The guys chat about the Red Sox locking up the wild card last night thanks to the Angels but Clay Buchholz was rocked for five HRs and the Sox lost their 5th straight. Is there any reason to be concerned with the Sox pitching rotation?

Let me just apologize brought -- the -- to you Michael my partner. Because I'm just not going to be able to give view as much as I shoot as much as you deserve what your co host Liza well 'cause I started celebrating at 12:15 this morning and and all then by the time you stop drink and -- full Warren you know you're trying to pry out after that -- the met at that last out was maiden. Anaheim I have the goggles goal and in the it was a little long Leo all by myself in my house but.
You know it's it got to celebrate when you can celebrate so -- usually celebrate along. Unfortunately. It's really -- it actually. Well the night cared and it's the story in my life I mean so if the playoffs that supply the playoffs have big guy you're shocked argue that they. They mated they were able to get there it's incredible. Really it really incredible it didn't happen in an incredible way but. No you look at it since it was almost pretty incredible sense worked since 20036. Playoff appearances in seven years. That it -- with -- they would make the post season play that back in two weeks in three weeks thank you. That's about now how public this context I think like all the obvious statement at the time. People pretty I I'll -- time. Goes mid August I believe they were struggle. Net. Donate all workday though I don't care about the Red Sox struggle. In wanna kiss you that hypocrite. He is they've -- there are doing. Yeah that'd make the playoffs. It didn't happen and a great way and and maybe some have to do with you're number three starter who had a re still rough time. Did not of them these two FLR -- yeah I got bad -- and I don't -- that Michael. -- like John Burrell now and I say that was a good thing hitters -- than nice job calling -- bottom line some like yep and I'm not talking about -- BC football he's got a nice job last night -- suggested the BC Eagles were in trouble it doesn't nice job at a radio here. And I'm not saying that there are about. -- look it was it was pretty awful and and the point is. This was. This is not an important now I guess it was an important game in the sense that -- had a Q you're one game out. You -- game away from clinching. And if you take the ball you wanna be that guy who -- team. Secure a playoff spot.
No lucky I'm sure he didn't think it was insignificant that he stunk the place out and gave up five home runs -- I thought it was insignificant I really deal that that a guy gave up five yeah I'm not a big deal audio five home runs it has not indicated to me that that's -- gonna pitch in the upcoming playoffs I mean what what does it mean then I had a bad night. Five homers I had a bad night. What what was Wakefield gave up in Detroit that time was six housing don't in the policies in OK I it was a little removed from display these -- are gonna pitch in the post season. I wouldn't think.
I understand you -- look I am I am I am rooting for Clay Buchholz. I think he's doing the number four starter not not ready -- policies and hoping does well. But I'm just not convinced that he is gonna do well when he gets the ball by. Oh yeah click click click click buckled gets the ball -- he's gonna give you six innings I have no idea what he's gonna do. It's ice -- does give you that feeling. I know I'm gonna get some and I'll I'll get a good performers from Daisuke Dice-K ever blown up in the playoffs coming -- short three innings. Five home runs four home runs than ever done not that -- in a postseason has ever blown up in the policies you spend.
He's been -- less than adequate -- well now that's not true art that's natural what was the one where he gave up like or five Robinson. 34 innings whatever -- globally in the playoffs via there was a playoff game like on the economic Daisuke and it makes -- I'm like I'm not in the guy. And I'm not. I I think in fact one of those play that back in two weeks three weeks things that we didn't tape was me saying he was gonna come back and pitch. Important games for the steam in September.
I'll find it as long as its post season -- IRAs 479.
Re not know it's our great is its policies and record is three and one. The one lost what was now. I remember there was a there was Cleveland to start wasn't at all.
He while I actually. That's who it's that that is not. Put together very well okay Tampa. It's a threat that through. I'm just looking I'm looking at his at his post season game -- Is get this thing together here but my point would Daisuke is that I think he's gonna be. I think I I think you'll be good in the policies. Beside I don't. I don't think there's gonna be I don't -- where he would just.
I feel very good about him as one of the four starting pitchers. In the post season for this team and and I'm not one of those people who thinks is they'll go with three starters in the first series. I think they'll go with four and I feel pretty good about the all four of.
His best both seasons start came in 2008. Versus Tampa. Seven innings. Four hits no runs. Or walks nine strikeouts. Or that was game one of the ALCS last year. But he hasn't given you a lot of innings in the post season he's given you 331 record before two thirds point two thirds 55 and that are. 574. In this is the guy who with with post season experience. Pool is who has not been great. My only point is that Clay Buchholz is a great talent don't ever get me wrong great talent and now. But I don't have any idea and and -- does anyone else. Have an idea what he's gonna do in the post season don't have a clue. Leo can't tell me at the clue Tito can't tell me have a clue what Clay Buchholz is good John Farrell they have no idea what this guy's gonna do and post season but you. Are convinced that Clay -- is more reliable and post season than any panic at.
It's getting better than that if I said he's pitching better than Andy Pettitte yes he is his last month. Has been better than Andy pats now I also said if you wanna talk about history he can't even if not the same paragraph is auntie pat. I mean Andy -- has the long storied baseball history nobody can deny it. But I I'm not sure how much of how you throw this year is based on history. I mean if that's all that mattered of the Bogut Curt Schilling out of retirement don't let him do that. DNC show tomorrow get a minute to get him on the mound for the Red Sox next week's self. Is exaggerating and make a point absolutely current admitted. I just what I said was over the last month. Absolutely Clay Buchholz is pitched better than the Andy -- and I don't have any problem -- He has he has pitched better -- can elect even if -- last night in their about the numbers are better.
It's probably is probably close and OPEC Pettit was struggling -- struggling. To the tune of what went five ERA or five and happy RA right. In the last month. But I think you know what you're gonna get from him in important games in in my only point and and you know you can debate it -- only point is you don't know what you're gonna get from Clay Buchholz McCain really matter.
Which can get from anybody in the -- definitely up to or thereabouts and others absolutely -- I mean I've I'm unsure of what -- I get from Jon Lester and Daisuke. Not -- not yet I don't like.
I sure about Daisuke than I am I feel real sure about what I'm gonna get out of Lester and Beckett. I feel pretty confident about those two. I don't feel anywhere near as confident about about Daisuke and your point is valid and when it comes to -- I had no idea what I'm gonna again. I'm basing my confidence on how I think he's thrown the ball. Over the last well -- Really even including last night over the last two months he's been pretty darn good.
fastballs last night it was scary was awful last night.
I mean he gave up five home running up a home run of the first pitch you -- your belt high fastballs just crazy they were just teeing off on this thing which they -- them in Major League hitters. I'm gonna knock that out nine times out of ten and a ball is in that position.
But it but it is good that the Red Sox are in the playoffs we can officially. Talk about the post season now. And it and it's it's too bad that Terry Francona had a conflict yesterday because I believe it if he if he were so inclined. He could've come on at 1202. And told us officially. That yes Jon Lester will start the division series versus the game well in the and he did say yesterday because they had he was to -- it was still thinking okay I don't wanna.
And part of this I think quite honestly is still waiting on the Yankees to announce which schedule. Because I think that might make a difference to. And and and you know until you know for sure okay we opened Thursday in Anaheim. Or we opened Wednesday at the I think there's a difference forum I think the Yankees will announce it soon enough that there's no reason hold back. And and I also think. That that with Beckett talking last night about a still in line to make my start Saturday. Saturday sets him up for Thursday. They'll have Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday as -- that sets off for Friday he'll have I date they like an extra day of rest for him. If he pitches Saturday like he keeps insisting he will that's sets him up to pitch Friday.
Makes sense it makes sense the wave the the rotation is set up right now. It looks like Jon Lester will start followed by Beckett. Then followed by -- buckles.
I think that's how fortune I think that's probably how it's gonna setup an am okay with that first ball Buchholz. And Matsuzaka both pitch year which I think is a decided advantage. It doesn't really matter to me which one pitches three or four. Each albums gonna pitch one game if it goes that far. -- three you're gonna see Matsuzaka if they went at three and I coliseum but. Realistically both guys gonna pitch a game both guys are gonna pitch at Fenway it really doesn't matter to me whether they pitched three or four does it it I don't think it matters to them.
probably doesn't. -- of the matter all that much. Every -- you you're getting what you want regardless you're getting your your best to pitchers. Starting on the road. You don't want you don't want Daisuke on the road now you don't want Clay Buchholz on the road.
Aren't enough for and colts you know in a playoff situation in the pressure he's gonna feel -- enough to do it here you don't want him to have to do -- out there and and you're getting. Jon Lester for two starts if it goes five if the LT. Well but with all that said number Daisuke that started a -- that great start against Tampa doubles on the road. Start up ALCS and -- I mean is it is Zelikow a rookie pitcher who's never been. In post season games before. He meaning lucky he gave up. Three eight hits and three runs in five innings he was okay I said I -- Tampa. Game while the temple in seven innings. Four hits no runs my mistake I was looking at the angels you have four walks not an announcement last playoff game wasn't good. Or innings five hits five runs all summer and yet they were getting teed off on that capitalist has gone crazy remember and in the middle of that series.
I love Michael Silberman piece in today's Harold because I I know and party heard. Enough of Red Sox Nation to know that they're all in a -- there including listening -- morning. About the fact that they've lost five -- and seven out of their last nine and and you're going into the playoffs in a limping. Michael Silberman breaks down how little that really matters we'll talk about that when we come back we'll get to your calls as well Ken Rosenthal from fox sports will join us at 12020. We'll preview the start of the bruins' season they open up tomorrow night at home against Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals Peter surely will join us at one note to. How would get to a with you in just compliment.
I got to know vest and shirt for you wanna where I got one in the office and where that's again.
I would. -- I was telling my nineteen year old amateur over Accenture she like to -- Statistics she agreed vital data prepared -- front I know it is would get to it just a couple of minutes Sports Radio WE yeah.
