There was gonna really can't same thing about situation because the players not we've gone right as a player so that's. We'll between him and Oakland and and I can't comment on that.

I let me ask you about the deal in. That you look at a deal and you. Mention the other day in a statement you say we do what's best. For the patriots. Taking that into consideration. When you look that this deal. How much consideration was taken into the 09 season. Versus the future and how much does this affect the 09 season.

Well I think there's a lot of things that are taken in consideration. You have. Certainly look at the on ninth season and then and part of that's course the tenth season and the 2010 season and now yeah we're cognizant of -- And you know the balance of of your team here on the players and and your veteran players and and your money in. Potential contracts and all those kind of things so. You know that's and and value and so. When we put it all together felt like Leo organizational it is was. You know the good value for the for the situation and we know we're given up some organs are separate.

all the what sort of could you have done this type of deal. If you did not feel comfortable with some of the younger players that you had on that depth chart below Richard Seymour.

Almost certainly you've got to feel I have confidence in your team. But at same time. In Richards was is this was a significant player so. But again we we gave up somethin' and we receive something so that's. You know that that's with a straight -- hundreds of school vote. The raiders just call opposed is there. You know fearless dropped out so they know he's available to just called him to work and it's evil. Well day. Inquired about it you know would we we look at your situation in the would you consider. This elements they they mentioned a couple things what we. We're having the conversations about to enter urges Sen and then that. Went for awhile and then. Last week we talked -- again they call listened. And we talked of again and they said well would you that he changed than would you consider this and we considered it and after a few more conversations and we and a consummate the trade Ohio was it. A lot would have been turned on for a traffic and obviously could be right here coming to a guy goes to theater it's gonna vote. Contracts up next new mustard when they go off into a personal -- it was really. Must have been an easy decision made. Well you know we we give a lot of thought again I think we -- we certainly gave up. You know significant player and we receive significant compensation returns so. Don't think in balance we you know felt good about what we did. We understand that we you know we've we relinquished the player to.

When you're looking at a first round draft pick in 2011. How much do you take into consideration. Where you might be with the new collective bargaining you -- made the last. Day or two about the possibility of having a rookie. Slotted -- slots for each one of those spots. Does that increase the value of something like that -- 2011 and one not 2000 templates.

Well I think Glenn anytime you -- Push a trade back a year view. There's there's more valued at that higher pick. It's a lower pick in the more current here so just like we do in the draft a -- move up and around you you know you give up your fifth round pick to move up in the fourth round ego here sixth round pick the move up in the fifth round so. And if you. Going to next year than you give up next years fourth through this year's so there's there's some time value there I think that's historically the way the league looks at it. But again in the end. It's hard to the hard to gauge the value of draft picks you really -- it's it's an estimate. And we usually try to estimate towards the middle of the round because it could go up the could go down. And so we just do it on estimated basis and that's. As far as the contracts go you know we know with a rookie contracts are and nobody knows what's gonna happen with the new C via. Those contracts might go up and I go down. Nobody knows for sure I think that regardless of what happens that you know we've with a value. That we received we feel that. No we're we're willing to. Except that you know this is the ballpark of where it's going to be might be a little better might not be as good. As the middle book -- you know that's that's unpredictable the world except that. And your police whose contribution from -- Well ethics combination of people and anytime you -- So what each guy's role is not necessarily replicate somebody else's it's a culminate combination of a lot of people Dylan. Their job for the team be successful defensively and so that's that's what will be announced that we've always been.

And -- the fact that you have what looks like should be fairly high -- office to that make it will be your decision once. On I don't think that really play too much into its do you think it was more of decision of what. -- whole situation was with a player and what the offer was and considering this year next year. 2011 season because they're all kind of involve a little bit. On balance what's with this they do for the football team does that make of the players -- replace him tickets. More advantageous to a fourth ring for the reform with. You know Greenville and small that well we've we've worked on -- all that there in the pre season as you know Fred and so I think that our our game plans there'll be a a combination of things and we'll do. -- we feel it's best for any particular game -- situation I think we have flexibility. In our defensive system and we practice that through the years but particularly that your training camp -- so I think we feel comfortable that we can. You know do we what we need to do given aren't planning its particular opponent or -- in the situation would you have to consider. Trading that draft -- got room. Hi Paul -- Paul received that popped up that might really help right now. Well absolutely I think that's one thing that you you know with draft picks. That their currency and if you need a player. With a beat. Their Burgess or Randy Moss or Wes Welker. So players we've traded here traded for -- last few years then if you had a draft -- that they're potentially. A veteran players are also potentially rookie players or their. A potentially treatable to move up or down on the draft or. Or back here as the case might be so there's there at that it figures flexibility. And certainly if you more than one pick and around it it makes little bit easier to. The trade those ethics so. We don't have anything except plan -- but. I'm sure at some point we use among where another and the all powerful opening loss period every few -- of pixels they might be -- listen we've -- district helpless. You know we have so -- votes if you. Would that work like that you could usually have calls from the tree. What EI think at this point nobody's really shop in draft picks people are looking for players and if it. -- calls team B and says well what about this player. Then less Thursday equivalent players exchange which.

Isn't very common in the NFL does happen but it's it's less common then then another compensation. Method is -- a traffic and then. Whatever you decide on the and that's that's. You know that's confidence that they think this situation Richard was possible -- back in -- Jerusalem it's really just happen last -- Yeah it wasn't there wasn't something we talked about back conspiring. It was somethin' that has come up fairly recently and that's starting at some consideration. As that a local made. You know made mention of it early or it's literally you know couple weeks ago somewhere around the -- straight. But we didn't have any answers discussions at all can -- pretty fast probably within about. I don't know six -- eight hours. You know between Saturday and Sunday and then and that's when -- that's what really happened well they did mention before then which -- wasn't the right. Just that they do on that point.

So there were a lot of factors involved how much of a factor was it that. He's one of I believe it's twenty guys whose contracts will expire. At the end of at the end of this year so he was a guy that. Was already started to get up there and -- had a fairly substantial contract to going forward. Might cost considerable money how much does that play into what does this might be the last year.

Well -- thank you ankle I think there are a lot of factors senate then and some of the ones that you mentioned were you know part of a conversation I mean you know we have the look at our football team this year and next year and the year after that and and not that we're also in the case like this where we. -- one so we have the you know we have -- with the composite of the team and and again have that traffic. Create some options.

So more so because of colored suit they felt that you personally call Al Davis and talked him in the trade realistically how much. Do you dual phones do not at all just have the you know the play -- department call.

I don't get it all yet it varies you know various. Again this time a year -- they're a lot conversations about players -- throughout the league each every team's. Call and talk another team dozen and there's that you know that's just part of the conversations so. It could be myself and can be Floyd can be -- could be. Trees and light it it can be a lot of people there's no real set formula sometimes some things pop while in one conversation another -- we bring them talk them as a group and make decision.

Or ask about what happens when you get down the last 24 hours. Of shattered the cut down day when you've got to get down your 53. What conversations -- going. Around the league from team to team. Players that you know -- probably going to get cut but some teams trying to see if they can definitely get something warm. And then what happens when you get the Sunday. Because it was interesting we saw movement including a move by by your team with -- that came after you would already established -- 53 man roster. How does all of that come about --

Well it's it's pretty unpredictable what he never really know how that's gonna go sometimes. You know you find a team that's been release a player and the panel where you are in the claiming. Pecking order if if you're down the bottom do you feel like somebody else is gonna. -- a player had a view then. You might wanna consider trade for that player. So that he never is truly exposed to waivers if you think -- of the teams that are gonna. Taken first if you want that player. And on the flip side of that if your team that's release and a player than. You take anything you can get you know so if you. Rather and release a player get nothing if you get anything from another teen years you probably won't make that trade so there's a little bit jockeying going back and forth you know. Sometimes no news. Now they say that he says they're gonna release a player but. Or the -- and release a player but in the end maybe they will and so then it comes down -- you know -- offer -- on the waiver wire comes and you know -- got to play their cards. After you play in the first day than theirs there's some more movement teams claim players they release other players and that's secondary that's secondary market that slope that would happen on lock it acquisition -- With claim him all the waiver wire and then therefore -- these players to make room for him so. That was one that we didn't expect and you know when when it happens second day -- and you know we we -- just roster.

Here at the fifty premium and right now yes and there's no when he moves through your anticipates a the next couple days it was a pretty much stood for mostly.

You know -- I would say Steve -- well with each day it's probably less likely that they'll -- in -- the 53 -- on on Saturday to Sunday and then. Sunday -- Monday Monday to Tuesday and I think each day there there are few moves but progressively less you know as things start to settle out. The practice squads part of Latin and you know that's that's the old. You know everybody -- and make that eight man practice squad roster find the right positions on the right guys. Get that set so I I think each day there's little bit less and I'm sure that. Here by the end of the week they'll they'll be kind of an equilibrium and and then. As of next week they'll probably a lot less movement but what there is this week but that's a little bit less each day here's. In that scenario O'Connell was -- Detroit picked him up and then trade whether any inquiries into his before he was cut. The other really work Fred I think you know you look at a team like Detroit. They're not gonna trade for anybody they don't well I shouldn't say that they. They don't need it really trade for too many people because they have first claim you know same thing with Kansas City. In a third claiming spot when they claimed Ryan Callahan that they really don't have to. -- for too many guys because you know they're gonna get him on the claim. Unless they think that the player has trade value and he's gonna go to somebody else and if they really want and then -- treat form. So that's. -- you know it got a little bit of it's a little bit of yeah well but it is saying -- Detroit got a moral waiver claim. There will be no need for them to the claim them because that they had the first that for shops and so those kind of things the half the unity yet trying to measure and there's a lot of it's sort of like draft they really there's a lot of talk. Rumors conversation around. Probably 40% of its truce 60% of its. Like there's a big fish story.

Similar to show him I thought it was interesting though that the jets who war the second team in your schedule ended up picking them up -- the coach this weekend that was already. Throwing it out here that he felt that it that this team that acquired players -- giant walked -- their lives in Washington that the quarterback it was exactly. I mean do you have any suspicions when the jets go and pick up O'Connell here with. In to a schedule.

Well I think any time you release a player you have to understand that. You can end up on of the team he in an apartment in years vision he could end up on the next team on your schedule so. That's the you know that that's part of make that movement and it's and it we've all been involved in that on both ways so it does happen in the league that you pick a player he can help you out with game plans help you want with. What do teens yeah I think yes well -- sure he has information he can help it but I think. Roster spots are so valuable ones and the players are so valuable. Which once you have that I think that overrides. You know getting information from somebody and and again. Most teams changed their game plan every week a little better anyways so. I don't know how much value. I think that's a little overrated how much value player really brings. Tier team even knows what that team and we might help you on a couple and they do this player that player another place but. You probably know most of that anyway for familiar with the team and you know in the and its. You know maybe might tell you about a -- they haven't run before you know -- reverse as the formation LeBron from you've seen on film because they haven't shown but. Again those properties they're there for. You you're going to -- your your security I'm going through Monday with a two quarterbacks on the roster. Well let's we have right now and you know could that change it could but if it doesn't then it'll be -- Avi Bryant now. --

When you're sitting here trying to address with the Buffalo Bills are do against you on Monday night CO offensive coordinator gonzo. Eight days before the the story that that first game. You know who says pre season doesn't mean anything I have -- officer -- and is unavoidable. -- report. Is that yet that that's a little more difficult for you try to figure out and you know what they've been sort of the pre season and yet. They may object to what Turk was -- and they may do something totally different.

Well -- I'd be surprised that they they try to put -- a whole new offense I think that. You know the coach strong and then you know hasn't there's the basic foundation often the only of what they're doing. Is it going to be my -- little bit with a new coordinator -- sure it is but. Heading into opening day you know exactly what they're gonna do anyway -- you know seeing the preceding games but we -- everybody hold some back and in pre season and so we have to be rated for a lot of things that we haven't seen in pre season games. What exactly they'll be in what coach and -- come up with. You know I don't know but that's that's that's -- opening and so. It's always hard to to get ready at all last year's film -- all pre season games. And in you know there's other stuff that they haven't done and so it's it's a high volume. I think you gotta be careful about defendant on it goes. Worry too much about they could do this they could do that they can do some miles. In the -- you win and lose out there on the football field what you can do and you know. On new play here there mean that's that's -- that all the other place.

Then they they count ought to use -- they run that's real offense for a long time nobody camps all the stuff and right now he's got a week left your dramatically change everything. Outside so. You know though when when they get. When they get everything out there just like on every team -- When you get in the regular season and teams -- game plan for you and you get their best shot in the north to -- there. In Iran plays like we haven't pre season then after 34 gains ever but it kind of find out. Where there and nobody really knows that going into the year was the most exciting.

Well look like he didn't -- mean he's big he's very physical. -- get down field is big receiver -- runs well straight ahead so. You know -- he's tough on short catch and run patterns is hard tackle and he's tough on vertical patterns -- some of the smaller quarterbacks there's a lot of their -- and now. -- You know definitely a factor in the game along with. A very good receiving Corwin and where -- position -- mall perish Josh Reed evidence TO. With a before receivers will be three receivers you know things like federal all questions that -- we're not gonna known till Monday night. He's he's -- locally -- cuts real well sure yeah he's kind of the opposite of of perish perish is a very quick. Stop and go change direction guys that can that can be going full speed and and change directions a 180 degrees on a dime. And TO is as a big powerful guy that return runs through tacklers easy is almost the type and size. That can run through tacklers that can run over people looking gulping get the ball. And out -- guys and take it away from -- so he. You know here again -- perish that they are kind of the opposite ends of the spectrum both effective receivers with complete different styles. Aaron Schobel was healthy again he's got its cars do you guys difficulty over the in the past and the kid mavens tell us a little bit about about him. Well they've played the last two pre season games against Pittsburgh and Detroit and he's a very good -- rusher he's got a lot of speed. And he came around a corner against Detroit and and you know beat backus whose Susan good tackle a short left tackle -- around -- strips out quarterbacks. The -- at some speed of their pass rush along with. You know there are other hands Kelsey and and Denny who. I'll complain outside but also a financial move inside so it'll be it's in to see how all that shapes open and course is always possibility they could take player like maven. Who they played on both sides well that rise in the left and and and move around and you know make -- college -- you know -- kind of guy in the past -- so. Lot of different things they can do and but he's fast. And you know he's a guy that if he gets half a step step that he close on a quarterback in its knowledge sent these streets and on.

They're more when I feel one -- to you bill they penetrate. And put pressure on at all times and I leave certain things open. There is effective as well last June -- of this is because they do have guys to get off the ball a little bit on the -- good quickness.

That they have really good quickness I it looks to me like him pre season further a little better they -- last year. Lester -- jump from kind of at the bottom of the league defensively statistically to the between fifteen and ten in most categories although they were very good red area last year. Watch and and pre season area fourteen turnovers things nine interceptions but then really John take in the -- away and -- turnovers of four games so. You know if they've got the better pass rush there they're more experienced and seems like they can't recognize things a little quicker jump on quicker and and a -- big guys and silent on Williamson and course Stroud. That are that are hard to move in there and speed on the -- Looks like they're better defensively. And and they were a lot federal answers so so that's a team that's so it heats on they play together they think it'll. What do we do know is that Bobby April's special teams squads over the top wage and she memo last couple years both teams actually in the when game score more points in the -- that's. There's times have a last year the united against the jets where they. Almost pulled it out yet that they're very good the kicking game. You know in the top -- kickoff coverage so they can cover him they can return him. They have good specialists they have very good returners. Their you know their very good -- kicking game and that's always dangerous because one plate and -- can a lot can happen on that they can score from anywhere. Or creative they plan the coverage team and and which -- five or ten yard line. On upon things like that so there there very dangerous there.

People of spent a lot of time -- pre season trying to figure out whether you're for three team -- the -- with -- 34 you've described it as. It depends who were playing we may do a lot of different things. As any of that change from what we've seen in the last couple years and is Richard Seymour is absence. Mean anything in how you change your -- before.

Well I think that our decisions we've made based on our personnel and what we feel like we have to stop. Most important thing we have to stop their opponents and and that's -- little is and so. Will make those decisions on a weekly basis I think we have some flexibility. There were times last year when. You know we we played a lot of 34 defense and I think -- be times this year where will will wanna do -- of the times that we played. Unless 34 earned more somethin' else so. Paul that's gonna go on and on some of venture will depend on how well we do if we're doing well in one particular front -- particular coverage over. Once style poison in -- able to more that you think it makes a -- I think we saw last year. I guess the best way to answer that question plans I think we saw last year offensively. We have very productive offense in 2008 we had a very productive offense in 2007. That they were different. We found different ways to move the ball found different ways to score points found different ways to win games and challenge for the 2019. This year's. The find those ways what are they I don't know that I know the answer that question right now some of them will evolve. That in the end will will do the best we can't find the ways to win. In a might be different from what it's been in the past might be different from what was last year and it might be even different through the course of the year work in progress dissent the CEO of progresses I.

Teams that you came to do that. A chameleon constantly changing up what do what they have it like that. For what they have I'll leave that there's only -- Does that make it more difficult in preparation for that we can trying to figure it out as opposed to this is what they always do they stay in their base in other than. Yeah Ukraine and a few extra TVs and passing situation but you know. That it what did a pretty much what they're gonna do if you're constantly changing up and you're looking at videos. Or they -- that make it more they have to put more hours I would think into the preparation.

Well I think it goes both ways you know us as friends the no better than I. Defensively you you have to react with the office does and if you're always in the same place. Once you see it then you can react to a lot better the second times -- get a new blocking scheme. But then you you get that same blocking scheme began winner in the same defense and you know have the first time you know how to react with the second Connie Mitchell linebacker REIT the second time you make it -- wants on -- gonna -- his second time that. You know if you if you're change in defenses then yes it creates problems for the offense but also creates problems for the defense because. In a one time here in this defense and around the play and next time your and other deepens there on the play and it -- look quite the same to you so. Oh there's a place for both I think there's. In a positive -- points on both sides. And and we do both. Sometimes we sit Edmonton and try to recognize that of times we try to. You know have a little bit more of deception and and try to make them fineness and and I think there's a place for both you just kill you -- you've just told.

What they come small players on the defensive side of the ball but I think we've had some young players the and that are you know on the first second year drug -- Gary -- Brandon Meriweather. Guys like that that have you know -- exchange Sanders. You know that have taken a solid role on our football team both on and off the field and communications. In each team has its own has its own chemistry and you just can't. As a coach you know you just can't dictate that it it has to happen. And and who the leaders become viewed communicators become. -- teammates will -- to you know that salvia and evolution and and it is every year I mean. Certain players start there but you know I don't necessarily always finish there it just depends on how things go a year now we've played the part of the season last year without Rodney. Unfortunately and so. That was an adjustment we had to make during the years that. Circumstances dictated so. But I like the way that our team approaches the game like their work ethic -- their communication. And I think we've we've been for close games and pre season. And I think that the fact that that's not a good experience force you know we've had to play under pressure at the end of the game as an entire team. I know that you know there were sometimes players at the end of the game that. You know might not see a lot of playing time this week there aren't even on the roster but. From a team standpoint we experienced that as competitive games in pre season to those that force one final question you've been doing this for quite awhile. Still get butterflies. First the opening my first game -- that the nervous feeling absolutely this is this is the one you know this is the one I think after a first order after the first game. You have a better idea of where your team is after the second game you have a better idea than the first game and you know by the time India that fourth fifth sixth game you've seen enough match -- of your opponents they've. You know -- blitz you they played zone that played man you've seen some big guys these fast guys you know you've seen some quick guys and and you kind of get a sense. You know how you match up against certain players against certain schemes. And they know how your team's gonna perform and that's you know that's what we call mid season and no team is there yet and I think there's always that anticipation of the butterflies of you know how's how's it really -- ago I did see that commercial.

By the way that you're talking about the guy in the -- but he. Now tell me I'm a little I'm not as heavy is that gone hell it is the colors of his -- are thought. I thought that was like a -- that then -- into can I can't the camera look who's talking camera puts ten pounds -- While you're there don't we would've -- four cameras and federal it two up money I want I said it was gonna.
