Paul Byrd, Postgame Guest

Faulk congratulations. Stillwater return that was. Just unbelievable after he had pitched for almost a year and he's found the the same thoughts you know I didn't really. Any expectations. Just helping this team out anyway I could wanted to. You know knocked it kicked out of the game early of one particular team could start a quality start -- holiday it was going to be tough. You know one of the best pitchers in the league so you know I'm I'm pleasantly surprised myself.

Paul coming back to the Red Sox and coming back to Fenway Park about that ended that how special is that for you.

Love that I love playing here you know is not just. The atmosphere it's the best in all your games kind of like a playoff game but it. You know teammates the people. You know. Did you play for Terry was Philadelphia and it's really like the situation you know I think they're a great people over here -- look at now be. With these guys behind. -- tell us what you did now since we saw you last fall and what your plans were and are you -- about it well have been a full time dad you know on a chance to play for some teams and be a starting pitcher. But -- time to move on you know I was. The 38 my kids are 1113 my wife asked me to quit 94 so she's. -- do isn't you know it's really just looked at each other we thought you know what's the point monies he mr. kids grow up and you know some families. Really do well and and others don't you know the baseball lifestyle and I just really felt like it was time to. To retire and maybe pick up late and then when I had the chance to pick up late. You know we sat down talked about afraid about my wife and kids in and we were all excited I mean we just. You know we really missed a lot of things about it so. Can be a better situation for me.

I would think Paul that is wonderful is that is at this point in your career to be able to take some time off and be a Family Guy. And be with the people love you most you also realizes it terribly small window to be competitive athlete right.

There is you know and that's something too about walking away from the game when you can still play. I felt like -- finished the year last year. You know as good as ever having two in the second half and so when you walk away and you can still be competing you know could barely turn on the TV because. I really miss getting out on the field and competing you know which you have everything you do everything in every family's different so. You know just take it day at a time and we just they're excited to have a chance. Be with a team like this and for me to get out there and compete again. Well you didn't sign until August -- how did you stay so sharp marquis -- you really want to know are we going to believe this aspect of I you know. Around the couple months ago -- pretty hard but then -- was really interest -- thought okay I conceit of writing on the wall not Roger Clemens you know. So I started our coach and a thirteen UT in the Georgia road runners. And I start throwing them batting practice and I was kind of training without even onus on the Red Sox fault is that -- can -- be ready. I said you know I don't know way to hunt let me go to the old Fulton C. And how much further along than -- follow -- so you know special thanks to the my thirteen year old team effort for getting me ready.

It's a great story Paul -- looked good just terrific out there today when you'll start to look longterm move for the rest of the season regular season and in the post season. What do you see on the immediate horizon here.

Well help the Red Sox out anyway maybe even help him out you know they've had some injuries and you know on an insurance policy -- you know I'm somebody that can. Walk right into the rotation hopefully give our team some quality starts this. You know if if I need to back up or just whatever I'm I'm just here to win a championship get a ring. You know clean toilets that I have to to make that happen. You know I'm just thankful for the Red Sox let me come back. How about the other 38 year old to pitch today mr. Wagner -- look like get a guy we saw the National League. You know. He does come back from surgery it must be nice to throw -- 95 to 97. You know eleven months out of Tommy John it's just a phenomenal athlete and he -- look at his career numbers I mean he is unbelievable so one of the top pitchers of all time. Joined this team too soon they do a lot of things right great move. And good in the clubhouse to.
