I'll just say it's simply as I can't. If you're a sports fans even if you profess to hate the game of baseball. Even if you say -- the most boring night I would wanna watch it I don't care about it if you somehow. -- Which your any kind of sports fan at all. You couldn't turn that thing off last night that was as amazing as remarkable. Up one night of watching sports is like.
Remember long time yeah it was a great game and announced and you earlier that the good thing about -- I wanna Minnesota -- and so it's always good to watch a game. You want one team to win although. They won't depression in really scary like that Minnesota had won the game would be depressed this morning but that's a -- wanna see Minnesota went. So that was one great thing about it but the other great thing. Was that when they -- They're still at that point. Where this -- a market where they don't expect. To win the world Syria and I'm here that's fair and so. When they go to the playoffs in the and they won five division titles in the last eight years so this is not foreign to them winning their division. But it seems like an intimate maybe I'm reading way too much into it seemed that they appreciated. If you like they're genuinely excited about winning that the although I think the tigers would have injustice -- ought not not saying that that's the twins are excited and writer right right labs and is when you are outside of Boston -- New York where you sort of expect to be in the playoffs every and it may be in May be the angels I don't know the angels winning novels AL west titles have. If their fans -- there's AL west that's not. We expect to win the World Series finally can we get to give -- two World Series and went for the first time in seven years. I don't know if if California fans like that. But I don't twins fans are tigers fans aren't either.
Not sure though I mean we think about the fact that that they've won five division titles in the last eight years maybe -- expect. Maybe it's a surprise when they don't.
Make it I think they know that the odds are stacked against them even though the twins haven't come out haven't come out of nowhere looked to have an American League MVP this year. They've had great players before they've had great position players and they had great pitchers before. So it's not like you know this is the story nobody knows about. But I still think. Most of America outside of the -- 12718. Area code will be rooting for the twins in the -- when they play the --
And they're gonna be a little bit the little engine that could there there there the decided underdogs. H yes I went prep I want 62 front about what. Don't give a shot at the fire went six from a Long Island home I just as you watched it last night and because. Like you I wanted the twins to win because they were at home and they with the team trying to come from behind in this race in and overtake the tigers. I didn't really care like Q it's like I am I wasn't gonna be depressed either way it really matter to me either way. And because of that because I didn't have you know up rooting interest in -- thing and wanted to end. Every play every great play that was made to extend it I was cheering for and I didn't really care either way. And and -- think about the number of plays. That kept extending and all the line out double played a left. You know that I I mean Joe Nathan. I put pressure how I got out of that thing was just.
Angel and you can tell that he he he couldn't believe -- either because after he got out of that he was going crazy I'm really excited about it of these vacant. I'm probably gonna give up a run here. -- at least have to give up around the first and third nobody out.
By the way Brandon in state that. Which they did I mean it yeah -- graze the Jersey -- gonna run right there should have been around now as it turns out maybe it wouldn't matter can all the way the twins -- maybe data. Scored two in the bottom of that inning. It just it was so much fun to watch it was such great trauma. Like it. Good for the good for the twins and I'm not gonna just automatically assume they can't.
that's what does Korea and absolutely that's what I -- falsely that's what playoff baseball odds for you outsourcing yesterday hit but I have a feeling. That's somebody like the twins are gonna win the World Series number -- on espn.com. This morning and looking at. Jayson Stark's article many of -- probably seen it already Jayson stark declares the Yankees are gonna win at all he says they went on the road -- they would on the road they went home. They got a great lineup. They score a lot of runs on base percentage open yes averaged. Power any anyway you want a slice -- the Yankees are good they're good against bad teams are good against good teams. On and on and on it's clear the Yankees -- gonna win the World Series.
He sort of skipped over the pitching a little bit but doesn't know he does -- because that's you know what what what I'm what I'm saying is. I think they've got a lot of big question mark here -- eighties has not been an ace in the playoffs before and is --
Their number of if you look at based in the regular season. This of the 103 games in the regular season in the toughest division in baseball. And they led the league and -- we will talk about here like look like the Red Sox have the best pitching staff in baseball but the numbers say something different.
I look I agree with -- yet it is just let's be honest the guy who's supposed to be. Their savior. Has had a very checkered history when it comes to playoff baseball it's like Alex Rodriguez you can't ignore the fact. But he has one post season RBI in 55 plate appearances. Now he may be as good a player as has ever worn a uniform. You get to post season and he just doesn't perform.
The I'm with you on CC sabathia big question there because you don't know what he's gonna do and post season and he supposed to be your race. Yeah you want your -- to have a history of shutting people down a job at it and I policies I want that history so I'll give you that and that's a major concern but as far as Alex Rodriguez is concerned. Yes he has struck in the post season. But the Yankees are good enough where he can struggle in the post season and that is still went yeah they're not relying on him okay -- A-Rod doesn't get it done they still got Jeter Vista that Teixeira. -- Just -- suing Damon all these people. I can no. Okay get it done they -- it's not like they are built around -- so I don't think that rule part of that much he continues to struggle.
It'll be interesting to see what the hangover effect is for the for the twins and and I don't mean that literally elbow like could based on. You know at the champagne being -- all that stuff the you wonder if the emotional hangover is such that. You know you do it can't do anything tonight I mean -- year you're drained -- you've got nothing left in the tank or is just the opposite. Where where you're on such a high coming out of that game why why not. You just keep right on Roland I mean in in that regard. Maybe it's better that they played tonight maybe it's better that they gold right back out there and and not have a day off to satan and get low key and think about it just give out their plight.
I would feel that way that they had a better picture and -- in the ma that's a good point so yes you know I -- the position players doesn't matter to them but. Yeah not only did you play last night played an extra inning game last night right now the Yankees and the Yankees are like you I'll keep -- and let's take this thing and a seventeen innings 1617 and innings it doesn't matter they'll come in here. They'll be tired they'll be worn out. We we saw a similar situation. Even though it was completely it was completely different round of the playoffs 99. The Red Sox over the Indians. Pedro Martinez the great six no hit innings coming out of the bullpen. Against the Indians Mike Hargrove for pitches around no market to -- Troy O'Leary truly are mix and make -- pay. All the stuff so the Yankees go into the 99. ALCS. They're riding high we beat the Indians is exciting Red Sox yankees championship series and they lose in five games. That that was their peak right right and and you know the that was five games versus one game for the twins I think the twins. Will probably lose tonight. And everything it it's the recipe is therefore. Not just a loss tonight but it beat down tonight.
C and and actually I think they're gonna win and you think that's what we heard about it you think they're gonna end with tonight's game I think they're gonna win tonight's game. I don't think they're gonna win this in -- season and I know I and I know that. I have forgotten. I actually think that -- the one they're gonna win which is which is weird and and probably doesn't make much sense. But it you know it it's almost like when was the last time the Yankees played a game that mattered. It's been a long time I mean remember it's been an incredibly long time and I'm not talking about the days off between Sunday and Wednesday. The last time they played a game that mattered was like three weeks ago. Literally three weeks ago -- I mean it on cruise control for so long. And the twins have been on the opposite of cruise control they have the pedal to the metal for the last three weeks they had to. Even get into the playoff game yesterday and that they had to keep the pedal to the -- to get through the tiger.
look at that you're looking at that nasty word that has no place in baseball. That word as momentum. And give him momentum and I don't think it matters pickets on match -- you got CC sabathia arrested CC sabathia. One of the you know three or four best pitchers in baseball this year. Going against twins team. That. It's probably a little worn down. Doesn't match up well against the Yankees in any category. Yankees' lineup versus twins lineup now. I yankees' pitching versus twenty points that -- now. And all by the way I checked the wind is blowing how to write him I know give them out of the twins one advantage. In Yankee fans think epic in America. They do have an advantage. On the bench. Ron garden higher. Is a more accomplished manager he's a more countless manager than Joe Girardi and I don't really see I you can argue that.
Now it's funny because. Of if on the Detroit Tigers fan this morning I'm probably saying. Widely held Jim Leland -- Fernando Rodney and as long as needed within trust anybody else and and you know we were talking about this earlier in his thirty and he was a completely different pitcher -- was in the tenth inning he's thrown 969798. He gets to the twelfth inning and I don't think I saw fastball it's all off speed. Changeup slider because I don't think he had any fastballs left in the arm. And yet he's back out there and ends up -- in the top loss quote you know. Who would you have used as evidence that gave her and it and it's and it's a perfectly valid question because I don't know what's left in his bullpen at this point. I mean as I as I said yesterday it's it's almost all hands on deck situation. You know when it's it's winner go home. He -- he he. When he got to the twelfth inning it looked like he'd there was nothing left it looked like Pedro after after Grady left -- Can help themselves not -- a well I am so that I I op but I'm over it. I'm okay with it now I you know because the two world championship amounts to -- if you will affect I I just. I'm guessing tiger fans this morning and it's the ultimate second -- because he ended up losing the game. But I'm guessing tiger fans are saying. There was nobody else left -- you. Thank you very much. I think you're kidding of that who's that well but but then the next logical question is woody pitch the fourth when he pitched a fifth. He hadn't pitched more than two innings once this year.
I don't think the tigers fans are talking about that this morning that talked about the fact they had a seven game lead in September and they lost. And it probably killing Miguel Cabrera. And it became a player last night giving Matty and homered and hit a home Ronnie was one for six. But but he's gonna be a guy who can catch a lot of -- Detroit. In the aftermath I don't know like this -- I'd be very surprised because just different. It's just a different market -- we expect to we're looking at a the way it will play out Boston and new York and Philadelphia right. This is not the same there I'd be very surprised if Mitch album comes out. And rips Cabrera. As Michael Rosenberg got a rip them I -- who's gonna do it. It is completely different market.
