and all I think it was three lives literally colliding on this rural country road and exploding in deadly violence --
Bad blood is doing very very well bad blood freedom and death in the white mountains -- we just been talking about. And an M we're looking forward to it may be it's far too early to talk about this as anybody broached the subject of what's just happened up in New Hampshire has. Who better than you -- it knows the lay of the land in the white mountains and in New Hampshire -- Casey Sherman as anybody talks you about the most recent horrific story it's on pulled up their. But at some point whenever the mood about the mood whenever there at the moment is right. That story be written. Yeah you know I have been approached by several publishers who want the book to be written and again it I think it is to relate. And I wanna see how it plays a little bit I mean if somebody will write a book about this you know it's -- Sylvia.
In this case skirt may have run Casey it's not you don't cross over into that other world that in this case Greg coney crossover. In this some weird people that'll you know survivalist militia mentality than the hippie weirdo meanest -- Kenny. I saw our was it is odd -- she would have to bring them fooled because you live in a cabin. He wouldn't shop and he that would neat branches that he didn't work you didn't do anything what did he do just. He worked in an -- only been working for a few weeks that he was just kind of bounced -- around you have to bring them food 'cause he wouldn't have any food in his latest skinny hippie. It's that if token of some -- bring a pizza just so we would eat where where is mom -- is as -- as something of a suburb of Boston Barbara identity my outlook on the run over the border that's probably people who come to Boston every day or at least come the the Burlington Waltham for work every day. That's not exactly you cross into deliverance country.
Not not not at all last I heard heard the show last week about people praying for these kids -- I'm I'm praying for them to tampering that is a detective. And Mont Vernon who's got a little bud white from LA confidential and got an idea person is still in one of these animals miles right now. Let him taste Eackles the only -- can't do.
And you look at a case like that -- consider. A project like that you look for some mystery because it's the only mystery here is what -- know what evil lurked inside these four. We know did it right we're gonna know exactly how they did it why they did to -- local and.
All the why they did and I think probably the mystery -- goodies for animals are mean I'm appealing as you used the expression the onion has to movies for animals are what brought them to that point what made them win and decide at random we're gonna throw like you're the character feel what it feels like -- somebody right.
And and the heroic acts of of the of the little girl in this case -- mean that is the story -- in itself so but it's and so you know that story is a little too close to home. For me I've got two daughters and I you know. I'd write the book but then I'd wanna vomit on every page yeah. Just say we need it like in thirty days this is story like I'll share some effect -- costly and I wouldn't I wouldn't even bother with it with bad blood there's so many gray areas it's. It was an interesting project for me to tackle but something like this a quickie book like that that's really not --
And I just send them blood looks great I mean the cover. Did little blood with the way they write bad blood that title the back but Carson area pictures.
You have got to school good thing there's of the of the death -- In in the book I was told. When I was up for frank O'Neill once I'm to a gentleman who had never met before approached me and said let's go for a ride. I said where you sit there we can't tell you would bring your camera. And that was enough for me to jump on the decks really are and we ended up at this a storage facility where the death -- ones.
reach out and I -- the bode Miller's mother did you try voting.
I you you know he was wouldn't talk about the case he hasn't talked really about the case you didn't show up Utley goes funeral you really -- distance himself. But he had his owner and it's and hampers -- today the officer which idea chronicle on the book a little bit.
Wrap up and say that that. You're a lot tougher than you look I think two on two on two occasions -- guy says my dog is trained to go the groin in the neck. -- you drive down that long drive we into is like complex open to New Hampshire white mountains. And of the guys that you let's go for a ride in a W a record and you get in the car I don't -- although I neither one of those things and a now.
But about it it paid off you know I really -- let me see what. What we saw that night immune there was blood spatter all over the at the seats just as the ones the night that this -- was shot. It's legal have a gun all regularly while that's the thing that's what makes this story so interest in his Waco was known to carry a gun the officer actually. Issued a warning to his fellow officers two weeks before this incident saying watch carefully to Kenny is known to carry a weapon. The day of the shooting Bruce McKay was a very safety conscious police officer he's not wearing his protective vest. He used to wear it everywhere it -- to the supermarket he was kind of laugh Staten town because he took -- so seriously. That day he's not wearing his book bulletproof -- and the actual first medical responders were shocked when they when they responded to CNN notice that. The sky wasn't wearing his best.
It is yet another in the long run a fascinating stories that Casey Sherman is told it's called bad blood freedom and death in the white mountains of between now. And the Kate's murder story what are you working on something in the in the in the pipeline now yeah I'm working on a book on Joe the animal Barbosa hall another easy when the researchers -- in trouble -- right well hopefully the other guys are all AD plus for right now and I don't think that the -- will be but they know younger people.
Etc. and that those younger people are always trying to passing through and you books and be dug up any good. But what are able to I was almost a billion again -- accidentally by mistake a couple of weeks ago and -- like coastal family -- threatening yet. Lawsuits and threatening to beat we beat up.
I actually like -- once I was living in less than it originally a week ago. The other Gardner museum paintings and the guy I met him in the early ninety's before it took off I was living in South Boston. At the time of some college roommates and in our next door neighbor was again you've had on the show before John Read -- regalia. Essentially character rat bastard yes and when we got first. I've got the Condo this this young real estate -- said I've gotta warn you that this kid may be connected to Whitey Bulger is gang. While that was the selling point for me -- makes you pay extra -- watching scarface on a loop back and some isn't sure what to do it. So so we get we get the Condo and over the first six months we don't see -- because quote he works nights are -- and we're just about to college kids and finally we couldn't get out of each other's way we live next door. It be helping us with the groceries would do the same. Would invite him over for paper viewpoints and and onetime you know this kid would have a few Beers and let's start to talk really about what. Crimes that he committed and my roommate tonight we -- could not be connected with -- people trophies don't -- yet what he's doing well one night we had a party and it was just for our girlfriends in college kids and it was overrun by a few. You know -- from south you heard the music and want a free beer. And we couldn't get him out of the conduit here rap rap rap on the door and it's redshirt because Casey it's in 2 o'clock in the morning time to wrap this party. And I'd like to but I've got three kids in here I don't know via our via -- pushes me aside because you you you and you screw. Is just a little lot of the apartment. And the next day I get a call from -- from. OK and then we're there when they finally when they -- that. So was I was coming home from viewers to -- Airbus -- but the Jack. The whole apartment house was surrounded by Blue Jackets the Yang FBI Vietnam some guy asked me where I lived in. I told him where and he said it now audience and when -- when did you meet white. While this it was I had a friend of mine who was dating. Dan -- wanna -- wasted and we went to Billy's house one night. And we sorrow the only white -- champ the other brother. -- and I sit up. You know we just did didn't grow so much to las -- week. Now we're pretty respectful respectful -- time news that's I'm considered unity. Robin out of south the which of course we don't ask the gas but it was interesting today at least in is it is presence once.
The book is bad blood freedom and death -- the white mountains the authors Casey Sherman Casey tremendous job continued success for the -- keep -- posted on the Barbosa story and the one down the road absolutely expects Casey Sherman -- Dennis and Callahan.
