I know Tom Brady said this morning when he was on with the DNC he's been around this game long enough and been around this team long enough that nothing really surprises them. Well that may be the case for Tom Brady but I will admit Sunday when I found out that Richard Seymour had been traded to the Oakland Raiders I was shocked.

Of course and he probably was shocked to -- I guess is a follow up question for Tom. If he still listening and of John and Jerry. Tom when did he get to that point when he wasn't surprised. But what was happening in the national football it with this team. With the patriots was it the lawyer Malloy -- release in 20035. Dates for the start of the regular season with the Deion Branch in 2006. Right when you thought that the patriots were gonna come to some agreement -- branch. And then it was just the opposite they authorized his agent to seek a trade -- wound up in Seattle. We're willing to give up first round picks for the opportunity to trade back into the draft for the unknown. So that in other words separatist go to that other patriots got mail ever just go sit we will give you. Our first round pick next year for the opportunity to take Joe Staley this year. I don't know that's its name it's not that the ones -- because I use we know they'll just -- okay. So that the colts have done that the ravens have done that people have given up first -- for the I've -- so in this case. I'm I'm sorry. Still. The best defensive -- the patriot -- with all respect to events and I -- hardy had her hat. OK a yes or no question the best offensive lineman in team history to give up a first round pick to hear from.

Here's the problem with the dealers IC and and this is one of those deals that the more I thought about it Sunday. The more I thought I both love and hate this. I hate the deal for this year. I mean your patriots fan. No one can convince me this team is better then it matter that they don't know -- works they got where they got worse for this year at I would love to hear of the debate on. This year how did the patriots get better this year with a straight -- up. I would love to hear somebody make that case now say they got worse for this year and if you're a patriots fan and all you care about his team back into the Super Bowl and maybe winning a Super Bowl. Your chances are are lesser less today than they were.

Now at the same time. We thought all along they work going to be able to keep -- Vince and Richard we thought all along that there was a pretty good possibility one of those guys. It's not to your point of will look at this in two years and say ought to number five pick with a number one pick where the numbers -- ID number -- Jay Leno okay. Look at the number three pick in this draft. Tyson Jackson. -- Richard Seymour well --

That may have you know confidence in their ability to pick that player. I think the other key to this though is 2011. But I don't want to -- Clinton had offered the first round pick next year they wouldn't it on the steel.

and -- in an already -- this I'm just my point is just of just to follow up on that that 2011. Point or or. You know top five top two number one and you don't know what the draft is going to be. And you don't know if a guy is gonna develop into that franchise got let your best case scenario. Is is getting somebody who can. Who can be a playmaker and contribute you don't think. That now all. Every time we have a top five pick. You'll get a guy who is a five time pro bowler. Who was who who who make five consecutive pro bowls on the -- what they can't game changer. Just because they have a top pick to hear from now doesn't mean they're gonna be able to replace this --

Well and let's talk about 2011 draft there's two things at play here one I agree with you the draft probably won't be as good. As you would normally think because I think if you are if you were able to come out for the draft next year you're coming out. I'm seeing you want taken a chance. You if you got an advisor quote on quote or an agent who's got half a brain he's gonna say there's a real good chance that in 2011. There's going to be a rookie salary. Cap of some kind a rookie salary structure if you're coming out you come -- 2010. I don't think the draft will be as good.

lot of juniors to the July yours will be coming out if they wanna get paid out guys say an odd. I'm not ready to come out and I enjoy college football I'm not doing it for the money I guess you would stay but. That's probably what 10% 5% of the.

They're gonna have some problems at least early on this season. In in the course of one year you've lost Rodney Harrison Tedy Bruschi Mike Vrabel and Richard Seymour. Could you lose for bigger. Playmakers to use your term and leaders than that group in one year I mean I know they got younger -- more athletic guys.

Got a combination. You got a combination of losses here in Richard Seymour loss of 29 year old guy which -- best defensive -- So that's active in his prime player. Tedy Bruschi was past his prime but hell -- leader. Mike Vrabel. He probably is past his prime years but still productive player -- leader Rodney Harrison -- prime justice still too banged up. Another great leader you you've lost some playmakers you've lost some leadership and if you wanna extend it for awhile over the last. Two to three years. I'm not gonna include -- here will be crazy. But maybe it. You lost the Sante Samuel. And then two to the guys -- debt makes you can't you haven't replaced them all well and -- we have replace water to let me I would think. If you if you're saying you're replacing. Jerod Mayo if you're replacing Tedy Bruschi Jerod Mayo okay maybe. Within would you replace. -- were able.
