Our number three dale and -- broadcasting live from Gillette Stadium on a patriots Friday every Friday at this time. We talked with Peter King from Sports Illustrated SI dot com and NBC sports. Galen -- leadoff hitter is brought to you -- double Mexican grill handmade for real. Log out of the dale and -- page on WEEI dot com to receive today's special lunch time off work short text few dull but QB OB 82425. 40. Good afternoon mr. king Mario. They're already doing. Great thank you on a beautiful New England -- in all of my got to attack the here on unfortunately where in here at Gillette Stadium but will be out there soon in concert.

Register here Peter. Always expected to be some some world travelers somewhere.

Well only weeks most weeks. What I do is. Take the train down in new York and Saturday. And you'd you'd Notre Dame app and -- the of the game or. To get prepared Sunday in. -- some weeks during the season that up traveled during the week if a -- story work that -- treated this week ago. And so anyway that's sort of my life now.

Speaking he should be glad NBC didn't have a game last week man Charlie Weis I think you'd have to criticize him for. -- that game away to Michigan.

Yeah you know I I thought I saw the highlights the the end and I felt questionable -- only edit the yen but that was one of those games where. Secure enough with state ignoring other side it was it was exciting other game you're the -- in that.

I heard about that -- don't even bring that up to form like yeah -- very arbitrary. -- that I heard -- there was no it was going to be a really was it was a great game. I I was a little surprised I thought NBC would. Pull out all the stops and take all you guys down to big deep for the for the grand opening Sunday night.

Well I think they've spent enough people I mean I thought The Today Show this morning yet Matt Lauer. Yet yet. -- Al Roker do in the weather. Is weather map was on the video board detect if they are at it it's Cowboys Stadium. And and Matt Lauer did it to work for him it's it's all. I have a feeling we may sort of play that game up pretty big this weekend.

I will say this just having seen and I saw The Today Show this morning as well. I guess one point two billion dollars does buy you something these days.

What does it if you're. If -- theory -- you wanna build the others but a lot of debate about this stadium. And we're getting all sort caught up on the video board which I understand why but. In the long run I've written about this on a couple of occasions I think. What Jerry Jones has done. Others in the fact that it's tremendously costly to go to the games which. I think it's circuit now gonna be a way of life if you wanna go what you know though. But. Other than just the cost that it. I think what he's done is -- smart thing in this way. That's the thing I think it's over look. He really wanted to build the stadium that would you know -- at every every kind of against middle class upper middle class and upper class male in America Sunday afternoon under all. Retreats it is urgent of -- a to watch the game. And I think more and more owners and more and more teams over time have been hurting you worry. That I'm a bad day consistently. That people even people have it its gains are not in the becoming. And the NFL is gonna become more and more is the -- if he'd be become. Maurer. And more and more. You know like -- theaters. I I think Jerry Jones was convinced that he didn't want football would become studio work. So that's one of the reasons quite built this though that even if it's 48 degrees kind of pretty outside in your you know -- the aid and -- the -- cowboys against the you know the two wind and sea hawks. That you know you're not necessarily gonna keep the game and stay home because they while I can see things and they like -- you know.

Peter -- a switch gears a bit and say that I get a kick out of the rise in twins Rex Ryan -- Brian when he was here. Was always entertaining that I loved what Rex is doing. -- with the jets and in terms of maybe instilling some bravado and the swagger but what do you think of it do you think he has gone too far and its players have taken into form.

No not at all. The only the only thing that. That I think may come back to haunt them. On Sunday -- do anything it written that it but it's the old Cary wrote it right there are. That's the kind of thing that Tom Brady will hear and I guarantee you. And I wrote this morning an alum for a site that on the committee. -- the CBS cameras out of hand greedy if they make a -- in the road there's that but it gets affected area Sunday because. He'll be he'll be happening. If it's for the Steelers a couple of years ago these that'd -- or when guys. Sort of talk a little bit too much before the game which I don't mind in the media shouldn't mind that means it's proof that they're not -- But it's our sort Ryan -- Ryan I don't find it I don't I don't find anything Ryan said. Objectionable. And at the open as well is he put it ship fund. Other things shoulders about and yeah of course he has but having said that. I want my -- to be confident our ability I want him they think were gonna win this game. So I don't mind at all what what -- right there.

It's not just that the Tom Brady camping up the Tom Brady aspect of it. We're gonna have to -- offensive lineman in here and little while. And I got a feeling that offensive line is gonna look at the roads comments about well I'll tell you what we're gonna hit a more than six times and it's the sort of thing that that they will Chu -- as well I thank.

Well and they probably should because I mean I think we have thought all along that I mean -- Tom Brady got it a lot -- these. Get it a lot against the giants -- game he played in and Monday night especially early on he got it. He got it is so what I mean. It you know. I I don't I don't mind if I'm mom. If I'm if if I'm a player -- a game like this. And you'd hear comment that is not all together and -- I mean I'm not I'm not gonna get for the first of all. How how much more EM up for regain it actually be mean if you're at -- And you'd have to get up Sunday morning in a deep breath they boys you know what these games on the road. Think it's the scene that looked like it might be real. And and Weytman although some comments made by a player on the scene it is they're in our quarterback well -- am -- gonna play a lot better today. It's I just don't I don't see as a very big factor.

I know the jets have their way with the Texans who got totally shut them down. Made Steve Slaton look bad. To Andre Johnson on the game do you think. The jets have what it takes to do that against the patriots at the meadowlands incumbent.

You know they're not gonna play as well against the patriot as they played against the tech. Because. You know you'd you'd still -- they'll have to understand that. You know the difference between match up and Tom Brady is is an ocean. And and in our I don't I would be very very surprised. If they help the patriots single digits -- in May help detect and basically is your point only evidence that there. And so that's not gonna happen it's we can I think one of the reasons is. Gradient till O'Brien and Belichick figured out that now they'll figure out something -- he and do. In this game that used in even if they figured out even if I have -- in the offensive coordinator -- amount. Match up could execute I think the neat thing. Patriots have played this means it's like they're playing in the rate. Because that's what you are with that he used in guys last week in -- that they can they were plenary though. That's the -- game you know that overloading one side. Rushing to retreat guys maybe you won all. You know he just it's going to be one of those games where median max protect the little bit more especially early in what kind of game it gets her way.

Get so many interesting story lines early on in this season more than I can remember you know from injured players which you seem to have every year early on. -- to new stadiums being open -- you know revisiting Cleveland Denver. There's some neat story lines early on its -- attempted to decide which ones are are the biggest going into the week.

It's you know I mean I could give -- a -- I ended up right about one net yeah I hadn't seen in. Many people about the right about the game and I'm really excited to the Baltimore in the -- Just because you know Baltimore it used to a new defensive coordinator Greg Mattison. Basically you're mostly the same stuff as they -- that have -- And for me yeah I'd get. I really really like that clippers a lot you know while while America was basically Koreans -- Tom Brady's comeback in the last five and a minute. Last week. You know the second game even though was that whatever 12:45 AM or whatever time it happened. -- the rivers though 79 and 89 or whatever was that the evidence maybe ninety aired in the last twelve minutes. Win that game I think it's very special player and -- well. The third trip meant. That he's an -- in the ravens they put your right fielder had -- the game this week.

What's gonna happen with Richard Seymour and Oakland.

I think they're Richard Seymour and knew that everybody was watching them last week. Played with a lot of energy a lot of speaker. You know the big question for him will be any duplicate that fifteen times. Especially. I mean if this weekend. It's a great weekend. For him because he's go to Kansas City. And he's going to Kansas City and and what we eat eat basically has. You know a great offensive line for him to go again. Because that offensive line was was very very. Shaking going into the -- and didn't play great game against the ravens last week. So there you know he it's the kind of game where. You know he can really have a huge impact but again I think that's one of the reasons why. The patriots traded them because he didn't play great every week he didn't play great every place so you know what the couldn't keep it up for sixteen.

We got an email. For a last week after he said that some that's a latitude challenge Peter King. For saying that that Richard Seymour and play hard every play.

Wii does and I mean that this guy watch -- I mean that's the big knock on Richard Seymour that he doesn't play hard every play at. That's not mean you mean I mean of course I'd said it but I'm echoing what people normally tell me and I guess -- paper on the patriots and I've seen.

Yeah in and and it's probably true but the they still we're trying to assign them and they were trying to aren't.

I'm not debating anything like that but I I it's that it's had its effect take and I can tell you this Lawrence Taylor didn't play hard every play either. So I mean he's not alone. But I'm just saying that a guy who's going to be thirty years old. And somebody out there is a free agent is gonna pay him pick -- number 1213 fifteen million a year. You'd have to ask yourself you wanna pay Richard Seymour as much or more mean Brady you'll probably be -- by by next march. But. Do you wanna pay Richard Seymour as much as you're gonna -- nearly as much as you're gonna think Tom Brady I would I would patriots.

I would neither but I would I would take the performance. From 2009 -- that that passion. And that energy going into a free agent year. Let it helped me -- be a better team in 2000 I've been allowed a walk at that that's look at the patriots have done that before and in in well I got ice.

I don't necessarily argue would you have that one and if they had. I think Michael had they not then. Happy with what they -- training camp for Ron brace and Myron Pryor. My guess is that they probably would have done. And if they hadn't gotten off for the first round pick form they probably would have them do but. You know that's that's those are good judgment you have to make ends meet the reason I like that trade. Is because it's Bill Belichick looking it is -- with the continual. And that's what you have to do especially. If you know -- always gimmick and and what makes the difference between you with a contender. You know now and and two years down the road 345 years there on the road I don't know what they're going to be looking for a draft 18011. But the fact is. That a you know and and again they may that may be the fourth pick in the draft and knows and they can. Did that mean that -- great pick I'm not a huge fan of the fourth pick in the draft a -- of the eighth pick in the draft. And and last year they may seventh pick in the draft turned it into the and and still got the guy they wanted Jerod Mayo for significantly less money. The bottom line in this is that is going to be shipped. That the patriots probably play it was so you know the out those.

Peter I know you know the answer this question. Anthony Gonzales went down for the colts will be out at least you know six to eight weeks. And they pick that Hank -- from Philadelphia but my question is what Marvin Harrison why why does -- Marvin Harrison. Go back to the colts or any team I can't believe he's still out there on the street.

Very simple Michael it's too full. Teams out there don't think Marvin Harrison and state -- they that he hasn't the last three years. And he's old. Hasn't gone through training camp. It's if he comes to your team. I I I can't I mean may be it'll be may be -- have a magic. Eight weeks. But I'm reminded of I think it was you guys somebody had yeah I had unions fail on. And he'd talked about how he did -- exit seven that we I think that's what yup. I mean. That the media is what Marvin Harrison and can do if you rely on him if -- with these in your -- having given Nicole these and I think in. I mean it really good season it was three years. -- and then again here's the other thing at least in March and April. He wanted to be paid Tony Dungy said and our area the other night. Marvin Harrison act in the plate for free Mac complete CP wants to be paid. So why would you give a guy what I'm just gonna for a figure out why would you give a guy four million dollars. When you have no idea if he's gonna last two weeks there are twelve. And that's the reason and it's hurt the colts go. -- made a great observation about people. The fact that they are not on the phone with Marvin Harrison now. Means that Peyton Manning is telling Tom Moore and Bill Polian and team called well you don't want. I'm okay -- Austin Collie -- repeat slot receiver I'm fine with peer -- You know our outside receiver opposite Reggie Wayne will make it work they'll war. And so the colts is they find other colts do have over three million dollars in cap room as of this morning. But I'd just I don't think it -- they have -- another injury. Or you got receivers were in the wrong -- Monday night in Indianapolis that there all of -- here.

Last year in the opener of the patriots lost Tom Brady for the year they ended up going eleven and five with a backup quarterback and just missed out on making the playoffs. How do you put the loss of Brian her locker for the year in comparison to that for the Chicago Bears.

Well. And now I was thinking. When I when I went to their training camp the one thing this year -- the one thing that impressed me. Was everybody who whites are -- and seeing your locker parking her locker. This is the brainer -- for 2006 he worked out like a madman would help the last two years went into the year. Without having worked harder listed are done a lot of strength training. Because he had a back injury one ear and neck injury in this. So you know her locker was was finally back to being your locker and I think he was gonna have an impact -- effect it is and going to be there now. And they're gonna play with a combo platter -- led by Hunter Hillenmeyer. And by the way he's another Vanderbilt guy I think that they think that our entire starting lineup is composed of Vanderbilt. But. You know the fact that now he's gone. I think you'd think you'd see if I had to pick it -- no way that it appears to witness -- go to this -- now. Is that I definitely don't think they're the best in the inning or matter what.

You mentioned Tony Dungy and it's surprising because dungy. As as a coach you didn't really hear. A lot of critical comments that come from Tony Dungy and -- that's candidates the criticism. But you do see it hear it now and I think it's great. He said along before. Mike Martz and everybody Allen Jim Mora were questioning jay Cutler's that a long time ago it's is that the bears took a chance on the guy. While not shore. Has proven anything and NFL's time and in terms of being a big time quarterback do you agree with them.

Well he's that it mostly about his leadership and its personal stuff. I think see things -- very gifted quarterback and that's what that he feels but. I think what a lot of people currently think that. Animate him that your guy. And these not a great leader. So and and I think that. What really surprised me. In that game Sunday night we may apartment the other day it was. It's -- surprise me that he made such good decisions Europe pre season especially in a very emotional game at Denver. In which you know be booed in the stadium's sound like a volcano bubble game. And you know he didn't he indeed greedy. Took the little check down passes an awful lot and in this game. You know we just you know at one point in the fourth quarter it looked up in Europe and they fight people for the rebate uniforms. And I just look at it they -- Bottom line in this is. You know he he he has the play. The game -- murder basically groups. You know he can't play a game. And trade for fourteen points and one girl and I just think to walk in last week that but he was stranded there.

Final question from me as about Michael Crabtree in the San Francisco 49ers. He keeps threatening or his agent keeps threatening to withhold services to the point where he goes back into the draft if we get that. Technically San Francisco would own his rights until midnight the night before the draft. Which means no other team in the NFL could work him out he couldn't go to the Columbine they have no way of knowing. What he was like wasn't like it would never any right even talked to on what what is draft status be a year from now we did that.

Well I've been told that the players' association would likely I would read in. Even though Crabtree is not an NFL player. And they've -- file a grievance and allow him to be able to work out -- And you know have a meeting com by whatever that is whether that happen or I don't really think it would make -- different. Because my feeling about Crabtree is that. This is why this is so in thing. Because he's the tenth pick in the draft any thought that that was too low. He's gonna he's turned down in at. Five years 27 million dollars. And when he goes back in the draft next here. I mean you know you'll be able to knock me over with and -- If he gets drafted. And or better and he's gonna get drafted somewhere below and may be a lot -- and and who's gonna pick them knowing that you're the guy was turned down five years 27 million he's not gonna get offered that much. Getting picked what I believe will be significant be significantly below number and I've octave. People personnel people who say two things number one. That the draft next year is going to be the best one in three or four years. And they've also said that I wrote about this on Monday in my -- back it look at my column Monday and look at the list of restricted free agents that there will be in this draft error in this in this offseason. You know and you'll have. You'll be able to go and pick receiver. And actually pay him maybe about the same money but pay less draft choice compensation. That you would have to get a receiver like Michael Crabtree is it's so what now. So this is the most foolish -- out. I've not -- that I've ever seen of the in the bunch of stupid ones but this is this does not hold out. That clearly is being. Done right now stupidly by Michael Crabtree -- no matter what anybody says about the break if anything like that. He's not a break it if he's told Leo right.

an element of MI gonna find an amoeba. That's -- Saddam that's about -- about Peter but -- it will one last thing I'm glad. You wrote about Michael Jordan's Hall of Fame speech I heard some people thought he was too bitter he mr. critical and I thought it was great I agree with you 100%. That it's nice for -- change is very refreshing to hear a guy. Give a Hall of Fame speech and give you insight as to how he became what he began.

Well I think too often we listened to it means to me I gotta say this mark Hall of Fame voter but that. That that night of the all of -- borders meet its -- election night it's it's in our trying midnight rather. I mean the speeches or answers. It is star. Means you have to admit it it's they're just not very interesting. When it when Jerry writes it's up next year. I hope he stands up there any help from stories from the grip -- Give me some great stories that have never been told before or are open I mean Michael Jordan -- interest in he was compelling. Any told people. Why he became what he became. You know from -- high school coach. And the guy who made the -- school team as a -- and -- and two page you know to Pat Riley saying we will meet again with -- rhetorical line just. I love that stuff that we all should love that stuff in the bottom line in this is. I don't know Michael Jordan and a bunch of people were very critical might take it because they said it was a real link them bitter old man. Well maybe it may -- I don't know Michael Jordan I've ever met him either of them -- who once or twice but never appeared in a whatever. But the bottom line in the whole thing is. He was himself he was real pleasant some phony diabetic speech written by one PR guy and and another PR guy rewrote it its its. It was a real speech that's why I like that.

I agree I drew was great Peter we always appreciate time we'll talk -- next week all the bad -- it will pay Peter Peter King from Sports Illustrated. SI dot com and NBC sports.
